Screen-printed membrane sensors based on the use of paper and ceramic substrates are fabricated, characterized, and used for rapid batch and continuous monitoring of Cr III in the form of CrO 4 in some industrial products and wastewater samples. Strips of paper and ceramic platforms (15 × 5 mm) were covered with conductive carbon paint and then modified with polyaniline (PANI) film, to act as an ion-to-electron transducer, followed by a drop casting of plasticized poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) Rhodamine-B chromate membrane as a recognition sensing material. In a 5.0 mmol L 2- Trizma buffer solution of pH ~8, the fabricated paper and ceramic based membrane sensors exhibited a near Nernstian response for Cr -1 Trizma buffer solution of pH ~8, the fabricated paper and ceramic based membrane sensors exhibited a near Nernstian response for Cr VI ion with slopes of -29.7 ± 0.5 and -28.6 ± 0.3 mV decade -1 , limit of detection 2.5 × 10 -5 and 2.4 × 10 -6 mol L -1 (1.3-0.12 µg mL -1 ), and linear concentration range 7.5 × 10 -3 -5.0 × 10 -5 and 7.5 × 10 -3 -1.0 × 10 -5 mol L -1 (390-0.5 µg mL -1 ), respectively. Both sensors exhibited fast and stable potentiometric response, excellent reproducibility, and good selectivity with respect to a number of common foreign inorganic species. Impedance spectroscopy and chronopotentiometry data revealed a small resistance and a larger double layer capacitance due to the presence of the intermediate polyaniline (PAN) conductive layer. Furthermore, the formation of a water layer between the ion selective membrane (ISM) and the underlying conductor polymer and between the conducting polymer and the carbon conducting surface was greatly reduced. The developed disposable solid-contact potentiometric sensors offer the advantages of simple design, long term potential stability, flexibility, miniaturization ability, short conditioning time, and cost effectiveness that enable mass production. The sensors were successfully used for static and hydrodynamic measurements of total chromium in some leather tanning wastewater and nickel-chrome alloy samples. Fibers represent a type of structure of great interest in catalysis since they combine high area to volume ratio and can be fabricated from many types of materials, such as ceramic oxides, polymers, and alloys. They can be used in isolated form or structured, as in the case of the ceramic papers synthesized in this work, following a modified papermaking technique. The addition of cationic and anionic polyelectrolytes improved the retention of ceramic fibers during the ceramic paper formation stage by adsorption processes, through the formation of floccules. In the complex aqueous system containing charged macromolecules, the amounts of polyelectrolytes to be added were determined by titrations. To enhance mechanical properties of ceramic papers, different classes of nanoparticle suspensions can be used as binders. As a novel alternative, we have used different borate-type compounds. Among them, we selected natural ulexite, which was purified and used as a binder of ceramic fibers. In order to improve mechanical resistance and flexibility, measured from tensile indexes and elastic module, the amounts of NaCaB5O6(OH)6.5H2O and the calcination temperature were varied. In this contribution, to take advantage of the unique characteristics of the ulexite-containing ceramic papers, they were impregnated with Co,Ce and Co,Ba,K and tested for diesel soot combustion. This work investigated the effects of using a new fabrication technique to prepare polymer composite on the wear-resistant performance of epoxy resin composites under dry friction conditions. Polymer composite samples with different weight contents of silicon carbide (SiC) particles were manufactured. This paper addresses the wear behavior of the obtained samples. With the suggested technique, the samples were prepared from epoxy/silicon carbide particles using a layer of thin kraft paper to prevent the sedimentation of the ceramic particles and to control the weight content of ceramic in the polymer. Kraft paper was used as a layer in the polymer composite. The hardness, wear resistance, and water absorption capacity of the produced epoxy composite samples prepared using the kraft paper technique were evaluated. The morphology of epoxy composite samples showed a significant improvement in the ceramic distribution and enhancement of interface bonding between ceramic and the polymer. The hardness values of the developed polymer composites were enhanced by up to 42.8%, which was obtained at 18 wt.% SiC particles. Increasing the ceramic content in the epoxy also led to the enhancement of wear resistance compared with pure epoxy. The results of the microstructure study also showed that the kraft paper layers helped in maintaining the distribution of the ceramic particles according to the previously specified content in each layer in the sample. Wear tests showed that the wear rate of the polymer composite decreased with the increase in the ceramic content. Development of ceramic pigments with controlled particle sizes below 1 µm is essential for the preparation of ceramic inks used in inkjet digital decoration that is currently being applied in the ceramics sector. A black ceramic pigment based on NiCoCrFe composition has been prepared using thermal decomposition of hydrotalcite-like compounds. The stoichiometry ratio between different cations was studied to obtain the blackest pigment, giving Ni0,5Co0,5CrFeO4 the better cation ratio, also the thermal treatment, comparing traditional firing in an electric furnace with microwave treatment. Samples have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Lab colour measurement. Microwave treatment showed the best way to obtain a pigment with spinel-type structure and a homogeneous size distribution near to 150 nm, with a high intensity and colorimetric data, reducing drastically the temperature and energy consumption to obtain a black ceramic pigment suitable to be utilized in digital ceramic inks. The protection of intangible cultural heritage has received much attention, among which the "ancient ceramic restoration technique" was included in The National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China (the fourth batch) in 2014. In preserving and restoring ancient ceramics, virtual reality (VR) technology has been widely applied, as it provides a new way to showcase the appearance and structure of ancient ceramics in a VR environment. This paper provides a systematic review of the application of VR reality technology in the conservation and restoration of ancient ceramics. The methodology comprises four steps: research problem formulation, literature search, study selection and data extraction. A total of 30 articles out of 1479 peer-reviewed database articles from six databases (Web of Science, SpringerLink, IEEE Xplore, Scopus, CNKI, Google Scholar) were extracted and screened, which covers the application of VR technology or VR-based devices in ceramic conservation. It has been found that the existing VR application on ceramic restoration is hardly systematic or user-oriented. Thus, we develop a VR-based Platform on ceramic restoration utilized with Unity and 3DS Max, ensuring authenticity, minimal intervention, and promising reversible repair within the VR environment. Polymer matrix solid buoyancy materials (PSBMs) have the advantages of low density, high strength, low cost, and low water absorption, and they are widely used in marine engineering fields. How to improve the performance of PSBMs further and adapt them to harsh marine environments has become a hot topic in current research. This paper provides a