ABSTRACT: Teaching practice holds paramount significance within the domain of teacher education and training, providing student teachers with a tangible opportunity to acquire practical knowledge and firsthand experience in the dynamics of schooling and classroom pedagogy. This study set out to investigate the perceptions of EFL student teachers regarding the school-based teaching practice course in four colleges of education and basic education in Duhok province of the Kurdistan Region-Iraq. A combined qualitative and quantitative methodological approach was used to gather the research data. A paper and online questionnaire provided quantitative data from 132 participants, complemented by conducting semi-structured interviews with 16 student teachers. The results showed that the teaching practice experience was deemed ineffective and inadequate in preparing to become qualified EFL teachers. The results further revealed that the majority of the elements involved in the topic being studied were deemed unsatisfactory and there were multiple areas for improvement in the phenomenon. The implications of these findings extend our understanding of the process and procedures of the teaching practice course in this specific context. The findings presented add to our understanding of the various aspects of the subject. The research has the potential to inform policy decisions and practical interventions, thereby positively influencing the field and leading to tangible improvements. This study holds significant importance as it addresses a critical gap in existing research, shedding light on an area that has thus far been underexplored. A significant limitation of the current study is its exclusive focus on student teachers as the primary data collection subjects. Therefore, future research should consider investigating the perspectives of other stakeholders involved in the teaching practice, including university supervisors, school principals, representatives of English departments, the course developers, and focal persons.

Lung cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world. In terms of the diagnosis of lung cancer, combination carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen 125 (CA125) detection had higher sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic odds ratios than CEA detection alone. Most individuals with elevated serum CA125 levels had lung cancer that was either in stage 3 or stage 4. Serum CA125 levels were similarly elevated in lung cancer patients who also had pleural effusions or ascites. Furthermore, there is strong evidence that human lung cancer produces CA125 in vitro, which suggests that other clinical illnesses outside of ovarian cancer could also be responsible for the rise of CA125. MUC16 (CA125) is a natural killer cell inhibitor. As a screening test for lung and ovarian cancer diagnosis and prognosis in the early stages, CA125 has been widely used as a marker in three different clinical settings. MUC16 mRNA levels in lung cancer are increased regardless of gender. As well, increased expression of mutated MUC16 enhances lung cancer cells proliferation and growth. Additionally, the CA125 serum level is thought to be a key indicator for lung cancer metastasis to the liver. Further, CA125 could be a useful biomarker in other cancer types diagnoses like ovarian, breast, and pancreatic cancers. One of the important limitations of CA125 as a first step in such a screening technique is that up to 20% of ovarian tumors lack antigen expression. Each of the 10 possible serum markers was expressed in 29–100% of ovarian tumors with minimal or no CA125 expression. Therefore, there is a controversy regarding CA125 in the diagnosis and prognosis of lung cancer and other cancer types. In this state, preclinical and clinical studies are warranted to elucidate the clinical benefit of CA125 in the diagnosis and prognosis of lung cancer.

Introduction: Increased smartphone accessibility has enhanced the speed and diversity of the dissemination of data, ideas, and thoughts. Notably, patients often turn to social media platforms to gather information on treatment options, share personal experiences, offer opinions, and choose the best health-care providers. Social media has been employed to distribute health information. Aims: This study aimed to analyze the content regarding orthodontic functional appliances posted on various social media platforms. Materials and Methods: The study analyzed content posted in August 2020 on four social media sites, namely, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and Reddit, focusing on terms related to orthodontic functional appliances. Data from the first 100 posts per keyword were collected and then recorded and coded in spreadsheets. Descriptive and statistical analyses were performed to elucidate the nature of the posted content. Results and Discussion: A total of 1204 posts were included in the study. Of these, 29.8.2% were photos and 51.8% were videos. Majority of the posts (65.3%) were about information sharing and uploaded by doctors (51.2%). The type of malocclusion was described as Class II in 18.4% of the posts but not specified in 72.8%. The overall usefulness of the posts was low. Posts of photos, posts on Instagram, and posts by doctors were found to be more significantly useful (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Patients, doctors, and academics extensively use social media platforms to disseminate orthodontic information. However, more useful posts on orthodontic functional appliances should be uploaded, including those on treatment effectiveness, patient experience, and patient–clinician relationships, which have been widely disregarded.

