Wastewater generation and treatment is an ever-increasing concern in the current century due to increased urbanization and industrialization. Hazardous contamination of water is a major hurdle in the provision of usable and drinkable water to the world. Innovative, economic, renewable and environment friendly technologies are need of the hour for wastewater treatment. Numerous wastewater treatment techniques, including physical, chemical, and biological (primary to tertiary treatment) approaches, are used to address the issue of growing environmental hazards. Various treatment techniques being used have the risks of producing secondary pollutants. The most promising technique is the use of different materials as adsorbents that have a higher efficacy in treating wastewater, with a minimal production of secondary pollutants. Adsorption Technology is used for Grey water treatment.

The objective was to identify different haplotypes network of pink bollworm and their distribution in south India using the partial mitochondrial COI sequence of pink bollworm populations. Genetic diversity analysis exhibited the presence of 5 haplotypes in COI gene sequences, and among them, Hap_1 was the most common and present in 17 populations. Distributions of pairwise differences obtained with partial COI data from the overall populations were unimodal, suggesting population expansion. A significant neutrality test based on Tajima’s D, Fu and Li’s D and F test presented a haplotype network with multiple haplotypes. The acceptance of the neutrality test with significant positive values validated the theory of demographic expansion in cotton pink bollworm populations with respect to COI. The pink bollworm has a population genetic diversity among the investigated populations collected from south India.

Leading cause of death world side is because of severe health problems due to cancer. Compounds occurring naturally from plants known as phytochemical are rich sources of anticancer drug development, in depth screening assessments are necessary. The objective of the present study aimed to investigate the mechanistic pathway of antiproliferative activity of ethanolic Andrographis paniculata seed extract against Hepatocellular carcinoma cell (HepG2) cell line. Cell cycle arrest and apoptosis study was performed by Flow cytometry analysis. The expression of certain apoptosis gene associated with cell cycle regulation was conducted by QRT-PCR assay to assess the effect of ethanolic Andrographis paniculata seed extract on HepG2 cells. Andrographis paniculata seed extract inhibited cell proliferation and arrest proliferation on HepG2 cells at G2/M phase when compared to untreated cells. The ethanol extract of Andrographis paniculata seed found to be active cell inhibitor at the time and dose dependent manner. The QRT-PCR assay report reveals that pro-apoptotic genes BCL2 Associated X (BAX), Caspase-3, Caspase-8 genes on both treated and untreated cells. B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) is down regulated in treated groups compared to untreated group and Beta actin was used as internal control.

An experiment was conducted at the Department of Cotton, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore to evaluate the field efficacy of an egg parasitoid, Trichogrammatoidea bactrae Nagaraja through inundative releases against Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders) in cotton for two successive field trials during Kharif 2021 and 22. The parasitisation efficacy of T. bactrae was tested in the cotton ecosystem and the results revealed that the parasitism on the eggs was found be on par with that observed with NSKE 5% concentration (24.63%), neem formulation 1500 ppm 1% concentration (24.10%), Pongamia extract 5% concentration (23.13%), Jatropha extract 5% concentration (23.93%) and were found the safest to T. bactrae. The emamectin benzoate 5 SG at 190g/ ha (19.49%) and clorantraniliprole 18.5 SC at 150 mL/ ha (15.26%) were on par with each other. Results suggested that among the insecitcides tested emamectin benzoate 5 SG and chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC were safer to T. bactrae and inundative release of T. bactrae can achieve sizeable control of P. gossypiella, hence it can be integrated with other components for IPM.

A study was conducted to understand the stability of seed cotton yield of 105 Bt cotton hybrids (BGI and BGII) using Additive Main effects and Multiplicative Interactions (AMMI) analysis across three diverse locations in India during rainy season 2018. This study holds importance as the hybrids were resistant to Helicoverpa bollworms due to Bt events (MON531 and MON15985) in them which were expected to nullify variation arising out of differential bollworm pressure in different location, unlike in non Bt hybrids where this variation also played role in the stability of the hybrids. The main effect differences among hybrids (41.23 %), environments (39.56 %) and the interaction effects (19.21%) were highly significant of the total variance of seed cotton yield indicating a large difference between the testing location causing different hybrids to perform differently across the testing environments. The first two principal components axes (IPCA I and IPCA II) were highly significant and contributed 52.12 % and 47.88% of total interaction respectively. The distance from the origin and the placement of locations in different quadrants of biplot reflected that the locations were substantially discriminatory as Aurangabad and Dharwad, which were high yielding and Raichur was low yielding. Results showed that hybrids IAHH-8096 BGII, IAHH-8103 BGI, IAHH-8061 BGII and IAHH-8007 BGII were having lowest interaction and stable across the location, whereas hybrids IAHH-8080 BGI, IAHH-8084 BGI, IAHH-8004 BGII and IAHH-8105 BGI were having more interaction and unstable genotypes. Large frequency of hybrids (57) were stable with IPCA scores nearing zero and low ASV values which is attributed resistance to bollworm due to Bt events.

