The article reflects on the beginnings of the Arkansas Library Paraprofessionals (ALPS). The concept of creating a group of paraprofessionals was started by Doctor Willie Hardin in 1991 when he attended a library conference in Virginia. After that, he instructed a group of paraprofessionals, including Sandy Olson and Donna Washko, to identify the interest level within the group and from there ALPS was formed. In May 1993, the first conference of ALPS convened at the Ozark Folk Center in Mount View, Arkansas. Information related to the succeeding conferences is also presented.