Objectives: To determine the efficacy of open versus closed negative pressure wound therapy for contaminated and dirty surgical wounds in terms of time duration to full wound healing. Study Design: Quasi-experimental study. Place and Duration of Study: Department of General Surgery, Combined Military Hospital, Quetta Pakistan, from Oct 2021 to Apr 2022. Methodology: A total of 96 patients with surgical wounds requiring repair were included for study. All patients underwent their respective surgery followed by grouping. Patients in Group-A received closed negative pressure wound therapy while those in Group-B received open negative pressure wound therapy. All patients were followed up till complete healing of the wound or till the occurrence of complications. Results: Our study sample had a mean age of 44.16±12.66 years, with a slight female preponderance of 51(53.1%) participants. The mean total healing time for closed negative pressure wound therapy was 17.35±6.95 days, while it was 42.00±16.21 days with open negative pressure wound therapy, (p0.05). Conclusion: Closed negative pressure wound therapy results in faster wound healing, with a similar complication rate as open negative pressure wound therapy.

AIM: To analyze the prevalence of peripapillary intra-choroidal cavitation (PICC) in eyes with gamma peripapillary atrophy (γPPA), in eyes with peripapillary staphyloma (PPS) and in those combining γPPA and PPS and to analyze border tissue discontinuity in PICC. METHODS: This prospective cross-sectional non interventional study included highly myopic eyes. Non-highly myopic eyes were used as control. Radial and linear scans centered on the optic nerve head were performed using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography. Variables were analyzed along the twelve hourly optical coherence tomography sections in both eyes of each subject. RESULTS: A total of 667 eyes of 334 subjects were included: 229 (34.3%) highly myopic eyes and 438 (65.7%) non highly myopic eyes. The mean age of the highly myopic group was 48.99±17.81y. PICC was found in a total of 40 eyes and in 13.2% (29/220) of highly myopic eyes. PICC was found in 10.4% (40/386) of eyes with γPPA, in 20.5% (40/195) of eyes with PPS and in 22.7% (40/176) of those combining γPPA and PPS. All the eyes with PICC showed the co-existence of γPPA and PPS whereas none of the eyes presenting only one of these entities exhibited PICC. A border tissue discontinuity in the γPPA area was found in all eyes with PICC. CONCLUSION: We confirm the presence of a border tissue discontinuity in the γPPA area of all eyes with PICC. These findings suggest the involvement of mechanical factors in the pathogenesis of PICC which may contribute to PICC-related visual field defects.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the content of YouTube videos on the management of orthodontic emergencies during the COVID-19 pandemic. MATERIALS AND METHODS: YouTube was systematically searched using the keywords “orthodontic emergency,” “orthodontic homecare,” “braces emergency,” and “braces homecare.” The first 100 videos for each keyword were assessed. The upload source, number of views, likes and dislikes, duration, and global quality score were extracted. Home and clinical advice reliability was evaluated using the reliability score (DISCERN) according to the COVID-19 orthodontic emergencies protocol published by the British Orthodontic Society. RESULTS: The majority of the videos were found to be poor quality. Home care advice showed higher reliability than clinical advice. Orthodontic emergency videos uploaded by healthcare professionals had higher reliability. CONCLUSION: Many types of orthodontic emergencies have received little attention on YouTube, and more useful and reliable educational videos should be uploaded in the event of future pandemics.

