Results of the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal to treat malaria with the pesticide DDT to kill mosquitoes and the Chinese-herb inspired drug artemisinin; Potential benefits of the drug, whose results in the South African project will be published in the Public Library of Science Medicine; Cure rate among people in KwaZulu-Natal attributable to artemisinin; How artemisinin differs from previous malaria medicines; Comments from Karen Barnes, author of the project's paper and assistant professor at University of Cape Town; Efforts of Barnes to persuade Novartis to slash the price of the medicine.
