In 2018, the position paper 'Imaging the adult with congenital heart disease: a multimodality imaging approach' was published. The paper highlights, in the first part, the different imaging modalities applied in adult congenital heart disease patients. In the second part, these modalities are discussed more detailed for moderate to complex anatomical defects. Because of the length of the paper, simple lesions were not touched on. However, imaging modalities to use for simple shunt lesions are still poorly known. One is looking for structured recommendations on which they can rely when dealing with an (undiscovered) shunt lesion. This information is lacking for the initial diagnostic process, during repair and at follow-up. Therefore, this paper will focus on atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, and persistent arterial duct. Pre-, intra-, and post-procedural imaging techniques will be systematically discussed. This position paper will offer algorithms that might help at a glance. The document is prepared for general cardiologists, trainees, medical students, imagers/technicians to select the most appropriate imaging modality and to detect the requested information for each specific lesion. This consensus paper provides a framework for grading of severity of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging-based assessment of chamber size, function, and aortic measurements. This does not currently exist for CMR measures. Differences exist in the normal reference values between echocardiography and CMR along with differences in methods used to derive these. We feel that this document will significantly complement the current literature and provide a practical guide for clinicians in daily reporting and interpretation of CMR scans. This manuscript aims to complement a recent comprehensive review of CMR normal value publications to recommend cut-off values required for severity grading. Standardization of severity grading for clinically useful CMR parameters is encouraged to lead to clearer and easier communication with referring clinicians and may contribute to better patient care. To this end, the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) has formed this expert panel that has critically reviewed the literature and has come to a consensus on approaches to severity grading for commonly quantified CMR parameters. Advances in the diagnosis and management of congenital heart disease have led to a marked improvement in the survival of adult with congenital heart disease (ACHD) patients. However, ACHD patients are a heterogeneous population, with a large spectrum of anatomic substrates even within specific lesions. In addition, the nature of previous surgery and other intervention is highly variable rendering each patient unique and residual anatomic and haemodynamic abnormalities are very common. As the ACHD population continues to age, acquired heart disease will also require cardiac imaging assessment. It is increasingly recognized in ACHD community that the diagnostic utility of a multimodality cardiovascular approach is greater than the sum of individual tests. In ACHD patients, diagnostic information can be obtained using a variety of diagnostic tools. The aims of this document are to describe the role of each diagnostic modality in the care of ACHD patients and to provide guidelines for a multimodality approach. Background Caregiving for the adult benign brain tumor (aBBT) population is unique, as patients' extended period of survivorship poses significant challenges related to the long-term sequelae of the disease and the foreboding possibility of recurrence. In this integrative review, we examined the caregiving experience across the spectrum of the aBBT population. Methods We searched OVID, CINAHL, and PubMed databases from 2000 to 2022. We included studies primarily focused on caregivers of aBBT and written in English. Results Among 594 papers identified in the initial review, we included a final list of 7 papers. Among these 7 papers, 5 central themes emerged. First, we identified a theme surrounding psychosocial and emotional needs, which included the social isolation of caregiving. The second theme related to informational care needs, including what is considered to be the normal course of recovery after surgery. The third theme focused on access to services, including specialist neurosurgical care, and the fourth theme related to financial strain and the economic burdens associated with long-term follow-up. Lastly, we found a theme surrounding family role changes, which included the shift from spouse to caregiver. Conclusions In this review, we identified themes highlighting similarities to the high-grade glioma population. However, we uncovered distinct differences in terms of caregiver characteristics, length of survivorship, and the burden of caregiving over time. This paper focuses on Seligman's (2011) PERMA components (positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment) of well-being. Teachers' reflection data have been analysed deductively to identify components of PERMA as relevant to themselves as well their perceptions of their learners' well-being during and after a longitudinal classroom action research project in India. The original British Council study was not focused on well-being but instead on exploring the feasibility of working with children in partnership in classroom research. Teachers reported positive emotions, high levels of engagement, closer relationships with learners in their classes, and they also felt that their work became more meaningful and purposeful. Researching classrooms in partnership with children has the potential to promote many benefits for both learners and teachers, including increased levels of well-being. There has been a renewed interest in professional and academic discourse in the reconceptualisation of social work with adults as a human rights-based approach. This is compatible with the social model of disability, which philosophically adult social workers make claims to align with. This was recently argued for when the Department of Health in England piloted a named social worker for adults with learning disabilities, whose behaviour challenged services. This paper discusses the conceptualisation of rights-based practice, its relevance and appropriateness for contemporary social work policy. Drawing on the recognition theory literature, it shall be shown that the meta-theory of rights-based practice may have relevance to contemporary social work practice with adults with learning disabilities. The paper shall also consider the renewed interest in normative reconstruction in social work practice and influencing factors such as drives towards individualism and marketisation. It will consider how these impacted on the adoption into UK policy of social work as a positive intervention to address structural inequalities, perhaps more accurately described as disablism, experienced by adults with learning disabilities, which ultimately is concluded to be a 'wicked problem'. Over the last 25 years, scholars have proposed several recommendations for including spoken grammar in second language classrooms. However, recent studies point to