The leisure industry posted a mere 0.1% growth in 1993, reflecting the adverse affects of the prevailing recession to business. The decline in revenues was further indicated by the decrease of visitors to Tokyo Disneyland. To remain competitive, amusement park operators develop new amenities and improve their facilities. Expositions are used to draw more customers. Some companies resort to motifs while others introduce rides that make customers feel as though they are being transported to strange lands.
