Abstract

Abstract Tropospheric ozone significantly damages vegetation and reduces net primary productivity (NPP). We developed a stable linear NPP response model based on accumulated ozone exposure over a threshold of 40 parts per billion (ppb) (AOT40). We then estimated the effects of regional ozone damage on NPP for different vegetation types. The study suggests an average decrease in NPP of 24.7% due to ozone pollution in the North China Plain, similar to previous estimates ranging from 10.1% to 24.7%, with a maximum reduction exceeding 200 [g C m‐2 yr‐1] and more than 50%. Vegetation types such as broadleaf forests, needleleaf forest, crops, and grasses showed significant NPP decreases of 47.1%, 37.8%, 36.7%, and 44.6%, respectively. Declining NPP also had negative impacts on several Chinese crop species. Our work highlights the need for urgent and effective action to mitigate ozone pollution's substantial detrimental effects on ecosystem health and productivity.

Abstract

To investigate the impact of aging on the sources, volatility, and viscosity of organic aerosol (OA) in Chinese outflows, a high-resolution time-of-flight aerosol mass spectrometer (HR-AMS) coupled with a thermodenuder (TD) was deployed in the spring of 2018 in Dongying, which is a regional receptor site of metropolitan emissions in the North China Plain (NCP). The average mass concentration of PM1 is 31.5±22.7 µg m−3, which is mainly composed of nitrate (33 %) and OA (25 %). The source apportionment results show that the OA is mainly contributed by oxygenated OA (OOA) from secondary sources, including background-OOA (33 %) representing a background concentration of OA (2.6 µg m−3) in the NCP area, and transported-OOA (33 %) oxidized from urban emissions. The other two factors include aged hydrocarbon-liked OA (aged-HOA, 28 %) from transported vehicle emissions and biomass burning OA (BBOA, 5 %) from local open burning. The volatility of total OA (average C*=3.2×10-4 µg m−3) in this study is generally lower than that reported in previous field studies, which is mainly due to the high OA oxidation level resulting from aging processes during transport. The volatilities of OA factors follow the order of background-OOA (average C*=2.7×10-5 µg m−3) < transported-OOA (3.7×10-4µgm-3)< aged-HOA (8.1×10-4µgm-3)< BBOA (0.012 µg m−3). Extremely low volatilities in ambient air indicate that oligomers may exist in aged plumes. The viscosity estimation suggests that the majority of ambient OA in this study behaves as semisolid (60 %), liquifies at higher relative humidity (RH) (21 %), and solidifies (19 %) during noon when the RH is low and the oxidation level is high. Finally, the estimated mixing time of molecules in 200 nm OA varies dramatically from minutes at night to years in the afternoon, emphasizing the need to consider its dynamic kinetic limits when modeling OA. In general, the overall results of this study improve our understanding of the impact of aging on OA volatility and viscosity.

Abstract

Kisspeptin (KP) is a major positive regulator of the hypothalamo–pituitary–gonadal axis and affects female reproductive cyclicity in mammals. It offers an attractive alternative strategy to control reproduction in fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) protocols. We aimed to evaluate the effects of different doses of kisspeptin-10 (KP-10) on sow reproductive performance in FTAI protocols. One hundred ninety-eight weaned sows were divided into three groups at random. A FTAI–GnRH group of sows (n = 98) received 100 µg (2 mL) gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH; gonadorelin) by intramuscular injection at 96 h after weaning (t = 0 h); FTAI–KPL (KPL: low-dose KP-10, n = 50), and FTAI–KPH groups of sows (KPH: high-dose KP-10, n = 50) received 0.5 or 1 mg KP-10 (2 mL) respectively at 96 h after weaning. Sows were checked twice daily for oestrus. Ultrasonographic evaluations were performed to determine the follicular diameter and time of ovulation; blood samples were collected immediately before injection (t0 = 0 min) and at 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90 min, 24 and 48 h postinjection. Sows were inseminated at 112 and 132 h after weaning. The oestrus rates (96 vs 92%; 96 vs 88%) and weaning-to-oestrus intervals (98.9 vs 98.6 h; 98.9 vs 97.1 h) were not affected by treatment, but oestrus in the FTAI–KPL group was significantly longer than in the FTAI–GnRH group (38.7 vs 30.0 h; P

