Over the past decade, YouTube has undergone a significant transformation, evolving from primarily being an entertainment platform to becoming a prominent learning resource. This study aims to examine the relationship between the instrumental and pedagogical dimensions of YouTube in the context of informal learning, evaluating both its technical characteristics and its contribution to the educational experience. A specific questionnaire was developed for this purpose, which underwent expert validation and was evaluated through a pilot study. The study sample consisted of 504 participants from Andalusia, Spain. Descriptive analyses and correlations, including the Spearman correlation coefficient and the contingency coefficient, were applied to explore the relationships between dimensions and variables such as age, gender, employment status, education, and usage frequency. The results highlighted a positive evaluation of both the instrumental and pedagogical dimensions, with a particular emphasis on the appreciation of accessibility, content diversity, and the ability to customize the educational experience according to user needs. Correlations revealed that a positive assessment of technical characteristics was associated with a higher evaluation of pedagogical dimensions. Additionally, a positive correlation was found between usage frequency and the evaluation of these dimensions, while age was negatively related to them. In summary, YouTube emerges as a highly relevant platform for informal learning, with its technical aspects highly valued for enriching the educational experience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The widespread use of computer-mediated communication (CMC) among adolescents has favored the creation of a new written code called digitalk. This new code includes, among other characteristics, the use of foreign words as textisms, mainly anglicisms. These textisms also serve as a mark of identity among young speakers. The aim of this paper is twofold: firstly, to describe which are the more frequent anglicisms used by Spanish adolescents in their CMC and the code-mixing pathways of inclusion; secondly, to examine the possible influence between the use of anglicisms in the CMC of Spanish adolescents and their orthographic competence. Method: Based on an exploratory methodology, a corpus of interactions through WhatsApp of a group of adolescents attending Compulsory Secondary Education in a region of southern Spain has been analyzed. Data analysis: Sketch Engine software was used for corpus analysis, presenting the normalized frequency (1/1,000) of textisms, misspellings and multimodal elements. Finally, for the descriptive statistical analysis of the data and for the bivariate correlation analysis applying Pearson’s coefficient, IBM SPSS v.26 software was used. Findings: The results indicate that young people use English Code-Mixings (ECM) as discursive framers with an expressive aim and as a sign of belonging to a specific community of speakers. Moreover, no positive correlation is observed between the use of these ECMs and a lower orthographic competence. Implications: ECMs show an important pragmatic function in CMC among Spanish adolescents. Furthermore, they are one of the elements that have been incorporated into the digital norm of Spanish and can be used in Compulsory Education as a resource for the acquisition of communicative competence in adolescents along with other textisms. Las redes sociales representan uno de los medios digitales utilizados con mayor frecuencia en la actualidad. Sus características han provocado que sean empleadas en numerosas áreas, destacando su uso como medio educativo. Tal es el caso de YouTube, una de las plataformas más recurrentes para el aprendizaje, no solo dentro del aula, sino en contextos informales de aprendizaje. El presente trabajo de investigación tiene por objeto profundizar acerca del proceso de aprendizaje informal en YouTube, analizando la divulgación científica publicada, las características más valoradas por parte de los usuarios para su empleo, las motivaciones para escogerlo y cómo se configura el proceso de aprendizaje informal mediado por YouTube. Se elaboraron tres diseños: una revisión sistemática bibliográfica, un diseño cuantitativo con técnicas de análisis descriptivas y ex post facto, y un diseño microgenético. Los instrumentos para la recogida de datos fueron las herramientas de consulta directa de las bases de datos Web of Science y Scopus, dos cuestionarios ad hoc y la entrevista semiestructurada. Se trata de un estudio descriptivo-explicativo para el que se ha conseguido una muestra conformada por 504 personas de distinta edad, género, formación y frecuencia de uso de YouTube. Los conceptos teóricos que conforman la estructura interna del estudio son: la Teoría Sociocultural de Vygotsky y la Teoría de la actividad. Los resultados revelan la autorregulación y personalización del aprendizaje como claves del éxito de YouTube, una fuerte influencia de la edad en todas las variables medidas en el presente estudio y destaca el papel de YouTube y el diálogo interno como mediadores determinantes en el proceso de aprendizaje informal en YouTube., Social networks represent one of the most frequently used digital media nowadays. Their characteristics have led them to be used in numerous areas, with their use as an educational medium standing out. Such is the case of YouTube, one of the most recurrent platforms for learning, not only in the classroom, but also in informal learning contexts. The present research work aims to explore the process of informal learning on YouTube, analyzing the scientific dissemination published, the characteristics most valued by users for its use, the motivations for choosing it and how the process of informal learning mediated by YouTube is configured. Three designs were developed: a systematic literature review, a quantitative design with descriptive and ex post facto analysis techniques, and a microgenetic design. The instruments for data collection were the direct query tools of the Web of Science and Scopus databases, two ad hoc questionnaires and a semi-structured interview. This is a descriptive-explanatory study for which a sample of 504 people of different ages, gender, education, and frequency of use of YouTube was obtained. The theoretical concepts that make up the internal structure of the study are Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory and Activity Theory. The results reveal self-regulation and personalisation of learning as keys to YouTube success, a strong influence of age on all the variables measured in this study and highlight the role of YouTube and internal dialogue as determining mediators in the informal learning process on YouTube.

