COVID-19 booster dose vaccination has been crucial in ensuring protection against COVID-19 including recently predominant Omicron variants. Because vaccines against newer SARS-CoV- 2 variants are likely to be recommended in future, it will be valuable to understand past booster dose uptake among different demographic groups. Using U.S. vaccination data, this study examined intervals between primary series completion and receipt of first booster dose (monovalent or bivalent) during August 2021 - October 2022 among persons ≥12 years of age who had completed a COVID-19 vaccine primary series by October 2021. Sub-populations who were late booster recipients (received a booster dose ≥12 months after the primary series) or received no booster dose included persons <35 years old, Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine primary dose recipients, persons in certain racial and ethnic groups, and persons living in rural and more socially vulnerable areas, and in the South region of the United States; these groups may benefit the most from public health outreach efforts to achieve timely COVID-19 vaccination completion in future. To compare donor-site morbidity for alveolar bone grafting results following cartilage-preserving outer and inner cortico-cancellous iliac crest (OCIC and ICIC) bone block grafting in children. Patients were randomly divided into two groups and prospectively reviewed. In the OCIC and ICIC groups, cortico-cancellous bone blocks were harvested at outer and inner iliac crest respectively. Patient characteristics and surgical parameters were compared; pain intensity and duration, lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) injury, gait disturbance, scar and contour satisfaction were analysed postoperatively. Forty-nine consecutive patients (OCIC, 24; ICIC, 25) were included. There were no significant differences in patient characteristics or donor-site surgical parameters. The mean pain score on the first post-operative day was significantly lower in the OCIC group (3.75±1.70) than in the ICIC group (5.20±2.08) (p=0.012). The pain duration was similar in the two groups (median: 5 days). Temporary LFCN injury only occurred in 3 patients in the ICIC group. Postoperatively, the duck and circle gaits were observed in the OCIC and ICIC groups, respectively. There were no significant differences in the claudication duration, scar and contour satisfaction between the groups. • A direct FE2 method was proposed for concurrent multilevel modeling of Joule heating effect in multiscale materials and structures. • The proposed methods can accurately capture the coupled thermoelectric response of Joule heating phenomenon in heterogeneous materials and structures. • Computational efficiency of the proposed method is 15 times higher than traditional FE simulations. Coupled thermoelectric problem significantly affects the performance of electric devices, while there seems to be no method for concurrent multiscale modeling of such problems, which significantly limits the development of advanced electric devices consisting of multiscale structures. To this end, a Direct FE2 (D-FE2) method is proposed for concurrent multiscale modeling of a typical type of coupled thermoelectric problems, i.e., Joule heating effect, in heterogeneous materials and structures. To enforce energy equilibrium and realize information transfer between the macro- and meso‑scales, the Hill-Mandel homogenization condition was generalized to account for both thermal and electric energy, while periodic boundary conditions derived from kinematic constraints were prescribed to both electric potential and temperature to link meso‑scale RVEs to macro-elements in the D -FE2 model. The proposed D -FE2 method can be easily implemented using the available feature "Multiple Points Constraint (MPC)" in many commercial FE software. A series of numerical examples including steady-state analysis and transient analysis of fiber composites, porous materials and lattice structures validate the favorable accuracy and efficiency of the proposed D-FE2 method in modeling the Joule heating phenomenon in multiscale materials and structures. Drawing from the social exchange theory and the involution effect, this research investigates the complex relationship between differential leadership and in-role performance, emphasizing the role of constructive deviance in the hotel industry. The present study introduces a competitive climate to demarcate the boundaries of differential leadership's influence on constructive deviance and in-role performance by focusing on frontline hotel service employees and their immediate supervisors. The findings underscore that differential leadership positively correlates with in-role performance by utilizing a three-stage questionnaire process with 469 frontline service employees and 68 direct supervisors. Constructive deviance emerges as a pivotal positive predictor, mediating the relationship between differential leadership and in-role performance. The development of the