Aim: We aimed to assess the impact of Tai Chi interventions on individuals with essential hypertension and to compare the effects of Tai Chi versus control in this population. Background: Tai Chi has been extensively utilized in the prevention of essential hypertension. Nevertheless, there is a lack of consensus regarding its benefits for treating essential hypertension. Design: A systematic review and meta‐analysis was conducted. Data Sources We conducted a systematic literature search of the Medline, Scholar, Elsevier, Wiley Online Library, Chinese Academic Journal (CNKI) and Wanfang databases from January 2003 to August 2023. Review Methods: Using the methods of the Cochrane Collaboration Handbook, a meta‐analysis was conducted to assess the collective impact of Tai Chi exercise in controlling hypertension. The primary outcomes measured included blood pressure and nitric oxide levels. Results: The participants consisted of adults with an average age of 57.1 years who had hypertension (mean ± standard deviation systolic blood pressure at 148.2 ± 12.1 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure at 89.2 ± 8.3 mmHg). Individuals who practiced Tai Chi experienced reductions in systolic blood pressure of 10.6 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure of 4.7 mmHg and an increase in nitric oxide levels. Conclusions: Tai Chi can be a viable lifestyle intervention for managing hypertension. Greater promotion of Tai Chi by medical professionals could extend these benefits to a larger patient population. Summary statement: What is already known about this topic? Hypertension is the primary risk factor for cardiovascular disease.Essential hypertension accounts for 90% of the overall prevalence of hypertension.Tai Chi has been employed for the prevention and treatment of essential hypertension. Aim: To determine the effectiveness of brief reminiscence‐based psychosocial interventions in alleviating psychological distress in cancer patients. Background: Cancer patients suffer tremendous psycho‐spiritual pain, which affects their quality of life. Brief reminiscence‐based psychosocial interventions have demonstrated positive effects on the mental health of cancer patients; however, the efficacy of these interventions has been inconsistent. Design: A systematic review and meta‐analysis. Methods: This review was conducted and reported in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 checklist provided by the EQUATOR network. The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PsycINFO, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL and Scopus databases were systematically searched from inception to 27 November 2022 to identify randomised controlled trials (RCTs) published in English. Results: Twenty studies involving 1744 cancer participants were included. The meta‐analysis showed statistically significant effects of brief reminiscence‐based psychosocial interventions on hope, anxiety and depression at post‐intervention. A separate analysis revealed that brief reminiscence‐based psychosocial interventions had a sustainable effect on hope, spiritual well‐being, anxiety and depression at 1 month after the intervention. However, no statistically significant effect on quality of life was found in our study either immediately after the intervention or at 1 month. Conclusions: Brief reminiscence‐based psychosocial interventions can significantly reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms and improve hope and spiritual well‐being in cancer patients. Relevance to Clinical Practice: This study further supports that brief reminiscence‐based psychosocial interventions should be incorporated into the routine care of cancer patients to address their psychosocial distress. This contribution aims to highlight the theoretical and epistemological premises of the co‐writing experience, a practice where a clinician and a patient are mutually engaged in jointly or collaboratively writing a narrative related to the patient's experience. Unlike a typical set of therapeutic techniques, co‐writing is based on sharing perspectives and meanings about the experience of crisis, recovery, and the therapeutic process. The paper identifies and briefly describes four non‐clinical epistemological paradigms on which it is grounded: ethnography, values‐based practice, narrative care, and phenomenology. Although they differ in several ways, at the same time, they seem to share some common features that the paper investigates and comments. For clinicians, nurses, researchers and Mental Health Service managers, attention to the users and to the improvement of their active roles represents not only a strategy for the empowerment of results, but also the access door to a different perspective which relies on a renewed conceptualization of the mental disease nature that may lead to overcoming the epistemic asymmetry between the 'expert' and the 'other' in favor of intersubjective dialogue. Introduction: The efficacy of psychological interventions delivered under the Mental Health Act (1983) (MHA) in England and Wales is unclear. While meta‐analyses have reviewed acute and forensic psychological interventions in wider geographical areas, there has been no review specifically in the unique MHA context. Aim: A systematic review was conducted of psychological outcomes for inpatients detained under the MHA in England and Wales. Method: Diagnoses and type of psychological intervention were not restricted, provided a psychological outcome measure was used. Studies were identified through APA PsychInfo, MEDLINE, CINAHL and Academic Search using a combination of key terms. Data extraction included effect direction, statistical significance, intervention type, format and duration, study size, inpatient setting, control group and study quality. Results: High‐quality evidence was sparse. Some improvements were found in overall well‐being, self‐esteem, social functioning, problem‐solving, substance use, anger, offending attitudes, fire‐setting, violence, anxiety, depression, personality disorder and psychosis. However, the overall evidence base is lacking. Discussion: Larger‐scale randomized controlled trials are needed across secure, acute and learning disability inpatient settings in England and Wales with longer term follow‐up, blind assessors and both self‐report and clinician‐rated measures, as well as incident, readmission and reoffending rates. Greater representation is needed of females, non‐white groups and affective disorders. Clinical Implications: The efficacy of psychological interventions for inpatients detained under the MHA in England and Wales remains unclear. Clinicians are encouraged to use relevant outcome measures in relation to treatment goals, to monitor the efficacy of interventions being offered to this client group. Relevance to Mental Health Nursing: This paper highlights the current body of evidence for psychological interventions in inpatient settings within England and Wales, which is an environment in which mental health nursing plays an important role in patients' recovery. This evidence is also particularly important as there is a shift in clinical practice to training nursing staff to deliver some of the low‐intensity psychological interventions, such as behavioural activation, solution‐focussed therapy and motivational interviewing. Accessible Summary: What is known on the subject?: Women are more likely to experience intimate partner violence (IPV) than men; 19.2%–69.0% of women have experienced IPV, and the percentage is increasing.Survivors of IPV suffer from physical, psychological, social and reproductive health problems and numerous adverse health consequences such as post‐traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety. These are considered IPV comorbidities, especially among women. Trauma‐informed care (TIC) is the most common element of IPV care. Aim: This study analysed the short‐term (3 months) and medium‐term (6 months) outcomes of TIC on PTSD, depression and anxiety in women experiencing IPV. Method: The Preferred Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analysis guidelines were followed, and databases were searched from their inception to September 2022. Results: Thirteen randomized controlled trials included 850 women randomly assigned to the TIC and usual care groups. Overall, TIC showed a superior psychological health‐improving effect. Depression and anxiety significantly improved after treatment and at three and 6 months. No difference was observed in PTSD between the two groups at 3 and 6 months. Discussion: The growing evidence demonstrates that the lack of IPV intervention effects reported by reviews may be due to the attributes of PTSD, heterogeneity of TIC intervention design and components of TIC. Therefore, its clinical efficacy remains inconclusive. Implications for Practice: We analysed studies by stratifying intervention frequencies of once or twice a week. Regardless of the intervention frequency, length and design, PTSD decreased immediately after the TIC intervention. Aim: This study aimed to examine the extent, range and variety