The paper examined the interest rate operations and processes in Nigeria and examined the role of financial development in incentivizing central bank monetary policies from the monetary policy rate to the money market rates, lending rates, and deposit rates. The analysis covered the period from 1981 to 2021 with sub-samples for 1981 to 2011 and 1991 to 2021 to test the consistency of the findings. The findings confirmed that interest rate pass-through is incomplete for Nigeria, albeit to a lower degree in the short run compared to the long run. The reasons for this may be due to interest rate stickiness, problems of asymmetric information, and bank switching costs. Also, the findings confirmed that financial development weakens the impact of monetary policy on the interest rate pass-through process, while the analysis of the asymmetric mean adjustment lags confirmed that changes in the policy rate are transmitted to the deposit and lending rates within the year it was announced. The analysis confirmed that the results across each sub-sample and the robustness tests are consistent with the main analysis. Therefore, it is imperative that policymakers should account for financial development when designing monetary policy effectiveness since it can hinder or strengthen the interest rate monetary policy channel. This paper investigated the influence of subcontracting on innovation and its impact on the performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Onitsha, Nigeria. The paper adopted a number of methods comprising of field observations, reference to relevant literature, and a questionnaire survey of 113 SMEs. Regression, mean and standard deviation were used to analyse the data. In line with the literature, this paper identified seven (7) dimensions of subcontracting assistance from large scale industries to small business firms. The paper found that subcontracting relationship between large scale industries and SMEs is inclined to production and product-related cooperation where the contractors are concerned with meeting fluctuation in demand and shortening long delivery times. This paper concluded by suggesting that subcontracting relationship between SMEs and large scale industries should not be restricted to production, purchase, finance and marketing assistance. Scholars often analyse the Nigerian political economy from class, ethnic, regional, and other analytic perspectives. Racial capitalism is rarely employed to analyse the Nigerian political economy and the endemic identity crises that always lead to hatred, tension, and violent conflicts. Environmental pollution is often not accidental, but deliberate environmental and economic sabotage. This paper sees it as a dimension of environmental racism. This study aims to scrutinize the determinants of household energy consumption needs in Kebbi State, Nigeria. The data for the study were sourced from household heads within the study area. The paper analyzes the determinants of household energy consumption using six energy consumption indicators (household expenditure on energy, electricity, LPG, kerosene, charcoal, and biomass). To analyze the data, the study used descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression (which has rarely been used in this kind of study) which broaden our understanding of social, economic, and environmental perspectives on energy usage. Our empirical strategy indicates that all the instruments used are appropriate based on Cronbach's alpha scale value of greater than 0.9. Education level was found to be a significant factor in energy expenditure by household, electricity, LPG, and kerosene usage, while negatively correlated with biomass usage. A binary logit regression model revealed that household head income, availability of different energy choices, reliability, and affordability are the major determinants of household energy consumption needs. Findings further show that low-income household heads which account for more than 60% of the respondents rely heavily on the traditional methods of biomass to meet their energy needs. The finding further revealed that 72.80% of the respondents confirmed that accessibility is one of the driving forces which determines their energy choice. Based on the findings, the study therefore, recommends the need to ensure the availability and affordability of safer forms of energy as well as invest more in making renewable energy available and affordable. This paper argues that the failure of neoliberal economic policies in Nigeria leads to increasing spate of criminal activities in the country. It explains how such neoliberal economic policies like privatisation, removal of state subsidies and deregulation cripple pre-existing substructure of the Nigerian economy; thereby increasing criminal activities everywhere in Nigeria. While criminal activities are closely associated with neoliberal states, privatisation and deregulation have facilitated the creation of huge unemployed labour by crippling existing industries and local ingenuity which explains the level of economic marginalisation and the stagnant pool characterised by abject poverty in Nigeria. While the state and its allies struggle to maintain their unpopular economic policies by all means, the victims and the unemployed find expression in criminal activities. Well-functioning