Simple Summary: In recent years, the shortage of cow stocks and the reduction of cow breeders in China have caused a shortage of cattle resources and a high price of calves, which has become a bottleneck restricting the further development of China's beef cattle industry. At present, there are few studies on the decision-making behavior of cow breeding in China. In order to explore the factors that affect the decision-making behavior on cow breeding by beef cattle farmers, this paper uses field survey data to make an empirical analysis through the Logit ISM model. The results show that the age of the breeder, the breeding year, the planting area of forage, market expectations, the loan amount, the breeding method policy publicity and policy subsidies are significant factors affecting the decision-making behavior of beef cattle farmers on cow breeding. The beef cattle industry is an important part of herbivorous animal husbandry and an important industry to enrich the dietary structure of residents and promote the income of farmers and herdsmen. The cow is an important foundation to support the healthy development of the beef cattle industry, which is related to the stability of cattle sources and the sustainable development of the industry. However, in recent years, the shortage of cows in our country has led to the shortage of cattle resources and the high price of calves, which has restricted the further development of our beef cattle industry. In order to explore the factors that affect the decision-making behavior behind cow breeding and to find the right policy to mobilize the enthusiasm for cow breeding, based on the field survey of five provinces (cities and regions), including Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, this paper conducts an empirical analysis through the Logit ISM model. The results show that market expectation is the surface factor that directly affects the decision-making behavior of cow breeding. The influencing factors of the middle layer are policy propaganda, policy subsidies, breeding years, and feeding methods. The deep root factors are the age of the breeder, the amount of loan, and whether to plant feed crops. Based on this, this paper proposes that we should actively promote the importance of cow breeding, strengthen policy support for cow breeding, formulate scientific and reasonable subsidy policies for cows, innovate financial support methods to solve the problem of fund shortage of farmers, and develop forage resources and reduce the breeding cost of cows. The desert–oasis interaction zone plays a crucial role in safeguarding oasis ecological security and maintaining stability within oases. This paper proposed a framework of EN-DSS, based on long-term remote sensing data and fundamental data, adopted morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA) and Linkage Mapper among other methods, and it took Lingwu City in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, which is located in the desert–oasis interaction zone in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, as a case study. The results indicate the following: since 1995, this desert–oasis system has exhibited the characteristics whereby the oasis is expanding eastward and the desert is significantly receding. The vegetation coverage has improved overall, forming an ecological security pattern characterized predominantly by shrub forests, which is referred to as the "one core, two corridors, three zones, and multiple clusters" pattern. This pattern has significantly reduced the risk of wind and sand erosion in the agricultural irrigation areas along the Yellow River. However, the construction of this ecological security pattern still faces challenges, including high construction and maintenance costs and the need to enhance the network's quality. In the future, it will be necessary to strengthen the integrated ecological network construction of ecological areas, agricultural areas, and urban areas to enhance the stability of this regional ecological network system. Landslides pose significant and serious geological threat disasters worldwide, threatening human lives and property; China is particularly susceptible to these disasters. This paper focuses on Pengyang County, which is situated in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of China, an area prone to landslides. This study investigated the application of machine learning techniques for analyzing landslide susceptibility. To construct and validate the model, we initially compiled a landslide inventory comprising 972 historical landslides and an equivalent number of non-landslide sites (Data sourced from the Pengyang County Department of Natural Resources). To ensure an impartial evaluation, both the landslide and non-landslide datasets were randomly divided into two sets using a 70/30 ratio. Next, we extracted 15 landslide conditioning factors, including the slope angle, elevation, profile curvature, plan curvature, slope aspect, TWI (topographic wetness index), TPI (topographic position index), distance to roads and rivers, NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index), rainfall, land use, lithology, SPI (stream power index), and STI (sediment transport index), from the spatial database. Subsequently, a correlation analysis between the conditioning factors and landslide occurrences was conducted using the certainty factor (CF) method. Three landslide models were established by employing logistic regression (LR), functional trees (FTs), and random subspace functional trees (RSFTs) algorithms. The landslide susceptibility map was categorized into five levels: very low, low, medium, high, and very high susceptibility. Finally, the predictive capability of the three algorithms was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). The better the prediction, the higher the AUC value. The results indicate that all three models are predictive and practical, with only minor discrepancies in accuracy. The integrated model (RSFT) displayed the highest predictive performance, achieving an AUC value of 0.844 for the training dataset and 0.837 for the validation dataset. This was followed by the LR model (0.811 for the training dataset and 0.814 for the validation dataset) and the FT model (0.776 for the training dataset and 0.760 for the validation dataset). The proposed methods and resulting landslide susceptibility map can assist researchers and local authorities in making informed decisions for future geohazard prevention and mitigation. The coordinated development of rural infrastructure and ecological environment is an effective way to improve agricultural productivity. The primary focus of the current research is how the two can work together to promote regional economic development in rural areas and in related fields. This study takes the western region as the research object, constructs an evaluation index system for rural infrastructure and ecological environment, and uses the Min-max Scaling method, coupling coordination model, gray GM (1, 1) model, and standard deviation elliptical model for evaluation. The trends and driving factors for the coordinated development of rural infrastructure and ecological coupling in the region from 2012 to 2021 are analyzed. The main results are as follows: (1) Except for Tibet, Qinghai, and Ningxia, the coupling degree of rural infrastructure