The investigation of wave propagation in the geological environment is warranted, and will ultimately help to provide a better understanding of the response of subsoil to excitation. Frequently utilized physical modeling represents a simplification of the global natural system for the needs of the investigation of static and dynamic phenomena with regard to the time domain. The determination of appropriate model materials is probably the most important task for physical model creation. Considering that subsoil represents a crucial medium for wave propagation, an evaluation of suitable model materials was carried out. A plate load test with a circular plate is a non-destructive method for determining the static bearing capacities of soils and aggregates, which are usually expressed by the deformation modulus Edef,2 (MPa) and the static modulus of elasticity E (MPa). A lightweight deflectometer test was used to characterize the impact modulus of deformation Evd (MPa), which is determined based on the pressure under the load plate due to the impact load. A representative propagation of the load–settlement curve for the PLT and the acceleration–time curve for the hammer drop test were investigated. The calculated E values were found to be in the interval between 2.6 and 5.7 kPa, and depending on the load cycle, the values of E ranged from 2.6 to 3.1 kPa. The modulus E from the hammer drop test was significantly larger than the interval between 10.6 and 40.4 kPa. The values of the dynamic multiplier, as a ratio of the hammer drop value to the PLT value, of the modulus E ranged from 4.1 to 13.0. The output of the plate load testing was utilized for the calibration of the finite element method (FEM) numerical model. Both the physical and numerical models showed practically ideal linear behavior of the mass. Runway surface friction is critically important to safe aircraft operations and mostly depends on the surface texture, which provides grip in the presence of contamination and directly affects the friction coefficient in general. Microtexture assessment is the most challenging part of texture assessment since there is no standardised pavement microtexture control method in runway maintenance and management practice. The purpose of this study was to develop a simple laser profilometer and analysis model and subsequent validation for use in runway friction surveys. To that end, a simple laser profilometer was developed, and a profile picture analysis and macrotexture filtration method were designed. Test results were compared to the stylus-based roughness tester and the British Pendulum Tester. The proposed profile picture analysis and profile smothering and filtration methodology, based on linear approximation, is simpler and more effective for the case of macrotexture filtration for the friction survey. The laser profilometer model results were highly correlated with the stylus-based roughness tester results (R2 = 0.99). The average roughness of the microtexture profile, after smothering and macrotexture filtration, also showed good correlation with the British Pendulum results (R2 = 0.78). The results from this study confirm the possibility of texture assessment for routine runway friction surveys using a simple and economical laser profilometer, which is not routinely available in current airport surface friction management. Transfusion guidelines worldwide include recommendations regarding the storage length, irradiation, or even donor cytomegalovirus serostatus of red blood cell (RBC) units for anemic neonates. Nevertheless, it is totally overlooked that RBCs of these patients fundamentally differ from those of older children and adults. These differences vary from size, shape, hemoglobin composition, and oxygen transport to membrane characteristics, cellular metabolism, and lifespan. Due to these profound dissimilarities, repeated transfusions of adult RBCs in neonates deeply modify the physiology of circulating RBC populations. Unsurprisingly, the number of RBC transfusions in preterm neonates, particularly if born before 28 weeks of gestation, predicts morbidity and mortality. This review provides a comprehensive description of the biological properties of fetal, cord blood, and neonatal RBCs, including the implications that neonatal RBCs, and their replacement by adult RBCs, may have for perinatal disease pathophysiology. The system of nitric oxide synthases (NOSs) is comprised of three isoforms: nNOS, iNOS, and eNOS. The roles of NOSs in respiratory diseases in vivo have been studied by using inhibitors of NOSs and NOS-knockout mice. Their exact roles remain uncertain, however, because of the non-specificity of inhibitors of NOSs and compensatory up-regulation of other NOSs in NOS-KO mice. We addressed this point in our triple-n/i/eNOSs-KO mice. Triple-n/i/eNOSs-KO mice spontaneously developed pulmonary emphysema and displayed exacerbation of bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis as compared with wild-type (WT) mice. Triple-n/i/eNOSs-KO mice exhibited worsening of hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (PH), which was reversed by treatment with sodium nitrate, and WT mice that underwent triple-n/i/eNOSs-KO bone marrow transplantation (BMT) also showed aggravation of hypoxic PH compared with those that underwent WT BMT. Conversely, ovalbumin-evoked asthma was milder in triple-n/i/eNOSs-KO