Objective: Aberrant expression of CD276 has been reported in malignant tumors. However, the exact role and mechanisms of CD276 influence the progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) still need to be understood. Methods: Bioinformatics analysis of data from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus databases, along with immunohistochemistry staining, was used to explore the expression patterns of CD276 in ESCC. Cell counting kit-8 and Transwell assays were employed to evaluate the effects of CD276 expression on tumor cell proliferation and motility. Western blotting and Transwell assays were used to explore the potential pathways through which CD276 mediates the progression of ESCC. Moreover, the in vivo role of CD276 in tumor progression was investigated by establishing a lung metastasis mouse model. Results: A significant upregulation of CD276 was observed in ESCC tissues compared to adjacent tissues. The inhibition of CD276 had no evident impact on ESCC cell proliferation but notably hindered their migratory and invasive properties and the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers. Inversely, overexpressing CD276 led to an upregulation of EMT markers, underscoring the capacity of CD276 to amplify the motility of ESCC cells. Furthermore, CD276 was found to enhance the migratory and invasive abilities of ESCC cells by activating the TGF-β/SMAD signaling but not the PI3K/AKT pathway. In vivo studies demonstrated that CD276 facilitates pulmonary metastasis. Conclusion: CD276 is significant upregulation in ESCC tissues and facilitates the EMT process in ESCC cells via the TGF-β/SMAD signaling, thus promoting the progression of ESCC. Distyly is a unique representative type of heterostyly in plants, primarily characterized by the presence of long style and short style within the flowers of the same species. This interesting trait has always fascinated researchers. With the rapid development of molecular biology, the molecular mechanism for the production of dimorphic styles in plants is also gaining ground. Researchers have been studying plant dimorphic styles from various perspectives. The researchers are gradually unravelling the mechanisms by which plants produce distyly traits. This paper reviews advances in the study of plant dimorphic style characteristics, mainly in terms of the morphology, physiology and molecular biology of plants with dimorphic styles. Primula obconica is a perennial herbaceous flower of the Primulaceae that exhibits distinct heterostyly. Long(L)- and short(S)-styled morphs differ substantially in various ways, which can directly affect the genetic regulation of plants. We can improve genetic breeding by understanding their differences and the genetic mechanisms of heterostyly. This trial of P. obconica, which included material and morphological observation, cross-fertilization characteristics, and ISSR molecular markers, was carried out to analyze the difference in distyly comprehensively. The findings demonstrated that the pollen, anther and other floral characteristics of L- and S-morphs varied. The results of the breeding characteristics showed that there were different self-incompatible mechanisms between both morphs, the L-morphs showed partial fitness, while the S-morphs showed complete heteromorphic incompatibility. The ISSR analysis also revealed that 19 primer pairs were polymorphic, clearly banded, and stable, showing significant differences in molecular markers for different morphs. Purpose: Currently, the choice of contralateral prophylactic mastectomy (CPM) for breast cancer patients is variable and controversial. Breast cancer patients must make complex and rapid decisions based on the benefits and risks of CPM. Although there are many qualitative studies on the decision-making experiences of breast cancer patients, there is a lack of synthesis of these qualitative studies. Our study goals were to conduct a meta-synthesis of qualitative studies on the decision-making experiences, real-life experiences, psychological feelings and needs of breast cancer patients in CPM decision-making, with the aim of providing information to support the development of CPM practice decisions. Methods: Using a meta-ethnographic approach, qualitative research studies were analysed and synthesised using the method of “reciprocal translational analysis”, and themes related to the decision-making experiences of breast cancer patients with respect to CPM were identified. Results: Five hundred ninety-three documents were retrieved. This meta-synthesis ultimately collected 8 studies. Four themes were identified: (1) decision motivations for survival and body intention; (2) negative and vacillating decision emotions; (3) diverse but weak decision support; (4) short-term satisfaction but long-term unknown and differentiated decision effects. Conclusions: We found that although patients had different feelings about the effects of CPM in detail, most patients were satisfied with the short-term effects of CPM, but the long-term effects of CPM were still unknown. Fluorinated graphene/NiCo2O4 nanorods composite was first fabricated through a two-step hydrothermal method combined with thermal annealing treatment. The as-prepared composite has been characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM, EDS and electrochemical measurements. The results indicated NiCo2O4 nanorods were disorderly entangled with fluorinated graphene sheets. Served as electrode material, the composite showed high specific capacitance (1356 F/g at 1A/g), and superior cycle stability (remained 91% capacity after 3000 cycles at 5A/g). The excellent electrochemical performances may be due to the synergistic effect between the good electrical conductive fluorinated graphene and nanorod structure of NiCo2O4 particles. Purpose: Silent new ischemic cerebral lesions (sNICL) detected by diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) are common after carotid artery stenting (CAS). As part of the Revascularization of Extracranial Carotid Artery Stenosis (RECAS) study, this work aimed to determine predictors of sNICL detected by DWI following CAS. Methods: A total of 694 patients eligible for the RECAS study treated in Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University, with complete imaging data were included in this retrospective study. The patients were asymptomatic after CAS, and those with stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), or death were excluded. The RECAS protocol specified that DWI was completed 1–7 days before the procedure and within 3 days after CAS. Several parameters were assessed for associations with sNICL occurrence after CAS in univariate analysis. Finally, multivariate analysis was performed to determine risk factors for sNICL. Results: The rate of post-procedural sNICL in CAS was 51.3% (356/694 patients with sNICL). All patients underwent stenting with embolic protection devices. Univariate analysis showed that diabetes mellitus (P = 0.008), ipsilateral calcified plaques (P = 0.036), ipsilateral ulcerated plaques (P = 0.026), pre-dilatation (P = 0.003), and open-cell stent use (P < 0.001) were significantly associated with sNICL occurrence in CAS. Multivariate analysis revealed that diabetes mellitus (P = 0.006), ipsilateral calcified plaques (P = 0.024), ipsilateral ulcerated plaques (P = 0.021), and open-cell stent use (P < 0.001) were independent risk factors for sNICL. Conclusions: Patients with diabetes, calcified or ulcerated plaques who undergo CAS with open-cell stent application, are at high risk of sNICL. Bacteria are an enormous and largely untapped reservoir of biosensing proteins. We describe an approach to identify and isolate bacterial allosteric transcription factors (aTFs) that recognize a target analyte and to develop these TFs into biosensor devices. Our approach utilizes a combination of genomic screens and functional assays to identify and isolate biosensing TFs, and a quantum-dot Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) strategy for transducing analyte recognition into real-time quantitative measurements. We use this approach to identify a progesterone-sensing bacterial aTF and to develop this TF into an optical sensor for progesterone. The sensor detects progesterone in artificial urine with sufficient sensitivity and specificity for clinical use, while being compatible with an inexpensive and portable electronic reader for point-of-care applications. Our results provide proof-of-concept for a paradigm of microbially-derived biosensors adaptable to inexpensive, real-time sensor devices. CO oxidation has been investigated on three CuO/CeO catalysts prepared by impregnation, co-precipitation and mechanical mixing. The origin of active sites was explored by the multiple techniques. The catalyst prepared by impregnation has more highly dispersed CuO and stronger interactions between CuO and CeO to promote the reduction of CuO to Cu species at the Cu-Ce interface, leading to its highest catalytic activity. For the catalyst prepared by co-precipitation, solid solution structures observed in Raman spectra suppress the formation of the Cu-Ce interface, where the adsorbed CO will react with active lattice oxygen to form CO, and thus it displays a lower catalytic performance. No Cu-Ce interface exists in the catalyst prepared by the mechanical mixing method due to the separate phases of CuO and CeO, resulting in its lowest activity among the three catalysts. Mechanical integrity of the interfacial region between ceramic coatings and substrates is critical to high performance coated mechanical components and manufacturing tools. Mechanical failure of the coating/substrate interfacial region often leads to catastrophic failure of the coated system as a whole. Despite extensive research over the past two decades, quantitative assessment of the mechanical response of coating/substrate interfacial regions remains a challenge. The lack of reliable protocols for measuring the mechanical response of coating/substrate interfacial regions quantitatively hampers the understanding of key factors controlling the mechanical integrity of coating/substrate interfaces. In this paper, we describe a new micro-pillar testing protocol for quantitative measurement of critical stresses for inducing shear failure of interfacial regions in ceramic-coating/metal-adhesion-layer/substrate systems. We observe significant differences in the critical stress for shear failure of interfacial regions in CrN/Cu/Si, CrN/Cr/Si, and