purchasing arrangements allocate pooled funds to health providers, and are expected to deliver efficient, effective, quality, equitable and responsive health services and advance progress toward universal health coverage (UHC). This paper explores how improvements in purchasing functions in three Nigerian schemes—the Formal Sector Social Health Insurance Program (FSSHIP), the Saving One Million Lives Program for Results (SOML PforR), and Enugu State's Free Maternal and Child Health Program (FMCHP)—may have contributed to better resource allocation, incentives for performance, greater accountability and improved service delivery. The paper uses a case-study approach, with data analyzed using the Strategic Health Purchasing Progress Tracking Framework. Data were collected through review of program documents and published research articles, and semi-structured interviews of 33 key informant interviews. Findings were triangulated within each case study across the multiple sources of information. Improvements in benefits specification and provider payment contributed to some service delivery improvements in all three schemes: higher satisfaction with the quality of care in FSSHIP; increased use of insecticide-treated nets; greater prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission; expanded pentavalent-3 coverage in SOML PforR; and greater service utilization in FMCHP. Resource allocation to public health facilities was enhanced and lines of accountability were better defined. These scheme-level improvements have not translated to system change, because of the small amount of funding flowing through these schemes and the high level of health financing fragmentation. The institutionalization of strategic purchasing in Nigeria to advance UHC will require raising awareness among decision makers, strengthening purchasing agencies' capacity, and reducing fragmentation. This paper focused on applying social network analysis techniques to co-authorship network in order to discover the influencers in Civil engineering research field in Nigeria. It further applies the Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) algorithm to uncover the major research topics in this field. The research used 663 publications downloaded from the Scopus database, with the year of publication ranging from 1968 to 2018, using Nigeria as the case study, Civil and Structural engineering as the field of research. The study was carried out using the centrality measures in network analysis such as degree centrality, closeness centrality, and betweenness centrality for co-authorship network analysis of authors and text mining using the LDA algorithm to discover the research focus of the authors. Also, the relationship between the centrality measures and authors' performance, measured in terms of citation was investigated using regression analysis. The results showed that there was a significantly positive relationship with betweenness centrality and closeness centrality for performance, but a negative relationship with degree centrality. Also the topics discovered using the LDA algorithm helped to reveal the major focus of Civil Engineering research in Nigeria. In conclusion, it is recommended that based on the co-authorship network of civil engineering research in Nigeria, which was found to be a healthy small-world community, the environment discovered can be improved upon to support collaboration and sharing of ideas between researchers in the civil engineering field. This paper examines the effect of financial system development on oil-dominant economy of Nigeria using Zivot-Andrews unit root test and Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model over the period 1981 to 2015. The motivation of this paper is that the study distinguished the impact of financial system development on the non-oil sector from the oil sector. The study also differs from the usual yet unsatisfactory approach of measuring financial system development in Nigeria to build an index as a measure that characterizes the whole development in the financial sector using Principal Components Analysis (PCA). The result reveals that there exist mediating factors that alter the impact of finance on growth. Specifically, the findings indicate that financial system development has a negative and insignificant impact on the growth of oil sector while the influence of financial system development on the growth of non-oil sector is positive and significant. The study therefore recommend that policymakers should channel the high receipts from the export of crude to productive investments through financial institutions that will allocate the resources more efficiently to improve the quality of investment capable of driving growth. This paper investigates the multiscale bidirectional volatility spillover effect between the national stocks and exchange rate markets in four African countries – Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt and Morocco. Our computations involve the wavelet transformation of the empirical series, creation of the regime-dependant conditional volatilities via MS-GARCH model and measurement of the volatility spillover effect in the quantile regression framework. We find an evidence of the bidirectional volatility spillover effect, but the volatility impact from exchange rate