than WT mice. These results suggest that the roles of NOSs are different in different pathologic states, even in the same respiratory diseases, indicating the diversity of the roles of NOSs. In this review, we describe these previous studies and discuss the roles of NOSs in respiratory health and disease. The increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a significant worldwide health concern caused by sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy diets. Beyond glycemic control, T2DM impacts multiple organ systems, leading to various complications. While traditionally associated with cardiovascular and microvascular complications, emerging evidence indicates significant effects on pulmonary health. Pulmonary vascular dysfunction and fibrosis, characterized by alterations in vascular tone and excessive extracellular matrix deposition, are increasingly recognized in individuals with T2DM. The onset of T2DM is often preceded by prediabetes, an intermediate hyperglycemic state that is associated with increased diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk. This review explores the relationship between T2DM, pulmonary vascular dysfunction and pulmonary fibrosis, with a focus on potential links with prediabetes. Pulmonary vascular function, including the roles of nitric oxide (NO), prostacyclin (PGI2), endothelin-1 (ET-1), thromboxane A2 (TxA2) and thrombospondin-1 (THBS1), is discussed in the context of T2DM and prediabetes. Mechanisms linking T2DM to pulmonary fibrosis, such as oxidative stress, dysregulated fibrotic signaling, and chronic inflammation, are explained. The impact of prediabetes on pulmonary health, including endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and dysregulated vasoactive mediators, is highlighted. Early detection and intervention during the prediabetic stage may reduce respiratory complications associated with T2DM, emphasizing the importance of management strategies targeting blood glucose regulation and vascular health. Pavement performance models (PPMs) are utilized to predict pavement network conditions which is an essential part of any sustainable pavement management system (PMS). The reliability of a PMS and its outputs is proportional to the reliability of the PPM used. This article describes a mechanistic–empirical pavement performance model based on pavement response parameters—strains calculated in the pavement layers measured by tensometers embedded in the pavement surface and verified by calculations in the elastic half-space model and supplemented by empirical data from long-term pavement performance monitoring and accelerated pavement testing. Hence, the herein described PPM combines pavement serviceability evaluation, pavement bearing capacity, and the physico-mechanistic properties of paving materials. The analytical methods which were used to ascertain the physico-mechanistic characteristics, the material fatigue degradation model, and the surface degradation, unevenness in particular, are described. A comparison of the empirical PPM created in the last century used by the national road administrator to this day and the newly created PPM is presented. The comparison shows the difference in the calculated socio-economic benefits and subsequent cost–benefit analysis results. The comparison shows that the use of the old PPM may have produced false economic evaluation results that have led to poor decision making, partially explaining the unsustainable trend of road network management in our country. This article presents the case study of our research in the field of innovative methods of pavement subgrade quality control using the CIST (Clegg Impact Soil Tester) device. The CIST device developed by Dr Clegg from the University of Western Australia measures soil compaction indirectly using the CBR value. The value is evaluated based on the deceleration rate of a falling 4.5 kg weight moving in a vertical guide roller. In Europe, for the assessment of the mechanical efficiency (bearing capacity) of cohesive soils in the pavement subgrade, priority is given to indirect assessment methods especially using the laboratory determination of CBR (Californian Bearing Ratio) and directly through the implementation of a static plate load test (SPLT). This article reports the long-term results of our research in the field of verification and validation of an innovative CIST device, which minimizes the time, space, and economic disadvantages of SPLT. This article presents the results of determining the field of applicability of the CIST device for cohesive soils, the correlation dependencies (CD) of the CBR values determined by the CIST device, and, according to STN 72 1016, the CD of the impact dynamic deformation modulus Evd from the CIV (Clegg Impact Value). We consider the most important results of our long-term research to be a recognition of the ability of CIST to assess the quality of cohesive soils up to a compression value of 40 mm, corresponding to a CBR of 2.2% and a modulus of subgrade deformation of 20 MPa. A very strong correlation dependence of CBRClegg [%] on the moisture content of clayey soils in the interval from 5 to 19% was also observed. The presented knowledge led to the creation of relevant documents for the credible implementation of the CIST device in the system approach for assessing the quality of the pavement subgrade. The