potential challenges in this endeavour: learners may feel inauthentic when using what they see as 'native-speaker' forms, and interlocutors may see these forms as less acceptable when used by non-native speakers. This paper examines current recommendations for teaching spoken grammar in light of these issues and proposes a functional teaching approach that presents spoken grammar as a communicative resource rather than a formal characteristic of native-speaker usage. It then reports on a pilot study exploring the feasibility and students' reception of such an approach. The paper concludes that it is possible to adapt spoken grammar pedagogy to be more socioculturally sensitive, and that teaching should aim towards a fuller understanding and appreciation of the affordances of spoken grammar. This case is of a 34-year-old immunocompromised male with Pott's puffy tumour, which was treated with antibiotics and endoscopic sinus surgery. Pott's puffy tumour is typically a complication of frontal sinusitis in children and immunocompromise can be a precipitating factor. A search was conducted of Embase, Medline, CINAHL, Cochrane, Google Scholar, Informit and Scopus of 'Pott's Puffy' and variations of this phrase. Initial 804 records were reviewed by title, abstract and full text. Of the unique papers identified, 155 only included paediatric patients and 128 included adult patients. After title, abstract and full-text review of 13 papers were identified describing Pott's puffy tumour in immunocompromised patients. Immunosuppression was noted as a risk factor in only a small number of cases, with diabetes mellitus being the most common. A few cases did note immunosuppression due to newer immunomodulatory agents being used for treatment of autoimmune conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective The Latina(o)/Hispanic (L/H) population represents the largest and fastest-growing ethnic group in the United States. Migration patterns have evolved and greater diversity (i.e. country of origin) is evident, highlighting the ever-changing heterogeneity of this community and the need for the field of neuropsychology to ensure equitable care for linguistically and culturally diverse communities. This paper aims to provide a flexible protocol of neuropsychological instruments appropriate for primarily Spanish-speaking adults residing in the United States. Method Spanish measures were selected based on availability, translations/cultural modifications, accompanying normative data sets, and clinician experience/acumen. Bilingual/bicultural providers of neuropsychological services to Spanish speakers across the training spectrum working at U.S.-based medical centers implemented a multimodal approach (i.e. literature search, clinical practice parameters, and focus groups) in the development of a multi-domain primary protocol that includes core and supplemental measures that are appropriate for individuals with varying linguistic proficiency and sociocultural demographic characteristics. Results A multi-domain, evidence-based, flexible neuropsychological protocol is presented. Recommendations for test selection based on sociocultural demographic factors and examples of clinical assessment practices are provided via a case illustration. Most instruments included may be applied across cultural and regional backgrounds. Conclusion Provision of neuropsychological services to primarily Spanish-speaking adults presents unique challenges. Existing Spanish measures and accompanying data rarely capture the heterogeneity of L/H individuals. Although Spanish has the largest number of neurocognitive instruments, relative to other languages, robust and representative norms continue to be scarce. : Amongst adults with chronic pain, overweight and obesity are highly prevalent. The association between chronic pain and overweight is driven by several explanations, including increased biomechanical load, changes in the gut microbiome, and low-grade (neuro)inflammation. Moreover, the link between overweight, obesity and chronic pain can best be considered from a lifestyle perspective. Since conservative treatment for chronic pain is often limited to short-term and small effects, addressing important comorbidities within a lifestyle approach could be the next step towards precision medicine for these patients. Indeed, evidence shows that combining weight reduction with conservative pain management is more effective to reduce pain and disability, compared to either intervention alone. This perspective article aims to update the reader with the current understanding of the possible explanatory mechanisms behind the interaction between overweight/obesity and chronic pain in an adult population. Second, this paper applies this knowledge to clinical practice, including assessment and conservative treatment of overweight/obesity in adults with chronic pain. Henceforth, clinical recommendations and guidelines are provided based on available scientific evidence and the authors' clinical expertise. To systematically review the published data regarding the cumulative exposure to radiation in selected cohorts of adults or paediatric patients due to diagnostic nuclear medicine examinations. We conducted PubMed/Medline searches of peer-reviewed papers on cumulated effective dose (CED) from diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures published between 01 January 2010 until 31 January 2021. Studies were considered eligible if the contribution of nuclear medicine examinations to total CED was >10%. Studies reporting cumulative doses in a single episode of care or in a limited time (≤1 year) were excluded. The main outcomes for which data were sought were the CED accrued by patients, the period in which the CED was accrued, the percentage of patients with CED > 100 mSv and the percentage contribution due to nuclear medicine procedures to the overall CED. The studies included in the synthesis were 18 which enrolled a total of 1,76,371 patients. Eleven (1,757 patients), three (1,74,079 patients) and four (535 patients) were related to oncological, cardiologic and transplanted patients, respectively. All the studies were retrospective; some of the source materials referred to small number of patients and some of the patients were followed for a short time. Not many studies accurately quantified the contribution of nuclear medicine procedures to the overall radiation exposure due to medical imaging. Finally, most of the studies covered an observation period which extended mainly in the 2000–2010 decade. There is a need of prospective, multicentric studies enrolling a greater number of patients, followed for longer period in selected groups of patients to fully capture the cumulative exposure to radiation in these settings This systematic review allows to identify selected group of patients with a specific health status in which the cumulated exposure to radiation may be of concern and where the contribution of nuclear medicine procedures to the total CED is significant. Domestic abuse (DA) is a high-volume area of police work and the utility of criminal justice intervention has been questioned, especially in relation to cases perceived as low risk. This paper initiates debate on conditional cautions being used by some police forces as an alternative to a criminal charge. We highlight limitations of existing evaluations of the Cautioning Adult Relationship Abuse (CARA) intervention and potential unintended consequences of wider roll-out that remain untested. We suggest continuing to grow the evidence-base for behaviour change while addressing issues around implementation, with a greater emphasis on controlling and coercive behaviour. Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the most common chronic inflammatory skin diseases. The effect of probiotic administration on the severity of AD in adults has shown inconsistent results. Objectives: To determine the effectiveness of probiotic supplementation as a therapeutic tool for adult AD. Methods: PubMed, Scopus and Embase were systematically searched to collect data from studies in which probiotics were administered to treat adult AD. Results: Out of 413 publications, 9 papers were included in the meta-analysis. Significant differences in the ScORing Atopic Dermatitis tool favouring probiotics were observed [relative risk (RR) –5.93, 95% confidence interval (CI) –8.43 to –3.43]. Lactobacillus salivarius presented with largest effect size (RR –9.79, 95% CI –13.04 to –6.54), followed by L. acidophilus (RR –5.77, 95% CI –10.82 to –0.72) and L. plantarum (RR –3.76, 95% CI –6.36 to –1.16). No benefit was observed with L. fermentum. Based on the severity of AD, probiotics showed better results in people with moderate-to-severe AD (RR –9.12, 95% CI –12.17 to –6.08) than in individuals with mild disease (RR –2.67, 95% CI –4.67 to –0.66). Serum levels of IgE and eosinophil count remained significantly unchanged after the probiotic intervention (RR 0.25, 95% CI –0.10 to 0.60; RR –0.27, 95% CI –0.68 to 0.13, respectively). Conclusions: Current evidence supports a role for some probiotics as a therapeutic tool for the treatment of adult AD, particularly in patients with severe AD. The efficacy of probiotics is strain specific, with L. salivarius and L. acidophilus having the largest clinical benefit. Such benefit is apparently independent of IgE levels and eosinophil count. Despite these encouraging results, the decrease in AD severity did not translate into a clinically meaningful better quality of life as assessed by the Dermatology Life Quality Index. There currently is not enough reliable data to reach conclusions about the optimal dose and duration for probiotic treatment. Our meta-analysis supports the role of some probiotics as a therapeutic tool for the treatment of adult atopic dermatitis (AD), particularly in those with severe AD. The practice of international teaching assistant (ITA) training across US institutions has been centred around a traditional model of native speakerism that expects ITAs to acquire the American communication paradigm through pre-made pronunciation and comprehension drills and exercises. Such practice tends to isolate the teaching of listening, speaking, and pronunciation from ITAs' profound academic background, linguistic competence, and agency. This paper reports on an empowering ITA training curriculum that personalizes and professionalizes learning for international young scholars by promoting their accountability, responsibility, decision-making, and agency. Rather than approaching ITA training from traditional repeat-after-me pronunciation exercises and instructor-centred lectures, our approach leads to vital strides in ITAs becoming confident users of English with tools they need in their future academic endeavours. Teacher motivation is a key component for increasing teachers' commitment to their professionalism and the quality of their teaching. This paper provides insight into L2 teacher motivation in the context of their sustained engagement with a theatre festival for schools. Drawing on self-determination theory, it investigates how this extracurricular activity enables the teachers to fulfil their individual and professional needs. The findings from eight semi-structured interviews of Slovak ELT teachers suggest the festival offers them a space for satisfaction of their needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness in the long term. The festival enables them to pursue their own intrinsic appreciation of arts and theatre that is then shared with their pupils. Teachers appreciate the co-creative process during the rehearsals, which enhances learners' intrinsic and instrumental value of learning English. A literature review about depression, anxiety, illness perception and neurocognitive impairment in adults with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) was performed. Through PubMed and PsycINFO published studies from 1980 until March 2017 were searched. Two papers assessed depression and anxiety. Four papers explored illness perception. Five studies assessed cognitive impairment. Mean depression and anxiety scores were within normal range. From the reviewed research, it can be concluded that deficits in executive functioning and memory appear in FH patients between 18 and 40 years old, and mild cognitive impairment in older than 50. The research in the field of the present review is relatively recent: all the studies have been published in the current century. Further research should be done using complete standardized neuropsychological assessment and brain imaging techniques. Introduction Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the number one cause of death, and there is evidence that work exposures could be associated with their development. This study aimed to systematically review observational studies of adults exposed to job strain, effort–reward imbalance, long working hours, job insecurity, shift work, and occupational noise, and assess the association of those work exposures with CVDs. Methods The Navigation Guide framework was applied. The population were adults of working age (18–65), and cohort and case–control studies were included. The work exposures were job strain, effort–reward imbalance, long working hours, job insecurity, shift work, and occupational noise. The outcomes were cerebrovascular diseases, ischaemic heart disease, and hypertensive diseases. The selection, data extraction, risk of bias assessment, and quality assessment were carried out by two reviewers independently and disagreements were solved by a third reviewer or by consensus. The synthesis of the results was done by applying the 'vote counting based on direction' method, and the results were summarized in an effect direction plot. The strength of the evidence for every risk factor and CVD was defined by consensus. Results A total of 17 643 papers were initially identified in the literature search, but after applying the filters by title and abstract, and full text, 86 studies were finally included. From the included studies, sufficient evidence was found of the harmfulness of job strain for cerebrovascular disease and ischemic heart disease. Furthermore, there was sufficient evidence of the harmfulness of shift work for ischemic heart disease. Evidence of no relationship was found between long working hours and shift work with ischaemic heart disease and hypertensive