Background: Considerable morbidity and death are associated with acute kidney damage (AKI) following total aortic arch replacement (TAAR). The relationship between AKI following TAAR and serum magnesium levels remains unknown. The intention of this research was to access the predictive value of serum magnesium levels on admission to the Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) for AKI in patients receiving TAAR. Methods: From May 2018 to January 2020, a prospective, observational study was performed in the Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital CSICU. Patients accepting TAAR admitted to the CSICU were studied. The Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) definition of serum creatinine was used to define AKI, and KDIGO stages two or three were used to characterize severe AKI. Multivariable logistic regression and area under the curve receiver-operator characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) analysis were conducted to assess the predictive capability of the serum magnesium for AKI detection. Finally, the prediction model for AKI was established and internally validated. Results: Of the 396 enrolled patients, AKI occurred in 315 (79.5%) patients, including 154 (38.8%) patients with severe AKI. Serum magnesium levels were independently related to the postoperative AKI and severe AKI (both, P < 0.001), and AUC-ROCs for predicting AKI and severe AKI were 0.707 and 0.695, respectively. Across increasing quartiles of serum magnesium, the multivariable-adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) of postoperative AKI were 1.00 (reference), 1.04 (0.50-2.82), 1.20 (0.56-2.56), and 6.19 (2.02-23.91) (P for Trend < 0.001). When serum magnesium was included to a baseline model with established risk factors, AUC-ROC (0.833 vs 0.808, P = 0.050), reclassification (P < 0.001), and discrimination (P = 0.002) were further improved. Conclusions: Serum magnesium levels on admission are an independent predictor of AKI. In TAAR patients, elevated serum magnesium levels were linked to an increased risk of AKI. In addition, the established risk factor model for AKI can be considerably improved by the addition of serum magnesium in TAAR patients hospitalized in the CSICU.

The northern South China Sea continental margin is the key or critical segment of the Ocean-Continent Connection Zone (OCCZ) of the Great South China Block, the junction between the Tethyan and the (Paleo-) Pacific dynamic systems, and the interaction area between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. However, due to the low-degree geophysical exploration in the past, the regional tectonic background, processes and mechanism of the transition between the Tethyan and the Pacific tectonic domains are unclear. Based on the latest large number of seismic profiles, we focus on the Cenozoic basin structure in the continental margin of the northern South China Sea and try to reveal the Mesozoic basement structures of the northern South China Sea continental margin, with the aim of exploring the pre-Cenozoic tectonic evolution and the Cenozoic opening, spreading, ridge fossil and closure of the South China Sea oceanic basin, so as to serve the accurate oil and gas exploration in this area at the same time. The seismic interpretation of the Pearl River Mouth Basin and the field structural investigation of the South China continental margin show that the OCCZ of the South China Block has experienced three processes: Mesozoic Indosinian collisional orogeny, Early Yanshanian accretionary orogeny and Late Yanshanian transpressive orogeny. During the Cenozoic era, it experienced the dispersive extension into basins under the control of NW-SE-directed normal extension in the early stage, the dextral pull-apart into basins under the control of NE-NNE-trending strike-slip faults in the middle stage, and the sinistral pull-apart into basins under the control of NW-WNW strike-slip faults in the late stage. In general, the transition process from the Tethyan to the Pacific tectonic systems can be subdivided into four stages: the transition from the Paleo-Tethyan to the Neo-Tethyan tectonic systems, the transition from the Neo-Tethyan to the Paleo-Pacific tectonic systems, the transition from the Neo-Tethyan to the Pacific tectonic systems, and the transition from the Paleo-Pacific to the Pacific tectonic systems. The tectonic transition of the East Asian OCCZ reflects the long-term mechanism of the Earth plate dynamic system driving the plate superconvergence in East Asia, in particular of the importance of the deep or submarine “Triple Poles”, the Southeast Asian U-shape subduction system, the Pacific LLSVP and the African LLSVP. More importantly, the Southeast Asian U-shape subduction system is also one of the important dynamic engines of the Earth plate motion.