and the ecological environment in western China reached the maximum level during the research period, also the coordination degree showed a gradual upward trend. (2) A prediction for the development and evolution of rural infrastructure and the ecological environment in western China indicates a trend of agglomerative development in the southern region. (3) By strengthening the construction of reservoirs, improving sanitary conditions, improving cultivated land use area and forest coverage, and controlling soil erosion, the coordinated development of the two can be effectively promoted. Lycium barbarum has rich medicinal value and is an important medicinal and economic tree species in China, with an annual output value of 21 billion RMB. The yield and the quality of Lycium barbarum dry fruit are the crucial issues that affect the cultivation of Lycium barbarum and the income of farmers in the Ningxia water shortage area. According to the local acquisition standard of Lycium barbarum, the amount of dry fruit per 50 g (ADF-50) is the key factor in evaluating the quality and determining the purchase price. In order to optimize the irrigation lower limit of automatic drip irrigation system with multiple objectives, the yield and ADF-50 are selected to be optimal objectives. The lower irrigation limits of the automatic drip irrigation system in the full flowering stage, the summer fruiting stage, and the early autumn fruiting stage are optimized by the third generation of non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-III) in this paper. The mathematical relationships between irrigation lower limit and irrigation quantity, irrigation amount, yield, and ADF-50 were established by the water balance model, water production function (WPF), and artificial neural network model (ANN), respectively. The accuracy of the water balance model and ANN were verified by experiments. The experiments and optimization results show that: (1) irrigation quantity and ADF-50 calculated by the water balance model and ANN are accurate, and their Nash–Sutcliffe coefficient are 0.83 and 0.66; (2) In a certain range of irrigation quantity, ADF-50 and Lycium barbarum yield show competitive relation. By solving the NSGA-III optimization model, the lower irrigation limits schemes, which tend to different objectives, and a compromise scheme can be obtained; (3) Compared with the original lower limit of irrigation water, the compromise scheme's yield and quality of Lycium barbarum are improved 10.7% and 8.8% respectively. The results show that the automatic drip irrigation system's lower irrigation limit scheme optimized by the model can improve not only the yield but also the quality of Lycium barbarum. In order to alleviate global warming and the energy crisis, it is of great significance to develop and utilize solar energy resources. Sunshine duration (SD) is considered to be the best substitute for solar radiation and a key factor in evaluating solar energy resources. Therefore, the spatial and temporal characteristics of SD and the reasons for its changes have received extensive attention and discussion. Based on the data of 415 meteorological stations from 1970 to 2019, this paper uses linear trend analysis, Mann–Kendall mutation analysis, the Hurst index, empirical orthogonal decomposition, correlation analysis and partial correlation analysis to analyze the spatiotemporal characteristics of SD and its relationship with influencing factors. The results show that the annual SD in China shows a downward trend, with a climate trend rate of −37.93 h/10a, and a significant decline from 1982 to 2019. The seasonal SD shows a downward trend, and the downward trend is most obvious in summer. The annual and seasonal SD will still show a downward trend in the future. The spatial distribution of SD not only has an overall consistent distribution but also takes the Yellow River from Ningxia to Shandong as the boundary, showing a north–south opposite distribution. Annual SD has a significant positive correlation, a significant negative correlation, a positive correlation and a negative correlation with wind speed, precipitation, temperature and relative humidity, respectively, and it is most closely related to wind speed and precipitation. Consolidating and expanding the achievements of poverty alleviation, and effectively connecting it with rural revitalization, are part of an important path to achieving sustainable poverty alleviation and common prosperity in China, especially in its northwest arid areas. In this paper, the human–earth system was employed to analyze the elemental composition, structural organization, and functional state of China's northwest arid areas. The results revealed the following: (1) poverty in northwest arid areas stems from the lack of a coupling and coordinating mechanism among humans, the economy, resources, and environmental elements; this is not conducive to transforming ecological advantages into regional development. (2) In the antipoverty stage, China's northwest arid areas innovate human–earth coupling and a coordinating mechanism through a series of targeted measures. (3) We found that three paths, namely "promoting the integration of featured advantageous industries and tourism culture, innovating the realization path according to local conditions, and paying attention to the subjectivity of farmers" broaden the means of sustainable livelihood, consolidate the achievements of poverty alleviation, and achieve rural revitalization. (4) In particular, it is necessary to practice the concept of green development and pursue ecological industrialization by establishing a policy system of green land-people-industry-right, thus building an endogenous growth mechanism of sustainable poverty alleviation and green development in China's northwest arid areas. The results provide theoretical support and model reference for the effective connection between consolidating and expanding the key achievements of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization in China's northwest arid areas. Water vapor adsorption on soil, a crucial non-rainfall water resource in arid regions, warrants further experimental investigation, particularly on two typical land surfaces: bare soil and gravel. This study examined the formation characteristics and influencing factors of vapor adsorption in an arid region of Northwestern China. Observations and analyses were conducted on adsorption and evaporation measurements taken by two small weighing lysimeters (SLSs); soil temperature at a depth of 5 cm; surface temperature; relative humidity; and air temperature at a height of 30 cm above the ground from 2019 to 2020. The adsorbed water in this area was more abundant at night and less abundant during the day, with a stable nightly adsorption rate of 0.013 mm/h. Adsorption was more frequent in spring and winter (from January to June and November to December), accounting for about 90% of the total annual adsorption. In 2019 and 2020, the ratio values of adsorption to evaporation were 0.16 and 0.10 for bare soil, and 0.10 and 0.12 for gravel, respectively. Adsorption was more likely to occur when the soil moisture content was less than 13%; the highest adsorption frequency was close to 20% when the RH was between 75 and 95%; low soil temperatures were more conducive to the occurrence of adsorption. The effect of temperature differences (Ta−Ts) on adsorption was stronger than that of relative humidity. The adsorption frequency generally showed a bimodal change with increasing temperature difference, but the effect of temperature differences was less effective for gravel than bare soil. When the relative humidity was high and the temperature difference was weakly positive, the maximum adsorption intensity could reach 0.18 mm/h. