Abstract

Accurate data acquisition from flexible sensors placed on deformable 3D freeform surfaces is of critical importance for many applications, such as wearable electronics, human‐machine interfaces, and soft robotics. However, the mechanical coupling between the sensor and the deformable subject surface to bending and stretching deformations can significantly reduce the accuracy of the acquired data. This study combines a polyimide (PI) micropore isolation layer (PIL) and serpentine electrodes with a flexible piezoresistive sensor to mitigate the issue of mechanical coupling. As a mechanical buffer to distribute the external pressure and reduce the strain concentration, the PIL can avoid the bending interference for bending curvature up to 256 m−1, while maintaining a high sensitivity of S > 21.5 kPa−1. The serpentine electrode design further allows the sensor to reliably acquire data in the presence of stretching up to 45% without cross‐talk. The versatility of the developed sensor is demonstrated in several human‐machine interaction scenarios, including gesture recognition and motion detection. The design strategies on materials and structures from this study can also be applied for the development of other flexible sensors with high sensitivity and low deformation interference to avoid the mechanical coupling between the sensor and the deformable surface. Abstract

Flexible three-dimensional (3D) force sensors have been extensively investigated in the field of robotics due to their ability to provide feedback information from multiple directions. However, the development of flexible 3D force sensors with high sensitivity and decoupling capabilities remains a significant challenge, hindering the ability of robots to perceive their external environment. In this letter, we present a novel flexible 3D force iontronic sensor (FTIS) that utilizes ionic materials with micro-pyramidal structures and a backpropagation (BP) neural network method based on deep learning. The FTIS exhibits outstanding sensitivity, with over 8000 $\text{N}^{-{1}}$ in the normal direction and over 4000 $\text{N}^{-{1}}$ in the shear direction, and has a rapid response time of 27-ms. Additionally, it demonstrated stable working durability, with over 8000 cycles without signal delay. To validate the utility of the sensor, we integrated it as a machine-sensing interface on a mechanical claw to measure changes in forces in the triaxial direction. Our design concept has the potential to advance the development of multidimensional force sensors in the future.

Abstract

Natural gas loss inevitably occurs during gas injection and production operation in underground gas storage. At present, the study of gas loss is only in the qualitative description stage and cannot meet the quantitative evaluation requirements for economical gas storage. Combining the theory of inventory analysis and the experimental study of the injection-production mechanism and aimed at the phenomena of microseepage, dissolution diffusion, abnormal gas leakage and macroscale gas leakage in the process of injection and production of underground natural gas storage, gas loss evaluation mathematical models are established to quantitatively evaluate the gas loss of underground natural gas storage. The results show that the gas loss in the macrodisplacement process is the main component of geological gas loss in gas storage, which decreases with increasing injection-production cycles. On this basis, a quantitative evaluation method for the natural gas loss of gas reservoir-type gas storage is established, and the accuracy and reliability of the method are verified by the gas loss calculation results of the Banzhongnanbei (BZNB) underground natural gas storage. The validation results show that the calculation error is very small, meeting the requirements of gas storage operation accuracy and providing high application value. This calculation method can effectively reduce the loss of natural gas in gas storage, provide an early warning of leakage risk, and improve the economic benefits and injection-production safety of gas storage.

Abstract

Flexible pressure sensors play an important role in flexible robotics, human-machine interaction (HMI), and human physiological information. However, most of the reported flexible pressure sensors suffer from a highly nonlinear response and a significant decrease in sensitivity at high pressures. Herein, we propose a flexible novel iontronic pressure sensor based on monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). Based on the unique structure and the excellent mechanical properties as well as the large intercalation capacitance of MoS2, the prepared sensor holds an ultra-high sensitivity (Smax = 89.75 kPa−1) and a wide sensing range (722.2 kPa). Further, the response time and relaxation time of the flexible sensor are only 3 ms, respectively, indicating that the device can respond to external pressure rapidly. In addition, it shows long-term cycling stability (over 5000 cycles with almost no degradation) at a high pressure of 138.9 kPa. Finally, it is demonstrated that the sensor can be used in physiological information monitoring and flexible robotics. Pseudocapacitive iontronic pressure sensor using MXene was proposed. ABSTRACT: Flexible pressure sensors are unprecedentedly studied on monitoring human physical activities and robotics. Simultaneously, improving the response sensitivity and sensing range of flexible pressure sensors is a great challenge, which hinders the devices’ practical application. Targeting this obstacle, we developed a Ti3C2Tx-derived iontronic pressure sensor (TIPS) by taking the advantages of the high intercalation pseudocapacitance under high pressure and rationally designed structural configuration. TIPS achieved an ultrahigh sensitivity (Smin> 200 kPa−1, Smax> 45,000 kPa−1) in a broad sensing range of over 1.4 MPa and low limit of detection of 20 Pa as well as stable long-term working durability for 10,000 cycles. The practical application of TIPS in physical activity monitoring and flexible robot manifested its versatile potential. This study provides a demonstration for exploring pseudocapacitive materials for building flexible iontronic sensors with ultrahigh sensitivity and sensing range to advance the development of high-performance wearable electronics.