microtexture of the asphalt pavement, which is critical for the skid resistance, is dictated by the microtexture of the coarse aggregates used in the surface courses. The existing standard test methods can only capture the combined measure of coarse aggregate surface texture which can be influenced by other aggregate characteristics such as shape and angularity. Consequently, the surface texture of aggregates cannot be quantified explicitly using these tests, and therefore image analysis methods that can extract textural features are gaining more significance. In the present study, various image texture analysis methods are evaluated to identify a reliable texture indicator. Methods include traditional statistical approaches such as histogram method, Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) methods, and transform-based wavelet texture analysis. The image analysis was carried out on the grey-scale scanning electron microscope (SEM) images before and after accelerated polishing. To compare the image texture parameters, the average surface roughness (Sa) measured from aggregate surface profile data obtained from a 3D Optical Surface Profilometer (3D OSP) was considered as a direct measure of surface texture. A detailed correlation analysis with Sa indicates that the surface texture index (STI) from the wavelet analysis quantifies the microtexture more accurately compared to statistical methods. Nitric oxide (NO) is produced within the airways and released with exhalation. Nasal NO (nNO) can be measured in a non-invasive way, with different devices and techniques according to the age and cooperation of the patients. Here, we conducted a narrative review of the literature to examine the relationship between nNO and some respiratory diseases with a particular focus on primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). A total of 115 papers were assessed, and 50 were eventually included in the review. nNO in PCD is low (below 77 nL/min), and its measurement has a clear diagnostic value when evaluated in a clinically suggestive phenotype. Many studies have evaluated the role of NO as a molecular mediator as well as the association between nNO values and genotype or ciliary function. As far as other respiratory diseases are concerned, nNO is low in chronic rhinosinusitis and cystic fibrosis, while increased values have been found in allergic rhinitis. Nitric oxide (NO) is a short-lived gas molecule which has been studied for its role as a signaling molecule in the vasculature and later, in a broader view, as a cellular messenger in many other biological processes such as immunity and inflammation, cell survival, apoptosis, and aging. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) is a convenient, easy-to-obtain, and non-invasive method for assessing active, mainly Th2-driven, airway inflammation, which is sensitive to treatment with standard anti-inflammatory therapy. Consequently, FeNO serves as a valued tool to aid the diagnosis and monitoring of several asthma phenotypes. More recently, FeNO has been evaluated in several other respiratory and/or immunological conditions, including allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis with/without nasal polyps, atopic dermatitis, eosinophilic esophagitis, and food allergy. In this review, we aim to provide an extensive overview of the current state of knowledge about FeNO as a biomarker in type 2 inflammation, outlining past and recent data on the application of its measurement in patients affected by a broad variety of atopic/allergic disorders. Industrial control systems (ICS) like supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems play a crucial role in monitoring and controlling various process industries in national critical infrastructures. They are connecting to internet and highly inter-connected corporate networks for sharing the field data to third party heterogeneous systems like enterprise resource planning, third party SCADA systems etc. Even though it helps to share the data for monitoring and control of systems, it also opens the doors for cyber-attacks. It needs to strengthen the cyber security of these SCADA systems. There are various components in SCADA systems which requires to build security in these components. Generally, most of the SCADA systems uses MODBUS communication protocol for scanning the PLC devices to acquire the field data. The communication protocol security is one of the main components which was little addressed. The MODBUS protocol was developed without security in mind because security aspect was not a concern in closed environments of industrial control systems. It is highly vulnerable to cyber-attacks. There are some methods already developed by scholars to implement security in MODBUS protocol, but the existing methods modified the MODBUS frame formats. Hence, they are not suitable to the existing legacy systems because they do not support interoperability between various industry manufacturer's products. Another critical problem in existing methods is all the required security features were not implemented in a single method which would satisfy the security features like integrity, confidentiality, non-repudiation, authorization and authentication. In this paper, we designed and developed a new method by developing Secure Modbus Gateway Server and Client modules to provide secure data transfer