Objectives: Infective endocarditis of the aortic valve complicated by annular abscess is a challenging problem and often requires patch reconstruction after surgical debridement of the abscess cavity. Filling the remaining cavity with antibiotics is advocated to prevent recurrent endocarditis. This study aimed at evaluating the role of local antibiotics in patients with aortic valve infective endocarditis complicated by annular abscess. Methods: Between January 2012 and December 2021, all consecutive patients with aortic valve infective endocarditis complicated by annular abscess undergoing cardiac surgery and annular patch reconstruction were included. Patients receiving local antibiotics were compared with patients without local antibiotics. The primary endpoints were the incidence of recurrent endocarditis, re-operation, and mortality during two-year follow-up. Results: A total of 41 patients with aortic valve infective endocarditis complicated by annular abscess underwent surgical patch reconstruction after radical debridement. In total, 20 patients received local antibiotics in the abscess cavity and 21 patients were treated without local antibiotics. The most common causative microorganisms were the staphylococci species and the most common location of the abscess was the non-coronary annulus. During two-year follow-up, one patient in each group developed recurrent endocarditis (p > 0.99) and both patients were reoperated (p > 0.99). Two-year mortality was 30% in the local antibiotic group and 24% in the control group (p = 0.65). Conclusions: Radical debridement and patch reconstruction of the aortic annulus in patients with aortic valve infective endocarditis complicated by annular abscess is an effective surgical strategy. Filling of the remaining abscess cavity with antibiotic seems not to affect the rate of recurrent endocarditis, reoperation, and mortality during two-year follow-up.

Objective: To compare our experience with the LigaSure small jaw device and Harmonic scalpel in total thyroidectomy regarding operative time and major complications associated with surgery. Study Design: Prospective comparative study. Place and Study Duration: General Surgery Department, Pak Emirates Military Hospital, Rawalpindi and Combined Military Hospital, Kohat Pakistan, from Oct 2017 to Apr 2020. Methodology: This study included 150 patients diagnosed with simple/toxic multinodular goitre, thyroid carcinoma, and diffuse thyroid enlargement. Eighty-one patients were randomly assigned to the LigaSure Group and 69 to the Harmonic Group who underwent total thyroidectomy. Mean operative time and major complications like blood loss, hematoma, hypocalcemia, recurrent laryngeal injury, and surgical site infection were compared. This article focuses on the everyday responses of the local creatives in dealing with the problematic single narrative of creative cities. Aiming to understand the everyday creative and media practices of individuals in the creative collectives that are situated in emerging creative cities in Southeast Asia, the research specifically addresses key contemporary debates within the field of urban media and communication studies. The article gives priority to the voices of the city dwellers from a bottom-up approach, looking at the material and embodied practices in their everyday life. Empirically, this article seeks the alternative voices raised by the members of selected creative collectives - four collectives in Bandung, Indonesia, and four others in George Town, Malaysia - in articulating the meaning of creativity, the media practices involved within, and the organic ways of organizing urban collectives. Drawing insights from the notion of articulation and media practice, and by employing both ethnographic and visual methodology approaches, in particular the use of the photo-documentation method, there are three key thematic findings elaborated here. These themes are (1) social settings in media-related practices, (2) material objects and sensitive affection, and (3) the labor of love. The ways in which these are discussed, using a combination of ethnographic vignettes and photo collages, foreground the importance of cultural identity articulation practiced by the creative collectives in both cities. Thus, the interlinkage between mediated experiences, spatial practices, and visual contexts is also a key significant aspect in the analysis of these bottom-up, organic urban creativities.

