The ATLAS Eventlndex is the global catalogue of all ATLAS real and simulated events. During the LHC long shutdown between Run 2 (20152018) and Run 3 (2022-2025) all its components were substantially revised and a new system was deployed for the start of Run 3 in Spring 2022. The new core storage system, based on HBase tables with a SQL interface provided by Phoenix, allows much faster data ingestion rates and scales much better than the old one to the data rates expected for the end of Run 3 and beyond. All user interfaces were also revised and a new command-line interface and web services were also deployed. The new system was initially populated with all existing data relative to Run 1 and Run 2 datasets, and then put online to receive Run 3 data in real time. After extensive testing, the old system, which ran in parallel to the new one for a few months, was finally switched off in October 2022. This paper describes the new system, the move of all existing data from the old to the new storage schemas and the operational experience gathered so far.

This paper describes the data collection, the technical design of the core storage, and the properties that make it fast and efficient, namely the compact and optimized design of the events table, which already holds more than 400 billion entries, and all the auxiliary tables, and the EventIndex Supervisor, in charge of orchestrating the whole data collection, now simplified thanks to the Loaders, the Spark jobs that load the data into the new core system. The extractors, in charge of preparing the pieces of data that the loaders will put into the final back-end, have been updated too. The data migration from HDFS to HBase and Phoenix is also described.

The ATLAS Spanish Tier-1 and Tier-2s have more than 18 years of experience in the deployment and development of LHC computing components and their successful operation. The sites are actively participating in, and in some cases coordinating, R&D computing activities in the LHC Run 3 and developing the computing models needed in the HL-LHC period. In this contribution, we present details on the integration of some components, such as HPC computing resources to execute ATLAS simulation workflows; the development of new techniques to improve efficiency in a cost-effective way; and improvements in Data Organization, Management and Access through storage consolidations, the use of data caches, and improving experiment data catalogues, through contributions such as Event Index. The design and deployment of novel analysis facilities using GPUs together with CPUs and techniques like Machine Learning are also presented. ATLAS Tier-1 and Tier-2 sites in Spain, are, and will be, contributing to significant R&D in computing and evaluating different models for improving performance of computing and data storage capacity in the LHC High Luminosity era.

Background: Delirium or an acute confusional state (ACS) is characterised as being a frequent and complex hospital complication in older adult patients, which can affect their level of independence and increase patient morbidity and mortality. Critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) frequently develop ICU delirium, leading to longer hospital and ICU stays, increased mortality and long-term impairment., Objectives: This review aims to assess existing evidence of interventions that can be considered effective for the management and prevention of delirium in ICUs, reducing short-term morbidity and mortality, ICU and hospital admission times and the occurrence of other long-term complications., Methodology: For this systematic review, we searched Medline, PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINHAL, LILACS, SciELO and Dialnet from January 2018 to August 2024, in English, Spanish and French. MeSH descriptors were adjusted to search the different databases. We also checked Prospero for ongoing systematic reviews., Main Results: The electronic search yielded a total of 2656 studies, of which 14 trials met the eligibility criteria, with a total of 14,711 participants. We included eight randomised clinical trial (RCTs), four cohort analyses, one systematic review and one observational trial, including participants over 65 years admitted to the ICU. Ten of these studies were based on pharmacological interventions, three of them examined non-pharmacological interventions and the remaining study examined mixed (pharmacological and non-pharmacological) interventions. Six placebo RCTs were included, plus four reported comparisons between different drugs. Regarding non-pharmacological interventions, nursing programmes focused on optimising modifiable risk factors or the use of therapies such as bright light are emerging. Regarding mixed interventions, we found the combination of invasive techniques and with sedoanalgesia., Conclusions: Due to its satisfactory level of sedation, dexmedetomidine is presented as a viable option because, although olanzapine offers safer results, postoperative administration angiotensin inhibitor systems significantly reduced the incidence of delirium. As for propofol, no significant differences were found. Among the non-pharmacological and mixed therapies, bright light therapy was able to reduce the incidence of delirium, and the combination of epidural/general anaesthesia was effective in all subtypes of delirium. Concerning the remaining interventions, the scientific evidence is still insufficient to provide a definitive recommendation.