Abstract

Timed artificial insemination (TAI) is an efficient reproductive technology in batch farrowing production that aids management in pig farms. However, the effect of TAI on the reproduction performance is still controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of two TAI protocols on the reproductive performance of primiparous sows. A total of 332 weaned sows were randomly allocated into three treatments. Sows assigned to Control (n = 110) were untreated and inseminated on each day in oestrus after weaning. Sows assigned to eG-TAI (n = 112) received equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) 24 h after weaning and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (Gonadorelin: GnRH) at oestrus, and were inseminated at 8 and 32 h later if oestrus at 0800, or 16 and 40 h later if oestrus at 1600. Sows assigned to 2e-TAI (n = 110) received eCG and GnRH 24 h and 96 h after weaning, respectively, and were inseminated 16 and 40 h after GnRH administration. Sows showing oestrus at GnRH administration or 64 h after were inseminated immediately, for a total of three inseminations. Ultrasonographic evaluations were performed to determine the follicular diameter and time of ovulation. Most sows in the 2e-TAI and eG-TAI groups ovulated 0–48 h after the GnRH injection. Abstract

Background Intestinal and perianal fistulas and fissures are associated with significant morbidity and decreased quality of life in patients with Crohn’s disease (CD). We evaluated rates of fistula and fissure improvements with upadacitinib (UPA), an oral selective Janus kinase inhibitor, in patients with CD who had fistulas or fissures at baseline in phase 3 induction and maintenance trials. Methods In the U-EXCEL (NCT03345849) and U-EXCEED (NCT03345836) phase 3 induction trials, patients with moderate-to-severe CD were randomized to UPA 45 mg once daily (QD) or placebo (PBO) for 12 weeks. Patients who achieved clinical response after 12 weeks of induction were eligible for U-ENDURE (NCT03345823) and rerandomized to UPA 30 mg QD, UPA 15 mg QD, or PBO for an additional 52 weeks of maintenance treatment. Fistula activity was assessed by presence of external openings and draining upon gentle compression. Presence of perianal fissures was also assessed. The proportion of patients with external closure of fistula openings, complete resolution of draining, and ≥ 50% reduction in draining was recorded at weeks 12 and 52. Endpoints were analyzed using non-responder imputation. Results Of 1021 enrolled patients, 143 patients had fistulas (124 [86.7%] perianal; 19 [13.3%] enterocutaneous) and 54 patients had perianal fissures at baseline. The proportion of patients who achieved external closure of fistula openings was higher with UPA vs PBO at week 12 (Fig 1A) and at week 52 (Fig 2A). The proportion of patients who achieved complete resolution of draining and ≥ 50% reduction in draining was higher with UPA vs PBO at week 12 (Fig 1B and 1C) and at week 52 (Fig 2B and 2C). A higher proportion of patients achieved complete resolution of fissures with UPA vs PBO at week 12 (Fig 1D) and at week 52 (Fig 2D). At weeks 12 and 52, a higher proportion of patients with fistulas treated with UPA vs PBO achieved clinical remission and endoscopic response (Fig 1E and 2E). Rates of adverse events (AEs), serious AEs, or AEs leading to study drug discontinuation were similar in UPA groups compared with PBO during the induction and maintenance periods. Rates of abscess formation were 1.8% with UPA 45 mg and 6.8% with PBO at week 12, and 3.0% with UPA 30 mg, 6.4% with UPA 15 mg, and 2.5% with PBO at week 52. Conclusion Among patients with CD complicated with fistulas and/or fissures at baseline, UPA treatment led to higher rates of external closure of fistula openings, resolution of draining, and healing of fissures, along with clinical remission and improvements in luminal disease compared with PBO. No new safety concerns were identified.

21. Strength characteristics of brittle rocks under multi-stage intermediate principal stress loading

Abstract

A series of single-stage true triaxial compression (TTC) tests and multi-stage intermediate principal stress (σ2) loading tests were carried out on three types of brittle rock specimens in this study to examine the influence of σ2 and the validity of obtaining strength parameters by using a multi-stage loading method under true triaxial stress conditions. There exists a critical σ2 at which the rock strength attains its ultimate value under both loading conditions. Under the same σ3 level, the critical σ2 is much smaller under the multi-stage σ2 loading compared with under the single-stage TTC. The test results also show that the strength determined under multi-stage σ2 loading is much smaller than that determined under single-stage TTC. The strength difference can attain 39%. A lower strength is measured under multi-stage σ2 loading because the local fracture plane induced by true triaxial stress is parallel to the σ2, and the strength of the rock specimen containing this type of local fracture plane is not affected by σ2. On the contrary, rock damage accumulates during multiple loading and unloading cycles. The current testing results indicate that the multi-stage loading test is not suitable for determining the strength envelope of brittle rock under true triaxial conditions.