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Subsurface pipe drainage (SPD) is an important technique for the improvement of saline–alkali lands in China. Winter irrigation after crop harvest is a key measure used in the Yellow River irrigation area in northwest China to reduce soil salinity in the root zone of crops. To optimize winter irrigation under SPD, the calibrated HYDRUS-2D model was utilized in this study to investigate the effects of soil texture (clay loam, silt loam, loam, and sandy loam), initial soil salinity (1, 3, 5 g/kg), and the winter irrigation quotas (80, 100, 120, 150, 180 mm) on the rate of soil desalination. In this study, soil salinity levels during the stable production of common crops such as sunflower and corn in the Yinbei Irrigation District in Ningxia, China, were taken as the thresholds, efficient utilization of irrigation water was considered, and suitable crops and appropriate winter irrigation quotas for different soil textures and levels of soil salinity were proposed. Soil with a salt content of 1~3 g/kg is suitable for the planting of corn with 80 mm of irrigation water. Sandy loam soil with a salt content of 3~5 g/kg is suitable for sunflower–corn intercropping with 120 mm of irrigation water. Sandy loam soil with a salt content exceeding 5 g/kg is suitable for the planting of sunflower with 80 mm of irrigation water. Other types of soils need to be improved by reducing the spacing between subsurface pipes, using desulfurized gypsum, biochar, and other additives. People engaged in agriculture can utilize this research to determine the appropriate volumes of irrigation water, crop types, planting systems, and subsurface pipe parameters based on local conditions. The Miboshan Formation in the Middle Ordovician plays a crucial role in the sedimentary evolution of the western margin of the Ordos Basin as it represents the transition from a carbonate platform to a deep-water slope-basin environment. This study focuses on the paleoenvironment of claystone in the Middle Ordovician Miboshan Formation, located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of the Ordos Basin. The study aims to analyze the influence of sea level and salinity on rare earth elements, investigate terrigenous input and redox conditions through trace element analysis, and exemplify the coupling relationship between depositional and tectonic environments. The Miboshan Formation profile consists of thick- to thin-bedded limestones, mainly composed of lenticular calcirudite with erosion surfaces and horizontal laminae. Grayish black claystone have deformation structures and graptolite fossils. Based on the total number of rare earth elements and the trace element indexes, the seawater properties, redox degree, and terrigenous input are located in two data sets in different parts of the profile (i.e., sample 6-1 to 6-5: Concentrated in lower part, and samples 6-6 to 6-8: Concentrated in upper part), implying that they were deposited at different subaqueous uplifts. Negative Ce anomalies, La/Ce, V/Cr, and Fe3+/Fe2+ ratios indicate an anoxic condition with stratified redox structure, whereas characteristic LaN/NdN, Y/Ho, and Sr/Ba suggest deep-water affected by fresh water. The ∑REEs and Th/U ratios indicated that the study area was mainly deposited from terrigenous materials in the stable tectonic area. According to the ages of deposition, lithologic analyses, and chemical parameters, the Miboshan Formation is related to the deep water environment in a ponded basin influenced by subaqueous uplift resulting from plate subduction in an active continental margin. In order to advance the utilization rate of multi-source solid wastes in the Ningxia region of China, 16 groups of pavement base mixtures were designed with cement and fly ash (FA) as binders, steel slag (SS), silicon manganese slag (SMS), and recycled crushed stone (RCS) as composite aggregates. The evolution laws of mechanical and frost resistance properties of the mixture were investigated by unconfined compressive strength (UCS), indirect tensile strength (ITS), freeze–thaw (FT), and ultrasonic detection tests. Then, the strength formation mechanisms were revealed by microscopic characterization technology. The mathematical models between UCS-ITS, UCS-ultrasonic amplitude, FT cycles-UCS damage, and frost resistance coefficient-relative dynamic elastic modulus Er were established. The results show that cement content and curing age exhibited a positive effect on the mechanical strength and frost resistance of the mixture. When the replacement rate of SS was 60%, the mechanical strength and frost resistance were preferable. The R2 of the strength relationship models constructed was greater than 0.9, indicating high fitting accuracy. With the extension of the curing age, the cementitious products such as C-S-H (hydrated calcium silicate) and AFt (ettringite) developed entirely, and they were interlocked and cemented with each other, resulting in the micro-morphology developed from the three-dimensional network structure to the dense system. The GaoFen-14 satellite is primarily utilized for global high-precision positioning and generating 1:10,000 scale geographic information products, making it one of the most accurate stereo mapping satellites in China. With a long-stitched CCD (charge couple device) consisting of nine chips for the forward view camera and six chips for the backward view camera, it is crucial to validate the satellite's geometric performance and achieve high uncontrolled global positioning precision. In this study, two calibration models were proposed for the on-orbit calibration of the GaoFen-14 satellite: one accounting for the inter-chip geometry constraint and another without the constraint. Correspondingly, five calibration schemes (A, B, C, D, and E) were designed, with varying settings of the external calibration parameters, interior parameters, and utilization of the optical axis measurement data. Schemes A and B utilized the same set of alignment angles for the forward and backward images and differed in the set of interior calibration parameters. Scheme A took a single set of interior calibration parameters for all chips within the same view, while Scheme B set independent interior calibration parameters for each chip in both the forward and backward views considering the inter-chip geometry constraint. Schemes C, D, and E set two groups of alignment angles for the forward and backward views, respectively. In addition, Schemes C, D, and E utilized GaoFen-14′s specific real-time recording data of the optical axis, incorporating a slight revision of the alignment angle calibration value using dichotomous search. The interior models of Schemes A and C were identical, and those of Schemes B and D were the same. In comparison with scheme D, scheme E only lacks the inter-chip geometry constraint. These five schemes were taken to validate the most suitable exterior model and interior model