Background Cardiac rehabilitation (CR), an integral component of cardiovascular disease (CVD) management in developed countries, is yet to become mainstream in India. With the prevailing gross mismatch between the need and the availability of CR services, an alternative model such as home-based CR may be the potential solution to challenges such as accessibility issues, transportation cost and lack of time. Purpose This study aimed to compare the efficacy of home-based versus centre-based CR in an Indian CVD population. Methods All CVD patients who participated in our centre-based and home-based CR programs between mid-2014 and mid-2022 were included in the study. Subjects who did not complete their post program evaluation (n=15) were excluded. Demographic data and data pertaining to CVD risk factors, nature of CVD, procedure undergone and details of CR program provided were documented for all subjects. A multidisciplinary team consisting of Physician, Physiotherapist, Dietician, and Counseling Psychologist provided the CR program in-person or using telehealth platforms for the centre-based and home-based programs respectively. Subjects who attended some in-person and some home-based sessions were categorized based on the nature of the majority sessions. Results Age of the subjects (n=106) was 60±13 years, 94 (89%) were male and 22 (21%) were residing outside Chennai. While the risk factor and disease profiles were comparable, the home-based group was younger, had more out of Chennai participants and attended more sessions over a longer duration compared to the centre-based group (Table 1). The higher number of hybrid revascularization procedures in the home-based group corroborates with this being the preferred modality for acute coronary syndrome management during the pandemic-led lockdown. There was a significant improvement in body mass index, systolic blood pressure, 6-minute walk distance and left ventricular ejection fraction in those who completed the centre-based as well as home-based CR programs (Table 2). Conclusions Home-based CR is as efficacious as centre-based CR, is easier to deploy and helps overcome challenges inherent to centre-based CR such as transportation and time constraints. Home-based CR has potential to become the main mode of CR delivery in low-resource settings in the future.

Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background We have witnessed a dramatic dip in adherence to cardiovascular health behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from across the globe has shown that risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) such as decreased physical activity, poor diet, and increased depression, loneliness, and stress have peaked during the pandemic. Having been badly affected by the pandemic and having had prolonged periods of countrywide lockdown, the at-risk and established CVD population has faced a major challenge in adhering to a healthy lifestyle in India. Purpose This study aimed to analyze the change in cardiovascular health behaviors brought about by a comprehensive lifestyle intervention program (CLIP) during the pandemic in India. Methods All at-risk and CVD patients who had participated in the CLIP from mid 2020 to mid 2022 and had completed the internally validated health behavior assessment questionnaire, pre and post-program, were included in this retrospective study. A multidisciplinary team consisting of Physician, Physiotherapist, Dietician, and Counseling Psychologist provided the sessions online and/or in-person for the home-based and hybrid programs respectively. When a combination of online and in-person sessions were provided for a subject, it was called a hybrid program. The core components of the CLIP were exercise training, education on relevant health topics, nutritional guidance and psychosocial counseling. Results Age of the subjects (n=50) at enrolment was 54±13 years and 40 (80%) were male. The time between pre-program and post-program assessments was 110 (IQR 47) days. Number of at-risk and CVD patients attending home-based and hybrid programs are shown in the Figure. There were 4 couples in the study cohort; 21 (50%) of the remaining 42 subjects had at least 1 other family member attend the majority of sessions. There was a significant improvement in all the cardiovascular health behaviors, namely adequate daily intake of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, choice of heart-healthy foods between meals, sufficient weekly exercise and a reduction in self-reported chronic stress, upon completion of the CLIP (Table). Conclusions A comprehensive lifestyle intervention program that incorporates a multipronged approach to behavior modification is effective in improving cardiovascular health behaviors in individuals at-risk as well as with established cardiovascular disease in India. The ripple effect of behavior modification in the accompanying family members needs to be studied systematically.

The aim of this work is to prepare ternary blended polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)–urea hydrogels containing Ormocarpum cochinchinense, Cinnamomum zeylanicum and antibiotic cephalexin by freezing-thawing method in order to assess the wound healing qualities. In addition to being a synthetic polymer, PVA is a recyclable and biocompatible artificial polymer blend that has attracted a lot of interest in biological applications. The freezing-thawing process with PVA–urea blend is used to make hydrogel film. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and swelling investigations were carried out for the composite membranes. Biological studies involving antibacterial, antifungal, cytotoxicity and wound healing activities were also carried out for the composite membranes. The composite membrane developed has a lot of potential for wound dressing and other applications.

Background: Gossypium hirsutum, the most widely cultivated crop in the world has concurrent importance for both fibre quality and yield. Polygenes regulate cotton output and a variety of factors affect the characteristic. As a result, it is essential to have thorough knowledge of the relationships between different component traits and fibre quality. Thus, the aim of the study was framed to know about the correlation along with cause-and-effect relationship among the economic traits. Mathod: Eight parents and 56 hybrids made up the experimental sample for our study, which were evaluated for 18 economically significant traits. The study was conducted at Department of Cotton, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, in 2021-2022. Results: Analysis of variance was highly significant for all the traits studied. The result of correlation revealed that the traits viz., number of bolls per plant, boll weight, number of seeds per boll, upper half mean length and fibre strength had a high magnitude of positive correlation with seed cotton yield at both genotypic and phenotypic levels. Path analysis represented the direct effects of upper half mean length, uniformity index, number of bolls per plant, number of seeds per boll and fibre strength on seed cotton yield. Hence, these traits can be used as selection criteria for yield improvement in cotton.

Complete binary decay of [Formula: see text]Og formed in the heavy-ion fusion reaction is studied in the frame work of Yukawa-plus-exponential potential with a third-order polynomial potential for the overlapping region. Preformation probability, which is taken as the probability of penetration in the overlapping region, calculated for the use of reduced classical hydrodynamical mass, reveals the preference for near symmetric fission fragments [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], in competency with alpha decay. Influence of the parameter [Formula: see text] of classical hydrodynamical mass is studied in preformation values. Half-life calculated for alpha decay matches well with experimental value for the use of reduced mass. Half-lives calculated for symmetric, near symmetric fragments [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] are found to be low for the use of reduced hydrodynamical mass and promises preference of near symmetric fragments emission, as a competing decay mode to alpha decay and confirms the role of shell structure in deciding the most probable fragment.