The world's population continuous to shift towards older, less active and more sedentary lifestyles especially during middle age. In addition consumption of high-caloric diets, increases the risk of metabolic and cardiovascular afflictions. Developing clinical strategies to mitigate those health complications represent a difficult challenge. Our group has previously shown that combining metformin (MTF) and tert-butyl hydroquinone (tBHQ) treatments, in addition to exercise, partially prevents liver damage associated with obesity. Hence, we evaluated the role of exercise in combination with MTF and tBHQ (triple-treatment) to counteract mitochondrial damage in the liver from obese middle-aged female rats. Animals were fed a high-fat diet (HFD) starting at 21 days till 15 months of age. The treated groups performed a Fartlek-type exercise 5 days/week for 30 min/session. MTF and tBHQ were administered at a dose of 250 mg/kg/day, and 10 mg/kg/day, respectively, for 7 days/month from 10 to 15 months of age. Triple-treatment therapeutic approach promoted animal survival, and increased AMPK and PGC1α expression. Treatments increased mitochondrial ATP synthesis and OXPHOS complexes activities, recovered membrane potential, and decreased ROS production. Introduction: Female infertility is a multifactorial condition influenced by lifestyle and dietary factors. Understanding the relationship between nutritional status, dietary habits, and infertility could provide insights for targeted interventions., Methods: A case-control study was conducted in health centers and hospitals in Alicante, Spain. The study included 60 infertile and 30 fertile women aged 18-40, selected through consecutive sampling. Data on body composition and dietary intake were collected and analyzed., Results: Infertile women exhibited significantly lower muscle mass ( p = 0.005) and larger hip circumference ( p = 0.034) compared to fertile women. Additionally, a significant association was found between high red meat consumption and an increased risk of female infertility ( p = 0.011)., Discussion: These results suggest that body composition and dietary habits, particularly muscle mass and red meat intake, play a key role in female fertility. Interventions aimed at improving muscle mass, reducing localized body fat, and limiting red meat consumption may enhance fertility outcomes. Introduction: The psychiatric disorders and obesity comorbidity is related to neurocognitive impairment and inflammation. Exercise is crucial to improve and maintain healthy lifestyles. This randomized controlled trial tested the efficacy of aerobic exercise as promoter of neurocognitive improvement across psychiatric disorders with comorbid obesity (OB)., Methods: Patients with major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and, schizophrenia and with comorbid OB (n = 29) received brief healthy lifestyle counseling and were randomized into two groups: guided physical activity group (GPAG) (n = 10) which included 12 weeks of guided-exercise of moderate intensity and frequency, and incentive of autonomous physical activity proposals by the specialist. Standard physical activity group (SPAG) (n = 19) continue with their usual daily physical activity, without guidance or incentives, over 12 weeks. Peripheral blood biomarkers of inflammation, oxidative stress, vascular mechanisms, and metabolic activity, as well as neurocognitive and functional performance were assessed twice, before and after intervention. Mixed one-way analysis of variance and linear regression analyses were performed., Results: Individuals in GPAG showed better neurocognitive and functional performance than individuals in SPAG after physical activity training (p < 0.05; η²p = 0.14 to 0.15). A significant improvement in cognition before and after the physical activity training in the GPAG group was found (p < 0.0001; η²p = 0.29). In all cases, the effect size was from moderate to large. Inflammatory activity (interleukin [IL-6]), oxidative (mitochondrial reactive oxygen species [mROS] and mitochondrial membrane potential [ΔΨm]) and inter cellular adhesion molecule 1 [ICAM1], leukocyte-endothelium adhesion [LEPMN], and p-selectin [PSEL]) levels, and cardio-metabolic (low-density lipoprotein [LDL], systolic blood pressure [SBP], and insulin) processes were significant predicting neurocognitive improve of individuals with psychiatric disorders and comorbid OB., Conclusions: Physical activity programs may have positive impact on neurocognitive and functional performance in individuals with psychiatric disorders and OB. Exercise influences inflammatory, oxidative, vascular, and cardio-metabolic pathways, and modulate cognition. Thyroid hormone binds to specific nuclear receptors, regulating the expression of target genes, with major effects on cardiac function. Triiodothyronine (T3) increases the expression of key proteins related to calcium homeostasis, such as the sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase pump, but the detailed mechanism of gene regulation by T3 in cardiac voltage-gated calcium (Cav1.2) channels remains incompletely explored. Furthermore, the effects of T3 on Cav1.2 auxiliary subunits have not been investigated. We conducted quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, Western blot, and immunofluorescence experiments in H9c2 cells derived from rat ventricular tissue, examining the effects of T3 on the expression of α1c, the principal subunit of Cav1.2 channels, and Cavβ4, an auxiliary Cav1.2 subunit that regulates gene expression. The translocation of phosphorylated cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element-binding protein (pCREB) by T3 was also examined. We found that T3 has opposite effects on these channel proteins, upregulating α1c and downregulating Cavβ4, and that it increases the nuclear translocation of pCREB while decreasing the translocation of Cavβ4. Finally, we found that overexpression of Cavβ4 represses the mRNA expression of α1c, suggesting that T3 upregulates the expression of the α1c subunit in response to a decrease in Cavβ4 subunit expression.