for the GaoFen-14 satellite. Calibration experiments were conducted using original multichip images and the stitched images from the Zhongwei, Ningxia, and Songshan (Henan) test fields. Additionally, four sets of data from around the world are used to verify the calibration effect. The results demonstrated significant improvements in uncontrolled positioning accuracy for all five calibration schemes, transitioning from the 100 m level to the meter or even the submeter level. However, Schemes A and B exhibited unstable controlled positioning accuracy, with fluctuations ranging from 1 m to 5 m. In contrast, Schemes C, D, and E achieved substantial enhancements in uncontrolled positioning accuracy, maintaining stability with variations ranging from 0.94 to 1.14 m in the X direction, 0.41 to 0.48 m in the Y direction, and 0.77 to 0.81 m in the Z direction. The positions of the CCD probes obtained from Schemes C and D demonstrated consistency, with over 80% of the probes falling within 0.1 pixels, and all of the sampled probes within 0.3 pixels. However, Scheme D behaves better in describing the geometric deformation of each CCD chip and keeping the integrity of the long-stitched CCD simultaneously. These experimental results validate the GaoFen-14 satellite's ability to achieve stable uncontrolled positioning accuracy worldwide and a stable geometric structure between multichips. For the GaoFen-14 satellite, it is more appropriate to adopt two sets of alignment angles for the forward and backward views, respectively. Based on monthly precipitation (P), temperature (T) data, and remote sensing images collected from March 2000 to February 2019, this article was constructed to reveal the synergistic effect between P and T for the NDVI in northern China qualitatively and quantitatively by using a one-variable linear regression, the coefficient of variation, multivariate correlation coefficients, and a geodetector. The results show that the NDVI in the study area decreased from 2000 to 2012, increased from 2013 to 2018, decreased in the west, and increased in the east of Northern China. Overall, the NDVI, P, and the average maximum temperature (Tmax) had the strongest multivariate correlations (approximately 43.4% of the total study area passed the 95% confidence level significance test), followed by the average temperature (Tave) and average minimum temperature (Tmin). The explanatory power of the synergistic effect between P and Tmax for the NDVI was the strongest, with the value of explanatory power varying from 0.41 to 0.81, followed by Tave and Tmin. Spatially, the explanatory power of the synergistic effect between P and T for the NDVI was strengthened overall in the study area from northwest to southeast. The annual change rate of the explanatory power showed that the overall explanatory power between P and T for the NDVI in the study area was weakened in the central area and strengthened in the east and the west. Specifically, the synergistic effect between P and T on the NDVI was weakened in both Shaanxi and Ningxia Huizu Zizhiqu, while the opposite occurred in Xinjiang Uygul Zizhiqu, Qinghai, and another five provinces in the eastern part of the study area. Simple Summary: The predation and/or dispersal of Quercus seeds by rodents play an important role in the creation of the tree species. Using the tagging method, we measured the effects of density, storage method, and seed size on rodents' predation and dispersal behavior. We found that seed survival had a significant negative density-dependent effect; that litter cover and soil burial increased seed in situ time and survival; that in situ feeding rates were significantly higher for small seeds than for large seeds; and that large seeds fed significantly further after dispersal than small seeds. These findings provide insights into the ecological characteristics of Quercus tree regeneration and shed light on the coexistence between rodents and different-sized seeds. The predation and/or dispersal of Quercus seeds by rodents play an important role in the creation of the tree species. The present study examined the effects of community habitats on the predation and dispersal of Quercus wutaishanica seeds by rodents. We released seeds with densities set at 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 seed square meter with litter cover, soil burial, and bare ground in the Liupan Mountains National Nature Reserve in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, northwest China. The results showed that (1) the litter cover and soil burial significantly increased the seed survival probability compared with bare ground treatments, especially the predation in situ (PIS) (p < 0.05). Both the scatter hoarding (SH) and larder hoarding (LH) for litter cover and soil burial were significantly increased compared with bare ground (p < 0.05). (2) The large seeds are preferentially predated after dispersal and their long-distance dispersal (>5 m) was significantly greater than that of small seeds (p < 0.05), while small seeds are more likely to be preyed on in situ or during short-distance dispersal (<3 m). (3) The Q. wutaishanica seed predation by rodents increased at a high density rather than at a low density, indicating a negative density-dependent predation. The accurate prediction of surface subsidence induced by coal mining is critical to safeguarding the environment and resources. However, the precision of current prediction models is often restricted by the lack of pertinent data or imprecise model parameters. To overcome these limitations, this study proposes an approach to predicting mine subsidence that leverages Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology and the long short-term memory network (LSTM). The proposed approach utilizes small baseline multiple-master high-coherent target (SBMHCT) interferometric synthetic aperture radar technology to monitor the mine surface and applies the long short-term memory (LSTM) algorithm to construct the prediction model. The Shigouyi coalfield in Ningxia Province, China was chosen as a study area, and time series ground subsidence data were obtained based on Sentinel-1A data from 9 March 2015 to 7 June 2016. To evaluate the proposed approach, the prediction accuracies of LSTM and Support Vector Regression (SVR) were compared. The results show that the proposed approach could accurately predict mine subsidence, with maximum absolute errors of less than 2 cm and maximum relative errors of less than 6%. The Mu Us dune field is one of China's four major dune fields, which are ecologically vulnerable areas of northwest semiarid land across Shaanxi, Ningxia, and Inner Mongolia, also very sensitive to the global temperature rise and environmental changes. This paper uses data on the temperature, precipitation, and precipitable water vapor (PWV) in the Mu Us dune field and its surrounding areas to analyze and discuss the time series and spatial distribution characteristics of these three factors in this area. The results of the study show that, in recent years, the trend of temperature increase in the Mu Us dune field has been higher than the average level in China, but this trend has gradually subsided since 2000. The spatial distribution of temperature presents an obvious characteristic of gradual increase from north to south and is affected by latitude, altitude, and