Bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.) belongs to family Cucurbitaceae, and is a popular vegetable crop in the tropical and sub-tropical countries. It is an annually grown herbaceous vine that requires warm climate for growth. The leaves, stem and roots of bitter gourd contains a lot of bio-active components having nutritional and medicinal importance. Alternaria leaf blight (Alternaria cucumerina Ellis & Everh.) is a fungus which causes leaf blight on bitter gourd and leads to significant crop damage. The present study investigated the efficacy of five different fungicides against Alternaria leaf blight (ALB) of bitter gourd under in vivo and in vitro conditions. The single hyphal tip method was used to isolate and purify the fungal pathogen from the ALB infected leaves of bitter gourd. Five commercially available fungicides (1. Melody duo 66.8% WP, 2. Polyram DF 70%, 3. Score 250 EC, 4. Tilt 250 EC, 5. Flumax 60% EC) were evaluated at concentrations of 50 ppm and 100 ppm for effective ALB diseased control. Among tested fungicides, maximum inhibition (90 %) of fungal growth was given by Melody duo @ 100 ppm concentration followed by Polyram (81 %), Score (77 %) and Tilt (70 %), whereas Flumax resulted in minimum (45 %) fungal inhibition under in vivo. Melody duo revealed minimum disease incidence (15.67 %) compared to disease incidence recorded in polyram (17.83 %), Score (20.50 %) and Tilt (22.33 %) treated crop. Sunflower occupies the fourth position among oilseed crops the around the world. Eceriferum (CER) is an important gene family that plays critical role in very-long-chain fatty acids elongation and biosynthesis of epicuticular waxes under both biotic and abiotic stress conditions. The aim of present study was to investigate the effect of sunflower CER genes during drought stress condition. Thus, comparative analysis was undertaken for sunflower CER genes with Arabidopsis genome to determine phylogenetic relationship, chromosomal mapping, gene structures, gene ontology and conserved motifs. Furthermore, we subjected the sunflower cultivars under drought stress and used qRT-PCR analysis to explore the expression pattern of CER genes during drought conditions. We identified thirty-seven unevenly distributed CER genes in the sunflower genome. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that CER genes were grouped into seven clades in Arabidopsis , Helianthus annuus, and Gossypium hirsutum. Expression analysis showed that genes CER10 and CER60 were upregulated in sunflower during drought conditions, indicating that these genes are activated during drought stress. The results obtained will serve to characterize the CER gene family in sunflower and exploit the role of these genes in wax biosynthesis under limited water conditions. Cuticular waxes protect the plants from drought stress, so we observed the expression of wax bio synthesis genes in recently sequences genome of Helianthus annuus. Streptozotocin (STZ) 60 mg/kg, i.p.-induced diabetes in rat's results into hyperglycemia, impaired oxidative stress, lipid profile, insulin levels and changes in body weight. Treatment with antihyperglycemics and antioxidants are accounted to produce favorable effect in this paradigm. Fustin, a flavonoid derived from Rhus verniciflua, extract of Rhus verniciflua reported to exhibit anti-hyperglycemic, antioxidant, anti-microbial, anti-arthritic effects, anti-obesity effects, antiplatelet effects and anti-cancer effects. However, no evidence is existing on effect of fustin on STZ-induction diabetes. Thus, we evaluated its effects against diabetes in STZ-induced rodents. Blood glucose, Insulin, lipid peroxidation (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase activity (CAT), glutathione (GSH) and lipid profile levels was assessed. After 30 days diabetes induction rodents showed a severe increased blood sugar level, MDA, high density lipid and decreased cholestrol, triglyceride, GSH, SOD, CAT, respectively. Oppositely, treatment with fustin (50–100 mg/kg/p.o., two times daily, 30 days) enhanced blood glucose, lipid profile levels Insulin. Meanwhile, reduced MDA and enhanced GSH, SOD, and CAT in diabetic rats. Glibenclamide 5 mg/kg/p.o. also enhanced diabetes-induced complications and decreased oxidative stress. Further histopathology of pancreas confirms the protective effect fustin in STZ-induction diabetes in animals. In conclusion, the study revealed treatments with fustin avoid the changes in body weight, blood glucose, lipid profile and oxidative stress. Foxtail millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) is a vital crop that is planted as food and fodder crop around the globe. There is only limited information is present for abiotic stresses on the physiological responses to atrazine. A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different atrazine dosages on the growth, fluorescence and physiological parameters i.e., malonaldehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) (H 2 O 2 and O 2) in the leaves to know the extent of atrazine on oxidative damage of foxtail millet. Our experiment consisted of 0, 2.5, 12.5, 22.5 and 32.5 (mg/kg) of labeled atrazine doses on 2 foxtaill millet varieties. High doses of atrazine significantly enhanced ROS and MDA synthesis in the plant leaves. Enzymes activities like ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and peroxidase (POD) activities enhanced, while catalase (CAD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities reduced with increasing atrazine concentrations. Finally atrazine doses at 32.5 mg/kg reduced chlorophyll contents, while chlorophyll (a/b) ratio also enhanced. Biomass, plant height, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, minimal and maximal fluorescence (Fo, Fm), maximum and actual quantum yield, photochemical quenching coefficient, and electron transport rate are decreased with increasing atrazine doses. In this study, pure ZnO and iron (Fe) and cobalt (Co) co-doped ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by varying Fe and Co concentrations using the co-precipitation method. The physical properties of as-prepared samples were investigated through XRD, FTIR, SEM, and UV–vis spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction confirmed the strong influence of Fe and Co ions on structural parameters without disturbing the basic ZnO hexagonal structure. The microstructural study was executed by using the Scherrer, W–H, and SSP methods. FTIR confirmed the presence of Zn–O, and Zn–M–O (M = Fe, Co) vibrational modes, which further confirmed the successful incorporation of dopants ions. The energy bandgap (E g) extracted from UV–vis spectra has shown red-shift (3.37–2.7 eV) for decreasing Fe contents, whereas blue-shift (3.37–3.39 eV) for increasing Co concentration. SEM was used to investigate surface morphology, which represents the high rate of agglomeration. The photocatalytic test was performed on grown samples against various dyes and also observed the effects of varying concentrations of Fe and Co ions. The maximum degradation efficiency (98.8%) at 6%Fe and 4%Co under direct sunlight in 60 min against methylene blue (MB) was achieved. The photocatalytic activity of optimized concentration (6%Fe and 4%Co) was further tested against cresol red (CR), methyl orange (MO), safranin-O (SO), rhodamine-B (RhB), and methyl red (MR) dyes. The maximum degradation efficiency against MR dye (96.0%) was observed. The antibacterial test against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacterial strains have shown that co-doped ZnO nanoparticles have a higher activity as compared to pristine ZnO, and furthermore, the sample with 6%Fe and 4%Co concentration exposed the highest antibacterial actively for both bacterial strains.