comprehensive summary of PSBM, detailing both the preparation methodologies and properties of single-component and multi-component PSBM. In this paper, relevant research is systematically summarized from two dimensions of matrix and filler, and the application of thermosetting resin and thermoplastic resin as a matrix in PSBM is introduced in detail, and the corresponding research on fillers such as hollow glass microspheres, fly ash, hollow ceramic spheres and hollow polymer microspheres are expounded. With the deepening of modernization in China, the situation of air environmental pollution in China is very serious, and the environmental capacity is becoming less and less. Haze has gradually become one of the main sources of pollution in most cities in China. Volatile organic compounds (VOC) have the activity of participating in photochemical reactions and can participate in a variety of complex reactions in the atmosphere to promote the formation of haze and ozone. Through the experiment of daily ceramic flower paper baking, it can be concluded that the burning loss of flower paper accounts for more than 60% of the total quality of flower paper, and most of them are between 60% and 80%. Among them, the burning loss of PVB flower paper is about 80%, the water transfer paper is about 60%, and the low temperature flower paper is about 86%. In the experiment, the VOC proportion of low temperature flower paper, the PVB paper and water transfer paper accounted for 3.17%, 0.92% and 0.45%, respectively. Through the wax removal experiment of special ceramics molded by hot pressing, it is found that paraffin wax, beeswax and oleic acid are used as binders, and the amount of VOC emitted is also different when the dosage range is different; in addition, the burning loss is generally between 10% and 20% in the process of wax removal. The content of VOC in flue gas is about 0.42%, accounting for 0.046% of special ceramics. This paper argues that mapping as a methodology can support localised production, as exemplified in the case study of the design studio Atelier NL which marries contemporary design sensibilities with traditional glass and ceramics craft-making techniques. The paper puts forward the argument that by paying attention to local ecosystem services through mapping, place-based design solutions can be developed. Furthermore, the paper argues that the methodologies deployed by Atelier NL borrow from contemporary art creative mapping practices. This case study uses the framework of the Anthropocene to situate these mapping practices identified within the case study and contextualises these within 20th-century environmental arts practices, and those of the environmental art pioneers the Harrisons in particular. Finally, the paper argues that these mapping practices are responding to the conditions of the Anthropocene which increasingly makes clear that culture and nature are enmeshed, an insight that 19th-century town planner Patrick Geddes argued for more than a century ago. The structural properties of selected (Ba1−xSrx)PbO3 ceramics were examined at 14–1148 K using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). These materials are attractive due to their variety of applications, such as, for example, high-temperature thermoelectric energy conversion. Attention was paid to this paper as a continuation of the previous examinations of higher Sr2+ concentrations. The type of perovskite distortion and temperatures of the structural phase transitions (SPTs) were determined from the splitting of certain pseudocubic lines. At this point, for example (Ba0.3Sr0.7)PbO3 showed three temperature-induced SPTs. When the amount of Sr increased in the samples, no phase transition was observed, which is contrary to the data previously demonstrated in the literature. The quality of the ceramics was examined by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersion X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), demonstrating their homogeneity and uniform elements dispersion. As a result of profound crystal investigations, confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis and quadrupole mass spectroscopy (TGA-QMS), a phase diagram was prepared for the (Ba1−xSrx)PbO3 system based on our former and recent study. Also, the investigation of a new application for the (Ba1−xSrx)PbO3 family is presented in this paper for the first time. The TGA analysis was conducted on Illinois#6 hard coal to evaluate the capability of perovskites to be used in the chemical looping combustion (CLC) process in a range of temperatures 1073–1173 K. Due to its thermal stability and reactivity, Ba0.9Sr0.1PbO3 is the material with the greatest potential to be applied as an oxygen carrier. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the utilization of 3D printing technology for the fabrication of ceramic shells in the context of investment casting. This study encompasses an exploration of various 3D printing techniques such as binder jetting technology and lithography-based ceramic manufacturing applied to ceramic materials tailored for investment casting applications for different materials. Comparative analyses between conventionally manufactured shells and those produced through 3D printing techniques are presented, shedding light on the potential advantages and challenges associated with the adoption of additive manufacturing in investment casting processes. The findings of this study reveal that both methods offer viable solutions for creating ceramic materials suitable as shells for investment casting. Both lithography-based ceramic manufacturing and binder jetting technology exhibit unique advantages and challenges. Lithography-based ceramic manufacturing demonstrates a superior surface finish and resolution, making it particularly suitable for intricate designs and fine details. In this paper, the crystallization behavior of 50ZnO:47B2O3:3Nb2O3:0.5Eu2O3 (G-0 h) glass has been investigated in detail by DSC, XRD and TEM analysis. The luminescent properties of the resulting glass-ceramics were also investigated. By XRD and TEM analysis, crystallization of several crystalline phases has been proved (α-Zn3B2O6, β-Zn3B2O6 and ZnNb2O6). By calculating crystal parameters, it was found that europium ions are successfully incorporated in the β-Zn3B2O6. Photo-luminescent spectra showed increased emission in the resulting glass-ceramic samples compared to the parent glass sample due to higher asymmetry of Eu3+ ions in the obtained crystalline phases. In this paper, based on our previous expertise on ceramic artifacts, several archaeometric methods applied to some samples collected from the Dudești archaeological site (Oltenia region, Romania) are reported for the first time in the literature. The chemical composition, and microstructural and morphological characterization of these samples offer important conclusions about the processing conditions. Some specific techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF), optical microscopy (OM), stereomicroscopy, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Raman spectroscopy provide compositional information about composition and the decay processes. Additionally, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method helps to estimate pore sizes and specific surface areas. A thermogravimetric analysis (TGA/TDG) was used to establish details regarding the production technology and also the raw materials source used to make the ceramics. The obtained results indicated that the ceramics are based on a paste of muscovite and feldspar, with high plasticity, together with quartz and hematite/goethite and calcite, the latter in very low concentrations. According to the obtained