Abstract N. neocaledoniensis is a very rare infectious pathogen that causes human disease, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. In this case report, we describe the successful diagnosis of N. neocaledoniensis in a patient confirmed by mNGS and the treatment of multiple skin abscesses due to N. neocaledoniensis infection. mNGS is an important diagnostic method complementary to routine bacterial culture and identification methods, especially for rare, novel, co-infected pathogens, and pathogens that are difficult to culture. This report may provide a reference for the clinical treatment and diagnosis of N. neocaledoniensis infection in humans.

Abstract Atmospheric turbulence over the Arctic sea‐ice surface has been understudied due to the lack of observational data. In this study, we focus on the turbulence kinetic energy (TKE) over sea ice and distinguish its two different vertical structures, the “Surface” type and the “Elevated” type, using observations during the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate expedition (MOSAiC). The “Surface” type has the maximum TKE near the surface (at 2 m), while the “Elevated” type has the maximum TKE at a higher level (6 m). The TKE budget analysis indicates that the “Elevated” type is caused by the increased shear production of TKE at 6 m. In addition, spectral analysis reveals that the contribution to TKE by horizontal large eddies is enhanced in the “Elevated” type. Finally, how the vertical structure of TKE affects the parameterization of turbulent momentum flux is discussed.

Vibriovulnificus is a pathogen that can cause serious and fatal infections, primarily associated with a history of contact with the sea or aquatic organisms or products. However, with global climate change and increased global seafood trade, V. vulnificus infections are also occurring in non-coastal areas. In this report, we present the successful diagnosis and treatment of a case of necrotizing wound caused by V. vulnificus infection in an inland city in southwest China. In addition, we review the epidemiology and distribution of V. vulnificus in China and related vaccine research, which may provide a reference for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of V. vulnificus infection.

Abstract The effects of atmospheric thermal structure on the surface energy flux are poorly understood over the Arctic sea‐ice surface. Here, we explore the mechanism of sensible heat exchange under different types of thermal structures over the Arctic sea‐ice surface by using data collected during the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate expedition. The quadrant analysis indicates that strong surface temperature inversions below 100 m enhance non‐local effects on the positive (upward) sensible heat flux (w′θ′‾) through entrainment of large eddies from the convective boundary layer aloft. However, strong surface inversions restrict the contributions of large eddies to the negative (downward) w′θ′‾ due to intensified surface stability. By inspecting the existing parameterization schemes, we found that the European Center for Medium‐Range Weather Forecasts Integrated Forecasting System scheme fails to predict the impacts of non‐local processes on the positive w′θ′‾, and an adjustment term to correct the bias of parameterized w′θ′‾ is proposed.

In this paper, high-activity manganese oxide was prepared from electrolytic manganese anode slime to realize the efficient removal of antibiotics. The effects of sulfuric acid concentration, ethanol dosage, liquid–solid ratio, leaching temperature and leaching time on the leaching of manganese from electrolytic manganese anode slime were systematically studied. Under the optimal conditions, the leaching rate of manganese reached 88.74%. In addition, a Mn3O4 catalyst was synthesized and used to activate hydrogen persulfate (PMS) to degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH). The synthesized Mn3O4 was characterized by XRD, XPS, Raman, SEM and HRTEM. As a result, the prepared Mn3O4 is spherical, with high purity and crystallinity. The catalytic activity of Mn3O4 for PMS to degrade TCH was increased to 82.11%. In addition, after four cycles, the performance remained at 78.5%, showing excellent stability and recyclability. In addition, O2− and 1O2 are the main active species in the degradation reaction. The activity of Mn3O4 is attributed to it containing Mn(II) and Mn(III) at the same time, which can quickly realize the transformation of high-valence and low-valence manganese, promote the transfer of electrons and realize the degradation of organic pollutants.

Due to the special structures and geographical environments of the main transport roadway of underground coal mines, it is difficult to deal with accidents and rescues in cases of fire and it is easy to cause casualties and structural damage of the roadway. In this study, a roadway fire model was established using FDS software on the basis of theoretical analysis. The smoke diffusion, temperature distribution, and CO concentration distribution in a fire period were simulated under four working conditions. The results showed that the time required for the smoke layer to descend to human breathing height was positively correlated with the distance between the position and the fire source. Under the most unfavorable conditions, the smoke reached human breathing height at 15.11 s and 100 m away from the fire source. After the fire broke out, the ambient temperature in the roadway rose rapidly, and the highest temperature in the area adjacent to the fire source reached 340 °C. The farther away from the fire source, the lower the temperature, but it was still higher than the human body's optimum temperature (25 °C) until 200 m away.