Abstract

The kilometer square array (KM2A) of the large high altitude air shower observatory (LHAASO) aims at surveying the northern γ-ray sky at energies above 10 TeV with unprecedented sensitivity. γ-ray observations have long been one of the most powerful tools for dark matter searches, as, e.g., high-energy γ rays could be produced by the decays of heavy dark matter particles. In this Letter, we present the first dark matter analysis with LHAASO-KM2A, using the first 340 days of data from 1/2-KM2A and 230 days of data from 3/4-KM2A. Several regions of interest are used to search for a signal and account for the residual cosmic-ray background after γ/hadron separation. We find no excess of dark matter signals, and thus place some of the strongest γ-ray constraints on the lifetime of heavy dark matter particles with mass between 105 and 109 GeV. Our results with LHAASO are robust, and have important implications for dark matter interpretations of the diffuse astrophysical high-energy neutrino emission.

24. Phytoglycogen-dsRNA nanoparticles demonstrate differential cytotoxicity and immunostimulatory potential in two ovarian cancer cell lines

Abstract

Background Ovarian cancer is a leading cause of cancer mortality in women, and only a small percentage of cases are caught at an early stage. Novel treatments with improved efficacy are needed to fight ovarian cancer and to overcome resistance to traditional therapies. Double-stranded (ds) RNA, including the synthetic polyinosinic cytidylic acid (poly (I:C), has shown promise as a cancer therapeutic. Two ovarian cancer cell lines were tested for their ability to produce an immune response to poly (I:C) delivered using a nanoparticle carrier, a biodegradable phytoglycogen derived from sweet corn, called nanodendrix (NDX). SKOV-3 and OVCAR-3 have been previously identified as dsRNA-resistant and dsRNA-sensitive, respectively. Results Firstly, NDX was found to effectively bind poly (I:C), at a w/w ratio of 2:1 NDX:poly (I:C), the resulting particles, poly (I:C)-NDX, were tested for biological activity through uptake and two therapeutic modes of action, cytotoxicity and stimulation of the innate immune response. Both cell lines bound poly (I:C)-NDX, as observed using immunocytochemistry. In OVCAR-3 poly (I:C)-NDX caused significant cell death, even at concentrations as low as 62.5ng/mL, measured using the cell viability indicator dye alamarBlue; no cell death was observed with poly (I:C) alone across all concentrations, up to 5µg/mL in SKOV-3 and 0.5µg/mL in OVCAR-3. In both OVCAR-3 and SKOV-3, poly (I:C)-NDX stimulated the production of an innate immune chemokine, CXCL10, at the transcript and protein levels, at significantly higher levels than poly (I:C) alone. Interestingly, in response to poly (I:C)-NDX SKOV-3 produced a more robust immune response compared and higher levels of capase-3/-7 activation compared to OVCAR-3, despite showing no significant cell death. Conclusions Poly (I:C)-NDX represents a robust and multifunctional therapy with demonstrated efficacy against a range of ovarian tumour cells, potentiating poly (I:C) and sensitizing resistant cells. Additionally, the SKOV-3 and OVCAR-3 combination represents a powerful comparative model to help unravel dsRNA-mediated immune responses in ovarian cancer cells.

Abstract

Daytime sleepiness has some association with cardiometabolic diseases and osteoporosis, but it is unknown whether their relationship is causal. This two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study aims to explore their causal relationship.We included the largest genome-wide association studies (GWASs) associated with daytime sleepiness, cardiometabolic diseases and osteoporosis. 34 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were used as the instrumental variables of daytime sleepiness.Genetic predisposition to excessive daytime sleepiness was strongly associated with increased risk of coronary artery disease (beta-estimate: 0.610, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.128 to 1.093, standard error [SE]: 0.246, p-value=0.013) and may increase the incidence of type 2 diabetes (beta-estimate: 0.614, 95% CI: 0.009 to 1.219, SE: 0.309, p-value=0.047). We found no causal influence of daytime sleepiness on heart failure, atrial fibrillation, cerebral ischemia, intracerebral hemorrhage, forearm bone mineral density (FA-BMD), femoral neck BMD (FN-BMD), and lumbar spine BMD (LS-BMD).This study suggested that excessive daytime sleepiness was causally associated with increased risk of coronary artery disease, which may benefit to prevent this disease.