results, we could assume that clays from the investigated samples had a low concentration of calcium. Gypsum is present as paste in a very low concentration, identified by the presence of a sulphate group in WDXRF. In the same context, iron oxides have a significant impact on the firing atmosphere of iron-rich clay, resulting in blackening under reducing conditions and a reddish coloration under oxidative conditions. The use of hematite and gypsum as pigments further contributes to the color variations in the pottery. The consistent firing temperature range of 200–600 °C in Dudești pottery implies a standardized production process, the variation in color being dependent on the specific reducing/oxidative regime conditions (reducing atmosphere followed by rapid oxidation). This relationship between clay composition and local sources suggests a connection to Neolithic pottery production in the region and their color depending on the reducing/oxidative regime conditions. The conventional manufacturing chain for technical ceramics is too expensive for the production of small series or unique parts with complex designs. Hybrid machines that combine additive and subtractive processes can be an interesting solution to overcome this technology lock-in. However, despite the great interest in hybrid machines for metallic parts, there is a lack of data in the literature when it comes to ceramics. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to closing this gap. It is the first to evaluate the achievable geometrical tolerances according to ISO 2768-2 as well as the surface textures of composite zirconia parts shaped sequentially by pellet additive manufacturing (PAM, from ceramic injection molding feedstock) and finish milling. The green parts were then debinded and sintered to analyze the influence of these steps. Compared to the initial green parts, the sintered parts exhibited shiny and smooth surfaces with sharp edges. Flatness, parallelism and perpendicularity all achieved an H (fine) class, while the surface textures were significantly improved, resulting in arithmetic roughness (Ra) below 1.6 µm. The outstanding thermal, chemical, and mechanical properties of ceramic membranes have attracted increasing attention, offering advantages over polymer and metal counterparts. Exploring the specialized applications of ceramic membranes through various preparation methods poses a daunting challenge for contemporary researchers. Traditional preparation methods are essentially unable to meet the requirements of complex membrane structures. For instance, in ceramic fuel cell applications, cells composed of ceramic membrane materials exhibit high resistance and low conductivity, which seriously hinders the progress of new high-performance ceramic fuel cells. Therefore, it is necessary to improve preparation methods to improve the electrochemical performance of devices composed of ceramic membrane materials. In recent years, breakthroughs in various new processing technologies have propelled the performance of ceramic membrane devices. This paper will focus on the following aspects. Firstly, traditional preparation methods and advanced preparation methods of ceramic membrane materials will be discussed. Secondly, high-performance ceramic membrane materials prepared by different advanced preparation methods are introduced, and the electrochemical properties of the devices composed of ceramic membrane materials are elaborated in combination with different testing and characterization methods. This paper aims to obtain the best shape accuracy evaluation algorithm for silicon nitride ceramic balls after lapping, and to extract the initial signal of the ball surface to improve the accuracy and reliability of the algorithm. The research methods of this paper are as follows: Firstly, an analysis of the uniform envelope of the lapping trajectory of ceramic balls is carried out to verify whether the lapping trajectory after processing can achieve a consistent envelope on the balls' surface. On this basis, it is found through experiments that the standard deviation SD between the roundness deviations of different contour sections is small. The value is maintained at approximately 0.03 μm, and the roundness deviation can approximately replace the spherical deviation. Then the different contour sections of the sphere are sampled by the Taylor roundness instrument. Considering the uncertainty, the sampling points of different contour sections are averaged and used as the original signal of the sphere surface. Then the EMD method is used to process the signal to be detected on the sphere surface. The initial signal of the sphere surface is extracted by judging whether the number of ripples Kc obtained by decomposition is greater than the critical value. Then the initial signal is used as the input value of the approximation algorithm. Through the roundness deviation approximation algorithm based on the least square method, the given minimum approximation domain range is finely processed. The divided fine points are used as the center of the circle to intersect with the initial signal. The maximum, minimum, and range of each circle are calculated to obtain the roundness error based on the minimum circumscribed circle, the maximum inscribed circle, and the minimum region method. Finally, the calculated values are compared with those obtained by the traditional algorithm. The experimental results of this paper show that the algorithm is consistent with the roundness error measured by the instrument, compared with the mainstream evaluation criteria. In summary, the conclusions can be drawn as follows: Through a large number of experimental cases and comparative experiments, the algorithm has high accuracy and reliability. In the paper, glass ceramics used as architectural materials were prepared based on lead fuming furnace-slag (LFFS) by a synergistic sinter-crystallization method. The effects of Al2O3 addition on the crystallization phase, crystallization kinetics, and mechanical performance of glass ceramics were investigated. The results showed that the phases of the glass ceramics prepared were composed of gehlenite and wollastonite, and crystallization kinetics analysis showed that bulk crystallization dominated the overall crystallization process in the Al2O3 content range from 2% to 8%. The glass transition temperature and the crystallization peak temperature of the glass ceramics generally increased with the increase in the Al2O3 content. Additionally, the crystalline morphology gradually developed from sheet-like to spherical, while the number of pores increased and the bulk density gradually decreased. When the Al2O3 content was 2%, the bending strength of glass ceramics reached its maximum, 75.1 MPa, corresponding to a bulk density of 2.24 g·cm−3. The present paper investigates flaw strength distributions established using various flexural tests on batches of SiC bar test specimens, namely four-point bending as well as three-point bending tests with different span lengths. Flaw strength is provided by the elemental stress operating on the critical flaw at the fracture of a test specimen. Fracture-inducing flaws and their locations are identified using fractography. A single population of pores was found to dominate the fracture. The construction of diagrams of p-quantile vs. elemental strengths was aimed at assessing the Gaussian nature of flaw strengths. Then, empirical cumulative distributions of strengths were constructed using the normal distribution function. The Weibull distributions of strengths are then compared to the normal reference distributions. The parameters of the Weibull cumulative probability distributions are estimated