disease, respectively. The other associations of work exposures and CVDs had limited or inadequate evidence of harmfulness. Conclusions In this comprehensive review, there was sufficient evidence of a harmful relationship between job strain, shift work, and CVDs. For the other work exposures, more high-quality studies are needed. In order to improve current prevention strategies for CVDs, the findings of this review imply that job strain and shift work are work exposures that constitute additional risk factors that could be approached as targets for worksite interventions. Introduction Overweight and obesity trends are on the rise among both civilian and military beneficiaries. The purpose of this narrative review was to evaluate nutrition, behavioral, lifestyle, pharmacotherapy, and alternative approaches to weight management (WM) among adults with a focus toward identifying gaps and evidence-based strategies that could support or enhance current and future WM programming among military adult beneficiaries. Materials and Methods A trained research team identified publications (January 2013-January 2020) for abstract review using key search terms and inclusion criteria. Two independent researchers conducted both the abstract review and full-paper bias scoring using selected Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) criteria. All eligible studies were assessed for bias and categorized based on key themes. The study was registered in PROSPERO, the international prospective register of systematic reviews. Results The research team identified 741 articles, with 278 meeting final inclusion criteria. The mean bias score was 7.5 ± 3.9 (score of 0-13; higher indicating fewer bias factors), with 64% scoring ≥9. Factors contributing to low bias included intervention compliance, dropout rate, and inability to blind participants. The most common published weight-loss interventions included a combination of therapies (59%), diet/supplement (17%), other approaches (12%), behavior change (7%), and exercise (6%). Themes identified to improve WM outcomes included leveraging technology, increasing intervention interactions, community support, emphasis on early weight loss, pharmacotherapy risk–benefit, enhanced behavioral component, resistance exercise, mindfulness, and benefits of quality-of-life measures. Conclusions Reviewers identified several validated tools and techniques to augment and update existing WM programming to improve health and weight outcomes. The review affirmed use of individualized dietary patterns and not a "one-size-fits-all approach" as well as incorporating more comprehensive and team-approached treatments to make the best use of tools and strategies to enhance outcomes. Objectives Previous research in the United States suggests contextual income mobility may play a role in explaining the disparities between life expectancy in the United States and peer countries. This article aims to extend previous research by estimating the consequences of average individual exposure to mobility regimes during childhood and adolescence on adult health. Methods This study draws its data from two longitudinal datasets that track the county of residence of respondents during childhood and adolescence, the Panel Study of Income Dynamics and the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997. We implement marginal structural models to assess the association of the average exposure to county income mobility on five health outcomes and behaviors. Results The results are only partially consistent with a systematic association between exposure to income mobility and health outcomes. Evidence obtained from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth suggests less income mobility might increase the probability of smoking by age 30. Discussion The paper provides a precise assessment of the hypothesis that childhood exposure to income mobility regimes may influence health status through behavior later in life and contribute to longevity gaps. Only partial evidence on smoking suggests an association between income mobility and health, so we discuss potential reasons for the disparities in results with previous research. Research on race and policing indicates that Black Americans experience a greater frequency of police contacts, discretionary stops, and police harassment when stops occur. Yet, studies examining the long-term consequences of police contact with young people have not examined whether criminal justice consequences of police contact differ by race. We address this issue by examining whether police encounters with children and adolescents predict arrest in young adulthood and if these effects are the same for Black and White individuals. The paper uses longitudinal survey data from 331 Black and White respondents enrolled in the Seattle Public School District as eighth graders in 2001 and 2002. Our findings indicate that police encounters in childhood increase the risk of arrest in young adulthood for Black but not White respondents. Black respondents who experience contact with the police by the eighth grade have eleven times greater odds of being arrested when they are 20 years old than their White counterparts. Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive condition that primarily manifests as a chronic respiratory disease. CF is usually diagnosed in early childhood or through newborn screening although in a small but important group, diagnosis is not made until adulthood. Highly effective cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator therapies are now available for most genetic causes of CF highlighting the importance of identifying people with late presentations of CF.Aim: We aimed to identify the clinical characteristics of people diagnosed with CF in adulthood and their resulting eligibility for novel CFTR modulator therapies.Design: Retrospective single-centre cohort study.Methods: Patients diagnosed with CF at age 18 years or older were identified from a patient database. Paper and electronic medical records were reviewed and clinical, microbiological and radiological data at diagnosis were recorded.Results: Nineteen patients were identified. Median age at diagnosis was 38 years (range: 19-71) and 9 (47%) were female. All patients had a history of chronic respiratory symptoms and 18/19 (94%) had radiological evidence of bronchiectasis. All patients had two pathogenic CFTR mutations identified with 16/19 (84%) compound heterozygotes for the F508del mutation. The majority of patients had a CFTR genotype considered eligible for CFTR modulator therapy (84% and 89% according to European and US licences, respectively).Conclusions: Adult patients with unexplained chronic bronchiectasis should be thoroughly investigated for CF. To prepare for the development of the 2021 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) sexually transmitted infections treatment guidelines, the CDC convened a committee of expert consultants in June 2019 to discuss recent abstracts and published literature on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of sexually transmitted infections.This paper summarizes the key questions, evidence, and recommendations for the diagnosis and management of