Abstract

Porosity and surface area analysis play a prominent role in modern materials science. At the heart of this sits the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) theory, which has been a remarkably successful contribution to the field of materials science. The BET method was developed in the 1930s for open surfaces but is now the most widely used metric for the estimation of surface areas of micro- and mesoporous materials. Despite its widespread use, the calculation of BET surface areas causes a spread in reported areas, resulting in reproducibility problems in both academia and industry. To prove this, for this analysis, 18 already-measured raw adsorption isotherms were provided to sixty-one labs, who were asked to calculate the corresponding BET areas. This round-robin exercise resulted in a wide range of values. Here, the reproducibility of BET area determination from identical isotherms is demonstrated to be a largely ignored issue, raising critical concerns over the reliability of reported BET areas. To solve this major issue, a new computational approach to accurately and systematically determine the BET area of nanoporous materials is developed. Abstract

Kisspeptin (KP) is a major positive regulator of the hypothalamo-pituitary-gonadal axis and affects female reproductive cyclicity in mammals. It offers an attractive alternative strategy to control reproduction in fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) protocols. We aimed to evaluate the effects of different doses of kisspeptin-10 (KP-10) on sow reproductive performance in FTAI protocols. One hundred ninety-eight weaned sows were divided into three groups at random. A FTAI-GnRH group of sows (n = 98) received 100 µg (2 mL) gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH; gonadorelin) by intramuscular injection at 96 h after weaning (t = 0 h); FTAI-KPL (KPL: low-dose KP-10, n = 50), and FTAI-KPH groups of sows (KPH: high-dose KP-10, n = 50) received 0.5 or 1 mg KP-10 (2 mL) respectively at 96 h after weaning. Abstract

The poor annotation of phage virion protein (PVP) is the bottleneck of many areas of viral research, such as viral phylogenetic analysis, viral host identification and antibacterial drug design. Because of the high diversity of the PVP sequences, the PVP annotation remains a great challenging bioinformatic task. Based on deep learning, we present DeePVP that contains a main module and an extended module. The main module aims to identify the PVPs from non-PVP over a phage genome, while the extended module can further classify the predicted PVP into one of the ten major classes of PVP. Compared with the state-of-the-art tools that can distinguish PVP from non-PVP, DeePVP’s main module performs much better, with an F1-score 9.05% higher in the PVP identification task. Compared with PhANNs, a tool that can further classify the predicted PVP into a specific class, the overall accuracy of DeePVP’s extended module is approximately 3.72% higher in the PVP classification task. Two application cases on the genome of mycobacteriophage PDRPxv and Escherichia phage HP3 show that the predictions of DeePVP are much more reliable and can better reveal the compact PVP-enriched region, which may be conserved during the viral evolution process, over the phage genome.