using maximum likelihood and moment methods. The cumulative distributions of flexural strengths for the different bending tests are predicted from the flaw strength density function using the elemental strength model, and from the cumulative distribution of flexural strength using the Weibull function. Flaw strength distributions that include the weaker flaws that are potentially present in larger test pieces are extrapolated using the p-quantile diagrams. Implications are discussed regarding the pertinence of an intrinsically representative flaw strength distribution, considering failure predictions. Finally, the influence of the characteristics of fracture-inducing flaw populations expressed in terms of flaw strength interval, size, dispersion, heterogeneity, and reproducibility with volume change is examined. Additive manufacturing is very important due to its potential to build components and products using high-performance materials. The filament-based 3D printing of ceramics is investigated, revealing significant developments and advancements in ceramic material extrusion technology in recent years. Researchers employ several typologies of ceramics and binders to achieve fully dense products. The design of the filament and the necessary technological adaptations for 3D printing are fully investigated. From a material perspective, this paper reviews and analyzes the recent developments in additive manufacturing of material-extruded ceramics products, pointing out the performance and properties achieved with different material-binder combinations. Improving fracture toughness, electrical conductivity, and biocompatibility has consistently presented challenges in the development of artificial bone replacement materials. This paper presents a new strategy for creating high-performance, multifunctional composite ceramic materials by doping graphene oxide (GO), which is known to induce osteoblast differentiation and enhance cell adhesion and proliferation into barium calcium zirconate titanate (BCZT) ceramics that already exhibit good mechanical properties, piezoelectric effects, and low cytotoxicity. Using fast hot-pressed sintering under vacuum conditions, (1 − x)(Ba0.85Ca0.15Zr0.1Ti0.9)O3−xGO (0.2 mol% ≤ x ≤ 0.5 mol%) composite piezoelectric ceramics were successfully synthesized. Experimental results revealed that these composite ceramics exhibited high piezoelectric properties (d33 = 18 pC/N, kp = 62%) and microhardness (173.76 HV0.5), meeting the standards for artificial bone substitutes. Furthermore, the incorporation of graphene oxide significantly reduced the water contact angle and enhanced their wettability. Cell viability tests using Cell Counting Kit-8, alkaline phosphatase staining, and DAPI staining demonstrated that the GO/BCZT composite ceramics were non-cytotoxic and effectively promoted cell proliferation and growth, indicating excellent biocompatibility. Consequently, with their superior mechanical properties, piezoelectric performance, and biocompatibility, GO/BCZT composite ceramics show extensive potential for application in bone defect repair. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the fracture resistance of 3D-printed zirconia occlusal veneers (OVs) of different thicknesses and supported by different abutment materials. Materials and Methods: The standard OV of a natural molar was prepared and digitized using a laboratory 3D scanner. The resulting digital tooth abutment was milled either using cobalt–chromium (CoCr) or a fiber-reinforced composite (FRC). All the abutments were digitized and standardized OVs (30° tilt of all the cusps) designed with 0.4 mm, 0.6 mm, or 0.8 mm wall thicknesses. The OVs were fabricated using either the Programill PM7 milling device (Ivoclar Vivadent, PM) or one of two 3D zirconia printers, Cerafab 7500 (Lithoz, LC) or Zipro-D (AON, ZD). The ZD samples were only tested on CoCr abutments. The completed OVs were luted to their abutments and subjected to artificial aging, consisting of thermocycling and chewing simulation before fracture testing with a steel sphere (d = 8 mm) as an antagonist with three contact points on the occlusal OV surface. Besides the total fracture resistance Fu,tot, the lowest contact force Fu,cont leading to the local fracture of a cusp was of interest. The possible effects of the factors fabrication approach, wall thickness, and abutment material were evaluated using ANOVA (α = 0.05; SPSS Ver.28). Results: The total fracture resistance/contact forces leading to failure ranged from Fu,tot = 416 ± 83 N/Fu,cont = 140 ± 22 N for the 0.4 mm OVs fabricated using LC placed on the FRC abutments to Fu,tot = 3309 ± 394 N (ZD)/Fu,cont = 1206 ± 184 N (PM) for the 0.8 mm thick OVs on the CoCr abutments. All the factors (the fabrication approach, abutment material, and OV wall thickness) had an independent effect on Fu,tot as well as Fu,cont (p < 0.032). In pairwise comparisons for Fu,tot of the OVs luted to the CoCr abutments, the ZD samples statistically outperformed the LC- and PM-fabricated teeth irrespective of the thickness (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, the printed occlusal veneers exhibited comparable fracture resistances to those of the milled variants. However, more resilient abutments (FRC as a simulation of dentine) as well as a thinner wall thickness led to reduced OV fracture resistance, suggesting that 0.4 mm thick zirconia OVs should not be unreservedly used in every clinical situation. This paper describes the process to obtain ceramic nanotubes from titanium dioxide, alumina and yttrium oxide by a feasible, replicable and reliable technology, including three stages, starting from an electrospinning process of poly(methyl methacrylate) solutions. A minimum diameter of 0.3 μm was considered optimal for PMMA nanofibers in order to maintain the structural stability of covered fibers, which, after ceramic film deposition, leads to a fiber diameter of 0.5–0.6 μm. After a chemical and physical analysis of the stages of obtaining ceramic nanotubes, in all cases, uniform deposition of a ceramic film on PMMA fibers and, finally, a uniform structure of ceramic nanotubes were noted. The technological purpose was to use such nanotubes as ingredients in screen-printing inks for electrochemical sensors, because no study directly targeted the subject of ceramic nanotube applications for printed electronics to date. The printing technology was analyzed in terms of the ink deposition process, printed electrode roughness vs. type of ceramic nanotubes, derived inks, thermal curing of the electrodes and the conductivity of electrodes on different support (rigid and flexible) at different curing temperatures. The experimental inks containing ceramic nanotubes can be considered feasible for printed electronics, because they offer fast curing at low temperatures, reasonable conductivity vs. electrode length, good printability on both ceramic or plastic (flexible) supports and good adhesion to surface after curing. The demands of low-Curie-temperature (~−10 °C) positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistors are increasing in advanced precision integrated circuits and other industries. In this paper, the Nb-doped Ba0.55Sr0.45TiO3(BST)-based PTC resistivity materials are reported. The effects of the sintering process, especially the cooling rate on the PTC properties of the material, are investigated. The results indicate that the Ba0.55Sr0.45Ti0.9985Nb0.0015O3 composition of the prepared PTC ceramics demonstrates promising PTC characteristics. These include a Curie temperature as low as −13 °C, a high temperature coefficient of 0.296 at −3.4 °C, a large enough resistivity change of 3.1 over a narrow phase transition