mining industry and the overuse of inorganic fertilizers have led to an excess of manganese (Mn) in the soil, thereby, contaminating the soil environment and people's health. On heavy metal-contaminated soils, the combined arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF)-phytoremediation technique becomes a hotspot because of its environmentally friendly, in situ remediation. AMF inoculation often leads to a decrease in host Mn acquisition, which provides a basis for its application in phytoremediation of contaminated soils. Moreover, the utilization value of native AMF is greater than that of exotic AMF, because native AMF can adapt better to Mn-contaminated soils. In addition to the fact that AMF enhance plant Mn tolerance responses such as regionalization, organic matter chelation, limiting uptake and efflux, and so on, AMF also develop plant-independent fungal pathways such as direct biosorption of Mn by mycorrhizal hyphae, fungal Mn transporter genes, and sequestration of Mn by mycorrhizal hyphae, glomalin, and arbuscule-containing root cortical cells, which together mitigate excessive Mn toxicity to plants. Clarifying AMF-plant interactions under Mn stress will provide support for utilizing AMF as a phytoremediation in Mn-contaminated soils. The review reveals in detail how AMF develop its own mechanisms for responding to excess Mn and how AMF enhance plant Mn tolerance, accompanied by perspectives for future research. Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are a category of broadly used antibiotics. Development of an effective and sensitive approach for determination of trace FQs in environmental and food samples is still challenging. Herein, the hydroxyl-containing triazine-based conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs-OH) was constructed and served as SPE absorbent for the efficient enrichment of FQs. Based on DFT simulations, the excellent enrichment capacity between CMPs-OH and FQs was contributed by hydrogen bonding and π-π interactions. In combination with high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, the proposed approach exhibited a wide linear range (0.2–400 ng L−1), low detection limits (0.05–0.15 ng L−1), and good intraday and interday precisions under optimal conditions. In addition, the established method was effectively utilized for the determination of FQs in fourteen samples with recoveries between 82.6 % and 109.2 %. [Display omitted] Recently, the hidden charm tetraquark states Z cs (3985) and Z cs (4000) with strangeness were observed by the BESIII and LHCb collaborations, respectively, which are great breakthroughs for exploring exotic quantum chromodynamics (QCD) structures. The first and foremost question is whether they are the same state. In this work, we explore the implications of the narrower state Z cs (3985) in BESIII and the wider one Z cs (4000) in LHCb as two different states. Within a solvable nonrelativistic effective field theory, we include the possible violations of heavy quark spin symmetry and SU(3) flavor symmetry in a comprehensive approach. If Z cs (3985) and Z cs (4000) are two different states, our results show that Z cs (4000) / Z cs (3985) is the pure (| D ‾ s ∗ D 〉 + / - | D ‾ s D ∗ 〉) / 2 state, and the SU(3) flavor partner of Z c (3900) is Z cs (4000) rather than the Z cs (3985). Another two important consequences are the existence of a tensor D ‾ s ∗ D ∗ resonance with mass about 4126 MeV and width 13 MeV, and the suppression of the decay mode Z cs (3985) → J / ψ K. Dairy cows with mastitis are frequently treated with antibiotics. The potential effect of antibiotics on the milk microbiome is still not clear. Therefore, the objective of this research was to investigate the effect of 2 commonly used cephalosporins on the milk microbiota of dairy cows and the antibiotic resistance genes in the milk. The milk samples were collected from 7 dairy cows at the period before medication (d 0), medication (d 1, 2, 3), withdrawal period (d 4, 6, 8), and the period after withdrawal (d 9, 11, 13, 15). We applied 16S rRNA sequencing to explore the microbiota changes, and antibiotic resistance patterns were investigated by quantitative PCR. The microbiota richness and diversity in each sample were calculated using the Chao 1 (richness), Shannon (diversity), and Simpson (diversity) indices. The cephalosporins treatment lowered the Simpson diversity value at the period of withdrawal. Members of the Enterobacter genera were the most affected bacteria associated with mastitis. Meanwhile, antibiotic resistance genes in the milk were also influenced by antibiotic treatment. The cephalosporins treatment raised the proportion of bla TEM in milk samples at the period of withdrawal. Therefore, the treatment of cephalosporins led to change in the milk microbiota and increase of β-lactam resistance gene in the milk at the time of withdrawal period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• rDWILs have been reported associating with worsened outcome of ICH. • Hematoma extension