Abstract

Background Upadacitinib is a selective Janus kinase 1 inhibitor, which is approved for treatment of several inflammatory diseases. Upadacitinib 45 mg QD dose was evaluated for induction treatment in ulcerative colitis Phase 3 studies and is currently being evaluated in Crohn’s disease Phase 3 studies. A prior clinical study demonstrated that upadacitinib 30 mg QD dose resulted in no clinically relevant effects on plasma exposures of sensitive probe substrates for cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of repeated doses of upadacitinib 45 mg on the pharmacokinetics of sensitive probe substrates of CYP enzymes in healthy adult subjects. Methods This was an open-label, multiple-dose, two-period study using the modified Cooperstown 5 + 1 cocktail drugs (midazolam [CYP3A], caffeine [CYP1A2], warfarin + vitamin K [CYP2C9], omeprazole [CYP2C19], and dextromethorphan [CYP2D6]). Twenty healthy adults received single oral doses of the cocktail drugs without upadacitinib in Period 1, followed by daily dosing of upadacitinib 45 mg for 16 days and administration of the cocktail drugs on Day 11 (for midazolam) and Day 12 (rest of substrates) in Period 2. A washout period of 6 days separated each Period. Serial blood samples and 12-hour urine samples (for dextromethorphan and dextrorphan) were collected. Pharmacokinetic parameters were estimated using noncompartmental analysis and repeated-measures analyses were performed for the natural logarithms of Cmax and AUC to assess the effect of upadacitinib on the probe substrates. Results The ratio (90% confidence interval) of area under the plasma concentration-time curve from time 0 to infinity (AUCinf) central values when the cocktail drugs were administered with upadacitinib 45 mg relative to when administered alone were 0.76 (0.69–0.83) for midazolam, 1.04 (0.95–1.13) for caffeine, 1.12 (1.05–1.20) for S-warfarin, 1.35 (1.18–1.54) for dextromethorphan, and 0.98 (0.85–1.13) for omeprazole. The 5-hydroxy-omeprazole to omeprazole plasma AUC ratio was unchanged (90% confidence interval within the no effect limits of 0.8 to 1.25). Conclusion Administration of daily upadacitinib 45 mg doses resulted in a limited effect on midazolam (CYP3A) and dextromethorphan (CYP2D6) exposures and had no relevant effects on the sensitive probe substrates for CYP1A2, CYP2C9 and CYP2C19. These limited effects are not expected to be clinically relevant or necessitate dose adjustment of CYP3A or CYP2D6 substrates. These results are consistent with a previous drug interaction evaluation for upadacitinib 30 mg and support lack of relevant effects of upadacitinib on drugs metabolized by CYP enzymes.

Abstract Using e + e − annihilation data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb −1, collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, we report the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions B Λ c + → p K L 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0\right) $$ = (1.67 ± 0.06 ± 0.04)%, B Λ c + → p K L 0 π + π − $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right) $$ = (1.69 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, and B Λ c + → p K L 0 π 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^0\right) $$ = (2.02 ± 0.13 ± 0.05)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Combining with the known branching fractions of Λ c + → p K S 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0 $$ , Λ c + → p K S 0 π + π − $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-} $$ , and Λ c + → p K S 0 π 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ , we present the first measurements of the K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ - K L 0 $$ {K}_L^0 $$ asymmetries R Λ c + K S , L 0 X = B Λ c + → K S 0 X − B Λ c + → K L 0 X B Λ c + → K S 0 X + B Λ c + → K L 0 X $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},{K}_{S,L}^0X\right)=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)-\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)+\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)} $$ in charmed baryon decays: R Λ c + p K S , L 0 = − 0.025 ± 0.031 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0\right)=-0.025\pm 0.031 $$ , R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π + π − = − 0.027 ± 0.048 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)=-0.027\pm 0.048 $$ and R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π 0 = − 0.015 ± 0.046 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^0\right)=-0.015\pm 0.046 $$ . No significant asymmetries with statistical significance are observed.

Abstract

Abstract The processes h c → γP (P = η′, η, π 0) are studied with a sample of (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decay h c → γη is observed for the first time with the significance of 9.0 σ, and the branching fraction is determined to be (3.77 ± 0.55 ± 0.13 ± 0.26) × 10 −4, while B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γη′) is measured to be (1.40 ± 0.11 ± 0.04 ± 0.10) × 10 −3, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of ψ(3686) → π 0 h c . The combination of these results allows for a precise determination of R h c = B h c → γη B h c → γ η ′ , $$ {R}_{h_c}=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma \eta \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma {\eta}^{\prime}\right)}, $$ which is calculated to be (27.0 ± 4.4 ± 1.0)%. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of η − η′ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay h c → γπ 0, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γπ 0) < 5.0 × 10 −5, at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract

Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb −1, we measure the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ at thirty-five energy points with a partial-reconstruction strategy. By fitting the dressed cross sections of e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ , evidence for ψ 4160 → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ $$ \psi (4160)\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda $$ is found for the first time with a significance of 4.4σ, including systematic uncertainties. No evidence for other possible resonances is found. In addition, the products of electronic partial width and branching fraction for all assumed resonances decaying into K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ are determined.