topography. The annual cumulative precipitation of the Mu Us dune field is lower than the average level in China. However, in recent years, the rate of the increase in precipitation in this area has been significantly higher than that of the average rate of increase in China. The eastern part of the dune field has the most precipitation, which gradually decreases to the west. The spatial distribution of precipitation is greatly affected by monsoon factors in the region and the distribution of rivers. In the research field, PWV has been rising in recent years, which is greatly related to the increase of vegetation coverage in this region. The Shapotou National Nature Reserve in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is a typical arid region in China. There is an exceptionally serious problem of surface water resource conservation, and dynamic monitoring of surface water with the help of water indices can help to elucidate its change patterns and impact mechanisms. Here, we analysed the characteristics of interannual variation in surface water area in the study area from 1992–2021. The correlation coefficients of the surface water area in the previous year and the contemporaneous water bodies of the Yellow River with the total surface water area (TSWA) were calculated. The results show the following: ① In terms of the classification accuracy of the two methods, water indices and support vector machine classification, water indices are more suitable for water body extraction in the study area. In particular, the three water indices, NDWI, MNDWI and AWEIsh, were more effective, with average overall accuracies of 90.38%, 90.33% and 90.36% over the 30-year period, respectively. ② From the TSWA extraction results from the last 30 years, the TSWA showed an increasing trend with an increase of 368.28 hm2. Among the areas, Tenggeli Lake contributed the most to the increase in TSWA. ③ The highest correlation between the TSWA and the previous year's TSWA was 0.89, indicating that the better way to protect the water body is to maintain water surface stability year-round. The surface water area of the Yellow River and TSWA also showed a strong correlation, indicating that the rational use of Yellow River water is also an important direction for the future conservation of water resources in the study area. To elucidate the effects of the different terroir on wine aroma in six sub-regions of Eastern Foothills of Helan Mountain in Ningxia, a premium wine-producing region in China, 71 Cabernet Sauvignon wines were investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), check-all-that-apply (CATA), and quantitative descriptive analysis (QDA). The bidirectional orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis (O2PLS-DA) results showed that the Cabernet Sauvignon dry red wines from Xixia (XX) and Yongning (YN) had similar volatile profiles due to their geographical proximity and were characterized by higher concentrations of esters, higher alcohols, and volatile phenols because the similar aromatic profiles were detected in their dry red wines. Shizuishan (SZS) and Hongsipu (HSP) wines showed clear differences compared to the wines of the other four sub-regions, being mainly characterized by relatively higher phenolic aldehydes and volatile phenols. The concentrations of methoxypyrazines and norisoprenoids varied mainly depending on the climate diversity of the sub-regions. The highest 3-isobutyl-2-methoxypyrazine (IBMP) concentration was presented in the Helan (HL) wines. The Qingtongxia (QTX) wines have the highest β-damascenone, which might be influenced by the fact that QTX has the lowest effective accumulated temperature and the highest sunshine duration among the five sub-regions. Esters including ethyl octanoate, ethyl decanoate, ethyl butanoate, ethyl hexanoate, and isoamyl acetate were the highest in HL. Sophora alopecuroides L. has great medicinal and ecological value in northwestern China. The host and its microbiota are mutually symbiotic, collectively forming a holobiont, conferring beneficial effects to the plant. However, the analysis of diversity, mycobiota composition, and the ecological function of endophytic fungi in the holobiont of S. alopecuroides is relatively lacking. In this article, the fungal community profiling of roots, stems, leaves, and seeds of S. alopecuroides (at the fruit maturity stage) from Huamachi and Baofeng in Ningxia, China were investigated based on the ITS1 region, using high-throughput sequencing technology. As a result, a total of 751 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were obtained and further classified into 9 phyla, 27 classes, 66 orders, 141 families, 245 genera, and 340 species. The roots had the highest fungal richness and diversity, while the stems had the highest evenness and pedigree diversity. There also was a significant difference in the richness of the endophytic fungal community between root and seed (p < 0.05). The organ was the main factor affecting the community structure of endophytic fungi in S. alopecuroides. The genera of unclassified Ascomycota, Tricholoma, Apiotrichum, Alternaria, and Aspergillus made up the vast majority of relative abundance, which were common in all four organs as well. The dominant and endemic genera and biomarkers of endophytic fungi in four organs of S. alopecuroides were different and exhibited organ specificity or tissue preference. The endophytic fungi of S. alopecuroides were mainly divided into 15 ecological function groups, among which saprotroph was absolutely dominant, followed by mixotrophic and pathotroph, and the symbiotroph was the least. With this study, we revealed the diversity and community structure and predicted the ecological function of the endophytic fungi of S. alopecuroides, which provided a theoretical reference for the further development and utilization of the endophytic fungi resources of S. alopecuroides. Along with the increasingly prominent contradiction between agricultural development and a healthy ecological environment, the adoption of agriculture green production (AGP) methods has become an important measure to reduce excessive pesticide application, avoid ecological environmental pollution and promote sustainable agricultural development. However, few studies have explored the impact of green production behaviors on the revenue effect from the perspective of outsourcing services, and existing studies have not subdivided outsourcing into multiple categories to examine their impact. In this study, the first-hand data of 447 rice farmers in Ningxia and Shaanxi in northwest China were collected. By using the endogenous switching regression model (ESR), we focuses on the influence of rice farmers' AGP behaviors on their income effect, and analyzed whether outsourcing service categories can promote rice farmers' AGP behaviors and income. The results showed that outsourcing services significantly promoted AGP behaviors and the income of rice farmers. Specifically, outsourcing pesticide application showed the greatest effect on the reduction of pesticide usage, rice harvesting after a safe interval after pesticide application, and the income of rice farmers; weeding and harvesting outsourcing had less effect. These indicate that outsourcing services can improve environmental and economic benefits by reducing pesticide input costs, to promote rice farmers to