temperature range of approximately 38 °C, and moderate resistivity below the Curie temperature. Such properties suggest that the Ba0.55Sr0.45Ti0.9985Nb0.0015O3 ceramics are likely suitable for use in thermal management systems designed for low-temperature control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ceramic conversion treatment (CCT) is an effective way to modify the surface of titanium alloys. However, this process normally needs more than a 100-h treatment at 600–700 °C to form a hard and wear-resistant titanium oxide layer. In this paper, we pre-deposited a thin gold layer on the surface of Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo (Ti6242) samples before CCT to investigate if Au can speed up the treatment. Treatments at 640/670/700 °C were carried out for 10 or 120 h. After CCT, the surface roughness, surface morphology, microstructure, elemental composition, and phase constituents were characterized. Surface hardness and the nano-hardness depth distribution were measured. Finally, reciprocating sliding tribological tests were carried out to study the friction and wear of the surface layers. Thin gold layers accelerated the CCT significantly with a much thicker oxide layer. The friction of the untreated Ti6242 alloy against the WC ball was unsteady and high, but it was much lower and stable for the CCTed samples pre-deposited with Au because of the formation of titanium oxides and lubrication effect of the gold particles. The wear resistance of the CCTed Ti6242 alloy samples with gold was reinforced significantly. By pre-depositing a thin gold layer on the surface of Ti6242, the treatment time can be cut significantly, and CCT becomes more efficient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Vat photopolymerization is renowned for its high flexibility, efficiency, and precision in ceramic additive manufacturing. However, due to the impact of random defects during the recoating process, ensuring the yield of finished products is challenging. At present, the industry mainly relies on manual visual inspection to detect defects; this is an inefficient method. To address this limitation, this paper presents a method for ceramic vat photopolymerization defect detection based on a deep learning framework. The framework innovatively adopts a dual-branch object detection approach, where one branch utilizes a fully convolution network to extract the features from fused images and the other branch employs a differential Siamese network to extract the differential information between two consecutive layer images. Through the design of the dual branches, the decoupling of image feature layers and image spatial attention weights is achieved, thereby alleviating the impact of a few abnormal points on training results and playing a crucial role in stabilizing the training process, which is suitable for training on small-scale datasets. Comparative experiments are implemented and the results show that using a Resnet50 backbone for feature extraction and a HED network for the differential Siamese network module yields the best detection performance, with an obtained F1 score of 0.89. Additionally, as a single-stage defect object detector, the model achieves a detection frame rate of 54.01 frames per second, which meets the real-time detection requirements. By monitoring the recoating process in real-time, the manufacturing fluency of industrial equipment can be effectively enhanced, contributing to the improvement of the yield of ceramic additive manufacturing products. The current state of mixed ionic–electronic conducting ceramic membrane technology presents significant advancements with potential applications in various fields including solid oxide electrolyzers, fuel cells, hydrogen production, CO2 reduction, and membrane reactors for chemical production and oxygen separation. Particularly in oxygen separation applications, optimal conditions closely align with the conditions of oxygen-rich air streams emitted from the anode of solid oxide co-electrolyzers. This paper describes and analyzes a novel integrated heat recovery system based on mixed ionic–electronic conducting membranes. The system operates in two stages: firstly, oxygen is separated from the anode output stream using mixed ionic–electronic conducting membranes aided by a vacuum system, followed by the heat recovery process. Upon oxygen separation, the swept gas stream is recirculated at temperatures near thermoneutral conditions, resulting in performance improvements at both cell and system levels. Additionally, an oxygen stream is generated for various applications. Ceramic adhesive structures have been increasingly used in aerospace applications. However, the peaks of the signal on the upper and lower surface of the adhesive layer are difficult to measure directly due to the thin thickness of the adhesive layer and the effect of the attenuation dispersion of the ceramic layer. Thus, the existing non-destructive testing techniques have been ineffective in detecting adhesive quality. In this paper, the thickness of the adhesive layer is measured using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. A sparse deconvolution method is proposed for the terahertz time-domain spectral signal of ceramic adhesive structures with different adhesive layer thicknesses. The results show that the methods proposed in this paper can realize the separation of reflection signals for glue layers with a thickness of 0.20 mm. By comparing with a wavelet denoising method and a modified covariance method (AR/MCM), the effectiveness of the sparse deconvolution method in estimating the thickness of the glue layer is demonstrated. The issues of high costs and sophisticated circuit structures limit applicability of traditional chipped sensors. This paper innovatively designs a chipless sensor based on the split-ring resonator combined with temperature-sensitive material as the substrate. The alumina ceramics are used as the sensitive material for reflecting the environment temperature in accordance with its characteristic that its dielectric constant increases monotonically with rising temperature. The simulation demonstrates that the resonant frequency of the sensor monotonically decreases from 8.58 GHz to 8.22 GHz with an offset of 0.36 GHz and a sensitivity of 0.9 MHz/°C for a variation from 500 °C and 900 °C. The sensor designed in this paper has good resonance characteristics, is wireless, passive, and low cost, has a planar structure, and is suitable for various harsh environments. Titanium (Ti) and fluorine (F) have the potential to provide a variety of desirable physical, chemical, mechanical, and biological properties applicable to a broad range of indications. Consequently, Ti- and F-containing glasses and glass ceramics are currently under investigation for use in nuclear, optical, electrochemical, dental, and industrial fields. Accordingly, significant interest exists with respect to understanding the individual and interaction effects that these elements have on material structure and properties to support the accelerated design, development, and deployment of these materials. This review aims to serve as a foundational reference across multiple disciplines, highlighting the fundamental properties and versatility of Ti- and F-containing glasses and glass ceramics. By consolidating our current knowledge of these materials, this broad overview will identify areas in which we can further our understanding to support the a priori prediction and effective design of these systems. Finally, this paper will introduce the potential to improve material design by integrating experimentation, modelling, and computational approaches in a manner