market to stock market is stronger in all the African countries, except Nigeria. Regarding the direction from stocks to exchange rate, we report that volatility spillover effect is the strongest in South Africa, because Johannesburg stock exchange is the most developed and liquid market. As for the reverse direction, the spillover effect is recorded in longer time-horizons in the Egyptian and Moroccan cases, which indicates to flow-oriented model, while for South Africa, the effect is found in shorter time-horizons, which is in line with the portfolio-balance theory. In South Africa, investors should protect themselves against exchange rate risk in shorter time-horizons, in Morocco and Egypt in longer time-horizons, while in Nigeria, hedging against exchange rate is not needed. The coronavirus pandemic has caused a shift in how many teaching, learning and research activities are conducted internationally. Lockdowns compelled all education sectors, including higher education (HE), to adopt a variety of online learning practices at short notice. As these changes in practice have implications beyond the pandemic, more needs to be understood about settings across the globe where the move to online may pose particular challenges. This study brings a focus to how lecturers in a college of education in Nigeria responded to the professional demands of lockdowns and developed strategies for managing educational activities that have relevance during and beyond the pandemic itself. The aim of the study reported in this paper was to examine lecturers' perceptions of the management of teaching, learning and research activities during a lockdown, drawing out longer term implications. Data were collected through in-depth, one-to-one interviews with six lecturers from a college of education in Nigeria. Interview data were analysed qualitatively. Detailed analysis indicated that lecturers' strategies included encouraging students to engage in self-directed learning, as they uploaded learning materials on messaging groups and the college's e-learning platform. However, lecturers felt that the quality of teaching and assessment was compromised by factors including: irregular power supply, poor internet connection, high data costs and some students' limited digital skills. A particular concern was students' lack of interaction on the online platforms, which lecturers perceived to result in a more passive teaching and learning process. Lecturers also experienced difficulties undertaking research activities. A range of strategies and implications for the ongoing management of educational activities was discussed. The study offers insights into how some of the challenges encountered could be addressed to support sustainable online and blended teaching and learning in the longer term, in settings internationally where there are barriers to accessing online teaching and learning. Crucial aspects include strengthening educational technology training for lecturers and students, enhancing e-learning platforms for teaching practical courses, and enabling lecturers to develop beneficial and valuable online resources. The advent of the coronavirus pandemic marked a watershed in Nigeria's socio-economic and political milieu, as it created panic in states. Security governance is one of the ingredients of peace and stability in society, but problems sometimes emanate from law enforcement lapses. This paper examined Nigeria's security governance dilemmas during the lockdown enforcement aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 and highlighted the key lessons from the government's approach to security governance during the period. Data are gathered through in-depth interviews, media reports and secondary sources. The qualitative paper combined non-killing theory and social contract theory. There were looting of shops, robbery, and killing by security forces, in Lagos, Warri, Aba, Umuahia and other cities during the lockdown owing to the problem of footprint/access. The findings revealed that, despite surveillance efforts, security governance was undermined by the activities of idle youths, non-state armed groups, and unprofessionalism of security forces. While there was a remarkable decrease in crimes compared with the pre-COVID-19 period, the lockdown did not deter troublemakers from engaging in violent acts, such as armed robbery, police violence, and kidnapping. Adequate palliatives should be provided first at high-risk areas during future lockdowns to prevent security threats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The empirical literature on plot-level adoption of sustainable intensification technologies (SITs), as a package comprising improved crop varieties and good agronomic management practices is thin for dryland crops, such as sorghum. In this paper, we analyze the adoption and impacts of SITs on sorghum yield and net revenue using data from a sample of 1680 households and 3310 plots in the sorghum belt of Nigeria. Our estimates are based on a multinomial endogenous switching regression, which accounts for observable and unobservable sources of selection bias. We find a relatively low joint adoption of both improved sorghum varieties and good agronomic practices. In addition, we find that the adoption of only improved sorghum varieties and the joint adoption of both