The aim of this study is to carry out a systematic review of the scientific production on YouTube and learning during the decade since 2010, in order to identify the main lines of research and the current state of the subject. The data were collected from two of the most relevant international databases: Web of Science and Scopus. A total of 264 documents were analysed. At the methodological level, the guidelines and protocols indicated in PRISMA were followed. The study presents a quantitative analysis to reveal the data of the scientific production published in the years of study and an analysis of co-occurrence between keywords, representing the data obtained in two-dimensional bibliometric maps. The results provide an overview of the scientific production on this subject, highlighting the increase in publications since 2018. The article reveals the main lines of research that study learning through YouTube, as well as the intellectual contexts where most scientific production on this topic is generated. The conclusions are synthesised in the evolution of YouTube towards a use for informal learning, the value of socialisation in learning and the multidisciplinary nature of YouTube as an educational resource, El objetivo de este estudio es realizar una revisión sistemática de la producción científica sobre YouTube y aprendizaje durante la década iniciada en 2010, con objeto de identificar las principales líneas de investigación y estado actual de la temática. 6. La mediación de Youtube para el aprendizaje informal: un diseño microgenético

YouTube is currently one of the most popular resources for informal learning. It is developed in a self-regulated way by the users, who interact with psychological and physical tools that mediate to enable the achievement of the proposed goal. The main scientific objective of this research is to identify the intellectual process followed during the informal learning process on YouTube, taking as a reference the Activity Theory and the Sociocultural approach. A microgenetic design is applied based on an activity that consists of acquiring learning through YouTube in a self-regulated way. Data are obtained through a qualitative interview that records all cognitive and behavioral processes occurring during this activity. Nonverbal communication records are also used following the guidelines of microgenetic designs. Data analysis is carried out qualitatively using Atlas Ti Software. V. 9. The results show the mediating action of YouTube and the internal dialogue during learning, as well as the sequencing of the cognitive activity based on the activities, actions, and operations that took place in it. The conclusions are synthesised in role of mediators in the decision making and development of the learning process., En la actualidad, YouTube es uno de los recursos más populares para el aprendizaje informal. Este se desarrolla de manera autorregulada por parte de los usuarios y usuarias, los cuales interaccionan con herramientas psicológicas y físicas que median para posibilitar la consecución de la meta propuesta. El principal objetivo científico de esta investigación es identificar el proceso intelectual que se sigue durante el proceso de aprendizaje informal en YouTube, tomando como referencia la Teoría de la Actividad y el enfoque Sociocultural. Se aplica un diseño microgenético en base a una actividad que consiste en la adquisición de un aprendizaje a través de YouTube de manera autorregulada. Los datos se obtienen mediante una entrevista cualitativa, que registra todos los procesos cognitivos y conductuales acaecidos durante esta actividad. También se utilizan registros de comunicación no verbal siguiendo las pautas de los diseños microgenéticos. El análisis de datos se realiza de forma cualitativa aplicando el software Atlas ti. V. 9. Los resultados muestran la acción mediadora de YouTube y el diálogo interno durante el aprendizaje, así como la secuenciación de la actividad cognitiva basada en las actividades, acciones y operaciones sucedidas en el mismo. Las conclusiones se sintetizan en el papel de los mediadores en la toma de decisiones y desarrollo del proceso de aprendizaje.

11. YouTube as a Digital Resource for Sustainable Education.

- Abstract
The extensive use of social networks by people of all ages and the wide range of freely available content therein can be very useful for sustainable education. This research paper aims to explore informal learning on YouTube from a sociocultural approach, observing the reasons why our subjects select this platform for their self-learning and how they evaluate different actions that mediate their learning. This is achieved through two constructs derived from the sociocultural approach: preference and mediation. The differences are also analysed according to the age, sex, and level of education of the subjects. A quantitative methodology is used, applying the statistical techniques of descriptive and inferential analyses. Data are obtained through an ad hoc questionnaire that collects information on the proposed constructs. The sample consists of 504 people from the Andalusia region in Spain. Our results show the criteria that users apply in their preference of YouTube, as well as mediating actions that should be self-regulated during users' informal learning process on YouTube. Significant statistical differences are obtained for the age variable but not for the gender variable or the level of education, with respect to the two constructs studied. The relevance and significance of the variables studied indicate the value people attribute to YouTube as a tool for informal learning and its potential for sustainable education. This study has implications in sustainable education, as YouTube is a tool that breaks down barriers and can be adjusted to the needs of a population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