of research in Europe describing healthcare interventions for older people with dementia (PwD) and family caregivers. Methods: This was a scoping review and followed the PRISMA Scoping Review guideline. MEDLINE, CINAHL and Cochrane library databases were searched for studies published between 2010 and 2020. Studies reporting healthcare interventions in Europe for PwD over 65 years and their family caregivers were included. Results: Twenty‐one studies from six European countries were included. The types of healthcare intervention identified were categorized as follows: (1) family unit intervention (interventions for both PwD and their family caregiver), (2) individual intervention (separate interventions for PwD or family caregivers) and (3) family caregiver only intervention (interventions for family caregivers only but with outcomes for both PwD and family caregivers). Conclusions: This review provides insight into healthcare interventions for older PwD and family caregivers in Europe. More studies are needed that focus on the family as a unit of care in dementia. Summary statement: What is already known about this topic? In Europe, the population is ageing, and the number of People with Dementia (PwD) who require long‐term care and family support is increasing.A diagnosis of dementia is a 'family affair', as dementia is associated with physical, emotional and social costs for both PwD and their family caregivers, with impacts on family dynamics and functioning, even more so, when the PwD are older. This scoping review provides insight into the types of healthcare interventions targeting older PwD and family caregivers in Europe.It reveals that most studies (n = 19; 90%) consider the family of PwD as the 'context of care' and not as a recipient of care. What this paper adds to existing knowledge?: The personal factors positively associated with the mentalizing capacities of healthcare professionals are being female, greater work experience and having a more secure attachment style. Psychosocial factors are having personal experience with psychotherapy, burnout, and in the case of female students, being able to identify with the female psychotherapist role model during training. There is limited evidence that training programmes can improve mentalizing capacities.Although the mentalization field is gaining importance and research is expanding, the implications for mental health nursing have not been previously reviewed. Mental health nurses are underrepresented in research on the mentalizing capacities of healthcare professionals. This is significant given that mental health nurses work closest to patients and thus are more often confronted with patients' behaviour compared to other health care professionals, and constitute a large part of the workforce in mental healthcare for patients with mental illness. Mental health nurses should be able to recognize situations where patients' lack of ability to mentalize creates difficulties in the interaction. They should also be able to recognize their own difficulties with mentalizing and be sensitive to the communicative implications this may have. Introduction: Mentalizing capacities of clinicians help to build effective therapeutic relationships and lead to better patient outcomes. Few studies have focused on factors associated with clinicians' mentalizing capacities and the intervention strategies to improve them. Aim: Present a systematic review of empirical studies on factors associated with healthcare professionals' mentalizing capacities and the effectiveness of intervention programmes designed to improve these capacities. Method: Following PRISMA‐guidelines, a systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library and CINAHL. Results: Out of a systematic search with 1537 hits, 22 studies were included. Personal factors positively associated with mentalizing capacities of healthcare professionals are being female, greater work experience and having a more secure attachment style. Psychosocial factors are having personal experience with psychotherapy, burnout, and in the case of female students, being able to identify with the female psychotherapist role model during training. Evidence that training programmes improve mentalizing capacities is limited. Aim: This study aimed to examine non‐pharmacological interventions for people living with YOD and/or their carers, and to analyse how those interventions support their needs. Method: A scoping review methodology was utilized to search the studies examining interventions for people living with YOD and/or their carers, and in English or Korean. The information was extracted, summarized and analysed in CANE categories. Results: Sixteen studies were included in the review. Five types of interventions were drawn. 'Memory' was the most covered part of the needs by the interventions. Discussion: This study found that interventions currently do not match the needs of people living with YOD and their carers. Multidisciplinary research would be eligible to cover the subjects' wide range of the needs as much as possible. Implications for Practice: We suggest the development of a specialized needs assessment tool and specialized interventions for people living with young‐onset dementia and their carers. What is known on the subject?: Reminiscence therapy is a common psychosocial intervention in mental health nursing.Numerous secondary studies have explored the effects of reminiscence therapy interventions in older adults, and while the effects are significant, conflicting results remain. What this paper adds to existing knowledge?: To date, research on reminiscence therapy has examined different disorders in isolation from one another.By illustrating the evidence gaps between studies, this paper highlights the need for a new evidence‐based summary overview of reminiscence therapy research.The results suggest that reminiscence therapy can be beneficial to the improvement of mental health and quality of life for older people.However, we found that the secondary studies were not of high quality and that further high‐quality literature supporting the evidence is still needed. Introduction: Reminiscence therapy is an alternative to pharmaceutical intervention provided during long‐term care, especially for older people with mental and psychological problems. However, the effects of reminiscence therapy remain inconclusive. Aim: The present study aimed to systematically identify, synthesize and describe the research evidence and quality of systematic reviews (SRs) related to reminiscence interventions for older people through an evidence‐mapping approach. Methods: Commonly used English and Chinese databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI, WANFANG, VIP and SinoMed, were searched from inception till 31 March 2022. The study type was restricted to SRs with or without meta‐analysis. The methodological quality of the included SRs was assessed by A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR‐2). The Microsoft Excel 2019 tool was used for data extraction and coding, and bubble charts were used to synthesize information on the study population, intervention category, original study sample size and classification of findings. Results: A total of 28 SRs were enrolled, including 514 original studies, 91.4% of which were randomized controlled trials. The main participants of the study were depressed older people (7 publications), older people with dementia (10 publications) and ordinary older people (8 publications). The findings of 26 (92.8%) publications were categorized as either "beneficial" or "potentially beneficial." The primary outcome indicators of the effectiveness of the reminiscence intervention for older people are mental and psychological problems (especially depressive symptoms and cognitive functioning), quality of life and categories of positive psychology (e.g., life satisfaction, happiness and self‐esteem). The main factors influencing the intervention effect were the intervention period, residential setting, intervention format (group/individual) and intervention intensity. The intervention settings/contexts were mainly community and long‐term care facilities. However, the methodological quality of 27 (96.4%) of the SRs was scored as either "Low" or "Critically Low." Discussion: Reminiscence therapy has been used to study the mental health and quality of life of older people in various conditions, with significant results. However, due to the limited evidence included in the studies and the low methodological quality, there is still a need to focus on the issue of effectiveness and evidence gaps for different interventions in the field of recall in the future, in addition to efforts to improve the methodological quality and standardize the reporting process for the evaluation of reminiscence intervention systems. Implications for Practice: Reminiscence therapy may be considered a useful non‐pharmacological intervention for older people with mental and psychological problems. Aims and objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of narrative therapy in relieving stigma in