improved sorghum varieties and good agronomic practices led to a 56 and 102% increase in sorghum yield, respectively, and an 88 and 82% increase in net revenue, respectively. The yield and net revenue effects indicate that there are considerable missing opportunities that sorghum-producing households can harness through the adoption of SITs. Our findings reveal that policies tailored towards promoting the widespread adoption of SITs can lead to considerable productivity gains and economic returns for smallholder sorghum farmers towards improving their welfare. The health burden due to mental health has historically been underestimated with focus on communicable diseases and deaths and little consideration of disability and comorbidity effects of poor mental health. Recent data show increasing trends of mental health disorders as a share of global health burdens and vulnerability of adolescents. This paper aims to explore social determinants of mental health as experienced by adolescent girls, drawing attention to gendered risks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Semi-structured interviews with twenty-two adolescent girls in urban informal settlements in Kenya and Nigeria reveal unique environmental, socio-cultural, economic and educational factors that threatened their mental wellbeing. The pandemic exacerbated these determinants. An equitable recovery will require a consideration of not only disproportional mental health outcomes, but also social determinants that contribute to these outcomes. As more than half of the urban population in sub-Saharan Africa reside in informal settlements, this study has implications for youth-focused mental health interventions in these and similar settings. Young mothers often encounter stigma and discrimination, affecting their lives and that of their children. This paper explores stigma management strategies and their effectiveness for young mothers in rural Nigeria. Ten key informants and 24 young mothers were recruited from Ife-East in South-Western Nigeria. Data from semi-structured interviews showed that societal disapproval of pregnant teenagers and young mothers were common experiences. Women used a range of strategies to actively cope with stigma including: belief in predestination, avoidance, concealment, and cohabitation. These strategies could be seen as tools to mitigate negative stereotypes and discrimination. However, they also had the unintended consequences of compounding many young women’s difficult circumstances and exposing them to adverse outcomes, including gender-based violence, repeat pregnancies, poor mental health, and low uptake of services. The results show the need for policy frameworks to actively combat stigma by addressing the negative framing of early pregnancy and motherhood and promoting supportive environments for young mothers. Health professionals need to be trained to offer de-stigmatising services to encourage young mothers to seek help and reduce pre-existing inequities in access to services, and policies need to include measures that address the rights of young mothers and protect them from violence and abuse. Despite the extensive literature on rural poverty outcome, the labour employment channel has not been carefully investigated for rural Nigeria. The paper used the socioeconomic data from the three waves of the Nigerian General Household Survey Panel (2010/2011, 2012/3013 and 2015/2016 to examine the nature of household employment. By exploiting the panel nature of the data, we used a logit model and fixed effect approach to analyze the factors determining the employment expansion and earnings. From the descriptive statistics, agricultural employment sectoral share remains substantial but declined over the period considered. The study finds that much of the employment in rural Nigeria during the period 2010 to 2015 is farm self-employment. Though declining, it is two times the non-farm employment share and five times wage employment share. Wage employment is least and declining during the period covered. Findings from the econometric analysis suggest rural programmes that promote rural infrastructural, human capital development, networking, higher income and the diversity of income. It is an imperative policy goal to create an enabling environment for productivity and employment-intensive growth across all sectors of the economy particularly in agriculture.. Death registration provides an opportunity for the legal documentation of death of persons. Documentation of deaths has several implications including its use in the recovery of inheritance and insurance benefits. It is also an important input for construction of life tables which are crucial for national planning. However, the registration of deaths is poor in several countries including Nigeria. This paper describes the performance of death registration in Nigeria and factors that may affect its performance. We conducted a systematic literature review of death registration completeness in Nigeria to identify, characterize issues as well as challenges associated with realizing completeness in death registration. Only 13.5% of deaths in Nigeria were registered in 2007 which regressed to 10% in 2017. There was no data reported for Nigeria in the World Health Organization database between 2008 and 2017. The country