CrN/Ti/Si systems. The effect of TiO on the crystallization behaviors of the glass ceramics prepared from granite tailings was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The results showed that the crystallization peak temperature decreased firstly, and then increased with the increase of TiO content. The optimum addition amount of TiO was 8 wt%. With a single-step heat treatment at 924 °C for 1 h, augite precipitated as the only crystalline phase both on the surface and in the interior. The avrami parameter of the sample was 3.25, suggesting a two-dimensional crystallization mechanism. The activation energies for phase separation and crystallization of augite were 321.75 and 698.83 kJ/mol, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Vestibular schwannomas (VSs) are benign tumors arising from eighth cranial nerve and most often occur sporadically in individuals of middle age group. Sporadic VSs are rarely reported in the young population. In this study, we evaluated clinical behaviors of 12 young sporadic VSs by the statistical comparison with a matched series of 145 adult cases. We found that young tumors were characterized by an earlier onset of initial symptom, shorter duration from the first symptom to diagnosis, and larger tumor size than adult ones. Standard sequencing demonstrated the presence of NF2 mutations in eight tumors. All NF2 mutations identified were truncating mutations (nonsense, frameshift, and splicing-site mutations). Earlier formation of VSs in young patients was evidenced by the high incidence of NF2 mutations (66.7 %) far beyond our previous study in the adult case series (34.5 %). Furthermore, young tumors exhibited deficient merlin or heightened phosphorylated merlin that was subsequently demonstrated to be well correlated with increased tumor size. Finally, we compared protein levels of four pathogenesis-related molecules between young and adult group but there was no significant difference. These results led us to suggest that high frequency of NF2 mutations may play a critical role in early tumorigenesis of young VSs. Moreover, merlin deficiency or phosphorylation status of merlin was involved in their earlier development. Further study remains to fully understand the mechanism for the rapid growth of young VSs. The characteristics of skins in different aging processes were obtained by optical coherence tomography (OCT) single scattering model, and their optical parameters were analyzed quantitatively. Significant differences were found in epidermis thickness and attenuation coefficients in chronological aging skins and photonaging skins. These parameters can be served as indicators of skin type as well as the progress of aging. A phase-matched filtering technique is applied to extract fundamental mode signals from Rayleigh waves recorded at 62 digital seismic stations in the Yunnan and Sichuan regions. We use the fundamental mode of vibrations at two stations that are located on the same great circle as the focus to calculate an inter-station attenuation coefficient of the Rayleigh wave with periods between 0. 0 and 80.64 s, and invert for the inter-station S-wave Q-factor ( Q) at depths of 0-200 km. The results indicate that Q in Yunnan is 20-140, presenting a low Q background with apparent lateral variation. Taking the Honghe Fault as the boundary, Q of the crust is only 20 on the west side, extending to a depth of 120 km. The distribution of Q is consistent with large-scale Cenozoic volcanic and intrusive rocks in western Yunnan, implying that the crust and mantle are in the thermally active state. In the eastern Yunnan Block, east of the Xiaojiang Fault, Q in the upper 120 km is 140 in the south but only 20 in the north. Additionally, around the Dukou-Chuxiong in the mid-Yunnan Block, Q in the lithosphere is relatively high at 60-100, corresponding to a stiff crust. This is because the suture between the Indian and Eurasian plates reversed the tension in the rifting stage into the compression of orogenesis, leading to the closure of a gap in the crust. After some time, interstitial fluids gradually disappeared, resulting in a high velocity layer in the crust and low heat flow on the surface. The Yunnan region consists of an obvious block of elevated Q, distributed within the low background, consistent with the distribution of heat-flow values on the surface. The Honghe and Xiaojiang faults are tectonic boundaries in addition to being boundaries between regions of high and low crustal Q. The low Q is probably the result of crustal rupture and disturbance caused by strong earthquakes and the upwelling of hot substances along the deep fault zones. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