engage in AGP behaviors. Moreover, green production behaviors help to increase the income of rice farmers. If rice farmers who have not implemented AGP conduct physical control behaviors, their income will increase by 23.110%; the reduction of pesticide application ranks the second, and their income will increase by 5.970%. The implementation of rice harvesting at the safe intervals after pesticide application had the lowest degree of improvement, and the farmers' income will increase by 4.505%. The study provides data for promoting outsourcing services and AGP in developing countries. Climate change in natural disasters such as droughts and floods has caused people to adopt, extend, and diffuse adaptive agricultural technologies. Meanwhile, the development of the farmland leasing market has pushed agricultural laborers to migrate from rural to urban areas, resulting in less participation in collective action. It is generally believed that no-tillage technology lessens the agricultural production risks instigated by climate change and natural disasters. However, previous literature has given little attention to this phenomenon, especially in the context of China. So, to fill this gap, the current study explores the influence of natural disaster shock and collective action on farmland transferees' no-tillage technology adoption using the data of 621 farmland transferees from Shaanxi, Gansu, and Ningxia provinces, China. By using Heckman's two-stage and moderating-effect models, the findings initially reveal that in the sample, 249 farmland transferees adopt no-tillage technology, accounting for 40.10% of farmland transferees. The farmland area in which no-tillage technology is adopted accounts for 23.90% of the total farmland area. Natural disaster shock exerts a positive and significant influence on transferees' no-tillage technology adoption, i.e., if the intensity of natural disaster shock increases by one unit, the adoption rate and adoption degree will increase by 24.9% and 9.5%, respectively. Meanwhile, collective action also positively and significantly impacts transferees' no-tillage technology adoption. If the number of transferees participating in collective action increases by one unit, the adoption rate and degree will increase by 13.3% and 6.5%, respectively. Further, it is found that collective action positively moderates the relationship between natural disaster shock and the adoption of no-tillage technology by farmland transferees. Additionally, educational level, agricultural income, farmland area, etc., are also found to influence transferees' no-tillage technology adoption significantly. Moreover, based on gender and organizational participation differences, the findings reveal that the effects of natural disaster shock and collective action are heterogeneous. The results propose that policymakers should take countermeasures such as providing training in no-tillage skills, raising no-tillage subsidy standards, and guiding long-term farmland transference. As one of the ways to achieve carbon neutralization, shrub biomass plays an important role for natural resource management decision making in arid regions. To investigate biomass dynamic variations of Caragana korshinskii, a typical shrub found in the arid desert area of Ningxia, northwest China, we combined a nonlinear simultaneous (NLS) equation system with theoretical growth (TG) and allometric growth (AG) equations. On the basis of a large biomass survey dataset and analytical data of shrub stems, four methods (NOLS, NSUR, 2SLS, and 3SLS) of the NLS equations system were combined with the TG and AG equations. A model was subsequently established to predict the AGB growth of C. korshinskii. The absolute mean residual (AMR), root mean system error (RMSE), and adjusted determination coefficient (adj-R2) were used to evaluate the performance of the equations. Results revealed that the NSUR method of the NLS equations had better performance than other methods and the independent equations for BD and H growth and AGB. Additionally, the NSUR method exhibited extremely significant differences (p < 0.0001) when compared with the equations without heteroscedasticity on the basis of the likelihood ratio (LR) test, which used the power function (PF) as the variance function. The NSUR method of the NLS equations was an efficient method for predicting the dynamic growth of AGB by combining the TG and AG equations and could estimate the carbon storage for shrubs accurately, which was important for stand productivity and carbon sequestration capacity. Seasonal alternations of extreme weather such as continuous drought and rare rainstorms significantly influence farmers' adoption of agricultural technologies. Compared with traditional tillage, no-tillage technology has more advantages to cope with extreme weather. It is hypothesized that the cultivation of contiguous farmland is still minimal in spite of the transference of farmland on a large scale in China, which ultimately halts the adoption of no-tillage technology and influences the income of households. The current study used 793 farmland transferees' data from Shaanxi, Gansu, and Ningxia provinces of China to explore this phenomenon empirically. By employing the endogenous switching regression model, the study revealed that contiguous farmland significantly promotes the adoption of no-tillage technology and positively influences households' agricultural and non-agricultural income. Meanwhile, the moderating effect of the stability of farmland rental contracts is explored. Further, it was also found that education level, organizational participation, relationship networks, and information acquisition channels influence the income of transferees who opt for no-tillage technology. The study further revealed that if a transferee who opts for no-tillage technology switches to traditional technology, their agricultural and non-agricultural income will decrease by 0.2893 and 1.6979 ten thousand yuan (RMB), respectively. In contrast, if a transferee who opts for traditional technology then switches to adopt no-tillage technology, their agricultural and non-agricultural income will increase by 0.1919 and 1.3044 ten thousand yuan (RMB), respectively. Conclusively, the current study's empirical findings offer policymakers possible guidelines to devise strategies and encourage transferees to opt for no-tillage applications to increase their families' income. In recent years, air pollution has become a serious threat, causing adverse health effects and millions of premature deaths in China. This study examines the spatial-temporal characteristics of ambient air quality in five provinces (Shaanxi (SN), Xinjiang (XJ), Gansu (GS), Ningxia (NX), and Qinghai (QH)) of northwest China (NWC) from January 2015 to December 2018. For this purpose, surface-level aerosol pollutants, including particulate matter (PMx, x = 2.5 and 10) and gaseous pollutants (sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), and ozone (O3)) were obtained from China National Environmental Monitoring Center (CNEMC). The results showed that fine particulate matter (PM2.5), coarse particulate matter (PM10), SO2, NO2, and CO decreased by 28.2%, 32.7%, 41.9%, 6.2%, and 27.3%, respectively, while O3 increased by 3.96% in NWC during 2018 as compared with 2015. The particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) levels