BackgroundFrailty and sarcopenia are common in older people and are associated with adverse outcomes including increased mortality and morbidity. It is unclear whether screening for frailty and sarcopenia would identify specific populations most at risk of poor outcomes during unplanned hospital admissions, which screening tools should be used and what the trajectory of both conditions are over the course of an admission. The TYSON study is an observational cohort study aiming to determine the prevalence, trajectory and outcomes associated with frailty and sarcopenia in different patient cohorts. This protocol tests the feasibility and acceptability of TYSON processes.ObjectivesTo determine in acutely admitted medical patients who are older adults: Primary: The feasibility and acceptability of frailty and sarcopenia assessments; Secondary: (1) Differences in community and hospital frailty assessments, as assessed by the medical team, the patient and elderly care physicians, (2) The dynamic changes in frailty and sarcopenia during a hospital admission, and patient outcomes; Exploratory: Inflammatory and metabolic mediators associated with frailty and sarcopenia.MethodsA single centre, prospective observational study including patients aged ≥ 65 years admitted to an acute medical unit. Frailty assessments include the Rockwood clinical frailty and e-frailty index. Sarcopenia assessments include the Bilateral Anterior Thigh Thickness (BATT) measurement. Each participant will be asked to complete 5 visits, at day 0, day 3, day 7, month 3 and month 6. Blood samples will be collected to explore inflammatory and metabolic markers associated with frailty and sarcopenia. The study and protocol have been ethically approved by the Health Research Authority (REC 20/WA/0263).DiscussionThe study will determine the feasibility and acceptability of frailty and sarcopenia assessments in an acute hospital setting, and inform on the prevalence, trajectory and associated outcomes of frailty and sarcopenia in this group of patients. An inflammatory and metabolic profile will be explored in frailty and sarcopenia.

هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تقييم ومقارنة الأداء المالي لعينة من البنوك الإسلامية والتجارية العاملة بإقليم كورد ستنان العراق ذلك خلال الفترة الممتدة 2011-2020، وتم الاستناد على العديد من النسب المالية المتمثلة بـ (مؤشرات الربحية، السيولة، النشاط، مؤشر كفاية رأس المال ومؤشر نسبة الديون)، ولأجل الوصول الى اهداف الدراسة تم استخدام العديد من المؤشرات الاحصائية، ولغرض معرفة مدى الاختلاف في الأداء بين من البنوك تم استخدام اختبار t لدراسة الفروق بين متوسطات نسب الأداء لكل من البنوك التجارية والإسلامية وقد توصلت الدراسة الى عدة استنتاجات من اهمها: تفوق البنوك الاسلامية على البنوك التجارية من حيث مؤشر الربحية، في حين أظهرت مؤشرات السيولة أن البنوك التجارية أكثر كفاءة من البنوك الإسلامية. كما توصلت الدراسة الإحصائية إلى أن هناك اختلافات جوهرية ذات دلالة إحصائية بين أداء للبنوك الإسلامية والبنوك التجارية من حيث بعض المؤشرات الفرعية منها: مؤشر توظيف الودائع والرافعة المالية ونسبة النقد ومؤشر راس المال العامل.

A considerable number of infective endocarditis (IE) patients require cardiac surgery with an increased risk for postoperative sepsis. Intraoperative hemoadsorption may diminish the risk of postoperative hyperinflammation with potential economic implications for intensive care unit (ICU) occupation. The present study aimed to theoretically investigate the budget impact of a reduced length of ICU stay in IE patients treated with intraoperative hemoadsorption in the German healthcare system. Data on ICU occupation were extrapolated from a retrospective study on IE patients treated with hemoadsorption. An Excel-based budget impact model was developed to simulate the patient course over the ICU stay. A base-case scenario without therapy reimbursement and a scenario with full therapy reimbursement were explored. The annual eligible German IE patient population was derived from official German Diagnostic-Related Group (DRG) volume data. One-way deterministic sensitivity analysis and multivariate analysis were performed to evaluate the uncertainty over the model results. The use of intraoperative hemoadsorption resulted in EUR 2298 being saved per patient in the base-case scenario without therapy reimbursement. The savings increased to EUR 3804 per patient in the case of full device-specific reimbursement. Deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness of savings, with a probability of savings of 87% and 99% in the base-case and full reimbursement scenario, respectively. Intraoperative hemoadsorption in IE patients might have relevant economic benefits related to reduced ICU stays, resulting in improved resource use. Further evaluations in larger prospective cohorts are warranted.