commensurate with the principles of the Materials Genome Initiative. The paper presents the results of studies of the resistance of lithium ceramics to helium swelling during its accumulation in the structure of the near-surface layer, and the identification of the three types of lithium ceramics most resistant to radiation degradation: Li4SiO4, Li2TiO3, and Li2ZrO3. The simulation of helium swelling under high-dose irradiation was carried out by irradiation with He2+ ions with fluences of 1 × 1016 ion/cm2–5 × 1017 ion/cm2, which allows for simulating the implanted helium accumulation with a high concentration in the damaged surface layer (about 500 nm thick). The samples were irradiated at a temperature of 1000 K, the choice of which was determined by the possibility of simulating radiation damage as close as possible to real operating conditions. Such accumulation can result in the formation of gas-filled bubbles. Through the application of X-ray phase analysis, indentation testing, and thermophysical parameter assessments, it was ascertained that among the three ceramic types, Li4SiO4 ceramics exhibit the highest resistance to helium-induced swelling. These ceramics experienced less significant alterations in their properties compared to the other two types. An analysis of the correlation between the structural and strength parameters of lithium-containing ceramics revealed that the most significant changes occur when the volumetric swelling of the crystal lattice becomes the dominant factor in structural alterations. This phenomenon is manifested as an accelerated degradation of strength characteristics, exceeding 10%. At the same time, analysis of these alterations in the stability of thermophysical parameters to the accumulation of structural distortions revealed that, regardless of the type of ceramics, the degradation of thermophysical properties is most pronounced under high-dose irradiation (above 1017 ion/cm2). Si3N4 ceramic materials have great potential in the field of insulation in SF6 gas ultra-high-voltage transmission and transformation equipment due to their excellent insulation performance and thermal stability. In this paper, Y2O3-Al2O3 was used as a sintering aid to prepare high-density (>99%) Si3N4 ceramics through two-step pressureless liquid-phase sintering, and the mechanism of the influence of Y2O3-Al2O3 addition on the microstructure and electrical properties of Si3N4 ceramics was studied. The results showed that increasing the sintering aid content could increase the grain size of Si3N4 ceramics, while increasing the Y2O3 ratio could refine the grain size. When Y2O3-Al2O3 addition was 8% and the ratio was 5:3, the room temperature volume resistivity of Si3N4 ceramics was the highest, 7.33 × 1014 Ω·m, and the volume resistivity was the most stable when the sintering aid content was 12%. The internal carrier migration type of Si3N4 ceramics was mainly ion conduction, mainly along the grain boundaries. The temperature stability of the resistivity of Si3N4 ceramics could be improved by doping with Y3+ functional ions to reduce the potential barrier conductivity level and refine the grain size to improve the conduction path. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of Si3N4 ceramics were mainly affected by interface polarization. They gradually increased with the increase in sintering aid addition. Ceramic ball milling has demonstrated remarkable energy-saving efficiency in industrial applications. However, there is a pressing need to enhance the grinding efficiency for coarse particles. This paper introduces a novel method of combining media primarily using ceramic balls supplemented with an appropriate proportion of steel balls. Three grinding media approaches, including the utilization of steel balls, ceramic balls, and a hybrid combination, were investigated. Through an analysis of the grinding kinetics and the R–R particle size characteristic formulas, the study compares the breakage rate and particle size distribution changes for the three setups. The results indicate that employing binary media effectively improves the grinding efficiency for +0.3 mm coarse particles while maintaining the energy-saving advantages of ceramic ball milling. Simultaneously, the uniformity of the ground product is ensured. The main motivation for the present work is to provide an improved description of the response of Functionally Graded (FG) structures under a spherical indenter, considering material nonlinearities. This is achieved through the implementation of elastoplastic material behavior using integration points to avoid the division of the structure into multiple layers. The current paper proposes a numerical investigation into the mechanical response of functionally graded materials (FGMs) in contact with a rigid hemispherical head indenter. The numerical model considers both the Mori–Tanaka model and self-consistent formulas of Suquet to accurately model the smooth variation of material properties through the thickness of the elastoplastic FG material. The model execution involves a UMAT user material subroutine to implement the material behavior into ABAQUS/Standard. The user material UMAT subroutine is employed to introduce material properties based on the integration points, allowing for an accurate representation and analysis of the material's behavior within the simulation. The developed numerical model is validated through a comparison with experimental results from the literature, showing a good correlation that proves the efficiency of the proposed model. Then, a parametric study is conducted to analyze the effect of the indenter dimension, the indentation depth and the gradient index on the indentation force, the contact pressure evolution, von Mises equivalent stress and equivalent plastic strain distributions located on the vicinity of the contact zone. The results showed that the elastoplastic response of TiB/Ti FG plates is significantly influenced by the gradient index, which determines the properties of the FG composite through the thickness. The application feedback on existing silicon nitride ceramic bearings and RCF experimental research all indicate that the primary failure mode of silicon nitride ceramic bearings is material spalling on the contact surface. Spalling failure occurs due to the initiation and propagation of cracks under rolling contact. However, silicon nitride ceramic bearings, owing to their unique manufacturing method, inevitably exhibit defects and cracks. Therefore, as silicon nitride ceramic bearings are increasingly prevalent, reducing the probability of spalling failure is crucial for extending their service life. This can only be achieved by gaining a clear understanding of the crack initiation and expansion mechanisms in silicon nitride ceramic bearings. This paper is based on silicon nitride rolling friction experiments. It involves the joint simulation of Franc3D-V8.4 and ABAQUS2020, wherein the crack front SIFs are calculated for each load contact position of the surface crack on the silicon nitride ceramic bearing ring during cyclic movement. The study also delves into the determination of the maximum effective stress intensity factors and explores the influence of the initial crack depth on the cycle life and direction of crack propagation. The research yields several valuable conclusions. The findings of this research offer theoretical guidance for formulating grinding technologies for silicon nitride rings and adjusting and controlling working parameters of silicon nitride ceramic ball bearings. Poisson's ratio is the fundamental metric used to discuss the performance of any material when strained elastically. However, the methods of the determination