uncomplicated Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) infections in adolescents and adults that were reviewed and discussed for consideration in developing the guidelines. The evidence reviewed mostly focused on efficacy of doxycycline and azithromycin for urogenital, rectal, and oropharyngeal CT infection, CT risk factors in women, performance of CT nucleic acid amplification tests on self-collected meatal specimens in men, and performance of newer CT point-of-care tests. Given the continued increase in mobile health applications (apps) aimed at healthcare and the recognition of sedentary behavior (SB) as a public health problem, the goal of this scoping review study was to summarize the effects of interventions based on mobile health apps designed to reduce SB in adults, with a specific focus on SB. The electronic databases PubMed, PsycINFO, SportDISCUS, Web of Science, and manual searches in reference lists were conducted on papers published up to September 2020. Nine out of the 897 studies researched were included and composed the descriptive synthesis. The investigations found in the present study showed a decrease in time spent on television viewing and in total time spent sitting, as well as an increase in the number of SB breaks after interventions based on mobile health apps. In conclusion, despite the growing interest in intervention programs in SB, only nine studies have used smartphone apps as a strategy to reduce SB in adults. Mobile health apps were proved to be effective in SB reduction, as assessed by different parameters, and should be encouraged. Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a serious public health problem, with >300 000 affected births worldwide each year. About 73% of the SCD-affected people in India belong to the tribal population. The Government of India is planning to implement a programme for SCD and hence people's knowledge of SCD is crucial. This paper reports the SCD-related knowledge among the Indian tribal population. Methods As part of a formative assessment before an intervention, data were collected from 9837 adults from 24 primary health centre areas of six states. Each community's knowledge of SCD was elicited through an interviewer-administered pretested questionnaire. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted. Results Overall, 32.1% (CI 31.2 to 33.1%) of participants had heard of SCD, 7.9% (CI: 7.3 to 8.4%) knew that SCD is hereditary, 19.4% (CI: 18.7 to 20.3%) knew that a blood test can diagnose SCD and 23.9% (CI: 23.1 to 24.8%) knew that SCD is treatable. Only 13.1% (CI: 12.4 to 13.8%) knew that SCD can be prevented. No more than 16% knew about any SCD symptoms. Multiple logistic regression revealed some predictors of basic knowledge (i.e. had heard of SCD). Conclusions There is a gross inadequacy of knowledge about SCD in the Indian tribal population. Background The purpose of this paper is to assess the cost-effectiveness of a proportionate universal programme to reduce physical inactivity (Leeds Let us Get Active (LLGA)) in adults. Methods A continuous-time Markov chain model was developed to assess the cost implications and QALY gains associated with increases in physical activity levels across the adult population. A parametric survival analysis approach was applied to estimate the decay of intervention effect over time. Baseline model data were obtained from previous economic models, population-based surveys and other published literature. A cost-utility analysis was conducted from a health care sector perspective over the programme duration (39 months). Scenario and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed to test the robustness of cost-effectiveness results. Results In total, 51 874 adult residents registered to the programme and provided baseline data,19.5% of which were living in deprived areas. Under base case assumptions, LLGA was found to be likely to be cost-effective. However, variations in key structural assumptions showed sensitivity of the results. Conclusions Results from this study suggest a non-negligible level of uncertainty regarding the effectiveness, and therefore, cost-effectiveness of a universal offer of free leisure centre-based exercise that targets hard to reach groups. This paper argues that frequently updated data on the nature of residential moves and the circumstances of movers in the United Kingdom are insufficient for many research purposes. Accordingly, we develop previous research reported in this Journal to re‐purpose consumer and administrative data in order to develop annual estimates of residential mobility between all UK neighbourhoods. We use a unique digital corpus of linked individual and household‐level consumer registers compiled by the UK Consumer Data Research Centre, comprising over 143 million unique address records pertaining to the entire UK adult population over the period 1997–2016. We describe how records pertaining to individuals vacating a property can be assigned to their most probable residential destination, based on novel methods of matching names, assessing household composition, and using information on the date and probable distance of residential moves. We believe that the results of this analysis contribute highly granular, frequently updated estimates of residential moves that can be used to chart population‐wide outcomes of residential mobility and migration behaviour, as well as the socio‐spatial characteristics of the sedentary population. Introduction: Smokeless tobacco (ST) is a significant South Asian public health problem. This paper reports a qualitative study of a sample of South Asian ST users.Methods: Interviews, using a piloted topic guide, with 33 consenting, urban dwelling adult ST users explored their ST initiation, continued use, and cessation attempts. Framework data analysis was used to analyze country specific data before a thematic cross-country synthesis was completed.Results: Participants reported long-term ST use and high dependency. All reported strong cessation motivation and multiple failed attempts because of ease of purchasing ST, tobacco dependency, and lack of institutional support.Conclusions: Interventions to support cessation attempts among consumers of South Asian ST products should address the multiple challenges of developing an integrated ST policy, including cessation services.Implications: This study provides detailed understanding of the barriers and drivers to ST initiation, use, and cessation for users in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. It is the first study to directly compare these three countries. The insight was then used to adapt an existing behavioral support intervention for ST cessation for testing in these countries. This paper reviews application of the Daily Egg Production Method (DEPM) to sardine (Sardinops sagax) off southern Australia between 1995 and 2019. Coefficients of variation (CVs) of estimates of spawning biomass (SB) were reduced from 23–59% to 8–12% by: (i) estimating mean daily egg production (P 0), spawning fraction (S), and sex ratio (R) from all historical data rather than annually; and (ii) combining batch fecundity (F) and female weight (W) into a single parameter, relative