This research aims to investigate the relationship between orthodontic treatment (OT) and altered passive eruption (APE). Materials and Methods: A case–control study was carried out among the dentistry students at Jazan University. A total of 21 students were recruited for the case group and 20 others for the control group. Variables were measured on the maxillary incisor teeth. They included an image analysis of the teeth width-to-height (W/H) ratio, a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) analysis of buccal bone thickness (BCT), and the distance from the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) to the bone crest (BC) (CEJ–BC). In addition, a systematic review was performed following the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Prominent literature databases, including Medline/PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Scopus, Saudi Digital Library, and Google Scholar, were searched for articles published before November 2022 on two main concepts (APE and orthodontics). Quality of evidence was assessed using the Newcastle–Ottawa scale (NOS), and the certainty of evidence was assessed using the grading of recommendations assessment development and evaluation (GRADE) approach. Results: A total of 164 teeth were evaluated. No statistical differences were observed in the W/H ratio and BCT between the two groups. A significant increase in the CEJ–BC distance in the right and left maxillary lateral incisors was observed for people who had undergone OT (p ≤ 0.002 and 0.001, respectively). In the systematic review, two articles were included for qualitative synthesis. One of the included studies showed an increase in the post-orthodontics clinical crown length of the maxillary anterior teeth. Another study reported no difference in the prevalence of APE between orthodontically treated and untreated people. Conclusion: This research concludes that OT might not be an etiological factor for APE. However, more clinical and radiological studies must be conducted to arrive at decisive conclusions.

This study compared tooth color and enamel and dentinal thickness between orthodontically treated and untreated individuals. (1) Methods: A matched case–control study was conducted. The sample included 26 patients who had received orthodontic treatment and 31 matched controls. The color assessment was performed subjectively using the VITA 3D-Master (VM) shade guide and objectively using the VITA Easyshade (VE) spectrophotometer. Differences in L*, a*, and b* (lightness, red/green, and blue/yellow) were calculated. The color change was evaluated using ΔE*ab and the whiteness index (WID). Tooth structure thickness (labiolingual, labial enamel, and labial dentin) was evaluated using cone-beam computerized tomography. The correlations between overall tooth color and tooth structure thickness were evaluated. (2) Results: A total of 228 teeth were evaluated. Color assessment using VM showed significant differences between orthodontically treated and untreated teeth (p < 0.001), while VE revealed no significant differences. Both groups showed no difference in tooth enamel and dentinal thickness. Significant differences in tooth color (p < 0.05) were observed between genders. Both VM and VE showed weak to moderate correlations with tooth color and enamel and dentinal thickness (p < 0.05). (3) Conclusions: Orthodontic treatment may demonstrate visually perceptible but acceptable and clinically undetectable tooth color alteration.

Background: This study aimed to ascertain the prevalence of dental anomalies and their ability to estimate sex status. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional radiographic study was based on the evaluation of dental anomalies of Saudi children aged between 5 and 17 years. A total of 1940 orthopantomograms (OPG) were screened, of which 1442 were included. All the OPGs were digitally evaluated with ImageJ software. The demographic variables and dental anomaly findings were subjected to descriptive and comparative statistical analysis. Discriminant function analysis was conducted for sex estimation. p value < 0.05 was considered as significant. Results: The mean age of the children in this study was 11.35 ± 0.28 years. At least one dental anomaly was detected in 161 children (11.17%), including 71 males and 90 females. Only 13 children (8.07%) presented with more than one anomaly. The most common dental anomaly detected was root dilaceration (47.83%) followed by hypodontia (31.68%). The least common dental anomaly was infraocclusion (1.86%). The sex prediction accuracy using discriminant function analysis was 62.9% (p < 0.01). Conclusion: The prevalence of dental anomalies was 11.17% with root dilaceration and hypodontia being the most common. The role of dental anomalies in sex estimation was found to be ineffective.

