Traditional microwave heating faces challenges such as low efficiency and uneven heating, hindering its industrial application. Sweep frequency microwave heating is an effective way to improve uniformity. Larger cavity sizes result in better heating uniformity due to the generation of more resonant modes. However, in industrial applications, large cavities occupy significant space, making them less flexible and limiting their usability. This paper introduces a method to enhance sweep frequency microwave heating uniformity by adding a dielectric substance to cavity walls. First, the impact of increasing cavity size on the uniformity of sweep frequency microwave heating was studied, with the theoretical analysis showing that filling the cavity with dielectric materials can be equivalent to enlarging the cavity size. Subsequently, a multiphysics simulation model for sweep frequency microwave heating was established to analyze the effects of dielectric substance thickness and permittivity on heating uniformity. A high-efficiency, high-uniformity microwave multimode cavity was designed, and the accuracy of the simulation model was validated through experiments. Finally, the effects of sweep frequency range and load variations on the heating performance were analyzed. This paper proposes a high-sensitivity microstrip differential sensor for measuring the complex permittivity of liquids. The prototype of the differential sensor was formed by cascading two LC resonators on a microstrip transmission line based on stepped impedance. A strong electric field was found to be distributed in the circular patch of the LC resonator; therefore, a cylindrical micropore was set in the center of the circular LC resonator to measure the dielectric sample, which maximized the disturbance of the dielectric sample on the sensor. By optimizing the size of the circular LC resonator, a high-sensitivity sensor circuit was designed and manufactured. The complex permittivity of the test sample was calculated by measuring the transmission coefficient of different molar concentrations of ethanol–water solutions. The experimental results show that the designed differential sensor can accurately measure the complex permittivity of liquid materials with an average sensitivity of 0.76%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Present radio frequency (RF) rectifiers usually suffer from poor power conversion efficiency (PCE) at low-resistance loads, and the currently proposed DC-DC converter cannot solve this problem well. Aiming at this above problem, we propose a novel DC-DC converter for rectifiers, which consists of a Boost–Buck circuit and a Buck circuit cascaded together to maintain high PCE at both high and low load resistance; the converter can also operate over a wide range of input powers. The proposed converter, along with a 2.45 GHz rectifier, was fabricated to verify its performance. With the converter, the load range of the rectifier when the overall PCE is over 50% was extended from 250 Ω–1250 Ω to 5 Ω–3000 Ω. The highest overall PCE reached up to 61% and the overall PCE at a small load of 5 Ω increased from 1.1% to 54%. The proposed converter can be used in wireless power transmission (WPT). Microwave radiation has become an effective catalytic combustion method, especially in the degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as toluene using catalysts like MnO2. In this study, a spine waveguide microwave reactor was designed to investigate the influence of different microwave processing conditions on the degradation of toluene catalyzed by MnO2. An experimental system for microwave-assisted catalytic degradation of toluene was established to explore the relationship between microwave power, catalyst conductivity, and toluene degradation rate. The results showed that the efficiency of MnO2 catalyzing toluene degradation had a nonlinear relationship with microwave power, first increasing to a peak and then decreasing. Additionally, the experiment found that the degradation rate of toluene was positively correlated with the conductivity of MnO2. Subsequent characterization analyses using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) further verified the changes in the microstructure and properties of MnO2 under microwave heating. The characterization results showed that with the increase in microwave power, the relative content of Mn3+ on the surface of MnO2 increased, and the relative content of adsorbed oxygen also increased accordingly. At a microwave power of 100 W, the treated MnO2 displayed the optimal ratio of manganese oxidation state and oxide, both close to 1:1, which was more conducive to the degradation of toluene. Based on these findings, this study hypothesized that the microwave-enhanced catalytic degradation of toluene by MnO2 may be attributed to changes in the surface electron transfer kinetics of MnO2, providing new insights into the field of microwave-enhanced catalysis. Microwave plasma jets have garnered significant attention due to their unique advantages and wide applications in numerous fields. However, the frequent collisions between electrons and neutral particles at atmospheric pressure make it challenging to generate a room-temperature plasma jet and maintain a high energy efficiency at the same time. This paper introduces a new microwave plasma jet based on a rectangular waveguide, which utilizes the surface wave propagating along the plasma jet to sustain the gas discharge. It features a simple structure, low power consumption, high energy efficiency, and strong controllability without the need for any external tuning measures. The minimum power required to ignite and stably maintain the plasma jet at atmospheric pressure is as low as 25 W and the measured lowest gas temperature at the plasma jet tail is approximately 295 K. Meanwhile, experiments show the microwave energy efficiency can be higher than 90% in a large range of input powers and gas inflow rates, while the gas temperature is maintained close to room temperature. These characteristics of our proposed surface wave plasma jet demonstrate tremendous potential in fields such as hemostasis, sterilization, wastewater treatment, semiconductor cleaning, and material processing. This paper proposed a method based on transformation optics, implicit function, and level set methods to solve the challenge of multi-physics simulation of a microwave heating cavity with two different motion modes. A 3D computation model with a rotating turntable, a lifting support rod, and a sample is proposed as a detailed demonstration. Based on the theory of transformation optics, the rotating turntable is surrounded by two circles with a time-varying, inhomogeneous and anisotropy medium, and the electric field in the moving region is rotated by controlling the two mediums. The implicit function and level set methods compute the lifting motion by setting the properties of the lifting region as a function of space and time. The correctness of the proposed method is verified by comparing the proposed method's results with the discrete position's results, and then its accuracy is further verified by experiment. Subsequently, compared with the implicit function and level set methods only, the proposed method is more accurate. Finally, the effects of lifting motion, rotating motion and lifting motion (i.e., spiral motion) on microwave heating uniformity and heating efficiency were analyzed, respectively. Cylindrical loads are commonly found in microwave heating. However, cylindrical loads tend to have a thermal focus, leading to uneven microwave heating. In this paper, a novel microwave heating method was proposed by employing resonant rings to mitigate the thermal focus of cylindrical loads. Firstly, a multiphysics simulation model for microwave heating of a cylindrical tube is established, and the influence of the resonant ring around the cylindrical tube on the temperature distribution of load was analyzed. Subsequently, microwave heating experiments of agar gels with and without resonant rings were carried out. In agreement with the simulation results, the use of resonant rings reduces the coefficient of temperature variation (COV) from 1.064 to 0.793.