oral cancer patients who underwent major surgical treatment. Background: Health‐related stigma compromises mental health and life quality in people with physical or mental abnormalities. Narrative therapy has been implemented to overcome stigma among populations in a diversity of disease states. However, the effectiveness of narrative therapy in relieving stigma among patients with oral cancer is not known. Design This study was a randomized controlled trial, in which 100 oral cancer patients were selected and randomly assigned to the 'narrative therapy' group, who received narrative therapy treatment in addition to standard care, and the 'control' group, who was provided standard care only. Methods: This research combined measurement of several questionnaires to evaluate stigma. Analysis of variance and paired t tests were employed for data analysis. Results: Findings in this study demonstrated that narrative therapy treatment effectively relieved oral cancer patients' sense of shame, reducing overall stigma and significantly improving self‐esteem and social relationships. Conclusions: Narrative therapy was demonstrated to be a promising therapeutic intervention for stigma relief in oral cancer patients. Summary statement: What is already known about this topic? Stigma is common among oral cancer patients, especially those who undergo major surgical resection. Psychological intervention is highly recommended in addition to postsurgical care.Narrative therapy might help relieve stigma among oral cancer patients. What this paper adds? Introduction: In recovery‐oriented care, forensic psychiatric nurses must engage in care relationships with forensic psychiatric patients (FPs) whilst focussing on ward security. Online video games (OVGs) may provide a platform for negotiating power and social relations. Studies showing how OVG interventions may influence power balances in forensic psychiatric care are needed to guide clinical practice. Aim: Our aim was to study how power relations were articulated between FPs and staff in an OVG intervention in a Danish forensic psychiatric ward. Method: Data consist of three months of observational data and interviews with three staff members and six patients. We used sociologist Pierre Bourdieu's framework of field, power and capital to analyze data. Results: The OVG intervention consisted of two power fields, "in‐game" and "over‐game." In‐game concerned the practice of gaming. Over‐game described the organization of the gaming intervention. Specific logics, skills and symbolic capitals drove power in each field. Discussion: Power in‐game was open to FPs and staff, leading to symmetric power relations. Power over‐game was open to staff only, resulting in asymmetrical power relations. Implications for practice: Online video game interventions may facilitate power balancing in forensic psychiatry. Objectives: The objective of this study is to systematically review the literature with the following aims: to survey the art and music interventions offered to the stem cell transplant population; to define the interventions' beneficial properties by conceptualising themes; to analyse these themes using behavioural activation principles as a lens and explore their value in alleviating isolation‐related distress. Background: Patients undergoing stem cell transplant are at great risk of psychological morbidity, partly on account of prolonged hospital stays in protective isolation. This risk extends beyond discharge and into ambulatory care, negatively affecting quality‐of‐life and survival rates of the transplant recipients. Design: Integrative review methodology. Methods: A systematic search of 10 bibliographic databases was undertaken using terms relating to art, music and stem cell transplantation for the years 2012 to 2019. Records were assessed for quality and risk‐of‐bias using a critical appraisal tool and following the PRISMA Systematic Review checklist to guide reporting. Studies were analysed narratively and thematically. Results: The 16 papers were of mixed quality. Findings and treatment effects differed between and within studies. The beneficial attributes of the treatments were clustered and divided into two groups. The first consisted of intrinsic, patient‐focussed factors: (1) Creative outlet or acquisition of a new skill; (2) achievement of normality; (3) mutual or peer‐support; (4) relationship‐building and (5) meaningful recreation, distraction and diversion. The second group considered extrinsic factors: (6) Improved communication; (7) enhanced spiritual care and (8) better healthcare experience. Conclusions: Several art and music interventions have been attempted which were beneficial to patients and generated a sense of achievement, connection and enjoyment. The interventions appear to uphold the principles of person‐centred holistic care and have potential to generate a high‐quality, supportive healthcare and working environment. Introduction: Despite findings that 1 in 4 eating disorder sufferers are male (Beat, 2017), they continue to be known as "female" disorders, an association which delays diagnosis in males and prevents them from seeking the help that they need to recover. Aim: The current paper aimed to challenge this misconception by enabling and supporting Ben, a young male diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa aged 16, to share his experience of seeking and receiving treatment for the disorder. Discussion: MHNs recognize that regular clinical supervision is required to increase their confidence, along with PSI guidelines for the offering of these skills across practice settings. Introduction: The effects of grief on fathers that have experienced perinatal loss merit further exploration. Aim: The purpose of this paper is to draw attention to the experience of grief felt by fathers when facing perinatal loss. A father's grief and loss are frequently unrecognized and underappreciated by healthcare professionals who customarily attend only to the needs of mothers. Results: Data for this study were based on a couple's lived experience. This is a co‐authored piece by a husband and wife. This literature suggests that the lack of resources for fathers might result in unresolved grief which if prolonged could be expressed in potential losses during subsequent pregnancies. Implications for Practice: Content from a review of the literature provides evidence helpful in addressing the recognition and management of grief in fathers experiencing perinatal losses. Method This paper uses interpretative phenomological approach around detailed thematic examination of an extended, semi-structured with a single SU: Dale. Moreover, four years after the interview was originally conducted, Dale was himself invited to reflect upon, and critically re-evaluate, his initial participation as a co-author of this paper. In this way, a genuinely participant-centred narrative on experiences with CRHT could be generated. Implications for Practice This resulted in Dale describing what 'crisis' meant to him, and his personal journey within that crisis. Although framing some experiences as negative, he primarily argues that the CRHT team was very personable, affirming his personal values and beliefs, and encouraging him to use coping skills that he had utilised effectively in prior periods of crisis. Abstract: Aim: To assess the effectiveness of non‐pharmacological interventions for pregnant women with symptoms of mild to moderate anxiety. Background: Many pregnant women experience mild to moderate symptoms of anxiety and could benefit from additional support. Non‐pharmacological interventions have been suggested for use during pregnancy. Design: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials. Data sources: Randomized controlled trials published since 1990, identified from electronic databases: Medline; CINAHL; Maternity and Infant Care; PsycINFO; Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews; CENTRAL; EMBASE; Centre for Reviews and Dissemination; Social Sciences Citation Index; ASSIA; HTA Library; Joanna Briggs Institute Evidence‐Based Practice database; Allied and Complementary Medicine. Review methods: Conducted according to the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination procedure. Papers were screened (N = 5,222), assessed for eligibility (N = 57) and selected for inclusion (N = 25). The Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing risk of bias was used. Papers were assessed for clinical and statistical heterogeneity and considered for meta‐analysis. Descriptive analysis of the data was conducted. Results: Psychological, mind‐body, educational and supportive interventions were delivered individually and to groups of pregnant women over single or multiple sessions. The State‐Trait Anxiety Inventory was the most commonly used anxiety measure. In 60% of studies there were fewer than 40 participants. Meta‐analysis of three studies indicated no observed beneficial effect in the reduction of anxiety. Conclusion: There was insufficient evidence from which to draw overall conclusions regarding the benefit of interventions. Results