Background: Mitral valve repair is preferred in patients undergoing surgical treatment for infective endocarditis (IE) of the native mitral valve, however, radical resection of infected tissue and patch-plasty might potentially lead to low or non-durable repair. We aimed to compare a limited-resection and non-patch technique with the classic radical-resection technique. Methods: Eligible candidates were patients with definitive IE of the native mitral valve undergoing surgery between January 2013 and December 2018. Patients were classified according to the surgical strategy into two groups: limited- versus radical-resection strategy. Propensity score matching was used. Endpoints were repair rate, all-cause mortality (30-day and 2-year), re-endocarditis and reoperation at q-year follow-up. Results: After propensity score matching, 90 patients were included. Follow-up was 100% complete. Mitral valve repair rate was 84% in the limited-resection versus 18% in the radical-resection strategy, p < 0.001. The 30-day and 2-year mortality were 20% versus 13% (p = 0.396) and 33% versus 27% (p = 0.490) in the limited-resection versus radical-resection strategy, respectively. The incidence of re-endocarditis during the 2-year follow-up was 4% in the limited-resection strategy versus 9% in the radical-resection strategy, p = 0.677. Three patients in the limited-resection strategy underwent reoperation of the mitral valve, while there were none in the radical-resection strategy (p = 0.242). Conclusions: Although mortality in patients with IE of the native mitral valve remains high, the limited-resection and non-patch surgical strategy is associated with a significantly higher repair rates with comparable 30-day and mid-term mortality, risk of re-endocarditis and re-operation compared to the radical-resection strategy.

BackgroundPostoperative sepsis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with infective endocarditis undergoing surgical therapy. Blood purification using hemoadsorption therapy shows promising results in the treatment of sepsis. In this study, the clinical effects of intraoperative hemoadsorption in high-risk patients with infective endocarditis were evaluated.MethodsEligible candidates were high-risk patients with infective endocarditis undergoing cardiac surgery between January 2014 and December 2019. Patients with intraoperative hemoadsorption (hemoadsorption) were compared to patients without hemoadsorption (control). The endpoints were the incidence of postoperative sepsis, sepsis-associated death and in-hospital mortality. Additionally, postoperative vasopressor need, systemic vascular resistance indices and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores were compared.ResultsAfter propensity score matching, 70 high-risk patients were included. Postoperative sepsis occurred in 14 patients in the hemoadsorption group and in 16 patients in the control group, p = 0.629. Four patients died due to postoperative sepsis in the hemoadsorption group, while 11 postoperative septic patients died in the control group, p = 0.041. In-hospital mortality was 34% in the hemoadsorption group versus 43% in the control group, p = 0.461. On ICU-admission and the first postoperative day, the cumulative vasopressor need was 0.17 versus 0.25 μg/kgBW/min, p = 0.123 and 0.06 versus 0.11 μg/kgBW/min, p = 0.037, and the systemic vascular resistance index was 1448 versus 941 dyn·s·cm-5, p = 0.013 and 1156 versus 858 dyn·s·cm-5, p = 0.110 in the hemoadsorption versus control group, respectively. Postoperative course of SOFA score normalized significantly (p = 0.01) faster in the hemoadsorption group.ConclusionsIn high-risk cardiac surgical patients with infective endocarditis, intraoperative hemoadsorption significantly reduced sepsis-associated mortality. Furthermore, intraoperative hemoadsorption resulted in significant faster recovery of hemodynamics and organ function. Intraoperative hemoadsorption seems to attenuate the severity of postoperative sepsis.