Abstract

Abstract With a sample of (10087 ± 44) × 106 J/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, we analyze the decays η′ → π + π − l + l − (l = e, μ) via the process J/ψ → γη′. The branching fractions are measured to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (η′ → π + π − e + e − ) = (2.45 ± 0.02(stat.) ± 0.08(syst.)) × 10 −3 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (η′ → π + π − μ + μ − ) = (2.16 ± 0.12(stat.) ± 0.06(syst.)) × 10 −5, and the ratio is B η ′ → π + π − e + e − B η ′ → π + π − μ + μ − = 113.4 ± 0.9 stat . ± 3.7 syst . $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)}=113.4\pm 0.9\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 3.7\left(\textrm{syst}.\right) $$ . In addition, by combining the η′ → π + π − e + e − and η′ → π + π − μ + μ − decays, the slope parameter of the electromagnetic transition form factor is measured to be b η′ = 1.30 ± 0.19 (GeV/c 2) −2, which is consistent with previous measurements from BESIII and theoretical predictions from the VMD model. The asymmetry in the angle between the π + π − and l + l − decay planes, which has the potential to reveal the CP-violation originating from an unconventional electric dipole transition, is also investigated. The asymmetry parameters are determined to be A CP η ′ → π + π − e + e − = − 0.21 ± 0.73 stat . ± 0.01 syst . % $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{CP}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right)=\left(-0.21\pm 0.73\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\right)\% $$ and A CP η ′ → π + π − μ + μ − = 0.62 ± 4.71 stat . ± 0.08 syst . % $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{CP}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)=\left(0.62\pm 4.71\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.08\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\right)\% $$ , implying that no evidence of CP-violation is observed at the present statistics. Finally, an axion-like particle is searched for via the decay η′ → π + π − a, a → e + e − , and upper limits of the branching fractions are presented for the mass assumptions of the axion-like particle in the range of 0 − 500 MeV/c 2.

Abstract

Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected at the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb −1, we determine the absolute branching fractions of fifteen hadronic D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ decays with a double-tag technique. In particular, we make precise measurements of the branching fractions B D s + → K + K − π + = 5.49 ± 0.04 ± 0.07 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(5.49\pm 0.04\pm 0.07\right)\% $$ , B D s + → K S 0 K + = 1.50 ± 0.01 ± 0.01 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}_S^0{K}^{+}\right)=\left(1.50\pm 0.01\pm 0.01\right)\% $$ and B D s + → K + K − π + π 0 = 5.50 ± 0.05 ± 0.11 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^0\right)=\left(5.50\pm 0.05\pm 0.11\right)\% $$ , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The CP asymmetries in these decays are also measured and all are found to be compatible with zero.

Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.686 GeV, we search for the first time for two nonleptonic hyperon decays that change strangeness by two units, Ω − → Σ0 π − and Ω − → nK − . No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on their decay branching fractions are determined to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → Σ0 π − ) < 5.4 × 10 −4 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → nK − ) < 2.4 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract

Abstract Using 24.1 fb −1 of e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the Born cross sections and effective form factors of the e + e − → Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ reaction are measured. The measurements are performed at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.510 to 4.951 GeV. No significant evidence for the decay of the charmonium(-like) states, ψ(3770), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), Y(4230), Y(4360), ψ(4415), and Y(4660), into a Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ final state is observed. Consequently, upper limits for the products of the branching fractions and the electronic partial widths at the 90% confidence level are reported for these decays.

Abstract

Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decay of ψ(3686) → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 $$ {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0 $$ + c.c. is observed for the first time. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be B ψ 3686 → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 + c . c . $$ {\mathcal{B}}_{\psi (3686)\to {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0+\textrm{c}.\textrm{c}.} $$ = (2.78 ± 0.40 ± 0.18) × 10 −6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Possible baryon excited states are searched for in this decay, but no evident intermediate state is observed with the current sample size.

Abstract

We present the first catalog of very-high-energy and ultra-high-energy gamma-ray sources detected by the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory. The catalog was compiled using 508 days of data collected by the Water Cherenkov Detector Array from 2021 March to 2022 September and 933 days of data recorded by the Kilometer Squared Array from 2020 January to 2022 September. This catalog represents the main result from the most sensitive large coverage gamma-ray survey of the sky above 1 TeV, covering decl. from −20° to 80°. In total, the catalog contains 90 sources with an extended size smaller than 2° and a significance of detection at >5 σ . Based on our source association criteria, 32 new TeV sources are proposed in this study. Among the 90 sources, 43 sources are detected with ultra-high energy ( E > 100 TeV) emission at >4 σ significance level. We provide the position, extension, and spectral characteristics of all the sources in this catalog.