of Poisson's ratio are not yet discussed well. The first purpose of this paper is to introduce the five kinds of typical experimental methods to measure Poisson's ratio of glasses, ceramics, and crystals. The second purpose is to discuss the experimental results on the variation of Poisson's ratio by composition, temperature, and pressure reviewed for various glasses, ceramics, and crystals, which are not yet reviewed. For example, in oxide glasses, the number of bridging oxygen atoms per glass-forming cation provides a straightforward estimation of network crosslinking using Poisson's ratio. In the structural-phase transition of crystals, Poisson's ratio shows remarkable temperature-dependence in the vicinity of a phase-transition temperature. The mechanism of these variations is discussed from physical and chemical points of view. Ceramic matrix composites have the advantages of low density, high specific strength, high specific die, high-temperature resistance, wear resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, etc., which are widely used in aerospace, energy, transportation, and other fields. CMCs have become an important choice for engine components and other high-temperature component manufacturing. However, ceramic matrix composite is a kind of multi-phase structure, anisotropy, high hardness material, due to the brittleness of the ceramic matrix, the weak bonding force between fiber and matrix, and the anisotropy of composite material. Burr, delamination, tearing, chips, and other surface damage tend to generate in the machining, resulting in surface quality and strength decline. This paper reviewed the latest abrasive machining technology for SiC ceramic composites. The characteristics and research directions of the main abrasive machining technology, including grinding, laser-assisted grinding, ultrasonic-assisted grinding, and abrasive waterjet machining, are introduced first. Then, the commonly used numerical simulation research for modeling and simulating the machining of ceramic matrix composites is briefly summarized. The production of ceramic phase-reinforced high-entropy alloy composite coatings with excellent mechanical properties, high-temperature oxidation resistance, and corrosion resistance via laser cladding is a new hotspot in the field of surface engineering. However, as high-entropy alloys have a wide range of constituent systems and different kinds of ceramic particles are introduced in different ways that give the coatings unique microscopic organization, structure, and synthesized performance, it is necessary to review the methods of preparing ceramic phase-reinforced high-entropy alloys composite coatings via laser cladding. In this paper, the latest research progress on laser cladding technology in the preparation of ceramic phase-reinforced high-entropy alloy composite coatings is first reviewed. On this basis, the effects of ceramic particles, alloying elements, process parameters, and the microstructure and properties of the coatings are analyzed with the examples of the in situ generation method and the externally added method. Finally, research gaps and future trends are pointed out, serving as a reference for the subsequent research, application, and development of the preparation of ceramic phase-reinforced high-entropy alloy composite coatings. Amongst chairside CAD/CAM materials, the use of lithium-based silicate glass–ceramics (LSGC) for indirect restorations has recently been increasing. Flexural strength is one of the most important parameters to consider in the clinical selection of materials. The aim of this paper is to review the flexural strength of LSGC and the methods used to measure it. Methods: The electronic search was completed within PubMed database from 2 June 2011 to 2 June 2022. English-language papers investigating the flexural strength of IPS e.max CAD, Celtra Duo, Suprinity PC, and n!ce CAD/CAM blocks were included in the search strategy. Results: From 211 potential articles, a total of 26 were identified for a comprehensive analysis. Categorization per material was carried out as follows: IPS e.max CAD (n = 27), Suprinity PC (n = 8), Celtra Duo (n = 6), and n!ce (n = 1). The three-point bending test (3-PBT) was used in 18 articles, followed by biaxial flexural test (BFT) in 10 articles, with one of these using the four-point bending test (4-PBT) as well. The most common specimen dimension was 14 × 4 × 1.2 mm (plates) for the 3-PBT and 12 × 1.2 mm (discs) for BFT. The flexural strength values for LSGC materials varied widely between the studies. Significance: As new LSGC materials are launched on the market, clinicians need to be aware of their flexural strength differences, which could influence the clinical performance of restorations. More and more researchers are studying the heat transfer performance of aeronautical materials at high temperatures. In this paper, we use a quartz lamp to irradiate fused quartz ceramic materials, and the sample surface temperature and heat flux distribution were obtained at a heating power of 45~150 kW. Furthermore, the heat transfer properties of the material were analyzed using a finite element method and the effect of surface heat flow on the internal temperature field was investigated. The results show that the fiber skeleton structure has a significant effect on the thermal insulation performance of fiber-reinforced fused quartz ceramics and the longitudinal heat transfer along the rod fiber skeleton is slower. As time passes, the surface temperature distribution tends to stability and reaches an equilibrium state. The surface temperature of fused quartz ceramic increases with the increase in the radiant heat flux of the quartz lamp array. When the input power is 5 kW, the maximum surface temperature of the sample can reach 1153 °C. However, the non-uniformity of the sample surface temperature also increases, reaching a maximum uncertainty of 12.28%. In order to promote the research of green energy in the situation of increasingly serious environmental pollution, dielectric ceramic energy storage materials, which have the advantages of an extremely fast charge and discharge cycle, high durability, and have a broad use in new energy vehicles and pulse power, are being studied. However, the energy storage density of ordinary dielectric ceramic ferroelectric materials is low, so, in this paper, we have divided eight components based on BaTiO3 (BT). Through the traditional solid phase sintering method, AB positions were replaced with various elements of different proportions to improve their energy storage density and the energy storage efficiency of BT-based ferroelectric materials. In this paper, we studied the results of XRD, Raman, ferroelectric, dielectric, and impedance tests of doped samples, and the best components were determined. The (1−x)BT−xBi( M g 1 / 3 Z n 1 / 3 T a 1 / 6 N b 1 / 6 )O3 series of ceramics are made by the incorporation of five elements, Bi3+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Ta5+, and Nb5+. With the rising electric hysteresis loop of the doping amount x thin, the saturation polarization strength and residual polarization strength decrease, and the energy storage density rises first and then decreases. The dielectric characteristic after x = 0.08 showed a flat dielectric peak, indicating that the ferroelectric relaxation had been formed. The energy storage density and efficiency of the best component x = 0.12 reached 1.75 J/cm3 and 75%, respectively, and the Curie temperature was about −20 °C, so it has the potential to be used at room temperature. The main challenge is to create a Digital Twin of the ARS objects and artefacts using geometric capturing and semantic