Abstract Introduction To assess if in adults with COVID‐19, whether those with diabetes and complications (DM+C) present with a more severe clinical profile and if that relates to increased mortality, compared to those with diabetes with no complications (DM‐NC) and those without diabetes. Methods Service‐level data was used from 996 adults with laboratory confirmed COVID‐19 who presented to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, UK, from March to June 2020. All individuals were categorized into DM+C, DM‐NC, and non‐diabetes groups. Physiological and laboratory measurements in the first 5 days after admission were collated and compared among groups. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to evaluate associations between diabetes status and the risk of mortality. Results Among the 996 individuals, 104 (10.4%) were DM+C, 295 (29.6%) DM‐NC and 597 (59.9%) non‐diabetes. There were 309 (31.0%) in‐hospital deaths documented, 40 (4.0% of total cohort) were DM+C, 99 (9.9%) DM‐NC and 170 (17.0%) non‐diabetes. Individuals with DM+C were more likely to present with high anion gap/metabolic acidosis, features of renal impairment, and low albumin/lymphocyte count than those with DM‐NC or those without diabetes. There was no significant difference in mortality rates among the groups: compared to individuals without diabetes, the adjusted HRs were 1.39 (95% CI 0.95–2.03, p = 0.093) and 1.18 (95% CI 0.90–1.54, p = 0.226) in DM+C and DM‐C, respectively. Conclusions Those with COVID‐19 and DM+C presented with a more severe clinical and biochemical profile, but this did not associate with increased mortality in this study.

Gliomas are tumors of the central nervous system, which usually start within the glial cells of the brain or the spinal cord. These are extremely migratory and diffusive tumors, which quickly expand to the surrounding regions in the brain. There are different grades of gliomas, hinting about their growth patterns and aggressiveness and potential response to the treatment. As part of routine clinical procedure for gliomas, both radiology images (rad), such as multiparametric MR images, and digital pathology images (path) from tissue samples are acquired. Each of these data streams are used separately for prediction of the survival outcome of gliomas, however, these images provide complimentary information, which can be used in an integrated way for better prediction. There is a need to develop an image-based method that can utilise the information extracted from these imaging sequences in a synergistic way to predict patients’ outcome and to potentially assist in building comprehensive and patient-centric treatment plans. The objective of this study is to improve survival prediction outcomes of gliomas by integrating radiology and pathology imaging. Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), rad images, and path images of glioma patients were acquired from The Cancer Imaging Archive. Quantitative imaging features were extracted from tumor regions in rad and path images. The features were given as input to an ensemble regression machine learning pipeline, including support vector regression, AdaBoost, gradient boost, and random forest. The performance of the model was evaluated in several configurations, including leave-one-out, five-fold cross-validation, and split-train-test. Moreover, the quantitative performance evaluations were conducted separately in the complete cohort (n = 171), high-grade gliomas (HGGs), n = 75, and low-grade gliomas (LGGs), n = 96. The combined rad and path features outperformed individual feature types in all the configurations and datasets. In leave-one-out configuration, the model comprising both rad and path features was successfully validated on the complete dataset comprising HGFs and LGGs (R=0.84 p=2.2×10−16). The Kaplan–Meier curves generated on the predictions of the proposed model yielded a hazard ratio of 3.314 [95%CI:1.718−6.394], log−rank(P)=2×10−4 on combined rad and path features. Conclusion: The proposed approach emphasizes radiology experts and pathology experts’ clinical workflows by creating prognosticators upon ‘rad’ radiology images and digital pathology ‘path’ images independently, as well as combining the power of both, also through delivering integrated analysis, that can contribute to a collaborative attempt between different departments for administration of patients with gliomas.

The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the quality and educational information provided on YouTubeTM about stainless steel crowns (SSC). Videos were searched for on YouTube TM using keywords related to stainless steel crowns in pediatric dentistry in the Google Trends application. A total of 52 videos were available. After exclusion criteria application, 22 videos were selected for the study for analysis. To classify the video content as high or low quality, a scoring system formed of seven parameters was used. For a global evaluation of the video quality, the video information and quality index were applied. Data obtained were analyzed statistically. Only a few videos explained the importance of SSCs. Most of the videos uploaded with a high number of likes were of low quality. Very few videos were of high quality. The content quality and educational quality of videos is poor and incomplete. None of the videos explained the need for the SSC and its benefits in pediatric dentistry.