Objective: Most endodontic diseases are bacterium-mediated inflammatory or necrotic process induced by contaminated dental pulp. Although great advances are being performed to obtain more efficient antibacterial strategies for persistent infections, most studies lack of representative models to test their antibacterial effects and their outcomes cannot be promptly translated to clinical practice. Therefore, this study aimed to refine an ex vivo endodontic biofilm model combining human tooth, computer guided design and 3D printing to obtain a more reproducible and predictable model., Methods: Monoradicular teeth were cut using three different methods: hand-held (HCC), mechanical precision (MPC) and computer aid guided cutting (CGC). Then, blocks were reassembled. The different model preparations were assessed in terms of dimensional tolerance, surface analysis, liquid tightness and Enterococcus faecalis biofilm development for 21 days, which was studied by metabolic assays and confocal microscopy. Then, the proposed model was validated using different commercial disinfecting treatments., Results: CGC exhibited significantly lower deviation and surface without defects compared to HHC and MPC, leading to superior liquid tightness. Similarly, mature biofilms with high metabolic activity and vitality were observed in all conditions, CGC showing the lowest variation. The management of solid waste in rural areas of developing countries faces significant challenges due to economic constraints and irregular human settlements. These factors often lead to the creation of unauthorized disposal sites, which pose risks to human health, ecosystems and the economy. Remote sensing and geographic information system techniques provide a means to understand the complex issues associated with inadequate municipal solid waste (MSW) disposal. This study aimed to identify unauthorized disposal sites in the rural areas of southern Quintana Roo, Mexico, by examining land surface temperature (LST) and vegetation indices as potential indicators of unauthorized final disposal sites (FDSs). The findings reveal that 13% of the study areas have a high, moderate or low probability of hosting unauthorized disposal sites. Additionally, 3 authorized final disposal sites (FDSs) were confirmed, and 20 unauthorized sites were identified. LST and the normalized difference vegetation index were effective in detecting unauthorized sites, as these areas exhibited higher temperatures and less vigorous vegetation compared to adjacent areas. Lactococcus lactis is a Gram-positive bacterium used to produce fermented foods and heterologous proteins. Its Nisin-controlled gene expression system stands out for its versatility and safety. However, the lower GC content in its genome may lead to some limitations in protein production. In this study, we explored the importance and effect of codon optimization on fluorescent reporter protein expression in L. lactis. Three non-optimized fluorescent reporter genes (gfp, rfp, and mcherry) were compared to the codon-optimized variant (mcherry-O). Parameters such as Codon Adaptation Index (CAI), Effective Number of Codons (Enc) and Guanine-Cytosine percentage (% GC) were determined to assess their influence on gene expression and protein synthesis. The production of non-optimized fluorescent proteins does not correlate with their gene expression levels, except for the codon-optimized mCherry-O protein, which was detected in the SDS-PAGE gel and the extracted lysate (visually detected). Expression of the mcherry gene was similar to the mcherry-O gene, but protein was only detected with the optimized gene. The gfp gene showed the highest expression levels, but the quantity of protein was undetectable by SDS-PAGE. The rfp gene was revealed to be an optimized gene but not tailored for L. lactis. These findings underscore the necessity of comprehensive codon optimization for foreign genes in L. lactis and reveal intriguing complexities between expression levels, RNA stability and protein synthesis., (© 2024. Mexican Coccoloba uvifera fruit contains polyphenols, flavonoids, and anthocyanins, while in the leaves, lupeol, α- and β-amyrin have been previously identified by HPLC. However, the low resolution by HPLC of pentacyclic triterpenes (PTs) is a limitation. Moreover, the volatile profile of C. uvifera fruit is still unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to identify PTs in C. uvifera leaf and fruit extracts by CG-MS analysis and to determine the volatile profile of C. uvifera pulp by headspace solid-phase microextraction. The results showed trimethylsilylated compounds of standards lupeol, α- and β-amyrin, indicating that the silylation reaction was suitable. These trimethylsilylated compounds were identified in leaf and fruit extracts. The fruit volatile profile revealed the presence of 278 esters, 20 terpenes, 9 aldehydes, 5 alcohols, and 4 ketones. The fruit showed a high content of esters and terpenes. Due to their flavour properties, esters are essential for the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutics industries. Moreover, terpenes in the fruit, such as menthone, β-elemene, junipene, and β-caryophyllene have the potential as anticancer and phytopathogen agents. The results indicated that GC-MS is an alternative to HPLC approaches for identifying PTs. Besides, identifying volatile compounds in the fruit will increase the value of this plant and expand its application. Identifying PTs and volatile compounds in Mexican C. uvifera leads to a better understanding of the potential benefits of this plant. Jackfruit leaf protein hydrolysates obtained from the enzymatic hydrolysis of leaf protein concentrate with gastrointestinal enzymes have shown good techno-functional properties and high antioxidant capacity. However, molecular weight, antiproliferative activity, cytotoxicity and the ability to reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) are still unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of jackfruit leaf protein hydrolysates obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis with pepsin and pancreatin at different hydrolysis times (30-240 min) on molecular weights, cytotoxicity, antiproliferation of cancer cells, and the reduction of reactive oxygen species in H 2 O 2 -induced HaCaT cells. The electrophoretic profile indicated that H-Pep contains peptides with molecular weights between 25 - 20 kDa. Meanwhile, H-Pan is composed of molecular weight products between 25 - 20 kDa and < 20 kDa. H-Pan and H-Pep (125-500 µg/mL) did not show significant cytotoxicity on HaCaT (human keratinocytes) and J774A.1 (murine macrophage cells). Antiproliferative activity was achieved in human cervical, ovarian, and liver cancer cells. H-Pan-240 min (1000 µg/mL) reduced the cell viability of cervical cancer cells by 23% while H-Pan-60 min significantly reduced cell viability of ovarian and liver cancer cells by 14.5 (500 µg/mL) and 17% (1000 µg/mL), respectively (P < 0.05). The protective effect against oxidative stress on H 2 O 2 -stressed HaCaT cells was obtained with H-Pep-60 min, which reduced 25% of ROS at 250 µg/mL (P < 0.05). Introduction: Background and objective: endometriosis is a hormone-dependent disorder characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue in extrauterine sites, which can trigger a chronic inflammatory reaction. This disease mainly affects women of childbearing age and can have a negative impact on their physical, mental and social well-being. There are eating patterns considered as anti-inflammatory, such as the Mediterranean diet, which could help in the prevention and treatment of endometriosis. The objective of this review was to know the relationship between the consumption of different food groups and the prevention of endometriosis. Materials and methods: a systematic review was carried out following the PRISMA methodology. PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases were consulted. Studies published between 2013 and 2023 were selected, accessible in full text, written in English and Spanish and including a sample of women with endometriosis and/or healthy women, in addition to evaluating the relationship between diet and endometriosis. Unrelated articles, systematic reviews or meta-analyses, pilot studies and studies conducted in animals were excluded. Results: a total of ten studies were included. The consumption of fruits, vegetables (not cruciferous), dairy products, fish, potatoes, legumes, vitamins (A, C, D and B12), monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids and minerals (calcium, potassium and magnesium) seems to reduce the risk of endometriosis. Conclusions: further studies investigating the relationship between consumption of different food groups and risk of endometriosis are needed.