were predominantly based on small samples. Method: Staff members (N = 138) of a large psychiatric hospital in Germany were assessed using the Staff Attitude to Coercion Scale (SACS) and newly developed items assessing staff members' emotions and views on coercion. Results: Experienced staff members were most critical of coercion. Nurses rated coercion significantly more positively than other staff. Data were collected using semi‐structured interviews and analysed using thematic analysis. Findings: Eight females and eight males with an age range from 21 years to 55 years were recruited. Three themes were identified that described why participants chose to participate in psychotherapy: medication was not enough, a turning point and making sense of experience. The participants chose to participate in psychotherapy after finding that medication was insufficient and this combined with a sense of crisis motivated them to engage in psychotherapy in order to learn to manage their mood differently. Discussion: The participants recognized that they wanted a framework other than a medical model with its reliance on medication, in order to make sense of their experiences and develop new self‐management strategies. Implications for Practice: Our study suggests that some people experiencing a serious mood disorder access psychotherapy after "hitting rock bottom" and finding insufficient help from medications. Mental health nurses need to be aware people do not always want a medical model approach to treatment of serious mood disorders and they need to provide the opportunity of engaging in a psychotherapeutic framework in order to better understand and manage their mood. Aims: The clinical significance of cancer‐related stigma on patients' well‐being has been widely established. Stigma can be perceived and internalised by cancer patients or implemented by the general population and healthcare workers. Various interventions have been carried out to reduce cancer‐related stigma, but their effectiveness is not well‐understood. This review aims to synthesise evidence on the effectiveness of interventions to reduce cancer‐related stigma. Design: An integrative review. Methods: This integrative review combined both qualitative and quantitative studies and followed five steps to identify problems, search for the literature, appraise the literature quality, analyse data, and present data. Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (version 2018) was applied to evaluate the quality of the included studies. Data Sources: Databases included Web of Science, MEDLINE, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Journals, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, OVID, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (from the inception of each database to 30 April 2021). Results: Eighteen quantitative, six qualitative, and five mixed‐methods studies were included in this review. Cultural factors should be considered when conducting interventions to reduce cancer‐related stigma. For cancer patients, multi‐component interventions have demonstrated a positive effect on their perceived stigma. For general population, interactive interventions show promise to reduce their implemented stigma towards cancer patients. For healthcare workers, there is a paucity of studies to reduce their implemented stigma. Existing studies reported inconclusive evidence, partially due to the lack of a robust study design with an adequate sample size. Conclusions: Multi‐component and interactive interventions show promise to relieve cancer‐related stigma. More methodologically robust studies should be conducted in different cultures to elucidate the most appropriate interventions for different populations to reduce cancer‐related stigma. Background: Caregivers of children with chronic diseases suffer from great parenting pressure, which directly affects the treatment and rehabilitation of children, reduces the quality of life of caregivers and damages family functioning. Existing reviews have not systematically summarized and evaluated interventions for parenting stress in caregivers of children with chronic diseases. Data Sources: Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, OVID, CNKI, CBM, Wan Fang and Cochrane Library were searched for eligible reviews in November 2021 and October 2022. Methods: Two reviewers independently screened titles and abstracts, reviewed full texts of articles for eligibility, and appraised the quality of reviews using JBI. The quality of the evidence was assessed using GRADE. Findings are reported in accordance with PRISMA checklist. Narrative summaries grouped findings by intervention types. Results: Out of 2632 records, we included 21 systematic reviews for a synthesis. Interventions for parenting stress in children with chronic diseases were divided into seven categories. Cognitive behavioural interventions, psychosocial interventions, child behavioural and/or developmental parent interventions and synthesized interventions have shown high‐level evidence in reducing parenting stress for caregivers of children with chronic diseases. Furthermore, outcome measures and intervention protocols were highly heterogeneous across interventions. Conclusions: This umbrella review suggest that reducing the parenting stress of caregivers of children with chronic diseases can directly target caregivers' parenting stress through cognitive behavioural interventions/psychosocial interventions and/or provide guidance to parents on the behavioural and developmental problems of children with chronic diseases. A more standardized approach to outcome measures is essential to assess efficacy and compare interventions across studies. Relevance to Clinical Practice: The findings provide information and evidence for reducing parenting stress among caregivers of children with chronic diseases to guide the development of comprehensive intervention strategies. Given that up to 80% of people relapse within 2 years, it was important to establish how these participants described the process of staying well. Aim: To examine how participants in a psychotherapy for young people with bipolar disorder study at 5‐year follow‐up described their experiences of the intervention and its impact on living with the disorder. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted 5 years after participants had completed a psychotherapy intervention in a randomized controlled trial for young people with bipolar disorder. Thirty people were recruited into this qualitative study and interviewed regarding their experiences. The data were analysed using an inductive thematic analysis. Findings: Three themes were identified from the data: self‐awareness in the context of bipolar disorder; understanding my bipolar disorder; and learning to stay well with bipolar disorder. Conclusions: Mental health nurses can promote the factors that participants found helpful in learning to stay well self‐awareness, understanding the unique characteristics of their disorder, learning to take care of the self and stabilization of social rhythms. Aims: The aims of the study were to explore the experiences of women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and their partners and examine the factors influencing partner involvement in GDM management, seeking to inform a targeted couple‐based intervention. Design: A descriptive qualitative study. Methods: We conducted semi‐structured interviews with 14 women with GDM and their partners. Participants were recruited through convenience sampling from a tertiary hospital in Xi'an, China. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. Results: Three themes and 12 subthemes were identified. Theme I: Women's expectations of their partner's involvement in GDM management—practical support and emotional support. Theme II: Partner involvement in GDM management—constructive involvement, unhelpful involvement with good intentions and insufficient involvement. Theme III: Factors that influence partner involvement in GDM—knowledge of GDM, GDM risk perception, health consciousness, attitudes towards the treatment plan, couple communication regarding GDM management, family roles and appraisal of GDM management responsibility. Conclusion: Women desired practical and emotional support from partners. The types of partner involvement in GDM management varied. Some partners provided constructive support, while some partners' involvement was limited, non‐existent or actively unhelpful. By combining these results with the factors influencing partner involvement, our findings may help healthcare professionals develop strategies to involve partners in GDM care and enhance women's ability to manage GDM. Implications for the Profession and Patient Care: Partner involvement in GDM care may help them understand and better attend to women's needs, thus improving their experience and potential outcomes. Aim: This scoping review aims to describe published work on the symptoms and management of long COVID conditions. Background: Symptoms and management of COVID‐19 have focused on the acute stage. However, long‐term consequences