During the formation and evolution of the South China Sea, a series of multiscale submarine geomorphologies have been produced in the continental margin. The obvious submarine canyons and channels are widely distributed in the continental shelf and slope of the South China Sea. In the Taixinan Basin, several submarine canyons and channels termed as the Taixinan canyon‐channel system (TCCS) are distributed between the active and passive continental margins. Based on acquired ship‐borne multi‐beam bathymetry data in this study and the global GEBCO 2023 bathymetric dataset, we identify and define nine submarine canyons and seven submarine channels in the Taixinan Basin. The TCCS consists of the Dongsha, Taiwan, Jiulong, West Penghu, Penghu, Kaoping, Shoushan, Kaohsiung and the Fangliao canyons and submarine channels. The detailed geomorphological features of different submarine canyons and channels within the TCCS are analysed and summarized using multi‐beam bathymetry data and seismic reflection profiles across canyons. Based on the slope variations of the continental margin and the effects of turbidity currents and bottom currents on canyon, we propose a three‐stage evolutionary model of the TCCS. In the initial formation stage of canyon, the initial erosional grooves were created by tectonic activity on the continental slope and it represents the foundation of submarine canyons. During the growth and development stage, the submarine canyons are further evolved and the canyons began to deepen and widen from the continental slope to the deep‐water areas. It shows the weak erosion and sediment infilling within the canyons in this stage. On the northern continental slope of the South China Sea, continuous transportation and erosion of sediments led to the initial formation of grooves and it becomes the embryonic stage of submarine channels. The present stage of the TCCS was formed when the initial grooves on the continental slope have further developed and rebuilt under the erosion by the turbidity current and the scouring by the bottom current. In the last stage, the intense erosion by the turbidity current is supported by sediment waves around the submarine canyons and the migration of canyons is suggested by the cyclic steps formed within some canyons. The high‐velocity layer in the lower crust is widely distributed in the northern continental margin of the South China Sea. A detailed anatomy of the high‐velocity layer is crucial for understanding the continental rifting and crustal thinning. Based on three seismic reflection profiles across the Pearl River Mouth Basin (PRMB) and the global free‐air gravity anomaly data in this study, by the gravity modelling we construct the crustal structure along three seismic reflection profiles across the depression and uplift zones. The free‐air gravity anomaly data within the uplift and depression zones indicates the distinct zonation, and the high and low values of free‐air gravity anomalies in the basin show the northeastward trend. Based on the gravity modelling along the three seismic profiles, the crustal thickness is of 12–23 km beneath the basin and thickness of the crust is gradually thinning from the continental shelf to the continental slope. The high‐velocity layer extends eastward to the Dongsha Uplift and terminates westward beneath the Baiyun Sag. The average thickness of the high‐velocity layer is 4–6 km and the maximum thickness is about 8 km at the Dongsha Uplift. The thickness variation of the high‐velocity layer suggests the continuous distribution of mantle underplating and intense magma activity. According to the isolated distribution and the continuous distribution of the high‐velocity layer found by previous studies in the northern South China Sea, we use gravity modelling to test which models of the high‐velocity layer within the PRMB are reasonable. According to testing models and preferred models of the crustal structure by gravity modelling, we propose that the continuous distribution pattern of the high‐velocity layer is the best model to interpret the crustal thinning characteristics and the gravity anomaly responses of the high‐velocity layer in the basin. BACKGROUND: Myocardial ischemia, caused by insufficient myocardial blood supply, is a leading cause of human death worldwide. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize the prevention and treatment of this condition. Mathematical modeling is a powerful technique for studying heart diseases. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to discuss the quantitative relationship between extracellular potassium concentration and the degree of myocardial ischemia directly related to it. METHODS: A human cardiac electrophysiological multiscale model was developed to calculate action potentials of all cells simultaneously, enhancing efficiency over traditional reaction-diffusion models. RESULTS: Contrary to the commonly held view that myocardial ischemia is caused by an increase in extracellular potassium concentration, our simulation results indicate that level 1 ischemia is associated with a decrease in extracellular potassium concentration. CONCLUSION: This unusual finding provides a new perspective on the mechanisms underlying myocardial ischemia and has the potential to lead to the development of new diagnostic and treatment strategies. The Mariana subduction system is an ideal place for ocean–ocean convergence boundary research. As a typical example of an extensional subduction model, the subduction process, subduction mechanism and subduction effect of this system have long been popular research topics. The seismic reflection information of oceanic sedimentary layers shown on multichannel seismic profiles is an intuitive record of small‐ to medium‐scale structural activity and sedimentary sequence evolution and is an important source for studying plate‐coupling processes and tectonic dynamic action. This paper is based on the raw multichannel seismic data of MGL1204 in the Mariana arc forearc region; these data were obtained by using linear interference filter technique noise attenuation technology and multiple