modelling of archaeological information. Moreover, the individualisation and comparison of features (appliqués), along with their visualisation, extraction, and rectification, results in a strategy and application for comparison of these features using both geometrical and archaeological aspects with a comprehensible rule set. This method of a semi-automatic semantic model-based comparison workflow for archaeological features on Roman ceramics is showcased, discussed, and concluded in three use cases: woman and boy, human–horse hybrid, and bears with local twists and shifts. To study the full sound field distribution characteristics of full ceramic ball bearings, reduce the radiation noise of the bearings, and improve their service performance. In this paper, the sound field distribution characteristics of 6206 silicon nitride ceramic deep groove ball bearings are studied under different oil supplies. A mathematical model of the sound field distribution of full ceramic ball bearings under oil lubrication is established, and the validity of the model is verified by experimental data. The bearing cavity simulation model of the full ceramic ball bearing is established, and the influence of oil supply on the operation characteristics of the full ceramic ball bearing is studied. Through theoretical and experimental research, the circular distribution law of the noise signal of ceramic ball bearings under different oil supplies is revealed. It is found that there is an optimal fuel supply when the speed and load are constant. Under optimal oil supply lubrication conditions, the full ceramic ball bearing has the minimum radiation noise, and the bearing exhibits optimal lubrication state, vibration and temperature rise characteristics. The new contribution of this paper: with the increase in oil supply, the sound pressure level of radiation noise of full ceramic ball bearings decreases and then increases. Ceramic matrix materials have attracted great attention from researchers and industry due to their material properties. When used in engineering systems, and especially in aero-engine applications, they can result in reduced weight, higher temperature capability, and/or reduced cooling needs, each of which increases efficiency. This is where high-temperature ceramics have made considerable progress, and ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are in the foreground. CMCs are classified into non-oxide and oxide-based ones. Both families have material types that have a high potential for use in high-temperature propulsion applications. The oxide materials discussed will focus on alumina and aluminosilicate/mullite base material families, whereas for non-oxides, carbon, silicon carbide, titanium carbide, and tungsten carbide CMC material families will be discussed and analyzed. Typical oxide-based ones are composed of an oxide fiber and oxide matrix (Ox-Ox). Some of the most common oxide subcategories are alumina, beryllia, ceria, and zirconia ceramics. On the other hand, the largest number of non-oxides are technical ceramics that are classified as inorganic, non-metallic materials. The most well-known non-oxide subcategories are carbides, borides, nitrides, and silicides. These matrix composites are used, for example, in combustion liners of gas turbine engines and exhaust nozzles. Until now, a thorough study on the available oxide and non-oxide-based CMCs for such applications has not been presented. This paper will focus on assessing a literature survey of the available oxide and non-oxide ceramic matrix composite materials in terms of mechanical and thermal properties, as well as the classification and fabrication methods of those CMCs. The available manufacturing and fabrication processes are reviewed and compared. Traditional experiments are difficult to accurately and quantitatively measure the interfacial properties of composites, such as interfacial bonding strength, interfacial microelectronic structure, and other information. It is particularly necessary to carry out theoretical research for guiding the interface regulation of Fe/MCs composites. In this research, the first-principles calculation method is used to systematically study the interface bonding work; however, in order to simplify the first-principle calculation of the model, dislocation is not considered in this paper, including interface bonding characteristics and electronic properties of α-Fe- and NaCl-type transition metal carbides (Niobium Carbide (NbC) and Tantalum Carbide (TaC)). The interface energy is related to the bond energy between the interface Fe atoms, C atoms and metal M atoms, and the interface energy Fe/TaC < Fe/NbC. The bonding strength of the composite interface system is accurately measured, and the interface strengthening mechanism is analyzed from the perspectives of atomic bonding and electronic structure, which provides a scientific guiding ideology for regulating the interface structure of composite materials. This paper discusses and underlines the importance of investigations on post-medieval shipwrecks, particularly for wrecks where archival documentation is also available, in relation to gaining a better knowledge of tin-glazed tableware produced in Montelupo (Florence, Tuscany). The case of the Mortella II wrecks is interesting in this sense and also shows how an exact dating of the wreck can allow for a revision of the chronologies of the ceramic classes found on board. In the case of the majolica of Montelupo, the revision of the dating of these ceramics with great diffusion (Europe, Americas, Africa) has major repercussions on international archaeological research. This paper presents a preliminary study of the Montelupo tin-glazed tableware found in the 2021 excavation researches conducted on the Mortella II wreck. The interest in the pottery recovered is high, for several reasons: (A) The dating of the wreck to 1527, clarified thanks to the discovery of a written document related to the sinking of the two Genoese "twin" ships off Saint-Florent (Haute-Corse), which are conventionally defined as Mortella II and III. (B) The almost exclusive presence of Montelupo majolica, a ceramic class among the most important between the 16th and 17th centuries, with a very wide dispersal throughout in the Mediterranean and Europe, as well as internationally. (C) The variety of decorations of the majolica of Montelupo documented thus far in the wreck (at least nine) makes this first sample a reference site for the study of this ceramic class in the first quarter of the 16th century, especially for the precise date of closure for the context (1527). This paper presents an in-depth comparative study of the effects of different molten salt systems, catalyst additions, preparation temperatures, temperature rise rates, and holding times on the properties of mullite whiskers during their preparation process, as well as exploring the enhancement of the toughening effect of mullite whiskers on ceramics. The morphology, crystal structure, and composition of the whiskers were analyzed via SEM, XRD, TG, strength tests, etc. The results show that the best-performing mullite whisker was prepared with an aluminum sulfate molten salt system, with the addition of aluminum fluoride catalyst at 4%, a temperature increase rate of 5 °C, a temperature increase up to 850 °C, and a holding time of 5 h, and its aspect ratio reached 20.64. By adding different contents of mullite whiskers and comparing the toughness strengths and wear rates of the silicon carbide ceramics, it was found that the toughness strength of the ceramics was improved by more than 16.5% and the wear rate was lower than 0.4% when the addition of mullite whisker was more than 3%.
