Objectifs: Ce projet vise à déterminer les effets qu'un cours éducatif en ligne au sujet de l'approvisionnement en organes en salle d'opération (SOP) a eu sur le niveau de confiance et la compréhension des infirmières et des techniciens en chirurgie (surgical tech.) (surgical tech.) en salle d'opération. Échantillonnage et contexte: Les données ont été recueillies des infirmières et techniciens en chirurgie (surgical tech.) (surgical tech.) en SOP aux États-Unis dans un centre de traumatologie de niveau II, doté de 19 salles d'opération effectuant de huit à dix processus d'approvisionnement en organes par année. Dans le cadre de son projet intégrateur, une étudiante diplômée en leadership infirmier de cet hôpital a créé un cours éducatif en format Microsoft PowerPoint au sujet des processus d'approvisionnement en organes. Méthodologies et variables: Le cours a été conçu et offert par le biais du système de gestion de l'apprentissage en ligne qu'utilise l'hôpital. Une enquête rétrospective prétest et posttest a été développée et évaluait les effets du cours sur le niveau de confiance et la compréhension des participants. Conclusions: Dans l'ensemble, le niveau de compréhension et de confiance au sujet des processus d'approvisionnement en organes s'est amélioré chez les infirmières et les techniciens en chirurgie (surgical tech.) (surgical tech.) comparativement aux résultats globaux. Conséquences pour les soins périopératoires: Un cours éducatif peut améliorer la compréhension et la confiance des infirmières et des techniciens en chirurgie (surgical tech.) (surgical tech.) par rapport aux processus d'approvisionnement en organes. Une plus grande confiance et une meilleure compréhension peuvent favoriser des résultats positifs pour les processus d'approvisionnement en organes. Afin d'améliorer la confiance et la compréhension, l'éducation continue est nécessaire pour les interventions chirurgicales rarement effectuées comme les processus d'approvisionnement en organes. Objectives: This project aimed to determine the effects an online educational course about organ procurement procedures (OPPs) in the operating room (OR) had on the levels of confidence and understanding among OR registered nurses (RNs) and surgical technologists (STs). Sample and setting: Data was collected from OR RNs and STs in the United States (US) at a Level II trauma centre with 19 operating rooms that completes eight to ten OPPs per year. A graduate nursing leadership student in this hospital created a Microsoft PowerPoint educational course about OPPs as her capstone project. Methods and variables: The course was developed and offered through the online learning management system the hospital uses. A retrospective pretest- posttest survey was designed and evaluated the effects of the course on participants' levels of confidence and understanding. Results: The overall levels of understanding and confidence about OPPs improved in the RNs and STs, comparing aggregate scores. Implications for perioperative nursing: An educational course can enhance understanding of and confidence in OPPs for OR RNs and STs. Increased confidence and understanding can advance the successful outcomes of the OPPs. Ongoing education is needed to reinforce confidence and understanding in rarely done surgical procedures like OPPs. This study focused on the Level of Speaking Fluency and Accuracy of Senior High School Students: Basis for a Task-Based Language Teaching. It was conducted in a National High School in the province of Rizal with three (3) sections of Humanities and Social Sciences specifically one hundred and two (102) participants taken purposively through total enumeration technique and ten (10) Experts in teaching English served as respondents to evaluate the Questionnaire Checklist used in the study. The study used the descriptive-evaluative and experimental methods of research utilizing one shot design. The findings of the study revealed that the obtained grand mean of the developed task-based learning material in teaching Oral Communication among Senior High School learners in terms of Objectives, Contents, Organization, and Language and Style as evaluated by the Language Teachers and Instructors was interpreted as Very Highly Acceptable. Meanwhile, some learners who were exposed to the developed task-based learning material were found to be Limited User while significant number of them were categorized as Expert User. The band scores of the students from one activity to another got almost the same rating and showed quite same rating all throughout the activities and interpreted as Very Highly Acceptable. In the end, the study concluded that the developed task-based learning material contributed to facilitate the acquisition of the oral communication skills of the learners. The skeletal remains of nearly 100 Indigenous Bahamians, called Lucayans, have been recovered in the Bahama archipelago (Lucayan Islands). Until now, virtually, all were recovered from wet and dry caves, caverns, and blue holes, most of which lacked specific evidence for mortuary practices. In the aftermath of Hurricane Joaquin in October 2015, two human crania were found on Lowe's Beach, Long Island, The Bahamas. In addition, two burial areas were identified in the face of the adjacent, north‐facing, Atlantic coast sand dune. The human remains were identified as Indigenous Lucayans based on the intentional fronto‐occipital modification of the crania. These are the first open‐air, sand dune burials to be excavated systematically in The Bahamas, and they provide new insights regarding Lucayan burial practices and lifeways. This