and inflammation are potential mechanisms of rDWILs occurrence. • LDH has been reported related to both hematoma extension and inflammation. • Patients with higher serum LDH level may be a useful predictor for rDWILs. To explore the influence of serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level on remote diffusion-weighted imaging lesions (rDWILs) after spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). A consecutive cohort of 160 patients with spontaneous ICH who had brain MRI within 4 weeks of ICH onset were collected and analyzed retrospectively. rDWILs showed high signal on diffusion-weighted image (DWI) while low signal on apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), and at least 20 mm away from the hemorrhage focus. The blood samples were obtained within 24 h after ICH onset from all patients. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels in blood were collected from serum biochemical tests. We use multivariate logistic regression analyses to investigate the association between serum LDH level and rDWILs after ICH. The average serum LDH level was 186.5 ± 35.6 U/L. And this level was higher in patients who presented rDWILs than in those without rDWILs. With the best cut-off value of 191 by using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, elevated LDH was associated with the presence of rDWILs independently (OR = 1.024, 95%CI = 1.011–1.037, P < 0.001) in the bivariate logistic regression analysis with adjustment for age, sex, previous ischemic stroke/TIA, smoker, SBP on admission, hematoma volume, and intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) of LDH ≥ 191 U/L for rDWILs were 70.4%, 72.2%, 33.9%, 94.2%, respectively. Our study suggests serum LDH level has a significant correlation with rDWILs after spontaneous ICH. Allergic rhinitis (AR) is the frequently-encountered disease and commonly seen in clinic. Acupuncture-moxibustion therapy brings the significant therapeutic effects on it. In order to achieve the significant effects on AR, the relevant key factors should be determined definitely in treatment with acupuncture-moxibustion therapy. In the combination of the theoretic study with clinical practice, the authors expounded the key factors in acupuncture-moxibustion treatment for AR, including the identification of disease and syndrome of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the differentiation of meridians, acupoint selection, manipulation key factors and timing. Abstract Developing precious metal-free electrocatalysts with both high and stable oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrochemical activity is still the key challenge in the wide application of clean energy, e.g. fuel cells or metal air batteries. Here, TiC based precious metal-free ORR catalyst has been studied by doping heterogeneous atoms. N-doping results in enhanced ORR performance of N/TiC, which was further elevated by introducing metal (e.g. Fe, Co) into TiC powders. Especially, the resultant Fe-N/TiC demonstrates the highest ORR activity among the prepared samples, which exhibits approximate 4e− pathway with a comparable electron-transfer number to the benchmark 20 wt%Pt/C, and much higher methanol tolerance than the latter in alkaline media. The high ORR performance of Fe-N/TiC composite could be ascribed to the cooperative effects of both N and metal doping, in which the N doping would lead to the change of electronic structure near the TiC surface and the formation of C-N active sites, and the metal species addition leads to the formation of a certain amount of Me-N x active sites resulting in the further ORR activity enhancement. The reasonably high and stable electrochemical catalytic activity and the excellent methanol tolerance make the precious-metal free Fe-N/TiC composite a promising candidate cathode catalyst in ORR. The mechanisms leading to self-assembly of misfolded proteins into amyloid aggregates have been studied extensively in the test tube under well-controlled conditions. However, to what extent these processes are representative of those in the cellular environment remains unclear. Using super-resolution imaging of live cells, we show here that an amyloidogenic polyglutamine-containing protein first forms small, amorphous aggregate clusters in the cytosol, chiefly by diffusion. Dynamic interactions among these clusters limited their elongation and led to structures with a branched morphology, differing from the predominantly linear fibrils observed in vitro. Some of these clusters then assembled via active transport at the microtubule-organizing center and thereby initiated the formation of perinuclear aggresomes. Although it is widely believed that aggresome formation is entirely governed by active transport along microtubules, here we demonstrate, using a combined approach of advanced imaging and mathematical modeling, that diffusion is the principal mechanism driving aggresome expansion. We found that the increasing surface area of the expanding aggresome increases the