fecundity (F ′ =  F ^ / W). Total daily egg production was estimated most precisely from annual estimates of spawning area (A) and estimates of P 0 obtained from historical data. Both S and R were estimated most precisely from historical data. Estimating W and F from historical data did not increase precision. F ′ had lower CVs than both W and F , and was stable across years and a wide range of W. Findings demonstrate that A can be converted into a precise estimates of SB using estimates of P 0, S , R , and F ′ obtained from historical data. However, the possibility that DEPM parameters may change in the future cannot be discounted. The ectoparasitoid beetle, Dastarcus helophoroides (Fairmaire) (Coleoptera: Bothrideridae), has been widely used as a biological control agent for many cerambycid beetles in China, Korea, and Japan. However, much less is known about its phototactic behavior to visual stimuli. In this paper, the phototactic behavioral response of D. helophoroides to 27 monochromatic lights and to nine illumination intensities of the most attractive light was evaluated using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as light sources. The results showed that in dual choice between darkness and individual LED light, D. helophoroides adults exhibited a positively phototactic response to all wavelengths ranging from 300 to 860 nm. The near-infrared light (NIR, ranging from 700 to 760 nm) elicited stronger phototactic behavioral response, showing a preference for NIR wavelengths light. In paired choice among four preferred NIR lights, D. helophoroides adults displayed a significantly more favorable response to NIR light at 700 nm. Furthermore, the beetles expressed varying levels of sensitivity to illumination intensities from 1 to 600 lux under NIR light at 700 nm. The phototactic response was strongest at 7 lux and a statistically significant downward trend was found with increasing or decreasing the illumination intensities. These findings clearly demonstrate that D. helophoroides is a positively phototactic insect and its phototactic behavior is significantly influenced by light wavelength and illumination intensity, among which NIR light with peak wavelength at 700 nm and an intensity at 7 lux are most suitable in attracting D. helophoroides adults. Improvement in burn care has led to more patients surviving the injury but has also led to more burn survivors requiring rehabilitation for a protracted period after discharge. Thus, this review sought to map the intervention content and outcomes associated with existing postdischarge rehabilitation programs for adults surviving major burns. A systematic scoping review approach was utilized. The Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR) and core outcome set for adult burn survivors were used to guide data extraction following which a narrative synthesis was undertaken. In all, 23 papers were retained in the review. Following discharge and up to 1 year postburn, the components of the rehabilitation programs comprised of physical, psychological, and social components. Beyond 1 year postburn, the rehabilitation programs demonstrated a preponderance of physical therapies. Support for family members was not highlighted in the included studies. Outcomes of rehabilitation programs up to 1 year postburn covered the seven core outcome domains. Outcomes associated with rehabilitation programs beyond 1 year postburn were, however, limited to the perceived quality of life, neuromuscular, and physical role functioning domains. Although most studies reported statistically significant findings, the outcome measures varied across studies which makes it difficult to draw overarching conclusions. The findings suggest that long-term rehabilitation programs for adult burn survivors are lacking. More robust studies are also needed to examine community participation outcomes associated with burns rehabilitation programs. Open in new tab Download slide Open in new tab Download slide OBJECTIVES We sought to provide further evidence on the safety and efficacy of aortic valve neocuspidization (AVNeo) using autologous pericardium in adult patients with aortic valve disease by reporting clinical and echocardiographic results from the first UK experience and performing a meta-analytic comparison with other biological valve substitutes. METHODS We reported clinical and echocardiographic outcomes of 55 patients (mean age 58 ± 15 years) undergoing AVNeo with autologous pericardium in 2 UK centres from 2018 to 2020. These results were included in a meta-analytic comparison between series on AVNeo (7 studies, 1205 patients, mean weighted follow-up 3.6 years) versus Trifecta (10 studies, 8705 patients, 3.8 years), Magna Ease (3 studies, 3137 patients, 4.1 years), Freedom Solo (4 studies, 1869 patients, 4.4 years), Freestyle (4 studies, 4307 patients, 7 years), Mitroflow (4 studies, 4760 patients, 4.1 years) and autograft aortic valve (7 papers, 3839 patients, 9.1 years). RESULTS In the present series no patients required intraoperative conversion. After mean follow-up of 12.5 ± 0.9 months, 3 patients presented with endocarditis and 1 required reintervention. The remaining patients had absent or mild aortic valve insufficiency with very low peak and mean transvalvular gradients (16 ± 3.7 and 9 ± 2.2 mmHg, respectively). Meta-analytic estimates showed non-significant difference between AVNeo and all but Magna Ease valves with regards to structural valve degeneration, reintervention and endocarditis. When compared Magna Ease valve, AVNeo and other valve substitutes showed an excess of valve-related events. CONCLUSIONS AVNeo is safe, associated with excellent haemodynamic profile. Its midterm risk of valve-related events is comparable to most biological valve substitutes. Magna Ease is potentially the best biological choice as far as risk of reintervention is concerned. Preschool children may interact with the Internet of Things (IoT) devices and program the behavior of these products. However, not much is known about the children's ideas for a software programming tool. This research aimed at investigating how children aged from 4 to 6 years perceive the programming of IoT devices and, from practice with them, build a prototype of a programming environment for them. To this end, three Participatory Design techniques were adapted and applied to (and with) 30 children. A final prototype was built and its usability was assessed with the participation of six children. Photos and videos collected during the empirical assessment were later analysed using the Content Analysis Method. During the design, children relied on buttons and explicitly represented the IoT devices and adults in the user interfaces. They also adopted a top-down approach to programming IoT devices. Developing sampling programs for Culicoides can be challenging due to variation in ecology and behavior of the numerous species as well as their broad distributions and habitats. In this paper, we emphasize the need to clearly define research goals to select appropriate sampling methods. This includes not just the choice of sampling device, but also choice of attractant, site, number of traps per site, the duration and frequency of