between data acquisition servers and PLCs. In this methodology, the modules were developed using RSA and AES algorithms for achieving confidentiality and non-repudiation, SHA algorithm to provide integrity of the message. These modules also support authorization and authentication features. The time stamp in the Modbus frame was also included and transmitted to prevent replay attacks. The advantages of these modules/methodology are, it supports all required features for secure data transfer like integrity, confidentiality, non-repudiation, authorization and authentication. They also provide time stamp, frame filtering and exception response alarm triggering features. These modules also support interoperability and they can be easily installed in existing legacy systems. We measured performance metrics like attack resilience rate (ARP), attack penetration rate (APR) and overheads. This method protects the ICS system for 97% of attacks. The overhead on protocol was also calculated and it is found that 3.5% extra delay in round trip time which is very minor and can be tolerated in exchange of the important security benefits offered. Nasal nitric oxide (nNO) is a gas synthesized by the inducible and constitutive NO synthase (NOS) enzyme in the airway cells of the nasal mucosa. Like lung nitric oxide, it is thought to be associated with airway inflammation in various respiratory diseases in children. The aim of our review was to investigate the current state of use of nNO measurement in children. A comprehensive search was conducted using the Web of Science and PubMed databases specifically targeting publications in the English language, with the following keywords: nasal NO, children, allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis, acute rhinosinusitis, primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), and cystic fibrosis (CF). We describe the use of nNO in pediatric allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis, acute rhinosinusitis, PCD, and CF based on the latest literature. nNO is a noninvasive, clinically applicable test for use in pediatric allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis, acute rhinosinusitis, PCD, and CF. It can be used as a complementary method in the diagnosis of these respiratory diseases and as a monitoring method for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and acute and chronic rhinosinusitis. Allergic rhinitis, a common allergic disease affecting a significant number of individuals worldwide, is observed in 25% of children and 40% of adults, with its highest occurrence between the ages of 20 and 40. Its pathogenesis, like other allergic diseases, involves innate and adaptive immune responses, characterized by immunologic hypersensitivity to environmental substances. This response is mediated by type 2 immunity. Within type 2 allergic diseases, certain molecules have been identified as clinical biomarkers that contribute to diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy monitoring. Among these biomarkers, nitric oxide has shown to play a key role in various physiological and pathological processes, including neurotransmission, immunity, inflammation, regulation of mucus and cilia, inhibition of microorganisms, and tumor cell growth. Therefore, measurement of nasal nitric oxide has been proposed as an objective method for monitoring airway obstruction and inflammation in different settings (community, hospital, rehabilitation) and in various clinical conditions, including upper airways diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses. The purpose of this review is to analyze the potential mechanisms contributing to the production of nasal nitric oxide in allergic rhinitis and other related health issues. Featured Application: Unique data on real geometric imperfections of existing tied-arch bridges for advanced nonlinear buckling analysis. The complex global analysis of the steel tied-arch bridges may require specific data in some cases, e.g., residual stress or real geometrical imperfections. The presented research is focused on the investigation of the actual in-plane shape of the steel tied-arch bridges. To obtain the actual shapes of the arches of existing bridges, 3D terrestrial laser scanning was applied. Data were then investigated as a group in order to find the relationship within the tied-arch bridges' vertical imperfections. Firstly, the detailed surveyed points in the selected position were mathematically determined to estimate the measured data. The next step included the creation of curves presenting the real shape of the bridges' arches course using numerical modelling. After the pre-programming, the calculations and related numerical modelling were performed in the Matlab environment. These modelled arch-bridges courses were approximated by using regression analysis. The approximating curves from the regression analysis represent the theoretical course of the arches. The difference between the theoretical shape and the processed measured values may be presented as the examined in-plane imperfections. Subsequently, the paper presents comparisons from the evaluation of the individual imperfections on the investigated bridges and a comparison of the measurement with the standardised shape of the imperfections. Purpose: This study aims to investigate two public private partnership (PPP) road projects in Nigeria