Non-toroidal-shaped primary pass-through protection current transformers (CTs) are used to measure high currents. Their design provides them with a big airgap that allow the passing of several cables per phase though them, which is the main advantage versus toroidal types, as the number of CTs required to measure the whole phase current is drastically reduced. The cables passed through the transformer window can be in several positions. As the isolines of the magnetic field generated by the primary currents are centered in the cables, if these cables are not centered in the transformer window, then the magnetic field will be non-uniform along the transformer core. Consequently, local saturations can appear if the cables are not properly disposed, causing the malfunction of the CT. In this paper, the performance of a non-toroidal-shaped protection CT is studied. This research is focused on the influence of the cable position on possible partial saturations of the CT when it is operating near to its accuracy limit. Depending on the cable position, the ratio of the primary and secondary currents can depart from the assigned ratio. The validation of this phenomenon was carried out via finite element analysis (FEA), showing that partial transformer core saturations appear in areas of the magnetic core close to the cable. By applying FEA, the admissible accuracy region for cable positioning inside the CT is also delimited. Finally, the simulation results are ratified with experimental tests performed in non-toroidal protection CTs, varying the primary cables' positions, which are subjected to currents up to 5 kA, achieving satisfactory results. From this analysis, installation recommendations are given.

Background: Obesity is a chronic medical condition caused by an excessive accumulation of body fat that represents a major risk factor for public health. The relationship between obesity, quality of life (QoL) and mental health has been examined in some previous literature. However, the studies found have not linked anthropometric variables with QoL factors, as they have used generic questionnaires., Objective: The present study aimed to analyse the influence of anthropometric variables on the QoL of people with obesity and examine its relationship with psychological variables., Methods: It was a cross-sectional study composed of 77 Spanish participants adults (M = 45.12 years; SD = 10.29) collected from two different research projects. The measurements were carried out in the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Alicante (Spain), including sociodemographic variables, anthropometric data and psychological questionnaires., Results: The finding demonstrated the relationship between anthropometric variables and all QoL factors. Also, individuals with lower QoL exhibit more symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress and are more prone to emotional eating., Conclusions: The findings highlight the necessity of integrating psychological support into obesity treatment strategies, as well as the importance of using QoL questionnaires specific to people with obesity., (© The Author(s) 2024.