sampling, and the number of traps per unit area. Animal-baited trapping using enclosure traps and direct animal aspiration is more labor-intensive but yields information on species attracted to specific hosts as well as their biting rates. Sampling immatures is discussed with respect to choosing collection sites in semiaquatic mud, soil, and rich organic habitats. Teachers play a crucial role in the implementation of an English as a lingua franca (ELF) perspective in the classroom. However, little research has been conducted on what challenges teachers might encounter and what types of support are needed to teach English from an ELF perspective. This study thus explores the experiences of seven primary teachers enrolled in a teacher development programme designed to support their attempts to teach from an ELF perspective in South Korea. Drawing on in-depth interview data, the paper provides detailed accounts of the challenges and strategies for developing ELF-aware teachers. The main challenges encountered included a lack of the pedagogical skills required to implement planned lessons, the paucity of relevant instructional materials, and parents' strong preference for Standard English. It is possible, however, that these challenges could be addressed by creating opportunities for guided reflection, peer collaboration, and effective communication. Background. Gliomas are rare, with a dismal outcome and an obvious impact on quality of life, because of neurological, physical and cognitive problems, as well as personality and behavioral changes. These latter changes may affect the lives of both patients and their relatives in a profound way, but it is unclear how often this occurs and to what extent. Methods. We performed a systematic review to determine the prevalence of changes in personality and behavior in glioma patients. Searches were conducted in PubMed/Medline, PsycINFO, Cochrane, CINAHL and Embase. Based on predetermined in- and exclusion criteria, papers were screened for eligibility. Information on the topics of interest were extracted from the full-text papers. Results. The search yielded 9895 papers, of which 18 were found to be eligible; 9 qualitative and 9 quantitative studies. The reported prevalence rates of changes in personality and/or behavior varied from 8%-67% in glioma patients, and was 100% in a case series with bilateral gliomas. Moreover, these changes were associated with distress and a lower quality of life of patients as well as informal caregivers. Methods of measurement of personality and behavioral changes differed considerably, as did the description of these changes. Conclusion. To determine the true prevalence of changes in behavior and personality, present but poorly labeled in the reported studies, prospective studies are needed using proper definitions of personality and behavioral changes and validated measurement tools. Extending choice and control to the users of publicly funded services is a cornerstone in the personalisation agenda. It is assumed that giving service users greater choice and control will promote users' independence. As service users are increasingly given the responsibility to determine their support, social work practitioners need to work differently with service users in order to provide personalised support in exercising choice. This requires practitioners having a nuanced understanding of people's concepts of independence, how people make choices about support services and how those choices can impact on their perceived independence in the longer term. This paper reports new findings from a longitudinal qualitative study of choice and control over the life course in England. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with fifty adults and older people experiencing fluctuating support needs and/or a sudden deterioration in health. The paper discusses the relationships between choice and independence as experienced by disabled and older people. The findings show that independence is not a fixed concept, but is relative and multidimensional. There are multiple relationships between the choices people make and the consequences of those choices for people's subjective views of their independence. Objective: to determine how often 'old age' was given as a cause of death in patients presenting for cremation, with particular reference to their characteristics and the medical conditions known to the certifying doctor at the time of death. Design: prospective review of all cremation papers presented to one crematorium over a two-year period. Setting: an English crematorium serving a population of about 250,000. Main outcome measures: deaths certified as being associated with 'old age' and those solely registered as due to this cause. Demographics of the patients and whether further enquiries by the medical referee revealed un-notified co-morbid conditions. Results: of 4300 cremation papers studied, 300 (7%) deaths were said to be associated with old age, of which 98 were to old age alone. Simple further enquiry discovered between one and six unrecorded co-morbid conditions in at least two-thirds of those certified as dying solely from old age. Implications: if this experience were reflected throughout the country, it would suggest significant underestimation of the incidence of medical conditions, with resultant effects on national and international health policy and investment. RV failure is an important predictor of survival in patients with cardiovascular disease. This review article will give a broad overview of the main RV pathology to general radiologists in particular those that manifest in adulthood. Study Question: Is there a difference in testicular function in early adulthood between men born with cryptorchidism and men born with normally descended testes?Summary Answer: In men from the general population, a history of cryptorchidism was associated with lower total testis volume and impaired semen quality as well as altered serum levels of reproductive hormones.What Is Known Already: The association between cryptorchidism and testicular function is well documented in studies based on sub-fertile or infertile men recruited from a clinical setting. However, the association has not previously been investigated in men from the general population, who were unselected regarding fertility status.Study Design, Size, Duration: This is a cross-sectional population-based study of 6376 young Danish men examined from 1996 to 2017.Participants/materials, Setting, Methods: This study is based on young men from the greater Copenhagen area, Denmark (median age of 19 years) who were unselected regarding fertility status and semen quality. The young men delivered a semen sample, had a blood sample drawn and underwent a physical examination including assessment of testis volume. Participants completed a questionnaire regarding cryptorchidism at birth, current lifestyle and their mother's pregnancy, after consulting their mother. The differences in markers of testicular function, including testis volume, semen parameters and reproductive hormones between men with and without a history of cryptorchidism were investigated with multiple linear regression analyses.Main Results and the Role Of