This perspective article delves into the transformative potential of alkali‐activated materials, acid‐activated materials, and geopolymers in mitigating climate change and market challenges. To harness the benefits of these materials, a comprehensive strategy is proposed. This strategy aims to integrate these materials into existing construction regulations, facilitate certification, and promote market access. Emphasizing research and innovation, the article advocates for, increased funding to refine the chemistry and production of these materials, prioritizing low‐cost alternatives and local waste materials. Collaboration between academia and industry is encouraged to expedite technological advances and broaden applications. This article also underscores the need to develop economic and business models emphasizing the long‐term benefits of these materials, including lower life‐cycle costs and reduced environmental impact. Incentivizing adoption through financial mechanisms like tax credits and subsidies is suggested. The strategy also includes scaling up production technology, fostering industrial collaboration for commercial viability, and developing global supply chains. Educational programs for professionals and regulators are recommended to enhance awareness and adoption. Additionally, comprehensive life‐cycle assessments are proposed to demonstrate environmental benefits. The strategy culminates in expanding the applications of these materials beyond construction, fostering international collaboration for knowledge sharing, and thus positioning these materials as essential for sustainable construction and climate change mitigation. Acid‐based geopolymers are known for their high temperature resistance and good mechanical performances. Some compositions also exhibit water resistance, which make them suitable for outdoor applications. This work aims to understand accurately the steps occurring during the geopolymerization process and focuses on the type of networks forming at early stages of the reaction. The sample, prepared from metakaolin and phosphoric acid, has been analyzed at different durations and temperatures during its solidification, in order to identify which compounds would crystallize. The structural characterizations have been performed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X‐ray diffraction. Several Al–O–P compounds and especially AlPO4 polymorphs crystallize in these conditions. They belong to three families of aluminophosphates and are a reliable indication of the amorphous organization of the original sample. The first one is similar to the phases that appear in the phase transition sequences of silica, the second one is composed of AlPO4‐based zeolites, and the last one is characterized by the presence of aluminum in an octahedral network. The transitions between the different phases are also discussed. Finally, the water resistance of the calcined samples is improved, and the release of acidic species in the water is limited even after a calcination at low temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Craniopharyngiomas are rare hypothalamic-pituitary tumors found in young children, adolescents and adults, and their multidisciplinary management required, calls for consistent practices for practicioners, patients and families. The French Endocrine Society and French Society for Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes enlisted and coordinated adult and paediatric endocrinologists, neurosurgeons, pathologists, radiotherapists as well as psychologists, dieticians and a patient association, to draft a reference document on this severe disease. The management of craniopharyngiomas remains complex due to their aggressive nature, invasive behavior, and propensity for recurrence, requiring a sequential and measured therapeutic approach and follow-up in expert centers. Although patient survival rates are high, the consequences of both the tumor and its treatment can lead to serious comorbidities and impaired quality of life, particularly in those patients with lesional hypothalamic syndrome. Recent advances have allowed the two described tumor types - papillary and adamantinomatous - to be associated with distinct molecular signatures, specific pathophysiological mechanisms and ipso facto, distinct therapeutic approaches, including innovative medications for hyperphagia, that will continue to evolve. This consensus statement covers all stages in the management of patients with craniopharyngioma, from diagnosis to therapeutic strategies including the long-term follow-up., (Copyright © 2024. Growth failure is a frequent complication observed in children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and correlated to increased morbidity and mortality. To achieve a normal growth in children with CKD remains challenging for pediatric nephrologists. Growth failure in the setting of pediatric CKD is multifactorial and related to an impaired sensitivity to growth hormone and to a deficiency of IGF1 (insulin-like growth factor 1). Growth failure management has improved during the last two decades and consists of correcting any nutritional and metabolic abnormalities, of an improvement of dialysis for children on end-stage renal disease, and of an administration of a supraphysiologic dose of recombinant growth hormone to overcome GH insensitivity.
