In this article, the iterative learning control (ILC) problem is investigated for a class of stochastic time-varying systems with variable pass lengths. The randomness of the pass lengths is described by the recursive interval Gaussian distribution, and a modified iteration-average operator is developed to construct the novel ILC scheme for overcoming the limitation of conventional ILC algorithms that every pass must end in a fixed time of duration throughout the repetition. The proposed ILC approach works effectively to guarantee the boundedness of the tracking errors, which is demonstrated by a practical case study on a type of robot manipulator with two joints. In this paper, we propose a performance analysis algorithm of low density parity check-bit interleaved coded modulation (LDPC-BICM) system. First, we introduce the Gaussian mixture approximation method of the LLR messages output from the demodulator over the AWGN channel. Then, we analyze the density evolution based on these Gaussian mixture approximation LLR messages. During the analysis, the Gaussian approximation is applied to simplify the calculation. Some LDPC-BICM systems (which are adopted by ATSC3.0 standard) are used to evaluate the proposed algorithm. We also employ the actual performances and the thresholds obtained by the multi-edge type (MET) discretized density evolution algorithm as the references. The simulation results prove that our proposed algorithm can work well in most cases. The traditional degree distribution framework is a useful tool to analyze irregular low density parity check (LDPC) code. However, it cannot be used to analyze raptor-like LDPC code as it cannot describe the most important structural feature of raptor-like LDPC code, which is that any check node is connected to at most one degree-one variable node. In this paper, we propose a two-type degree distribution framework for raptor-like LDPC code. The proposed framework can describe the special structural feature of raptor-like LDPC code by dividing the check nodes into two different sets. One is the set of check nodes connected to those degree-one variable nodes, the other is the set of check nodes unconnected to those degree-one variable nodes. Furthermore, we propose a two-type discrete density evolution algorithm and a two-type Gaussian approximation density evolution algorithm based on the proposed two-type degree distribution framework to estimate the threshold of raptor-like LDPC code. During the decoding analysis, the proposed algorithms treat the check nodes belonging the two separate sets differently. Compared with the traditional multi-edge type (MET) algorithm, the proposed algorithms allow us to calculate the threshold more quickly without much sacrifice in accuracy. For some raptor-like LDPC codes adopted by the Advanced Television Systems Committee 3.0 (ATSC3.0) standard, the thresholds estimated by the proposed algorithms can be very close to the thresholds estimated by the traditional MET algorithm. The deviations are less than 0.07 dB. Meanwhile, the proposed algorithms can tremendously reduce the computation complexity because of the two-type degree distribution framework and the Gaussian approximation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the first part of this paper, we derive a source model describing the relationship between the rate, distortion, and quantization steps of the dead-zone plus uniform threshold scalar quantizers with nearly uniform reconstruction quantizers for generalized Gaussian distribution. This source model consists of rate-quantization, distortion-quantization (D-Q), and distortion-rate (D-R) models. In this part, we first rigorously confirm the accuracy of the proposed source model by comparing the calculated results with the coding data of JM 16.0. Efficient parameter estimation strategies are then developed to better employ this source model in our two-pass rate control method for H.264 variable bit rate coding. Based on our D-Q and D-R models, the proposed method is of high stability, low complexity and is easy to implement. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method achieves: 1) average peak signal-to-noise ratio variance of only 0.0658 dB, compared to 1.8758 dB of JM 16.0's method, with an average rate control error of 1.95% and 2) significant improvement in smoothing the video quality compared with the latest two-pass rate control method. This paper provides a systematic rate-distortion (R-D) analysis of the dead-zone plus uniform threshold scalar quantization (DZ+UTSQ) with nearly uniform reconstruction quantization (NURQ) for generalized Gaussian distribution (GGD), which consists of two aspects: R-D performance analysis and R-D modeling. In R-D performance analysis, we first derive the preliminary constraint of optimum entropy-constrained DZ+UTSQ/NURQ for GGD, under which the property of the GGD distortion-rate (D-R) function is elucidated. Then for the GGD source of actual transform coefficients, the refined constraint and precise conditions of optimum DZ+UTSQ/NURQ are rigorously deduced in the real coding bit rate range, and efficient DZ+UTSQ/NURQ design criteria are proposed to reasonably simplify the utilization of effective quantizers in practice. In R-D modeling, inspired by R-D performance analysis, the D-R function is first developed, followed by the novel rate-quantization (R-Q) and distortion-quantization (D-Q) models derived using analytical and heuristic methods. The D-R, R-Q, and D-Q models form the source model describing the relationship between the rate, distortion, and quantization steps. One application of the proposed source model is the effective two-pass VBR coding algorithm design on an encoder of H.264/AVC reference software, which achieves constant video quality and desirable rate control accuracy.