have also been observed. Methods: A scoping review was performed based on the framework suggested by Arksey and O'Malley. We conducted a literature search to retrieve articles published from May 2020 to March 2021 in CINHAL, Cochrane library, Embase, PubMed and Web of science, including backward and forward citation tracking from the included articles. Among the 1880 articles retrieved, 34 articles met our criteria for review: 21 were related to symptom presentation and 13 to the management of long COVID. Results: Long COVID symptoms were described in 21 articles. Following COVID‐19 treatment, hospitalised patients most frequently reported dyspnoea, followed by anosmia/ageusia, fatigue and cough, while non‐hospitalised patients commonly reported cough, followed by fever and myalgia/arthralgia. Thirteen studies described management for long COVID: Focused on a multidisciplinary approach in seven articles, pulmonary rehabilitation in three articles, fatigue management in two articles and psychological therapy in one study. Conclusion: People experience varied COVID‐19 symptoms after treatment. However, guidelines on evidence‐based, multidisciplinary management for long COVID conditions are limited in the literature. The COVID‐19 pandemic may extend due to virus mutations; therefore, it is crucial to develop and disseminate evidence‐based, multidisciplinary management guidelines. Relevance to clinical practice: A rehabilitation care plan and community healthcare plans are necessary for COVID‐19 patients before discharge. The effects of the programme were measured using a self-awareness scale, the Nowotny Hope Scale, the Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scale, and the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale. The two groups were homogeneous. There were significant differences in hope, positive and negative emotions, and depression between the experimental and control group. The results established that NTEA can be a useful nursing intervention strategy for people with depression by focusing on positive experiences and by helping depressed patients develop a positive identity through authoring affirmative life stories. Mental health nursing is a therapeutic practice that draws on knowledge that is practical, tacit, empirical, embodied and intuitive, as well as knowledge that is regarded here as beyond the tacit; the latter indicating an encounter with the abject. Mental health nursing as a practice potentially places an extraordinary ethical onus on the individual nurse in his/her relations with patients and indicates that it is the person of the nurse who is therapeutic rather than any knowledge framework, with major implications for education and professional identity. The Mental Health Nurse Incentive Programme (MHNIP) provides funding to organizations to enable mental health nurses (MHNs) to provide care to people with complex needs in primary care settings in Australia. The programme is based on a 'for and on-behalf of' practice nursing model whereby the MHN is presumed to have no specialist knowledge, skills or professional autonomy, and rather extends the reach of medicine. This paper provides a profile of MHNs working in the MHNIP derived from an online survey. A content analysis of responses establishes that nurses who work within MHNIP are highly experienced, and have extensive postgraduate qualifications particularly in psychotherapy. Nurses have negotiated a range of complex employment and contractual arrangements with organizations and pushed the boundaries of the programme to realize good outcomes. The 'practice nurse model' of employment and the underpinning assumptions about MHNs and their skill set relative to other professions is critically examined. Introduction: The global nursing workforce is predominantly female, with a large proportion working in the 45–55 age group. Menopause is a transition for all women, and; therefore needs recognition as it can impact work performance and consequently staff turnover. Background: Women will go through the menopause, but not all women are affected. The menopause transition presents a range of signs and symptoms both physical and psychological which can impact the quality of life and individuals' work/life balance. The nursing workforce is predominantly women that will work through the menopause transition. Objectives: The study explored perspectives on digital health interventions as strategies to support menopausal women and to understand the requirements for designing health interventions for support in the workplace. Design: A qualitative explorative design. Settings: Nurses working in a range of clinical settings in England, Finland, Denmark, New Zealand, Australia and USA. Methods: Nurses (n = 48) participated in focus groups from six different countries from February 2020–June 2022 during the pandemic from a range of acute, primary care and education settings. Nurses were invited to participate to share their experiences. Thematic analysis was used. Results: All participants were able to describe the physical symptoms of menopause, with some cultural and possible hemisphere differences; more noticeable was the psychological burden of menopause and fatigue that is not always recognized. Four themes were identified: Managing symptoms in the workplace; Recognition in the workplace; Menopause interventions; and Expectation versus the invisible reality. These themes revealed information that can be translated for implementation into digital health interventions. Conclusions: Managers of nursing female staff in the menopausal age range need greater awareness, and menopause education should involve everyone. Finally, our results demonstrate design attributes suitable for inclusion in digital health strategies that are aligned with likely alleviation of some of the discomforts of menopause. Aims: To evaluate the effects of couple‐based dyadic interventions on breast cancer patients and their intimate partners and compare the effects between interventions with different durations (<3 months; =3 months; >3 months). Design: A systematic review and meta‐analysis. Data sources: Six English databases, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science Core Collection, the Cochrane Library, Medline, PsycINFO, and three Chinese databases, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang, and Weipu (VIP), from database inception to 19 February 2022. Review Methods: The quality of the included RCTs was evaluated using the Cochrane risk‐of‐bias tool and the data analysis was performed by using RevMan 5.4 and Stata 15. The outcomes were categorized into five aspects: dyadic relationship, overall quality of life (QOL), physical health, psychological health and social adjustment. Results: Nineteen RCTs were included. For patients' overall effects, couple‐based dyadic interventions can improve sexual frequency, psychological health (anxiety; depression; well‐being; body image) and social adjustment (family function‐cohesion; social function‐total). In the subgroup analysis, it can adjust patients' relationship satisfaction (>3 months), sexual frequency (>3 months), depression (<3 months and >3 months), well‐being (>3 months), and body image (3 months). For intimate partners, no statistically significant overall effects were found, and all results in the subgroup analyses showed no statistical significance. Conclusions: The results revealed the different effects of couple‐based dyadic interventions on dyads. It also suggested that tailored intervention duration should be a focus in future studies to obtain the potential actor‐partner benefits. Impact: This study revealed that the overall effects of the couple‐based dyadic interventions include enhancing patients' sexual frequency, psychological health and social adjustment. Aims: To evaluate the effectiveness of eHealth interventions to reduce stress and promote mental health in healthcare professionals, and to compare the efficacy of different types of programs (guided vs. self‐guided; 'third‐wave' psychotherapies vs. other types). Background: Healthcare workers present high levels of stress, which constitutes a risk factor for developing mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. eHealth interventions have been designed to reduce these professional's stress considering that the characteristics of this delivery method make it a cost‐effective and very appealing alternative because of its fast and easy access. Design: A systematic review of quantitative studies. Methods: A comprehensive database search for quantitative studies was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane (until 1 April 2022). The systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA and SWiM reporting guidelines. The quality of the studies was assessed using the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute tools. Results: The abstracts of 6349 articles were assessed and 60 underwent in‐depth review, with 27 fulfilling the inclusion criteria. The interventions were classified according to their format (self‐guided vs. guided) and contents ('third‐wave' psychotherapies