velocity iterations to accurately image the oceanic sedimentary layer, and the imagery is used to study the Cenozoic fracture activity and residual strata thickness distribution characteristics of the middle part of the Mariana forearc region and to explore the tectonic migration characteristics of the Cenozoic sedimentary basins. We believe that due to the influence of regional stress field changes caused by the movement directions of the Pacific Plate and Philippine Sea Plate towards the Eurasian Plate, the development of secondary structures in the western Pacific subduction zone shows a characteristic west‐to‐east migration, and the structural characteristics of the Mariana forearc Cenozoic sedimentary basin are consistent with the regional tectonic features. The faults, stratigraphy and depocentres of the oceanic sedimentary layer show a migration pattern from west to east and from north to south overall; 25 and 13 Ma are identified as two key tectonic migration periods, and the tectonic migration characteristics and time records of the basin also provide direct evidence for the plate reconstruction model of trench retreat and Philippine Sea plate rotation. Catalytic transfer hydrogenation (CTH) is a green and efficient pathway for selective hydrogenation of unsaturated aldehydes and ketones. However, managing the abilities of solid catalysts to adsorb substrates and to convert them into desired products is a challenging task. Herein, we report the synthesis of carbon coated LaFe0.92Pd0.08O3 composites (LFPO-8@C) for CTH of benzaldehyde (BzH) into benzyl alcohol (BzOH), using isopropanol (IPA) as hydrogen source. The coating with carbon improves the ability to adsorb/transfer reactants from solution to active sites, and the doping of Pd2+ at Fe3+ site strengthens the ability of LaFeO3 to convert BzH into BzOH. A balanced point between them (i.e., abilities to adsorb BzH and to convert BzH into BzOH) is obtained at LFPO-8@C, which exhibits a BzOH formation rate of 3.88 mmol⋅ggat-1⋅h-1 at 180 °C for 3 h, which is 1.50 and 2.72 times faster than those of LFPO-8 and LaFeO3@C. A reaction mechanism is proposed, in which the acidic sites (e.g., Fe4+, oxygen vacancy) are used for the activation of C=O bond of BzH and O–H bond of IPA, and the basic sites (e.g., lattice oxygen) for the activation of α–H (O–H) bond of IPA. The electrocatalytic synthesis of C–N coupling compounds from CO2 and nitrogenous species not only offers an effective avenue to achieve carbon neutrality and reduce environmental pollution, but also establishes a route to synthesize valuable chemicals, such as urea, amide, and amine. This innovative approach expands the application range and product categories beyond simple carbonaceous species in electrocatalytic CO2 reduction, which is becoming a rapidly advancing field. This review summarizes the research progress in electrocatalytic urea synthesis, using N2, NO2−, and NO3− as nitrogenous species, and explores emerging trends in the electrosynthesis of amide and amine from CO2 and nitrogen species. Additionally, the future opportunities in this field are highlighted, including electrosynthesis of amino acids and other compounds containing C–N bonds, anodic C–N coupling reactions beyond water oxidation, and the catalytic mechanism of corresponding reactions. This critical review also captures the insights aimed at accelerating the development of electrochemical C–N coupling reactions, confirming the superiority of this electrochemical method over the traditional techniques. Background and purpose: Several previous studies have shown that skin sebum analysis can be used to diagnose Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of this study was to develop a portable artificial intelligence olfactory‐like (AIO) system based on gas chromatographic analysis of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in patient sebum and explore its application value in the diagnosis of PD. Methods: The skin VOCs from 121 PD patients and 129 healthy controls were analyzed using the AIO system and three classic machine learning models were established, including the gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT), random forest and extreme gradient boosting, to assist the diagnosis of PD and predict its severity. Results: A 20‐s time series of AIO system data were collected from each participant. The VOC peaks at a large number of time points roughly concentrated around 5–12 s were significantly higher in PD subjects. The gradient boosting decision tree model showed the best ability to differentiate PD from healthy controls, yielding a sensitivity of 83.33% and a specificity of 84.00%. However, the system failed to predict PD progression scored by Hoehn−Yahr stage. Conclusions: This study provides a fast, low‐cost and non‐invasive method to distinguish PD patients from healthy controls. Furthermore, our study also indicates abnormal sebaceous gland secretion in PD patients, providing new evidence for exploring the pathogenesis of PD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present a novel approach for the in situ growth of bimetallic silicate onto ultrathin graphene, followed by in situ reduction and phosphorization to obtain uniformly dispersed bimetallic phosphides (rGO@FeNiP/rGO@FeCoP) on graphene layers. Unlike the traditional simple composites of single-metallic phosphides and carbon materials, the bimetallic synergy of rGO@FeNiP/rGO@FeCoP obtained through in situ growth, reduction, phosphorization, and alkaline treatment exhibits a large surface area, more nanopores and defects, and more active sites, facilitates electrolyte diffusion and gas release, accelerates electron transfer and enhances electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance. Furthermore, the continuous carbon layer architecture surrounding FeNiP/FeCoP provides structural support, improving catalyst stability. We have investigated the effect of different proportions of bimetals on electrocatalytic performance, providing a rational design and synthesis strategy for carbon-based bimetallic phosphides as a promising electrocatalyst for the OER.
