Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) can be incorporated into ruminant diets as a postbiotic product. This study aimed to explore the effects of supplementing different levels of SC in the diets of mid-fattening Angus steers under heat stress conditions. A total of twenty-seven steers were randomly allocated into 3 groups: control, 30 g SC addition and 60 g SC addition groups. After a 7-day adaptation period followed by a 120-day experimental period, including respiratory rate, rectal temperature, growth performance, apparent digestibility of nutrients, rumen fermentation parameters, urine metabolites, serum biochemistry and antioxidant were measured. The results showed that the rectal temperature and respiratory rate of cattle decreased upon the addition of SC during heat stress. Meanwhile, the growth performance of cattle was improved in the 30 g SC addition group. The serum energy metabolism related indexes, such as non-esterified fatty acids, glucose, and β-hydroxybutyric acid, were altered. Additionally, the activity of catalase was significantly enhanced with the addition of SC. Overall, the addition of SC to the diets of mid-fattening Angus steer did not negatively affect rumen fermentation and nutrient apparent digestibility. Instead, it was capable of improving physiological performance under heat stress by modifying the energy metabolism and augmenting antioxidant capacity, which ultimately led to an improvement in growth performance. In conclusion, the most suitable level of SC to be added to the diet of mid-fattening Angus steers is 30 g/steer/d.

AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of early lens extraction during pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) compared to those of PPV with subsequent cataract surgery. METHODS: This multicenter randomized controlled trial was conducted in three Chinese hospitals on patients with PDR, aged >45y, with mild cataracts. The participants were randomly assigned to the combined (PPV combined with simultaneously cataract surgery, i.e., phacovitrectomy) or subsequent (PPV with subsequent cataract surgery 6mo later) group and followed up for 12mo. The primary outcome was the change in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) from baseline to 6mo, and the secondary outcomes included complication rates and medical expenses. RESULTS: In total, 129 patients with PDR were recruited and equally randomized (66 and 63 in the combined and subsequent groups respectively). BackgroundGliomas are more malignant and invasive than meningiomas.ObjectiveTo distinguish meningiomas from low-grade/high-grade gliomas (LGGs/HGGs) using amide proton transfer imaging (APT) combined with conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to explore the application of APT in evaluating brain tumour invasiveness.Materials and MethodsThe imaging data of 50 brain tumors confirmed by pathology in patients who underwent APT scanning in our centre were retrospectively analysed. Of these tumors, 25 were meningiomas, 10 were LGGs, and 15 were HGGs. The extent of the tumour-induced range was measured on APT images, T2-weighted imaging (T2WI), and MRI enhancement; additionally, and the degree of enhancement was graded. Ratios (RAPT/T2 and RAPT/E) were obtained by dividing the range of changes observed by APT by the range of changes observed via T2WI and MR enhancement, respectively, and APTmean values were measured. To tackle the shortage of river sand resources and excessive carbon emissions in building materials, environment-friendly concrete can be fabricated by solidifying aeolian sand and natural gravel with a fly ash-based geopolymer. Aeolian sand and natural gravel are accessible building materials, but their engineering applications are largely limited by their poor properties such as high mud content, large specific surface area, and discontinuous particle size distribution. To enhance the application of this environment-friendly concrete, in this paper, 48 sets of specimens with different geopolymer dosages, curing temperatures, and curing times are studied experimentally, and quite well-strengthened geopolymer aeolian sand mortar (GAM), geopolymer aeolian sand concrete (GAC), and an appropriate dosage of the geopolymer are finally obtained. The experimental results and the failure section of the mortar specimen indicate that the fly ash geopolymer can solidify the aeolian sand and ensure the integrity and compactness of the specimen. The 28-day compressive and flexural strength of the geopolymer standard sand mortar (GSM) reached 40.5 MPa and 4.3 MPa, respectively, at a curing temperature of 60 °C when the amount of alkali activator was improved to 100%, and the 28-day compressive and flexural strength of GAM reached 33.7 MPa and 4.2 MPa, respectively, when the amount of geopolymer material was 0.75 times that of aeolian sand. A lower compressive strength of GAC was obtained following the addition of aeolian sand. The experiment results can provide a reference for aeolian sand usage and have a certain social value in environmental protection.

Abstract Objective To explore the DPP4 expression changes and functions in ovarian cancer (OV), as well as the regulation mechanism for DDP4. Methods GEPIA2, GSE18520, GSE26712 and UALCAN were used to analyze differences in DPP4 expression between OV tumors and control tissues. Serum DPP4 levels were measured by ELISA. The prognostic values of DPP4 were evaluated using a Kaplan–Meier (KM) plotter. Small interfering RNA was used for DPP4 knockdown in OVCAR-3 and SKOV-3 cells. CCK-8 and scratch healing assays were used to determine the cells’ proliferation and migration abilities. Flow cytometry (FCM) was used to detect the cell cycle and apoptosis. A dual-luciferase assay was designed to confirm the regulatory effect of miR-29a-3p on DPP4. Results The expressions of DPP4 mRNA and protein were decreased in OV tumor tissues. Serum DPP4 levels decreased in OV patients. KM plotter analysis showed correlation between high DPP4 expression and a poor prognosis in OV patients. By targeting knockdown of DPP4, we found that OVCAR-3 and SKOV-3 cells’ proliferation was inhibited, while cell’s migration ability was significantly promoted. FCM analysis showed that DPP4 knockdown induced a decrease in the S phase. Furthermore, DPP4 was shown to be downregulated by miR-29a-3p and TGFβ1 in OVCAR-3 cells, and miR-29a-3p expression was upregulated by TGFβ1. The effects of miR-29a-3p and TGFβ1 on OVCAR-3 cells’ biological behaviors were consistent with DPP4 knockdown. Conclusion DPP4 was downregulated in OV patients. DPP4 knockdown significantly inhibited OVCAR-3 and SKOV-3 cell proliferation and promoted cell migration. DDP4 can be downregulated by TGFβ1 through the upregulation of miR-29a-3p in OV cells.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease with multiple etiological factors. Immune disorder contributes to SLE development and is an important clinical manifestation of SLE patients. Immune dysfunction is characterized by abnormal of B cells, T cells, monocyte-macrophages and dendritic cells (DCs), in both quantity and quality. Adenosine is a critical factor for human immune homeostasis, which acts as an immunosuppressive signal and can prevent the hyperactivity of human immune system. Adenosine levels are significant decreased in serum from SLE patients. Adenosine level is regulated by the CD39, CD73 and adenosine deaminase (ADA). CD39/CD73/ADA catalyzed the cascade enzymatic reaction, which contained the adenosine generation and degradation. Adenosine affects the function of various immune cells via bind to the adenosine receptors, which are expressed on the cell surface. This review aims to export the changes of immune cells and adenosine signal pathway in SLE, as well as the effect of adenosine signal pathway in SLE development.