vs. others). Twenty‐two interventions emerged, 13 of which produced significant posttreatment reductions in stress levels of health professionals (9 self‐guided, 8 'third wave' psychotherapies). Significant effects in improving depressive symptomatology, anxiety, burnout, resilience and mindfulness, amongst others, were also found. Conclusion: The evidence gathered in this review highlights the heterogeneity of the eHealth interventions that have been studied; self‐guided and 'third‐wave' psychotherapy programs are the most common, often with promising results, although the methodological shortcomings of most studies hinder the extraction of sound conclusions. Accessible summary This paper discusses the use of story telling (sometimes referred to as narrative) as a research method and how by doing this those volunteering to participate in this type of research might find it therapeutic. The paper considers the personal characteristics and skills of the mental health nurse and how these can be transferred from using them therapeutically in clinical practice to the research encounter and what the implications of doing this might be. The paper specifically looks at: •similarities between narrative research and therapy; • what might motivate people to participate in research; • what happens during story telling or narrative; • the importance of looking after the participant and self as a researcher; • the importance of ensuring it is the participant's voice that is heard. Narrative inquiry as a qualitative research method appears to be growing in popularity among mental health nurses. This paper argues that there are a number of parallels between narrative inquiry and psychotherapy, and mental health nurses familiar with the practice of therapeutic engagement need to be mindful of these when using this approach to research. The symbiotic relationship between those engaged in narrative inquiry and those engaged in psychotherapeutic practice is explored in order to provide greater understanding of some of the ethical issues involved and how new researchers, supervisors and practitioners might better respond to the complexities inherent in using narrative inquiry which may itself be therapeutic. Our focus for this paper is the tensions experienced by the mental health nurse while working as a researcher when the research encounter provides a trigger that would normally elicit a therapeutic response for both participant and nurse. Using a selection of psychoanalytic theories and principles this paper explores the relationship between the processes of psychotherapy and narrative inquiry. Background: Perinatal depression can result in short‐ and long‐term adverse effects for women and their children if untreated. Psychological interventions, the preferred treatment for most women with perinatal depression, can also be provided online. Aims: This study aimed to provide a comprehensive and systematic review of Internet‐based psychological interventions and to evaluate their effectiveness in the treatment of perinatal depression. Design: Systematic review and meta‐analysis. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted of six databases, including CINAHL, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library and PsycINFO. Depression and anxiety, which were the primary and secondary results of this search, were presented as standardised mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). This review was conducted according to the PRISMA checklist. Results: Thirteen studies involving 2158 perinatal women were included. Content, method, duration and frequency of Internet‐based psychological interventions were varied. Participants indicated a high rate of satisfaction with these interventions; participants' dropout rates ranged from 2.6% to 60.8%. Meta‐analysis demonstrated that Internet‐based psychological interventions improved perinatal depression (SMD = −0.72, CI = [−1.02, −0.42], p <.01) and anxiety symptoms (SMD = −0.52, CI = [−0.73, −0.30], p <.01), with heterogeneity of 86% and 59%, respectively. Conclusions: Internet‐based psychological interventions are considered as convenient and effective alternative treatment for perinatal depression and anxiety. In the future, additional studies are needed to investigate the long‐term effects of these interventions on the mental health of perinatal women and the effects on the growth and development of infants while controlling for the dropout rate. Relevance to clinical practice: Internet‐based psychological interventions are innovative approaches to improving perinatal depressive symptoms that can leverage mental health resources and improve accessibility while promoting multidisciplinary integration. Aims and objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness‐based interventions on psychological well‐being, burnout and post‐traumatic stress disorder symptoms among working registered nurses. Background: Nurses account for nearly half of the global healthcare workforce and are considered significant contributors in multi‐disciplinary healthcare teams. Yet, nurses face high levels of psychological distress, leading to burnout and post‐traumatic stress disorder. Mindfulness‐based training is a strategy that has been introduced to foster a state of awareness of present physical, emotional and cognitive experiences to regulate behaviour. Design: This systematic review of randomised controlled trials was designed according to PRISMA guidelines. Eligible studies were screened and extracted. Methodological quality was evaluated by two researchers, independently. RevMan 5.4 was used to conduct the meta‐analysis. Results: Fourteen studies including a total of 1077 nurses were included, of which only eleven were included in the meta‐analysis as the remaining had missing or incomplete data. Meta‐analysis revealed that MBI was more effective than passive comparators in reducing psychological distress, stress, depression and burnout—personal accomplishment. When compared to active comparators, MBI was also found to be more effective in reducing psychological distress and was as effective in reducing stress, anxiety, depression and burnout. Evidence on the effects of MBIs on PTSD was scarce. Conclusion: Mindfulness‐based interventions can effectively reduce psychological distress, stress, depression and some dimensions of burnout. However, evidence remains scarce in the literature. There is a need for more methodologically sound research on mindfulness‐based training among nurses. Relevance for clinical practice: An important aspect that relates to the success of mindfulness‐based interventions is the continued and dedicated individual practice of the skills taught during mindfulness training amidst demanding clinical work environments. Aims and objectives: To systematically evaluate the effectiveness of psychological interventions for women with breast cancer on sexual function, sexual satisfaction, sexual relationships, sexual distress and sexual quality of life. Background: Sexual dysfunction is common in women with breast cancer and seriously affects their quality of life and marital harmony. Several studies have explored the effects of psychological interventions related to sexual function of women with breast cancer, but results were inconclusive. Design: A systematic review and meta‐analysis based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Method: A search of PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, CINAHL, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global, ClinicalTrials.gov. and Open Grey was conducted from inception to 9 May 2021. Two reviewers independently screened studies, extracted data and conducted a quality appraisal of included studies using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal checklists. Results: Fifteen studies involving 1307 participants were included. The current study showed that psychological interventions made statistically significant improvements in sexual function (SMD = 0.82; 95% CI = [0.43, 1.20]; p <.001), sexual satisfaction (SMD = 0.95; 95% CI = [0.19, 1.72]; p =.01), sexual relationships (SMD = 0.37; 95% CI = [0.15, 0.60]; p =.001) and sexual distress (MD = −5.05; 95% CI = [−7.88, −2.22]; p =.0005) of women with breast cancer. A subgroup analysis regarding the types of psychological interventions indicated that cognitive behavioural therapy and psychoeducational therapy were beneficial to sexual function and satisfaction, and psychosexual counselling could also improve sexual function. Conclusion: Psychological interventions, especially psychoeducational therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy, are effective for improving the sexual health of women with breast cancer. Relevance to clinical practice: This current study provides evidence for the application of psychosexual interventions in women with breast cancer. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of psychological interventions in reducing fear of cancer recurrence in breast cancer survivors. Design: A systematic review and meta‐analysis. Data Sources: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CINAHL, Scopus, PsycINFO, Web of Science and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched for relevant studies published from 1 January 1976 to 28 November 2020. Methods: Eligible randomized controlled trials on psychological interventions for reducing fear of cancer recurrence in breast cancer survivors were included in meta‐analysis. Review Manager 5.4 was used to conduct the meta‐analysis, and the fear of cancer recurrence score was calculated by using standardized mean differences and 95% confidence intervals. Risk of bias was assessed with the Cochrane risk‐of‐bias tool. Quality of evidence, sensitivity analyses, and subgroup analyses were also conducted. Results: This systematic review included 16 randomized controlled trials. We found psychological interventions significantly reduced fear of cancer recurrence. Subgroup analyses indicated that mindfulness and acceptance therapy‐based interventions reduced fear of cancer recurrence, whereas cognitive‐behavioural therapy combined with psychoeducation did not. Interventions with three to eight sessions were effective, while interventions with nine or more sessions were not. Face‐to‐face interventions were effective, whereas online interventions were not. The quality of evidence for fear of cancer recurrence was evaluated as moderate due to moderate heterogeneity in the included studies. Conclusions: Psychological interventions were effective in reducing fear of cancer recurrence in breast cancer survivors. Mindfulness and acceptance therapy‐based interventions and short‐term interventions are recommended. Future well‐designed randomized controlled trials aiming to examine the effectiveness of psychological interventions in reducing fear of cancer recurrence are needed. Aims: To synthesize the effectiveness of web‐based psychosocial interventions on self‐efficacy, anxiety, depression, quality of life (QoL), non‐specific psychological and cancer‐specific distress among patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Design: A systematic review and meta‐analysis. Data sources Six databases (PubMed, PsycINFO, Embase, Scopus, CINAHL and CNKI) were searched from inception to December 2021. Review methods: Experimental/quasi‐experimental studies involving patients with CRC for the improvement of aforementioned outcomes were included. Two reviewers screened and extracted the data, and assessed studies' methodological quality using risk of bias tools. Meta‐analyses and narrative syntheses were performed. Results: Nineteen studies consisting of 1386 participants were identified. Cognitive‐behavioural therapy delivered online was the most common trialled web‐based psychosocial intervention. Meta‐analyses revealed no positive effect for self‐efficacy (standardized mean difference 0.93, 95% CI: 0.52 to 1.35, p <.01) and minimal benefit for QoL (mean difference [MD] 2.83, 95% CI: −0.31 to 5.98, p =.08) but significant positive effects for anxiety (MD −2.23, 95% CI: −3.31 to −1.14, p <.01) and depression (MD −2.84, 95% CI: −4.09 to −1.59, p <.01) among CRC survivors in the intervention group as compared with the control group. Narrative synthesis suggested possible benefits in reducing distress. Conclusion: Web‐based psychosocial interventions are promising alternatives to conventional delivery methods in reducing patients' anxiety, depression and distress. However, evidence on self‐efficacy and QoL remains inconsistent. More adequately powered, well‐designed trials with targeted and theory‐based interventions are required to ascertain findings. Impact By highlighting the potential of web‐based psychosocial interventions in reducing anxiety and depression among CRC survivors, this review has put forth beneficial information supporting the use and acceptance of web‐based care delivery in light of COVID‐19 restrictions and nationwide lockdowns. Meanwhile, the paucity of empirical support reflects the necessity of more extensive research to test and improve other health outcomes. Aims: Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) are highly prevalent among persons with mild cognitive impairment (PwMCI). However, the mainstay of treatments only focuses on cognitive training. This study develops an empowerment-psycho-behavioural programme to improve the NPS and other health outcomes of this preclinical cohort. The empirical effects and the participants' perception and experience of the programme will be explored. Design: This sequential mixed-method study comprises a single-blind randomized controlled trial and a qualitative study. Methods: This study will recruit 250 PwMCI from the community and randomize them to either the intervention group to receive a 13-week empowerment-psycho-behavioural programme which focuses on promoting cognitive coping and stress adaptation, or the control group to receive a health education programme which serves as an attention placebo with content unrelated to dementia. The primary outcome is NPS, and the secondary outcomes include cognitive function, subjective memory complaints and health-related quality of life. These outcomes will be measured at baseline, upon completing the programme and 4 weeks thereafter. A purposive sample of 30 participants from the intervention group will be interviewed for their engagement experience in the programme. This study received funding support in July 2020. Discussion: Given the high prevalence and detrimental effects of NPS on disease progression, effective management is yet to be determined. Underpinned by the Progressively Lowered Stress Threshold (PLST) Model, the empowerment-psycho-behavioural programme is designed. Results on the outcome-based evaluation and the patients' experience can advance the science in this under-addressed area. Impact: This study enhances our understanding of the PLST Model in explaining the manifestations of NPS by the stress-coping disequilibrium at the early disease stage. Aims: To systematically identify the application of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy among parents of children with chronic health conditions and determine its effectiveness in parental psychological flexibility, psychological distress and parenting behaviour. Design: Systematic review. Data sources: Nine databases (i.e. MEDLINE, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PsychINFO, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and WanFang Data) were systematically searched from inception to October 2019. Review Methods: Quality of studies was appraised by using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal checklist. Findings were synthesized narratively. This work was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analysis statement. Results: Eight studies involving 485 parents were included. Results indicated that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy significantly improved parental psychological flexibility and reduced psychological distress compared with usual care and waitlist, but was not significantly different from active treatments. Limited studies have provided very preliminary evidence that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy can significantly improve dysfunctional parenting behaviour than usual care and waitlist. High attrition rate at follow‐up made the overall confidence of maintained effect relatively low. Conclusion: This review provides preliminary evidence that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is beneficial for improving psychological flexibility, psychological distress and parenting behaviour among parents of children with chronic health conditions. Future studies with rigorous designs and large sample sizes are warranted to verify the evidence and explore its long‐term efficacy. Impact: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy has been increasingly applied to parents of children with chronic health conditions. This review provides positive evidence of its effects on psychological and behavioural outcomes among these parents. Aim: To systematically evaluate the effect of intensive care unit diary psychotherapy on the incidence of posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression after discharge from intensive care unit. Background: Many studies have reported the potential advantages and risks of intensive care unit diary psychotherapy in adult patients discharged from intensive care unit, but the results are divergent. Design: Systematic review and meta‐analysis of prospective randomized controlled or case‐controlled studies. Data source: Databases such as Cochran Library, Pubmed, Embase, CINAHL, and ProQuest databases, China national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI) were searched for literatures published from January 2000–March 2020. Review methods: We use the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool for quality assessment and audit manager 5.3 software for meta‐analysis. The main result is the incidence of posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression. Results: Ten studies meeting the inclusion criteria were identified, including eight randomized controlled