for exploring factors that can motivate end-user stakeholders for contributing towards sustaining a PPP project in the long-term. Design/methodology/approach: Using a case study methodology approach, this study adopts two-way data collection strategies via in-depth interviews with PPP experts and end-user stakeholders in Nigeria host communities and a questionnaire survey to relevant stakeholders. Findings: The study identifies an eight-factor structure indicating critical success factors for ensuring end-user stakeholders support PPP projects on a long-term basis in their host communities. Originality/value: Results of the study have huge implications for policymakers and project companies by encouraging the early integration of far-sighted measures that will promote long-term support and sustainability for PPP projects amongst the end-user stakeholders. Asthma is a heterogenous disorder characterized by presence of different phenotypes and endotypes. Up to 10% of the individuals suffer from severe asthma and are at increased risk of morbidity and mortality. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) is a cost-effective, point of care biomarker that is used to detect type 2 airway inflammation. Guidelines have proposed to measure FeNO as an adjunct to diagnostic evaluation in individuals with suspected asthma and to monitor airway inflammation. FeNO has lower sensitivity, suggesting that it may not be a good biomarker to rule out asthma. FeNO may also be used to predict response to inhaled corticosteroids, predict adherence and deciding on biologic therapy. Higher levels of FeNO have been associated with lower lung function and increased risk for future asthma exacerbations and its predictive value increases when combined with other standard measurements of asthma assessment. To solve the problems of inaccurate quality inspection and poor safety maintenance of traditional overhead cranes, this study has developed a prediction system for overhead cranes based on digital twin technology. First, interworking of the data flow between the control port of the overhead crane and the digital twin system is realized. Then, finite element technology is exploited to calculate the stress of the crane bridge, thereby performing stress rendering of the digital twin system. Next, the life of bridge cranes is predicted by the stress and strain of their main girders. Finally, synchronous overhead-crane communication combines the virtual twin system and the actual control system of the crane. Objective: To critically review the literature on nasal nitric oxide (nNO) and its current clinical and research applicability in the diagnosis and treatment of different sinonasal inflammatory diseases, including acute bacterial rhinosinusitis (ABRS), allergic rhinitis (AR), and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). Methods: A search of the PubMed database was conducted to include articles on nNO and sinonasal diseases from January 2003 to January 2020. All article titles and abstracts were reviewed to assess their relevance to nNO and ABRS, AR, or CRS. After selection of the manuscripts, full-text reviews were performed to synthesize current understandings of nNO and its applications to the various sinonasal inflammatory diseases. Results: A total of 79 relevant studies from an initial 559 articles were identified using our focused search and review criteria. nNO has been consistently shown to be decreased in ABRS and CRS, especially in cases with nasal polyps. While AR is associated with elevations in nNO, nNO levels have also been found to be lower in AR cases with higher symptom severity. The obstruction of the paranasal sinuses is speculated to be an important variable in the relationship between nNO and the sinonasal diseases. Treatment of these diseases appears to affect nNO through the reduction of inflammatory disease burden and also mitigation of sinus obstruction. Conclusion: nNO has been of increasing interest to researchers and clinicians over the last decade. The most compelling data for nNO as a clinical tool involve CRS. nNO can be used as a marker of ostiomeatal complex patency. Variations in measurement techniques and technology continue to impede standardized interpretation and implementation of nNO as a biomarker for sinonasal inflammatory diseases. In this article, we deal with the problem of Hybrid Energy Harvesting control strategies, while paying attention to their properties and suggesting criteria to assess their suitability for specific energy harvesting techniques, as well as their application in different areas of technology—especially Wireless Sensor Networks and the Internet of Things. Many research works have already been published on the topic of combining resources for Energy Harvesting; nevertheless, a comprehensive review of the control strategies for such systems and a comparison of their most important properties is missing. This is the genesis and the main subject of this article. We have performed a deep research investigation of available resources. We have identified eight different control strategies and defined a set of the most important parameters (including their possible ranges/states) as criteria to be able to compare them. The corresponding sections of this article begin with a general description of the respective strategies and their principles (including generalized