Digital technologies can lead to the provision of innovative opportunities for academic entrepreneurship. However, investigations on the rationale for the adoption of digital technologies for academic entrepreneurship, particularly in emerging economies, remain limited. As a result, the determinants of digital technology adoption for academic entrepreneurship are not fully understood. Drawing on technology adoption and entrepreneurship literature, we propose a research model to investigate the adoption of social media -- a type of digital technology - for entrepreneurial activities among students in academic settings. Based on survey data collected from 312 participants, and a partial least square structural equation modeling technique for analysis, this study shows that computer self-efficacy and perceived enjoyment significantly influence perceived ease of use. In addition, perceived job relevance and perceived ease of use significantly influence perceived usefulness. Furthermore, perceived ease of use and students' perceived entrepreneurial feasibility significantly affect behavioral intention. Moreover, the study shows that behavioral intention significantly affects actual usage. Through these findings, our study advances knowledge on the antecedents of social media adoption for entrepreneurship in academic settings in emerging economies.

A youth mental health crisis has been exacerbated significantly by the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers are often front-line support for students in need. Yet teachers themselves are struggling, making it difficult to help their students. Cognitive behavioral interventions (CBIs) have been shown to reduce mental health symptoms in school settings. Learning and implementing a psychological intervention, however, places undue burden on teachers who are already struggling. This project aimed to develop and assess the acceptability and feasibility of a brief, web-based training for educators on cognitive behavioral tools that can be implemented in classrooms without additional psychological or practical burden. Attendees (n = 193) attended one of two 1-h trainings on applying cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in classrooms. Attendees completed pre- and posttraining surveys on their knowledge and comfort using CBT. Following the course, attendees reported increases in knowledge and comfort using CBT skills, with large effect sizes. Attendees reported being highly satisfied with the course and likely to recommend the course to colleagues. Limitations of this work include a relatively small, homogenous sample and a low rate of completing both pre- and posttraining measures. Suggestions for future research include measuring change in practice as a result of the training. Implications of our findings are discussed.

BackgroundAlthough ~18 million people live within a mile from active oil and gas development (OGD) sites in the United States, epidemiological research on how OGD affects the health of nearby urban residents is sparse. Thousands of OGD sites are spread across Los Angeles (LA) County, California, home to the largest urban oil production in the country. The United Nations Human Rights Committee’s 2022 Decision, Daniel Billy et al. v. Australia (“Daniel Billy” or “the Decision”), brought by Indigenous Peoples residing on the Torres Strait Islands off the coast of Australia, is the first case before an international human rights body to find that a State’s failure to adopt timely climate adaptation measures violates the human rights of Indigenous Peoples living in that State. In Daniel Billy, the Human Rights Committee (“the Committee”) found a violation of the right to privacy, family, and home and the right to culture; but not the right to life. Drawing on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (“the Covenant”), the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), and recent developments in the field of climate change and international human rights law (IHRL), this Comment discusses the significance and the limitations of Daniel Billy regarding the protection of the rights of Indigenous Peoples and others affected by climate change. We find that the advancements made in Daniel Billy are a big step toward holding states accountable for inadequateclimate adaptation measures.In our analysis of the Decision’s shortcomings, however, we argue that Daniel Billy promises more than it delivers on two accounts. First, we argue that the failure of the Committee to clearly determine that states have a positive obligation to adopt climate change mitigation measures, in addition to adaptation measures is a significant limitation of the Decision. Without climate change mitigation, it will not be possible for Indigenous peoples on low-lyingi slands or in other climate-vulnerable locations to protect their land and way of life, the basis for several human rights. Further, climate change is perpetuated by industrialized states, but its effects are most keenly felt by communities, like that of the Torres Strait Islanders, who have contributed little to climate change. Neglecting to link states’ duty to mitigate climate change to human rights violations therefore ignores the colonial nature of climate change. Second, we argue that the Committee failed to consider the interconnectedness of the right to life with dignity in the context of climate change and Indigenous Peoples’ right to enjoy their culture when it rejected the Torres Strait Islanders’claim that Australia’s (in)action on climate change mitigation and adaptation violated the Islanders’ right to life with dignity. Notwithstanding these limitations, we conclude that the precedent set in Daniel Billy et a. v Australia will have a long-lasting positive impact in the fields of international environmental and human rights law.