scored less than 0.1 (out of a maximum of 1) on the Vital Statistics Performance Index. There are multiple institutions with parallel constitutional and legal responsibilities for death registration in Nigeria including the National Population Commission, National Identity Management Commission and Local Government Authorities, which may be contributing to its overall poor performance. We offer proposals to substantially improve death registration completeness in Nigeria including the streamlining and merger of the National Population Commission and the National Identity Management Commission into one commission, the revision of the legal mandate of the new agency to mainly coordination and establishment of standards. We recommend that Local Government authorities maintain the local registries given their proximity to households. This arrangement will be enhanced by increased utilization of information and communications technology in Civil Registration and Vital Statistics processes that ensure records are properly archived. In recent years, Nigeria has experienced increased outbreaks of Monkeypox, Ebola, Lassa fever, and the latest Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. As a result of the epidemics, highly infectious materials such as con- taminated needles, syringes, soiled bandages, and contagious disposable personal protective equipment are on the rise. This has resulted in vast volumes of medical waste generation in Nigeria. This study employs relevant scientific works of litera- ture in scholarly sites of Web of Science and Scopus, governments, and multilateral organizations regulatory guidelines for COVID-19. This is to conduct a critical ana- lysis of COVID-19ʹs impact on medical waste management and disposal measures in Nigeria during the pandemic. Results show that, with over 143.01% increase in less than a year, Nigeria’s daily average COVID-related medical waste increased from 131.24 tons/day in August 2020 to 318.92 tons/day in January 2021, leading to environmental pollution and a high risk of infection among health workers. The paper further highlights the total daily estimates of PPE (facemasks) used during the COVID-19 pandemic as 171,908,091. Medical Waste Management (MWM) chal- lenges persist in most developing and least developed nations as the global popu- lation and healthcare services rise. As it stands, Nigeria’s population is expected to exceed that of the United States by 2050, and with frequent outbreaks of an epidemic, there is a need for an effective MWM plan. Rapid revalidation and appraisal of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) for health care facilities in most developing countries is required. Overdependence on oil revenue has exposed the economy to shocks from oil price variations. In this paper, we investigated the relationship between oil price on the stock prices of oil and gas firms quoted in the Nigerian Stock Exchange market. In doing so, the ARDL and NARDL approach is applied to estimate quarterly data from 2009q1 to 2016q3. The result from the study showed that negative and positive oil price shocks have a positive long-run influence on stock prices (oil & gas). The evidence further showed that the long-run and short-run impact of an oil price increase on the oil and gas stock price index is similar to that of an oil price decrease. The oil and gas stock price responds positively to oil price shocks in the long run. Therefore, the portfolio managers, potential investors and policymakers in the oil-exporting countries should diversify investments to reduce exposure to risk and uncertainty that may arise to disruptions in the demand and supply for oil and gas or during periods of declining oil prices induced by negative global economic events. The main purpose of this study is to shed light on the relationship between corporate governance, tax avoidance, and corporate social responsibility disclosure in emerging and frontier markets Nigeria and Pakistan, respectively. The current study employs a unique set of datasets about 91 companies from the Nigeria Stock Market and 121 companies from the Pakistan Stock Market for the period of ten years from 2011 to 2020. We used a fixed effect regression model to analyze the panel data. From the analysis, we find that corporate social responsibility is positively and significantly associated with tax avoidance in the case of Nigeria. Meanwhile, CSR has a positive but insignificant effect on tax avoidance in the case of Pakistan. However, board nationality shows a positive and insignificant impact on CSR, whereas board independence, board ownership, board diversity, and board size are negatively and insignificantly associated with CSR in Nigerian firms. In the case of Pakistani firms, both board ownership and board independence are positively and insignificantly associated with CSR, though board nationality has a negative but significant relationship with CSR, and board diversity and board size are negatively and insignificantly related to CSR. The paper's findings have vital implications for policymakers, academics, and capital market users in the frontier and emerging economies. Nigeria is experiencing, together with the rest of the world, consequences of relentlessly accelerating technological developments, in the contexts of relative lagging of