schemes), which is followed by specific examples of best practices. : Inflammation of the human lung is mediated in response to different stimuli (e.g., physical, radioactive, infective, pro-allergenic or toxic) such as cigarette smoke and environmental pollutants. They often promote an increase in inflammatory activities in the airways that manifest themselves as chronic diseases (e.g., allergic airway diseases, asthma, chronic bronchitis/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or even lung cancer). Increased levels of oxidative stress (OS) reduce the antioxidant defenses, affect the autophagy/mitophagy processes, and the regulatory mechanisms of cell survival, promoting inflammation in the lung. In fact, OS potentiate the inflammatory activities in the lung, favoring the progression of chronic airway diseases. OS increases the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), including superoxide anions (O2 −), hydroxyl radicals (OH) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2 ), by the transformation of oxygen through enzymatic and non-enzymatic reactions. In this manner, OS reduces endogenous antioxidant defenses in both nucleated and non-nucleated cells. The production of ROS in the lung can derive from both exogenous insults (cigarette smoke or environmental pollution) and endogenous sources such as cell injury and/or activated inflammatory and structural cells. Typically, the quality of information obtained from crowdsensing is largely affected by various factors, such as the diverse requirements of crowdsensing tasks, the varying quality of information across different crowd workers, and the dynamic changes of channels conditions and the sensing environment. In this paper, considering the dynamics' of the crowd workers, we focus on a spatial-temporal crowdsensing model and aim to maximize the value of information at the point of interest, by optimizing the recruiting range and time duration for the crowd workers. In particular, the crowdsensing system includes a mobile access point (MAP) and a set of wireless sensor nodes. As the information requester, the MAP can broadcast its crowdsensing task and then estimate the value of information by collecting the responses from the sensing nodes. Each sensing node in the crowdsensing task will receive a payment from the MAP. We aim to maximize the utility of the information requester by optimizing the recruiting range and waiting time for the sensing nodes. We firstly define a set of value metrics to characterize the MAP's value of information. The optimal recruiting range can be obtained in closed-form expressions. Furthermore, considering the aging effect, we propose a gradient-based method to maximize the spatial-temporal value of information. Specifically, we first determine the optimal recruiting time for the requester and then choose the optimal recruiting range within each time slot. Via simulation, we first compare the sum, max, and min values of information at the requester, and then verify the effectiveness of the gradient-based method to optimize the recruiting time and range to maximize the value of information. Asthma is a common disease affecting 350 million people worldwide, which is characterized by airways inflammation and hyperreactivity. Historically diagnosis and treatment have been mainly based on symptoms, which have the potential to result in misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment. Nitric oxide (NO) is exhaled in human breath and is a marker of airways inflammation. Levels of NO are increased in the exhaled breath of patients with type 2 asthma and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) provides an objective biomarker of airway inflammation. FeNO testing is an accessible, noninvasive, and easy-to-use test. Cut-off values have been established by the American Thoracic Society (ATS), the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) but vary between guidance. FeNO levels have been shown to be predictive of blood and sputum eosinophil levels but should not be used in isolation and current guidance emphasizes the importance of incorporating clinical symptoms and testing when utilizing FeNO results. The inclusion of FeNO testing can increase diagnostic accuracy of asthma, while high levels in asthmatic patients can help predict response to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) and suppression of levels with ICS to monitor adherence. FeNO levels are also a predictor of asthma risk with increased exacerbation rates and accelerated decline in lung function associated with high levels as well as having an emerging role in predicting response to some biologic therapies in severe asthma. The mechanisms of regulation of the constitutive androstane receptor (CAR) under the effect of the nitric oxide (NO) donor S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO), added to a nutrient medium at concentrations ranging from 1 to 500 µM for 3, 24, and 72 h, were studied in vitro on Caco-2 cells. Relative CAR levels were assessed by Western blotting. It was found that short-term (3 and 24 h) exposure to GSNO at concentrations of 1–500 µM did not affect the relative CAR level, while after a 72-h exposure to GSNO concentrations of 1, 10 and 50 µM, it increased. Such an increase in the relative CAR level upon exposure to a low GSNO concentration (1 µM) was proved to be implemented