exceeded the Chinese Ambient Air Quality Standards (CAAQS) Grade II standards as well as the WHO recommended Air Quality Guidelines, while SO2 and NO2 complied with the CAAQS Grade II standards in NWC. In addition, the average air quality index (AQI), calculated from ground-based data, improved by 21.3%, the proportion of air quality Class I (0–50) improved by 114.1%, and the number of pollution days decreased by 61.8% in NWC. All the pollutants' (except ozone) AQI and PM2.5/PM10 ratios showed the highest pollution levels in winter and lowest in summer. AQI was strongly positively correlated with PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, and CO, while negatively correlated with O3. PM10 was the primary pollutant, followed by O3, PM2.5, NO2, CO, and SO2, with different spatial and temporal variations. The proportion of days with PM2.5, PM10, SO2, and CO as the primary pollutants decreased but increased for NO2 and O3. The need for the statistical stability of data is increasing nowadays as the data resource has become a more and more important production factor. In this study, a set of general identification and correction models are established for data outlier modification. The research object we chose is the data of per capita energy consumption. Based on the joint diagnosis method of outliers and the regional convergence theory, the abrupt outliers are identified and corrected. The study finds that there is an outlier in the data of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. According to the club grouping method, 30 provinces in China are divided into two clubs and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is determined to be in the first club. Planted forests provide a variety of meaningful ecological functions and services, which is a major approach for ecological restoration, especially in arid areas. However, mapping planted forests with remote-sensed data remains challenging due to the similarities in canopy spectral and structure characteristics and associated phenology features between planted forests and other vegetation types. In this study, taking advantage of the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform and taking the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northwestern China as an example, we developed an approach to map planted forests in an arid region by applying long-term features of the NDVI derived from dense Landsat time series. Our land cover map achieved a satisfactory accuracy and relatively low uncertainty, with an overall accuracy of 93.65% and a kappa value of 0.92. Specifically, the producer (PA) and user accuracies (UA) were 92.48% and 91.79% for the planted forest class, and 93.88% and 95.83% for the natural forest class, respectively. The total planted forest area was estimated as 3608.72 km2 in 2020, accounting for 20.60% of the study area. The proposed mapping approach can facilitate assessment of the restoration effects of ecological engineering and research on ecosystem services and stability of planted forests. Agricultural landscapes are characterized by diversity and complexity, which makes crop mapping at a regional scale a top priority for different purposes such as administrative decisions and farming management. Project 32194 of the Dragon 4 Program was implemented to meet the requirements of crop mapping, with the specific objective to develop suitable approaches for precise crop mapping with combined uses of European and Chinese high- and medium-resolution satellite images. Two sub-projects were involved in the project. The first was to focus on the use of time series high-resolution satellite data, including Sentinel-2 (S2, European satellite data) and Gaofen-1 (GF-1, Chinese satellite data), due to their similar spectral bands for Earth observation, while the second was to focus on medium-resolution data sources, i.e., the European Project for On-Board Autonomy–Vegetation (PROBA-V) and Chinese Fengyun-3 Medium Resolution Spectral Imager (FY-3 MERSI) satellite data, also due to their similar spectral channels. The approach of the European Space Agency (ESA) Sent2Agri project for crop mapping was adapted in the first sub-project and applied to the Yellow River irrigated district (YERID) of Ningxia in northwest China in order to assess its ability to accurately identify crop types in China. The goal of the second sub-project was to explore the potential of both European and Chinese medium-resolution satellite data for crop assessment in a large area. Methods to handle the data and retrieve the required information for the precise crop mapping were developed in the study, including the adaptation of the ESA approach to GF-1 data and the application of algorithms for classification. A scheme for the validation of the crop mapping was developed in the study. The results of implementing the scheme to the YERID in Ningxia indicated that the overall accuracies of crop mapping with S2 and GF-1 can be high, up to 94–97%, and the mapping had an accuracy of 88% with the PROBA-V and FY3B-MERSI data. The very high accuracy suggests the possibility of precise crop mapping with the combined use of time series high- and medium-resolution satellite data when suitable approaches are chosen to handle the data for the classification of crop types. Chinese jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) is an economically important fruit tree with outstanding adaptability to marginal lands and a broad range of climate conditions. There are over 800 cultivars, mostly landraces from China. However, a high rate of mislabeling in Chinese jujube germplasm restricts the sharing of information and materials among jujube researchers and hampers the use of jujube germplasm in breeding. In the present study, we developed a large panel of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and validated 288 SNPs by genotyping 114 accessions of Chinese jujube germplasm. The validation resulted in the designation of a set of 192 polymorphic SNP markers that revealed a high rate of synonymous mislabeling in the jujube germplasm collection in Ningxia, China. A total of 17 groups of duplicates were detected, encompassing 49 of the 114 Chinese jujube cultivars. Model-based population stratification revealed two germplasm groups, and the core members of the two groups showed a significant genetic differentiation (Fst = 0.16). The results supported the hypothesis that the cultivated Chinese jujube had multiple origins and multiple regions of domestication. The Neighbor-Joining dendrogram further revealed that this collection is comprised of multiple sub-groups, each including 1-13 closely related cultivars. Parentage analysis of cultivars with known pedigree information proved the efficacy of using these SNP markers for parentage verification. A subset of 96 SNPs with high information index was selected for future downstream application including gene bank management, verification of pedigrees in breeding programs, quality control for propagation of planting materials and support of the traceability and authentication of jujube products. Cadmium (Cd) is a highly carcinogenic metal that plays an important role in the risk management of soil pollution. In this study, 153 soil samples were collected from a coal chemical plant in northwest China, and the human health risks associated with Cd were assessed through