At the heart of this sits the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) theory, which has been a remarkably successful contribution to the field of materials science. The BET method was developed in the 1930s for open surfaces but is now the most widely used metric for the estimation of surface areas of microand mesoporous materials. Despite its widespread use, the calculation of BET surface areas causes a spread in reported areas, resulting in reproducibility problems in both academia and industry. To prove this, for this analysis, 18 already-measured raw adsorption isotherms were provided to sixty-one labs, who were asked to calculate the corresponding BET areas. This roundrobin exercise resulted in a wide range of values. Here, the reproducibility of BET area determination from identical isotherms is demonstrated to be a largely ignored issue, raising critical concerns over the reliability of reported BET areas. To solve this major issue, a new computational approach to accurately and systematically determine the BET area of nanoporous materials is developed. Abstract

Effective crosslinking among food constituents has the potential to enhance their overall quality. Distarch phosphate (DSP), a common food additive employed as a thickening agent, bears a pre-crosslinked oligosaccharide (PCO) moiety within its molecular structure. Once this moiety is released, its double reducing end has the potential to undergo crosslinking with amino-rich macromolecules through Maillard reaction. In this study, hydrolyzed distarch phosphate (HDSP) was synthesized, and spectroscopic analysis verified the presence of PCO within HDSP. Preliminary validation experiment showed that HDSP could crosslink chitosan to form a hydrogel and significant browning was also observed during the process. Furthermore, rehydrated sea cucumber (RSC) crosslinked with HDSP exhibited a more intact appearance, higher mechanical strength, better color profile, and increased water-holding capacity. 49. UBTF haploinsufficiency associated with UBTF -related global developmental delay and distinctive facial features without neuroregression.

Abstract

Background: The Upstream Binding Transcription Factor ( UBTF ) gene encodes two nucleolar proteins, UBTF1 and UBTF2. UBTF1 regulates rRNA transcription by RNA polymerase I, while UBTF2 regulates mRNA transcription by RNA polymerase II. A recurrent de novo dominant mutation c.628G>A (p.Glu210Lys) has been identified as a gain-of-function mutation associated with childhood onset neurodegeneration with brain atrophy (CONDBA). Evidence from large-scale population databases and Ubtf +/- mouse models indicates that UBTF haploinsufficiency is not tolerated., Methods: Three unrelated patients with global developmental delay and distinctive facial features were recruited for the study. Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed to identify potential genetic abnormalities. Additionally, copy number variation analysis was conducted based on the WES data., Results: All three patients exhibited intellectual disabilities, social challenges and developmental delays in language and gross motor skills. Distinctive facial features included a wide forehead, sparse eyebrows, hypertelorism, narrow palpebral fissures, single-fold eyelids, a flat nasal bridge, anteverted nares, a long philtrum and a thin upper lip. Additionally, patient C presented with more severe language delay, recurrent hepatic dysfunction and an atrial septal defect. Patient A was found to have a nonsense variant, c.1327C>T (p.R443Ter), in the exon 13 of UBTF . Patients B and C both carried a heterozygous deletion encompassing the UBTF gene., Conclusion: In this study, we analysed the detailed phenotypes associated with UBTF haploinsufficiency, which, to our knowledge, have not been previously reported. 50. Self-Assembled Triangular Prismatic Cages with Kinetic Inertness.

Abstract

Two triangular prismatic cages were synthesized by combining a trishydrazide and two bisformyl precursors in strongly acidic water, where the dynamic nature of hydrazone was turned ON. An anionic guest was used as the template to drive the cage formation. Performing counterion exchange removed both the template and the Brønsted acid. The removal of the latter afforded the cages' kinetic inertness by turning OFF the reversibility of hydrazone. The cages can thus be used for recognizing various guests in water without observable degradation, driven by the hydrophobic effect. Upon being accommodated within the cage cavities, an anthracene derivative was protected from UV-stimulated oxidation, which would occur otherwise in the bulk solution without the protection from the host.