via the NO-cGMP signaling pathway. Further increase in GSNO concentrations to 10 and 50 µM triggered the development of nitrosative stress, and the relative CAR level was regulated via the nitration product bityrosine. Nitrosative stress progression at GSNO concentrations of 100 and 500 µM was accompanied by a decline in Caco-2 cell survival, apparently due to the damage to the CAR molecule, leading to a decrease in the relative CAR level. The growth in the integration and use of standards and protocols common to computer networks has seen industrial networks increasingly subject to attacks and invasions. Modbus is an example of a widely used industrial protocol, and like others, does not possess native tools for secure communication. Security for Modbus is achieved generally by use of security techniques on the lower layers of the communication stack. This study highlights vulnerabilities associated with Modbus, with its focus on Modbus TCP, while offering a protection proposal through use of Master and Slave authentication at the application layer level. The technique was implemented with the HB-MP* protocol, which focused on protection against invading Masters or Slaves. The main contribution of this paper is found through providing Modbus communications greater security at the application layer level, as a single security implementation or increasing security in conjunction with other lower layer security techniques. A Modbus TCP network was set up with Master and Slave nodes performing Modbus communication that authenticates one another. Results showed it was possible to detect intruders and avoid some attacks, whereas suffering only a small cost associated with processing and transmission delays. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Climate pavement adaptability is an integral part of a holistic concept of road design, construction, and pavement management. One of the possibilities for fulfilling the mentioned author's premise in sustainable cycle pavements in the cold region of Central Europe is using composite foam concrete (CFC). To establish the credibility of the design of these pavements, we objectified the correlation dependencies of average annual air temperatures and frost indexes, for altitude regions from 314 to 858 m in the period 1971 to 2020, at its height above sea level. As part of the research on the increase in tensile strength during bending of CFC, extensive laboratory measurements were carried out and validated by isomorphic models of real roads, which enabled an increase in tensile strength during bending from 0.376 to 1.370 N·mm−2 for basalt reinforcing mesh. The research results, verified through FEM (Finite Element Method) models of cycle pavements, demonstrated a possible reduction of total pavement thickness from 56 to 38 cm for rigid pavements and 48 to 38 cm for flexible pavements. The measurement of nitric oxide (NO) in exhaled air is used in diagnostics and monitoring the pathologies not only in the respiratory system but also in the oral cavity. It has shown a huge increase in its level in asthma and diseases of the oral cavity. It seems reasonable to undertake research on the impact of inflammation on the level of NO in exhaled air. The aim of the study is to make an evidence-based review of the application of NO levels in exhaled air in the diagnosis of inflammation and treatment monitoring on the basis of selected measuring devices. Methods and Results: This paper presents an example of the application of NO measurement in exhaled air in individual human systems. Selected measuring devices, their non-invasiveness, and their advantages are described. Discussion: The usefulness of this diagnostic method in pathologies of the oral cavity was noted. Nowadays there is a growing demand for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to improve their level of digitalisation. This situation becomes even more critical in cases when SMEs act in the role of a subcontractor of large enterprises who demand the utilisation of certain digital operations. This paper aims to identify the essential Industry 4.0 attributes for the requirements of SMEs that enterprises can purchase to deploy an adequate solution with a view of increasing their competitiveness in the market. By analysing research articles and statistical data from the worldwide Web of Science database, we identify the major Industry 4.0 attributes for SME: Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, Simulation and Cybersecurity. Based on the review results and a survey by the European Commission, we propose devices primarily designed to implement AI tasks in industrial environments that meet the essential attributes for SMEs and have low entry costs. The subject of IoT is thoroughly addressed. Its subsets and the relationship between Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) are introduced and described. The characteristics of the listed devices as related to usability in the identified attributes are verified. Therefore, the description of the devices is provided with respect to their usability in SMEs. The main purpose of this paper is to identify attributes for SMEs and to develop strategic plans for the digitalisation requirements, particularly in the development of Artificial Intelligence as part of the implementation of the IoT pillar. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) from the lower airways and nasal nitric oxide (nNO) from the upper airways are biomarkers of eosinophilic airway inflammation and are used to assess responses to corticosteroid treatment. To examine the influence of inhaled fluticasone propionate/salmeterol (FP/SAL) or fluticasone propionate (FP) treatment on the concentration of FeNO and nNO, the percentage of eosinophils, lung function, and asthma control test (ACT) scores among children with asthma, allergic rhinitis, and combined allergic rhinitis and asthma. A total of 95 steroid-naïve pediatric subjects with asthma (n = 29), asthma and allergic rhinitis (n = 30), and allergic rhinitis (n = 36) participated in this study. Initially, patients had a physical exam, baseline FeNO and nNO measurement, spirometry, blood sampling, skin tests, and an ACT questionnaire. After assessment of the baseline values, inhaled FP/SAL (100/50 µg) was administered twice daily for 4 weeks in patients with asthma; intranasal FP (100 µg) was added twice daily in cases of allergic rhinitis. Two weeks after treatment, spirometry, FeNO and nNO measurements, blood sampling, and the ACT questionnaire were repeated. A 4-week low dose combination treatment with FP/SAL in asthmatic participants or FP alone in allergic rhinitis patients is effective in reducing FeNO (p < 0.001) and/or nNO (p < 0.001) levels and reducing the percent of eosinophils in peripheral blood. Moreover, we observed improvement in lung function and an increase in ACT scores among pediatric patients. We conclude that measurements of FeNO and nNO are helpful for assessing the effectiveness of treatment with corticosteroids, especially due to the fact that these measurements are inexpensive, fast, painless, and easier to perform than spirometry, which can be a benefit for younger children. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) has gained great clinical importance as a biomarker of type 2 inflammation in chronic airway diseases such as asthma. FeNO originates primarily in the bronchial epithelium and is produced in large quantities by the enzyme inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). It should be noted that nitric oxide (NO) produced at femtomolar to picomolar levels is fundamental for respiratory physiology. This basal production is induced in the bronchial epithelium by interferon gamma (IFNγ) via Janus kinases (JAK)/STAT-1 signaling. However, when there is an increase in the expression of type 2 inflammatory cytokines such as IL-4 and IL-13, the STAT-6 pathway is activated, leading to overexpression of iNOS and consequently to an overproduction of airway NO. Increased NO levels contributes to bronchial hyperreactivity and mucus hypersecretion, increases vascular permeability, reduces ciliary heartbeat, and promotes free radical production, airway inflammation, and tissue damage. In asthmatic patients, FeNO levels usually rise above 25 parts per billion (ppb) and its follow-up helps to define asthma phenotype and to monitor the effectiveness of corticosteroid treatment and adherence to treatment. FeNO is also very useful to identify those severe asthma patients that might benefit of personalized therapies with monoclonal antibodies. In the present study, credible analytical and numerical models are developed in order to explain the apparent discrepancies in the ratios of static and dynamic deformation models for assessing the quality of mechanical efficiency of transport structures in Central Europe. Through of experience, authors specifically deal with the comparison of two commonly used methods: the dynamic load plate test, known as the lightweight dynamic test and the static plate load test. This paper presents the relevant correlation dependency of the most commonly used quantification characteristics in earthworks quality control. Their correlation was obtained by applying the static theory of impact to earthworks quality control, which allows for the application of several quality control methods, in line with other member states of the European Union, specifically with regard to constructions under various boundary conditions (climate, soil moisture of the specified layer). According to an analysis of the results of comparisons of static and dynamic load tests, analytical and numerical models of the subsoil formed by soils and uncemented structural materials, respectively, the linear calculation usually used in the conditions of Central Europe does not have universal validity. Nitric oxide is a ubiquitous signaling radical that influences critical body functions. Its importance in the cardiovascular system and the innate immune response to bacterial and viral infections has been extensively investigated. The overproduction of NO is an early component of viral infections, including those affecting the respiratory tract. The production of high levels of NO is due to the overexpression of NO biosynthesis by inducible NO synthase (iNOS), which is involved in viral clearance. The development of NO-based antiviral therapies, particularly gaseous NO inhalation and NO-donors, has proven to be an excellent antiviral therapeutic strategy. The aim of this review is to systematically examine the multiple research studies that have been carried out to elucidate the role of NO in viral infections and to comprehensively describe the NO-based antiviral strategies that have been developed thus far.
