Natural plant-based coagulants have been used for water treatment since ancient times, and they are friendly with the environment. The objective of this work was to evaluate the turbidity and color removal capacity of a coagulant mixture of Crotaloria longirostrata powder and aluminum sulfate vs aluminum sulfate. The optimal dose of commercial aluminum sulfate (treatments) and the natural coagulant mixtures of C. longirostrata powder and aluminum sulfate were evaluated, that had the highest turbidity and color (independent variable) removal of a domestic wastewater. A PhilesMR brand jar test kit was used to determine optimal coagulant dosages. Turbidity and color were measured with a Lamote brand turbidimeterMR. A simple one-factor completely randomized design was used and an analysis of variance followed by a multiple Tukey test to find statistically significant differences between the different treatments. Mixtures of C. longirostrata powder with aluminum sulfate (75 mg / L of C longirostrata powder + 175 mg / L of sulfate) removed a greater amount of turbidity and color than the optimal dose of aluminum sulfate (250 mg/L) with removals of 83.4% of turbidity and 64.9% of color respectively. The results managed to reduce the use of aluminum sulfate by 30%. The use of C. longirostratapowder as an aid in the removal of turbidity and color does not have toxic effects since it is an edible shrub., Los coagulantes naturales a base de plantas se han usado para el tratamiento de aguas desde tiempos remotos y son amigables con el medio ambiente. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la capacidad de remoción de turbiedad y color de una mezcla coagulante de polvo Crotaloria longirostrata y sulfato de aluminio vs sulfato de aluminio. Se evaluó la dosis optima de sulfato de aluminio comercial y las mezclas coagulantes natural de polvo de C. longirostrata y sulfato de aluminio (tratamientos) que tuvieran la mayor remoción de turbiedad y color (variable respuesta) de un agua residual doméstica. Se utilizó un equipo de prueba de jarras marca PhilesMR para la determinación de las dosis optimas de coagulantes. La turbiedad y color se midieron con un turbidímetro marca LamoteMR. Se usó un diseño simple completamente aleatorizado de un factor y un análisis de varianza seguido de un contraste múltiple de Tukey para encontrar diferencias estadísticas significativas entre los diferentes tratamientos. Las mezclas de polvo de C. longirostrata con sulfato de aluminio (75 mg/L de polvo de C. longirostrata + 175 mg/L de sulfato) removieron una mayor cantidad de turbiedad y color que la dosis optima de sulfato de aluminio (250 mg/L), con remociones de 83.4% de turbiedad y 64.9% de color respectivamente. Los resultados lograron reducir un 30% el uso del sulfato de aluminio. El uso de polvo C. longirostrata como coadyuvante en la remoción de turbiedad y color no tiene efectos tóxicos ya que es un arbusto comestible.

Eucalyptus grandis plantations are of great importance, from a social point of view due to their great commercial value, and from an ecological point of view because they are capable of harboring a certain biodiversity of species. The leaf area index (LAI) is an important indicator to measure the health of these plantations related to productivity. The objective of this research is to estimate the LAI from Sentinel images in Eucalyptus grandis plantations. Sentinel satellite images were used to estimate the LAI in the plantations, later the statistical analyzes were carried out by means of a comparison of independent means. Values were obtained as the mean that was 2.0 of the leaf area index in the plantations, these results were very similar to those obtained in other investigations carried out in the field. Therefore, it is recommended to use this methodology in other types of plantations, since it can be used to be applied in other equations to calculate the potential yield of crops., Las plantaciones de Eucalyptus grandis son de gran importancia, desde el punto de vista social por su gran valor comercial, y desde el punto de vista ecológico porque son capaces de albergar cierta biodiversidad de especies. El índice de área foliar (IAF) es un indicador importante para medir la salud de estas plantaciones relacionado con la productividad. El objetivo de la presente investigación es estimar el IAF a partir de las imágenes Sentinel en plantaciones de Eucalyptus grandis. Se utilizaron imágenes de satélite Sentinel para estimar el IAF en las plantaciones, posteriormente se realizaron los análisis estadísticos mediante una comparación de medias independientes. Se obtuvieron valores como la media que fue de 2.0 del índice de área foliar en las plantaciones, estos resultados fueron muy similares a los obtenidos en otras investigaciones realizadas en campo. Por lo que, se recomienda usar esta metodología en otro tipo de plantaciones, ya que puede servir para aplicarse en otras ecuaciones para calcular el rendimiento potencial de cultivos.