new type meso-ZSM-5 composite zeolite with interconnected macropores and skeletons under hydrothermal conditions was prepared through zeolite degraded method. The skeletons can be templated to the morphology of network in different conditions. The physical properties of the meso-ZSM-5 composite zeolite were characterized by XRD, IR, SEM and nitrogen sorption techniques. Catalytic tests show that the meso-ZSM-5 composite zeolite catalyst exhibits high catalytic activity compared with the conventional microporous ZSM-5 zeolites for catalytic cracking of 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene. The high 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene conversion are mainly assigned to the presence of the hierarchical porosity of the pore walls. Striatin-interacting phosphatases and kinases (STRIPAKs) are evolutionarily conserved supramolecular complexes, which have been implicated in the Hippo signaling pathway. Yet the topological structure and dynamic assembly of STRIPAK complexes remain elusive. Here, we report the overall architecture and substructures of a Hippo kinase-containing STRIPAK complex. PP2Aa/c-bound STRN3 directly contacts the Hippo kinase MST2 and also controls the loading of MST2 via two "arms" in a phosphorylation-dependent manner, one arm being STRIP1 and the other SIKE1-SLMAP. A decreased cell density triggered the dissociation of the STRIP1 arm from STRIPAK, reflecting the dynamic assembly of the complex upon sensing upstream signals. Crystallographic studies defined at atomic resolution the interface between STRN3 and SIKE1, and that between SIKE1 and SLMAP. Disrupting the complex assembly abrogated the regulatory effect of STRIPAK towards Hippo signaling. Collectively, our study revealed a "two-arm" assembly of STRIPAK with context-dependent dynamics, offering a framework for further studies on Hippo signaling and biological processes involving MST kinases. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of GP73 as a diagnostic marker for liver inflammation and fibrosis in chronic HBV patients with normal or slightly raised ALT (<2 ULN) and to develop models based on GP73 and other biochemical parameters to improve diagnostic accuracy. Serum GP73 levels were analyzed in 220 chronic HBV patients with normal or slightly raised ALT who underwent liver biopsy. The results showed that the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) was 0.806 for predicting significant liver inflammation (≥G2), while it was 0.742 for predicting significant fibrosis (≥S2). These results suggest that GP73 has higher diagnostic value for liver inflammation than liver fibrosis. Combining GP73, AST and ALB, as a diagnostic model for predicting significant liver inflammation, resulted in superior diagnostic performance over GP73 alone (AUC value increased from 0.806 to 0.854, z = 2.299, P = 0.021). By applying this diagnostic model, over 80% of chronic HBV patients with normal or slightly raised ALT will be correctly identified and hence avoid delay in diagnosis and treatment. Upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) have been extensively explored for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and imaging due to their representative large anti-Stokes shifts, deep penetration into biological tissues, narrow emission bands, and high spatial-temporal resolution. Conventional UCNP-based PDT system, however, utilizes exitation at 980 nm, at which water has significant absorption, leading to a huge concern that the cell killing effect is from the irradiation due to overheating effect. Here we report an efficient nanoplatform using 808-nm excited NaYbF4:Nd@NaGdF4:Yb/Er@NaGdF4 core−shell−shell nanoparticles loaded with Chlorin e6 and folic acid for simultaneous imaging and PDT. At this wavelength, the absorption of water is minimized. High energy transfer efficiency is achieved to generate cytotoxic singlet oxygen. Our nanoplatform effectively kills cancer cells in concentration-, time-, and receptor-dependent manners. More importantly, our nanoplatform is still able to efficiently generate singlet oxygen beneath 15-mm thickness of muscle tissue but 980 nm excitation cannot, showing that a higher penetration depth is achieved by our system. These results imply that our nanoplatform has the ability to effectively kill intrinsic tumor or the center of large tumors through PDT, which significantly improves the anticancer efficacy using UCNP-based PDT system and broadens the types of tumors that could be cured. This study aimed to explore the dyadic associations (including actor and partner effects) among self-efficacy, dyadic coping, and HRQoL of high-risk pregnant women and their spouses and examine the mediating effect of dyadic coping.This cross-sectional study recruited participants from two Grade A tertiary hospitals in China from October 2022 to September 2023. A questionnaire including the Chinese version of the General Self-Efficacy Scale, Dyadic Coping Inventory, and 12 Short Form Health Survey Scales was used for the survey. The actor-partner interdependence mediation model was constructed to test dyadic associations and mediating effects.In the actor effects, self-efficacy was positively associated with dyadic coping and HRQoL (P < 0.05). Regarding partner effects, pregnant women’s self-efficacy was positively associated with spouses’ dyadic coping and physical health (P < 0.05). Dyadic coping partially mediated the relationship between self-efficacy and HRQoL for both groups(P < 0.05).The HRQoL of high-risk pregnant women and their spouses requires urgent attention. Enhancing self-efficacy and dyadic coping in these couples is related to their improved physical and mental health. Healthcare professionals should consider interactions between couples and include them together in perinatal care.