multiple exposure pathways. Meanwhile, by the Kriging interpolation method, the spatial distribution and health risks of Cd were explored. The results showed that the average concentration of Cd in the soil was 0.540 mg/kg, which was 4.821 and 5.567 times that of the soil background value in Ningxia and China, respectively. In comparison, the concentration of Cd in the soil was below the national soil environmental quality three-level standard (1.0 mg/kg). In addition, health risk assessment results showed that the total carcinogenic risk of Cd was 1.269 × 10−6–2.189 × 10−6, both above the acceptable criteria (1 × 10−6), while the hazard quotient was within the acceptable level. Oral intake and ingestion of soil particles were the main routes of exposure, and the carcinogenic risk control value of oral intake was the lowest (0.392 mg/kg), which could be selected as the strict reference of the safety threshold for Cd in the coal chemical soil. From Kriging, a prediction map can be centrally predicted on heavy metal pollution in the area surrounding the coal entrance corridor and pedestrian entrance. Simple Summary: The relationship between species and environment are an important basis for the study of biodiversity. Most researchers have found the distribution of indicator insects such as carabid beetle at the local community scale; however, a few studies on the distribution of indicator insects in grassland in China. Here, we used Generalized Additive Models (GAM) to predict temperate steppe of northwestern China carabid beetle species richness distribution, and to determine the possible underlying causal factors. Predicted values of beetle richness ranged from 3 to 12. The diversity hotspots are located in the southwest, south and southeast of the study area which have moist environment, the carabid beetle is mainly influenced by temperature and precipitation. The results underline the importance of management and conservation strategies for grassland and also provides evidence for assessing beetle diversity in temperature steppe. Beetles are key insect species in global biodiversity and play a significant role in steppe ecosystems. In the temperate steppe of China, the increasing degeneration of the grasslands threatens beetle species and their habitat. Using Generalized Additive Models (GAMs), we aimed to predict and map beetle richness patterns within the temperate steppe of Ningxia (China). We tested 19 environmental predictors including climate, topography, soil moisture and space as well as vegetation. Climatic variables (temperature, precipitation, soil temperature) consistently appeared among the most important predictors for beetle groups modeled. GAM generated predictive cartography for the study area. Our models explained a significant percentage of the variation in carabid beetle richness (79.8%), carabid beetle richness distribution seems to be mainly influenced by temperature and precipitation. The results have important implications for management and conservation strategies and also provides evidence for assessing and making predictions of beetle diversity across the steppe. The fruit of Lycium barbarum L. (FLB) has been used as medicines and functional foods for more than 2000 years in East Asia. In this study, carotenoid, phenolic, flavonoid, and polysaccharide contents as well as the antioxidant activities of FLB from 13 different regions in China from a total of 78 samples were analyzed. The results showed that total carotenoid contents ranged from 12.93 to 25.35 mg β-carotene equivalents/g DW. Zeaxanthin dipalmitate was the predominant carotenoid (4.260–10.07 mg/g DW) in FLB. The total phenolic, total flavonoid, and total polysaccharide contents ranged from 6.899 to 8.253 mg gallic acid equivalents/g DW, 3.177 to 6.144 mg rutin equivalents/g DW, and 23.62 to 42.45 mg/g DW, respectively. Rutin content ranged from 0.1812 to 0.4391 mg/g DW, and ferulic acid content ranged from 0.0994 to 0.1726 mg/g DW. All of these FLB could be divided into two clusters with PCA analysis, and both individual carotenoids and total carotenoid contents could be used as markers for regional characterization. The phenolic components were the main substance for the antioxidant activity of FLB. Considering the functional component and antioxidant activities, FLB produced in Guyuan of Ningxia was the closest to Daodi herbs (Zhongwei of Ningxia), which is commercially available high quality FLB. Dam operation has been widely deployed to mitigate the risks of ice jam flooding, but it may result in a decrease in the discharging capacities of downstream river channels. The Ningxia-Inner Mongolia reach of the Huanghe River (Yellow River) has historically suffered numerous disasters caused by ice jam flooding, and three large dams have been jointly operated to mitigate such risks since 1968. Whilst the resultant significant increases in both the annual runoff and mean water temperature during the ice jam flooding seasons helped to shorten the freezing-up duration and reduce the thickness of the ice cover, a significant channel shrinkage occurred in the reach when the dam operation took place under the input of a relatively larger amount of sediment from the upstream. In the new flow regime that commenced in 2008, a detailed examination of the river channel-form adjustments and the resultant changes to the discharging capacities identified a slight increase in the discharging capacity of the channel along the entire study reach. This was mainly due to a significantly smaller amount of sediment load being carried by a slightly increased annual runoff. Whilst it was demonstrated that the dam operation was still an effective means for mitigating the risk of ice jam flooding in the Ningxia-Inner Mongolia reach under the new flow regime, care needs to be taken when the favorable flow-sediment condition changes. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the dam operation appeared to vary significantly at the channel sections of different planforms; thus, more detailed studies are required. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on the urban shantytown renovation project in Hongguang Town, Helan County, Ningxia, in Northwest China, the influence of fly ash and silica fume admixture on the mechanical properties of Self-compacting Concrete (SCC) was tested and analyzed in this work. The experimental tests including compressive strength, splitting strength, triaxial strength and an ultrasonic nondestructive test. Furthermore, the Back Propagation (BP) neural network algorithms were established. The results show that there is an obvious difference between the development law of compressive strength of SCC and that of ordinary concrete. The splitting pressure ratio of SCC is 1/10 to 1/8, while that of ordinary concrete is 1/13 to 1/10. Moreover, the peak strain, peak stress and initial stiffness of SCC increase with the increase of the confining pressure when compressed from three directions. In addition, the ultrasonic amplitude of SCC can reflect the changing laws of its compressive strength. As a conclusion, the addition of fly ash and silica fume increases the splitting pressure ratio of SCC. More importantly, the compressive strength formula for SCC with silica fume and a low content of fly ash is proposed, and the model equation between the amplitude and compressive strength is given.
