The Plain of Titu, situated at the passage between the Plain of Târgovişte, in the north, and Vlăsiei Plain, in the south, on the lower courses of Argeş and Dâmboviţa River, represents a subsidence plain, with distinct natural and economic features, reflected in the toponymy of this geographic unit. Thus, we find numerous toponyms coming from the vegetation (phytonyms), from waters (hydronyms), from the pricipal forms of relief (oronyms), and sometimes even from the lithological makeup of the land, which reflects as faithfully as possible the vegetation type, dominated by hydrophilic and hygrophilic species (Zăvoiu, Plopu, Sălcioara, Trestieni etc), the excess of humidity given by the underground water-bearing structures or the precipitations (Puţu cu Salcie, Baiu, Hleşteu, Bălteni etc.), the monotonous relief, which includes numerous dry valleys, depressions and hills (La Podişoru, Valea Seacă, Valea Moartă) and certain soil features (La Năsprişte). An analysis, albeit brief, of these toponyms, denotes the very interesting way the population understood to describe the natural conditions of this geographic unit, by attributing specific names to each place, very well-defined names, with precise meanings, sometimes even with a qualitative sense (Izvoru Negru / The Black Spring).