This study aims to investigate the content and usefulness of YouTube videos on** thumb-sucking habits. Methods: YouTube was systematically searched for all relevant videos on thumb sucking using primary keywords, such as thumb, finger, and digit sucking. Video information was assessed, such as the type of video, number of likes or dislikes, number of views, and duration of upload. The usefulness of videos was analyzed, and information about treatment modalities was evaluated. Results: A total of 331 YouTube videos (314 educational offerings and 17 testimonials) were included in the analysis. Individual users uploaded (36.6%), followed by healthcare professionals (30.5%). Only 4.83% of the videos were classified as having “very useful” general information content, whereas 51.1% were rated as “slightly useful.” There was no significant correlation between the usefulness score and the interaction rate, video length, or viewing rate. The videos advised a psychosocial approach and mechanical or reminder therapy in 32.33% and 25.07% of videos, respectively. Preventive methods accounted for 7.26%, and chemical treatments were discussed in 5.44% of the videos. Conclusion: Information on YouTube about thumb-sucking habits was unsatisfactory and should be improved by oral healthcare professionals and organizations.

This study aimed to identify the location of root resorption in relation to an impacted maxillary canine and grade its severity using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in the Saudi Arabian population. Materials and Methods: CBCT scans of 169 patients with maxillary canine impaction were evaluated. The location and the severity of root resorption of the affected tooth in relation to the impacted maxillary canine were recorded for each patient. Results: a total 204 impacted maxillary canines caused root resorption in 218 adjacent teeth. Maximum root resorption was present in 63.3% of the apical one-third of the root and 37.6% of the palatal surfaces. There was mild root resorption in 55%, moderate in 10% and severe in 35%. There was no statistically significant difference between the gender, age, type of impaction, side of impaction, and the number, location, or degree of root resorption. Multiple logistic regression models showed significant association (p = 0.024) between gender, type of impaction, and root resorption. A significant correlation was found between the level and the surface of the root resorption (p = 0.018). Conclusion: In the Saudi population, apical one-third root levels and palatal surfaces were primarily involved in root resorption caused by impacted canines. The females with bilateral canine impaction were more likely affected by root resorption.

The linear economy follows the "take-make-dispose" model and generates huge amounts of waste without consideration for recycling or reuse. This model which deals with raw materials puts pressure on natural resources and creates a serious environmental impact. In a circular economy, the "reduce-reuse-recycle" model is applied to recycle waste into resources and reduce the impact on the environment and society. This work aims to highlight the significance of implementing a circular economy approach in the construction sector by merging two different production lines, notably mining activity and agri-food industry. The investigation presents sustainable management of coal mine waste (CMW) and olive pomace (OP) in the production of eco-friendly fired materials and introduces an innovative approach for manufacturing lightweight fired bricks. Microstructural, physical, mechanical, and thermal properties were determined to evaluate the technological quality of fired materials at 900 °C. As a pore-forming agent, adding 10 wt% OP yielded specimens with a bulk density of 1552 kg/m3, water absorption of 19.80%, apparent porosity of 29.61%, loss on ignition of 26.98%, and compressive strength of 7.08 MPa, satisfying standards for clay masonry units. Simultaneously, it enhances the thermal insulation by reducing thermal conductivity by 18% compared to the control sample with CMW. In this regard, the transition to a greener construction sector necessitates the immediate implementation of a circular economy approach to developing eco-friendly building materials by recovering large amounts of industrial waste, limiting the overuse of natural resources (e.g., clays), and improving the engineering properties of the final product., (© 2024.