studies and two case‐controlled studies, with a total of 1,210 patients. The pooled results of this meta‐analysis indicated that the intensive care unit diary could reduce the incidence of posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression. Conclusion: This study showed that an intensive care unit diary could improve the psychological symptoms of adult intensive care unit patients after discharge. However, due to limitations such as publication bias and case sample size, the results should be carefully considered. Researchers need to further clarify the multidisciplinary collaborative process of intensive care unit diary therapy, the real beneficiaries, and its impact on family members' psychological status by conducting large, robust studies in the future. Impact: This study's findings suggest that medical staff need to re‐examine the role of intensive care unit diary therapy, its standardized implementation and provide effective intervention for reducing psychological stress‐related symptoms of intensive care unit patients after discharge. Aims and objectives: To investigate the effect of a short‐term Balint group on the improvement in communication ability and self‐efficacy of pre‐examination and triage nurses during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19). Background: Working on the front lines of COVID‐19 has brought unprecedented psychological stress on pre‐examination and triage nurses. Nurse–patient communication ability and the level of self‐efficacy are both significant for nurses' psychosomatic health and work input. However, limited empirical evidence exists regarding nurse–patient communication and self‐efficacy and specific psychological intervention effects. Design: Cross‐sectional research fulfilling the completed checklist of items that should be included in reports of cross‐sectional studies (Appendix S1). Methods: Nurses (n = 41) in the first layer of pre‐examination and triage were engaged in a Balint group activity twice a week for two weeks. They were assessed with the General Self‐Efficacy Scale (GSES) pre‐ and postintervention, and a nurse–patient communication survey form was developed for further postintervention evaluation. The sample was recruited from a class A third‐grade hospital in Sichuan, China. Results: Most of the subjects reported improvement in nurse–patient communication, increased cooperation between patients and their families, and a decreased missed examination rate after the intervention. Moreover, the total mean score of the GSES of nurses after the intervention was increased, but the difference was not statistically significant. The scores of all items in the GSES were improved, and the scores increase for item 4 (I am confident that I can effectively deal with any unexpected event) was statistically significant. Conclusions: During the COVID‐19 pandemic, a short‐term Balint group activity can improve the communication ability and self‐efficacy level of front‐line nurses to some extent. Relevance to clinical practice: This information may provide some theoretical support for the development of early psychological interventions during major epidemic situations. Aims and objectives: This study aimed to explore the experiences of liver transplant recipients during their journey through the treatment and their need for psychotherapeutic support related to this process. Background: Over time, measures of survival and quality of life in liver transplant recipients have continued to improve but their emotional needs remain under explored. In the longer‐term recovery from transplantation, the focus shifts from physical health to psychological health. In the UK, there are no known embedded adult psychological services in liver transplant centres to react to this need. Design: A qualitative descriptive design was used. Methods: Grounded theory analysis was used to study the narratives of six adult liver transplant recipients. Through a process of coding, conceptual categories were established to describe the participant experiences. The study adhered to the EQUATOR checklist, SRQR. Results: Four categories emerged that were related to the experience of liver transplantation for the recipients. These were a process of adjustment, the phenomenon of waiting, liver transplant as a transformative experience and on the value of support. The participants identified a lack of psychotherapeutic support provided by the liver transplant service and felt that an embedded psychotherapeutic service would promote accessing such support during challenging times. Conclusion: Through the process of liver transplantation, recipients experience challenges with adjustment, waiting, feeling transformed and they value support with these feelings. In correlation with other studies, the findings of this study highlight the need for providing psychotherapeutic support within liver transplant services. Relevance to clinical practice: The study provides evidence to support recommendations for a conjoined psychotherapy service within liver transplant services to support patients with their holistic needs. Aims and objectives: To explore therapists’ discourses on treatment processes, when working with pregnant substance abusers in voluntary and coercive treatment, and looking for the clinical implications of these discourses. Background: Treatment of substance use disorder faces many challenges. One is pregnancy and motherhood, which are vulnerable and complex processes. The literature emphasises lack of optimal and knowledge‐based treatment for this group. Design: The study follows a Foucauldian inspired discourse analysis. Method: Forty therapists from four different residential units in Norway, offering both voluntary and coercive treatment of pregnant women with substance use disorders, were interviewed in focus groups. The semi‐structured interview schedule focused on exploring how therapists’ discourses on change processes and relationship experiences informed their clinical practice. Results: How to start “healthy” attachment processes between the pregnant woman and the unborn child was the dominant discourse among the therapists. Another important theme was coercion, and whether that as a contextual frame was negative or positive in creating attachment between mother and child. Other discourses were varieties of understanding attachment when the mothers had difficulties with substance abuse, the mothers’ own attachment histories, and social and cultural challenges. Conclusion: Systematic work with attachment issues between the pregnant woman and her unborn child was the dominant perspective of nearly all the therapists. The contextual factors in the lives of the women were less prioritised, even though they are of decisive importance for the relationship between mother and child. Relevance to clinical practice: Treatment professionals need to focus more on the discursive dilemmas encountered in the relation between substance use disorders and the unborn child. The article focuses on the impacts of neuropsychological deficits in remitted depression on long-term functioning of an individual, quality of life, and risk for relapse. Aim The aim of this study was to explore emotion cultures constructed in supervision and consider how supervision functions as an emotionally safe space promoting critical reflection. Background Research published between 1995-2015 suggests supervision has a positive impact on nurses' emotional well-being, but there is little understanding of the processes involved in this and how styles of emotion interaction are established in supervision. Design A narrative approach was used to investigate mental health nurses' understandings and experiences of supervision. Methods Eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with community mental health nurses in the UK during 2011. Analysis of audio data used features of speech to identify narrative discourse and illuminate meanings. A topic-centred analysis of interview narratives explored discourses shared between the participants. This supported the identification of feeling rules in participants' narratives and the exploration of the emotion context of supervision. Findings Effective supervision was associated with three feeling rules: safety and reflexivity; staying professional; managing feelings. These feeling rules allowed the expression and exploration of emotions, promoting critical reflection. A contrast was identified between the emotion culture of supervision and the nurses' experience of their workplace cultures as requiring the suppression of difficult emotions. Despite this, contrast supervision functioned as an emotion micro-culture with its own distinctive feeling rules. Conclusions The analytical construct of feeling rules allows us to connect individual emotional experiences to shared normative discourses, highlighting how these shape emotional processes taking place in supervision. This understanding supports an explanation of how supervision may positively influence nurses' emotion management and perhaps reduce burnout. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