rate of accretion caused by diffusion of cytosolic aggregates and that this pathway soon dominates aggresome assembly. Our findings lead to a different view of aggresome formation than that proposed previously. We also show that aggresomes mature over time, becoming more compacted as the structure grows. The presence of large perinuclear aggregates profoundly affects the behavior and health of the cell, and our super-resolution imaging results indicate that aggresome formation and development are governed by highly dynamic processes that could be important for the design of potential therapeutic strategies. Abstract Glucose carbon microspheres have been widely used for wastewater treatment as adsorbent owing to their strong adsorption capacity, but for large-scale applications, the glucose carbon microspheres are inconvenient to be recycled from aqueous suspension due to their good suspendability. Moreover, the primitive nature of small particle size, large specific surface area and high surface energy of glucose carbon microspheres make them prone to aggregate and thus, disperse no-effectively for the other extended application. To solve this dilemma, polyester (PET) fibers decorated with glucose carbon microspheres (GC@PFs) were herein fabricated by one-step hydrothermal carbonization with acrylic acid as a coupling agent. The products were characterized by Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Boehm titration, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Thermo-gravimetric Analysis (TG), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and zeta potential respectively. The experimental results showed that a large amount of glucose carbon microspheres were evenly dispersed on the surface of carboxyl activated polyester fibers with uniform particle diameter, and the composite fibers showed desirable adsorption ability of cationic dyes for its more negative zeta potential. The dye adsorption isotherm follows Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model better. Remarkably, the adsorbent has an excellent recyclability for maintaining a high removal rate (>85%) to dye even after 10 cycles. Abstract The applications of Polylactide (PLA) microspheres in biomedical areas are greatly determined by the size, morphology and internal structure. Taking advantage of the formation of stereocomplex (SC) crystallites between poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) and poly(D-lactide) (PDLA), we propose a facile strategy to prepare PLA microspheres with tunable morphology and crystalline structure by compounding PLLA and PDLA. With increasing PDLA content, the crystallinity of SC-PLA rose gradually until the ratio of PLLA and PDLA reached 1:1 and then fell. Correspondingly, the morphology of the microspheres were varied (smooth, porous, golf-ball like, guava like) and higher crystallinity of SC-PLA would lead to a more coarse and porous structure. Finally, three typical kinds of Rifampicin-loaded microspheres with different ratio of PLLA and PDLA (7:3, 3:7, 10:0, sorted by porosity from high to low) were prepared and the release behavior was compared. At 30 h, the cumulative release of 7:3, 3:7 and 10:0 microspheres were 32.6%, 17.8% and 6.0% respectively, indicating that the release profiles were generally determined by the porosity of the microspheres. Our findings not only provide a new strategy to prepare PLA microspheres with controllable morphology but offer additional possibilities for the applications of SC-PLA products in biomedical area. Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is an early stage of Alzheimer's Disease (AD), often mistaken for natural aging. Early detection and treatment of MCI are crucial for effective treatment, but the condition can be difficult to diagnose. In recent years, multi-modal data and deep learning methods have shown promise in this field. The objective of this study is to develop a computer-aided MCI diagnosis system that effectively processes multi-modal data using deep learning methods. We proposed a Dual Fusion Cluster Graph Convolution Network (DFCGCN) model, which combines two channels of feature extraction, one adjacency matrix, and the Cluster GCN in series. Brain imaging is downsampled using graph pooling and flattened into sparse vectors, from which advanced features are extracted. Similarity between connectivity matrices is calculated using the Gaussian kernel function and combined with non-imaging details to construct a population graph that better represents inter-subject variability. Finally, features are assigned to subjects in the population graph, and node embeddings are learned using Cluster GCN to output diagnostic results. We tested the proposed algorithm on the public Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) dataset, achieving an accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of 90.7%, 91.1%, and 94.0%, respectively. The DFCGCN model presented in this study enhances the diagnosis of MCI and outperforms other state-of-the-art algorithms.