Increasing development of coastal areas and recreational use of beaches, has been linked with greater threats associated with public health hazards with respect to sediment and sand present in these coastal areas. This study assessed the microbial and litter characteristics of Araromi Beach Sand, Ondo State, Nigeria using appropriate standard methods. Data obtained show that Twenty-nine microbes comprising 17 bacterial species, seven fungal species and five yeast species were isolated. The microbial load ranged from 1.45 × 10-4 CFU/g to 12.4 × 10-4 CFU/g which were found to be within the permissible limit (8 CFU/g to 250 CFU/g) as stated by the WHO. However, Microbial load showed significant difference (t=0.011) between the areas of high tourist activities and low tourist activities. Also, the beach sand litters were categorized into seven groups. However, the most common type of litter were Organic wastes in the form of dried leaves and tree branches (59%), followed by Plastic/Polystyrene (32%). The average litter density ranged from 10.00 litter/m² in July to 21.57 litter/m² in December. There was no provision for waste disposal and toilet facilities. Araromi beach falls under the Moderately Dirty category with Clean Coast Index values of 8.52 and 6.81 in the dry and wet seasons respectively. Overall, the results of this study shows that Araromi beach is still in an underdeveloped state with the host community the key contributors to the amount of waste found on the beach. It is therefore recommended that to attract more visitors and improve the overall beach experience, the local community and government should invest in regular beach clean-ups and waste management programs to keep the beach in a pristine condition. Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality for pregnant patients. A significant portion of cardiac morbidity and mortality is preventable and related to poor or delayed recognition of clinical warning signs and oversights in management. The establishment of pregnancy heart teams facilitates multidisciplinary planning to improve management of people with cardiovascular disease. Core members of the pregnancy heart team include obstetricians, midwives, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and patient care coordinators. Additional specialists and subspecialists are included on pregnancy heart teams based on individual patient needs. This review discusses the practical aspects of the pregnancy heart team's approach to caring for pregnant people with cardiovascular disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Successful conservation and management of fishes require an understanding of their age and growth. However, methods for estimating the age and growth of long‐lived fish species are difficult to validate. The Kootenai River basin has a decades‐long mark–recapture program for endangered White Sturgeon Acipenser transmontanus. The mark–recapture history information for White Sturgeon allowed for the evaluation of fin rays for age and growth analysis. Methods: Age was estimated from pectoral fin rays of known‐age White Sturgeon (n = 162) to evaluate ageing accuracy and precision. Lengths were back‐calculated using four models and measurements obtained from two fin ray transects (i.e., lateral and posterior). Result: Between‐reader agreement for White Sturgeon ages was 58.7%. Consensus age agreement with known ages was poor (30.7%) and decreased with age. Among the four back‐calculation models, the Fraser–Lee model provided the lowest root mean square error and percent error. Estimates of mean back‐calculated lengths at age derived from the Fraser–Lee model were similar between the two measurement transects. Back‐calculated lengths at age were similar to known lengths at age. Conclusion: Ageing of White Sturgeon using fin rays was unreliable, and accuracy decreased with fish age. Back‐calculated lengths at age were accurate using measurements from fin rays of known‐age fish. Length estimates from the two measurement transects were similar when using the Fraser–Lee method, suggesting that they may be used interchangeably. Impact statementValidation of age and growth information for long‐lived species is difficult. Although age estimates regularly underestimated true age of White Sturgeon, particularly for fish older than age 10, growth estimates were similar to known lengths at previous ages. As such, fin rays are likely suitable for evaluating age and growth of White Sturgeon, but results from such analyses should be interpreted with appropriate caution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The potential influence (i.e., impact rate) of catch‐and‐release fisheries on wild steelhead Oncorhynchus mykiss is poorly understood and is a function of the abundance of wild fish, how many fish are encountered by anglers (i.e., encounter rate), and the mortality of fish that are caught and released. In Idaho, estimates of wild steelhead encounter rates have been derived using the number of wild and hatchery steelhead passing Lower Granite Dam, the number of hatchery steelhead harvested, and the number of hatchery steelhead caught and released. The method includes assumptions that hatchery and wild steelhead have equal encounter rates and catch‐and‐release mortality is 5% for wild steelhead. Here, we investigated wild and hatchery steelhead encounter rates by anglers, estimated catch‐and‐release mortality, and concatenated both aspects to examine how existing recreational steelhead fisheries influence wild steelhead mortality. Methods: We sampled, tagged, and released 1,251 spawn‐year 2020 (SY2020) and 1,956 spawn‐year 2021 (SY2021) adult steelhead at Lower Granite Dam with T‐bar anchor tags and passive integrated transponder (PIT) tags to estimate steelhead encounter rates and catch‐and‐release mortality. Differences in survival of caught steelhead and those not reported as caught were evaluated using detections at various locations (e.g., PIT arrays, weirs). Result: Estimated encounter rates were 43.7% (95% credible interval; 28.2%, 100.0%) for wild fish and 46.7% (29.6%, 100.0%) for adipose‐clipped fish in SY2020. In SY2021, encounter rates were 47.2% (32.4%, 100.0%) for wild fish and 52.3% (37.1%, 100.0%) for adipose‐clipped fish. Based on detections of caught fish and those not reported as caught, catch‐and‐release mortality of wild steelhead was estimated to be 1.6% (0.0%, 5.2%). Wild steelhead impact rates were 0.7% (0.0%, 2.7%) in SY2020 and 0.7% (0.0%, 2.8%) in SY2021. Conclusion: Estimated rates of impact on wild steelhead were consistent and low across years despite major differences in the structure of the fisheries. Our results suggest assuming that encounter rates are equal between hatchery and wild steelhead, and that steelhead catch‐and‐release mortality is 5%, will likely lead to a conservative estimate of the wild steelhead impact occurring from catch‐and‐release fisheries. Impact statementWith wild steelhead numbers declining in many parts of North America, a dilemma between providing angling opportunity and wild steelhead conservation can develop. We show that encounter rate plays a larger role than mortality regarding catch‐and‐release angling on overall impact rates.