Chance: The participation rate was 24% for the entire study period. Overall, a history of cryptorchidism was associated with reduced testicular function. In the adjusted models, a history of cryptorchidism was associated with a 3.5 ml lower total testis volume, determined by orchidometer (P < 0.001), 28% lower sperm concentration (95% CI: -37 to -20) and 26% lower inhibin B/FSH ratio (95% CI: -50 to -22) compared to men without a history of cryptorchidism, suggesting a reduced spermatogenetic capacity. Men with a history of cryptorchidism also had a slightly reduced Leydig cell function expressed as a 6% lower testosterone/LH ratio (95% CI: -12 to -0.7). The significant effect sizes and different markers of testicular function pointing in the same direction across the different models based on a large sample size support that the results are not chance findings.Limitations, Reasons For Caution: Information on cryptorchidism at birth and treatment modus was obtained by retrospective self-report, and each participant only delivered one semen sample.Wider Implications Of the Findings: The results suggest that men with a history of cryptorchidism could be at increased risk of experiencing fertility problems. Every year, the majority of Hong Kong young adults who graduate from secondary school progress onto tertiary education. Poor eating patterns among young adults could lead to long-term health implications associated with overweight and obesity. Using the socio-ecological model as a theoretical framework, this paper reviews the current food-related policies in Hong Kong and proposes a comprehensive policy approach relevant to a variety of organizational contexts that has the potential to support positive eating patterns among young adults by enhancing the local food environment. Hong Kong has an unusual food supply in that more than 95% of food is imported, making it vulnerable to food insecurity. Education interventions commonly conducted in Hong Kong are unlikely to be helpful because young adults acquire nutrition-related knowledge when they attend secondary school. There is a need to change the food environment in Hong Kong so that young adults can easily translate their nutrition knowledge into making healthy food choices. Policy approaches might be among the most effective strategies for bringing positive changes in eating patterns because they have the potential to directly influence the food environment and context where an individual lives. A comprehensive suite of approaches that fill the policy gaps, remove barriers of healthy food consumption and create more healthy food choices is required to improve diet and health. The interaction between males and females (adults and/or larvae) of Caecognathia sp., a parasite of fishes, was studied in the laboratory to investigate the attraction of the opposite sexes and the induction of metamorphosis to adults. We reared the third-stage larvae collected by a light trap to develop them into adults. Their sex ratio was 104 males to 100 females, suggesting that females and males have similar fitness. The attraction experiments using an experimental chamber demonstrate that adult males attract female larvae that were also attracted by the dichloromethane extract of males but not the female extract. The males also induce the praniza females to develop into adults. When there are no males present, females can prolong the larval phase and moreover can spontaneously start to develop into adults after the prolonged larval phase. As in other isopods, the gnathiid female is supposed to be able to copulate immediately after metamorphosis, and the timing of metamorphosis is therefore crucial. The prolongable larval phase in the gnathiid female could be an adaptation to a polygynous, semelparous system and brief copulatory phase after the metamorphosis into adult female. This paper describes a conceptual framework in music therapy with adults with severe and profound levels of intellectual disability. Drawing from Carl Rogers' person-centered work and his notion of the good life as a direction, the author presents four core relational experiences (curiosity, invitation, celebration, and recognition) that underpin the therapeutic process with this client population. Case vignettes from the author's clinical work illustrate how core experiences are presented through improvisational musical experiences. Considerations are given to the clinical significance of good-life-oriented experiences on the emotional health of individuals with severe and profound intellectual disability, and to its implications beyond the music therapy space. This paper presents the results of an effort to raise the response rate for a national survey of adults aged 40 years or older about a number of issues related to Medicare costs. The survey was initially planned as a list-assisted random digit dialing telephone survey, but when the early response rate experience was low, nonrespondents were sent a paper version of the survey by mail with a $10 incentive and asked to respond. The result was that about half of the telephone nonrespondents for whom we had a mail address returned a mail survey, and the 24 percent telephone response rate was raised to 58 percent overall. Moreover, of the sixteen key estimates on which the survey was focused, seven were significantly different as a result of the mail returns. Our experience demonstrates the potential for mail protocols to improve response rates on national surveys and provides another example of low response rates having important effects on the estimates made from survey data. Focus of Presentation Cohort study recruitment can be complex, often requiring extensive pre-screening to recruit sufficient numbers of exposed and unexposed participants. We discuss a prospective study of the impact of racism on adult health in New Zealand (NZ), with emphasis on propensity-score based sampling and recruitment methods accessing participants from a national survey (NZ Health Survey 2017/18, n = 12,530 eligible adults). Discussion will cover sampling design, response rate, and confounder balance in the final sample. Key empirical results will be summarised. Findings The NZHS provided a sampling frame with complete baseline exposure and covariate data, giving n = 2,099 exposed individuals (reported racial discrimination on NZHS). A propensity-score model (stratified by ethnicity) allowed invitation of unexposed individuals balanced on key sociodemographic confounders. Recruitment used postal invitations with telephone follow-up: individuals could respond by paper survey, online questionnaire or telephone interview. Response rate was 54%, with comparable rates in exposed/unexposed individuals, with key sociodemographic factors well-balanced by exposure status. Conclusions/Implications Racism is an important determinant of health inequity, with limited prospective research in New Zealand. Our approach enabled appropriate recruitment from a sampling frame with baseline exposure status (NZHS), including allowance for exposure variability by ethnicity. Propensity-score matching on baseline covariates allowed for balance on key confounders at invitation, with balance maintained in the final sample.