article describes the unique environmental and cultural contexts of Lucayan individuals who were buried at the Rolling Heads site. The local geomorphology reflects long‐term processes of dune erosion and remodeling that suggest that an unknowable number of additional individuals were buried at the site. The physical characteristics and mortuary practices are different from those observed elsewhere in the Caribbean, highlighting regional diversity and local practices. They raise the question of why different portals were used to transmit the dead to their afterlife. Finally, these individuals are contributing to regional studies assessing biological and cultural identities through genome‐wide DNA, phenotypic morphometrics, stable carbon and nitrogen isotope reconstruction of diet, strontium isotope assessment of origins, and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) dating to evaluate the timing of human dispersal across the Bahama archipelago. Objective: The Black Lives Matter Movement represents a decisive turning point in social discussions of race and discrimination. This worldwide initiative to confront racial inequality has permeated various cultural arenas, including the sciences. The recent proliferation of protests centered around US skeletal collections' acquisition and handling of African/African American human remains exemplifies this shift. Methods: This presentation traces the historical scientific framework influencing and promoting the display of human skeletal remains in US museums and the often illegal and unethical means employed to acquire such remains. We will also explore how many US states legalized the collection of unclaimed bodies for harvesting by anatomical programs, which disproportionately targeted the poor; immigrants; and in-migrants marginalized by their race, class, mental health, and perceived criminality. Results: Given the absence of consent of many of the individuals currently housed in such museum skeletal collections, we propose implementation of a repatriation and reburial process influenced by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and the work of Dr. Michael Blakey. Dr. Blakey employed a clientage model of public engagement to reburial projects that positioned the descendant community as the moral authority in deciding if and how research was conducted. This approach confronts the objectifying tendencies of the scientific community by requiring scientists to both listen to and follow the wishes of the descendant community as their clients. Conclusion: Such democratization of scientific knowledge prevents human skeletal material from becoming redefined as merely a scientific object and preserves the personhood of these individuals in both life and death. The Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement has brought to the public eye longstanding issues of social and racial injustice which have permeated the experiences of individuals of African ancestry in the United States and abroad for centuries. Motivated by a desire to disassemble a framework of systemic racism, the BLM movement has infiltrated numerous social and political arenas including the sciences, demanding change. The impact of the BLM movement is evident in the attention recently garnered by protests of museum skeletal collections' acquisition and handling of African/African American human remains. It is from this vantage point that we explore the ethical issues pervasive within United States skeletal collections and forensically relevant issues surrounding the unclaimed decedents of marginalized populations; colonial/imperial ideological formations, which construct and sustain power differentials in anatomization; and conceive of a path forward that prioritizes personhood., (© 2021 American Association for Anatomy.)

Background: Telemedicine use has expanded substantially in recent years. Studies evaluating the impact of telemedicine modalities on downstream office visits have demonstrated mixed results. Introduction: We evaluated insurance claims of a large commercial payer, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM), to assess the frequency of follow-up visits following encounters initiated via telemedicine versus in-person. Materials and Methods: We used the BCBSM claim-level data set (2011-2017) to assess encounters in the following places of service: hospital outpatient, doctor's office, patient's home, or psychiatric daycare facility. We identified the primary diagnostic category for 30-day episodes of care using clinical classifications software (CCS) and multilevel clinical classifications software (ML-CCS). Our intervention group consisted of episodes initiated via telemedicine; our control group consisted of episodes initiated in-person. Our primary outcome was the percentage of 30-day episodes with a related visit (encounters occurring within the same period and CCS categories) across CCS categories. Our secondary outcome was the mean related visit rate. Results: The final data set included 4,982,456 patients and 68,148,070 claims, of which 53,853 were telemedicine related. Many episodes did not have related visits (the mean related visit rate was 16%). Telemedicine visits had a higher frequency of related visits across all CCS categories. Discussion: Episodes of care initiated via telemedicine more frequently generate related visits within a 30-day period. This increased health care utilization could represent excessive care or could reflect expanded access to care. Conclusion: Further research should explore the cause of this increased utilization and potential unintended consequences.