developments in the Humanities, new discoveries in sciences and technological innovations, advances in medicine, changes in government policies and norms, rapid changes in the society, unhealthy practices in the area of food and agriculture, degradation of the environment as well as climate change. Furthermore, Nigeria as a Member State of UNESCO Bioethics is expected to have a National Bioethics Committee to enhance her participation in global concerns, as well as increase her opportunities to tap into global Bioethics resources. For this Committee to be established, the National Bioethics Framework and Policy Documents must be put in place. This paper discusses the rigorous process of developing the National Bioethics Framework and the National Bioethics Policy Documents as well as the need for a National Bioethics Committee in Nigeria. Mycotoxin contamination of food and feed is a major concern in sub-Sahara African countries, particularly Nigeria. It represents a significant limit to health of human, livestock as well as the international trade. Aflatoxins, fumonisins, ochratoxin, zearalenone, deoxynivalenol and beauvericin are the major mycotoxins recognised in the aetiology of food safety challenges that precipitated countless number of diseases. In Nigeria, aflatoxins and fumonisin found in nearly all crops are the most common mycotoxins of economic and health importance such as sorghum, maize and groundnuts. Thus, consumption of food contaminated with mycotoxins are inevitable, hence the need for adequate regulation is necessary in these frontier economies as done in many developed economies to ensure food safety for human and animals. In low and middle-income countries, especially Nigeria, there is lack of awareness and sufficient information on the risk associated with consequent of mycotoxin contamination on wellbeing of human, animals health and the economy. It is based on the foregoing that this paper summarized the status of mycotoxin present in Nigerian food and feeds relative to the global regulatory standards. This aimed at preventing consuming mycotoxin contaminated food stuff while confronting its associated challenges. This article focuses on the article "Rural-Urban Fertility Differentials in Southern Nigeria: An Assessment of Some Available Evidence," by A. Okore, published in the 1980 issue of the journal "Population Studies." Okore correctly draws attention to the fragmentary nature of fertility studies in Nigeria although he neglects the difficulties of comparing their results. A more crucial omission is that he makes no reference to the ethnic composition of the different regions. When comparing the completed family sizes in Okore's studies several difficulties arise apart from the limitations inherent in cross-sectional data. However, in general his table indicates lower completed fertility for Yoruba women aged 45--49. In the age group 40-44, the mean number of children ever born in the Yorubaland studies range from 4.0 in rural Western Nigeria in 1966 to 6.2 in Dhadike's 1964 Lagos survey. Okore does not indicate the size of the Ibo urban area, Umuahia. which he surveyed, but since the non-Yoruba areas are at a less advanced stage of the urbanization transition than Yorubaland, this obviously has theoretical implications.

Background: The first 12 months following childbirth are a period when a subsequent pregnancy holds the greatest risk for mother and baby, but also when there are numerous contacts with the healthcare system for postnatal care for mother and baby (immunisation, nutrition, etc.). The benefits and importance of postpartum family planning are well documented. They include a reduction in risk of miscarriage, as well as mitigation of (or protection against) low birth weight, neonatal and maternal death, preterm birth, and anaemia. Objectives: The objectives of this paper are to assess patterns and trends in the use of postpartum family planning at the country level, to determine whether postpartum family planning is associated with birth interval and parity, and to identify the health services most closely associated with postpartum family planning after adjusting for socio-economic characteristics. Design: Data were used from Demographic and Health Surveys that contain a reproductive calendar, carried out within the last 10 years, from Ethiopia, Malawi, and Nigeria. All women for whom the calendar was completed and who gave birth between 57 and 60 months prior to data collection were included in the analysis. For each of the births, we merged the reproductive calendar with the birth record into a survey for each country reflecting the previous 60 months. The definition of the postpartum period in this paper is based on a period of 3 months postpartum. We used this definition to assess early adoption of postpartum family planning. We assessed variations in postpartum family planning according to demographic and socio-economic variables, as well as its association with various contact opportunities with the health system [antenatal care (ANC), childbirth in facilities, immunisation, etc.]. We did simple descriptive analysis with tabular, graphic, and 'equiplot' displays and a logistic regression controlling for important background characteristics. Results: Overall, variation in postpartum use of modern contraception was not affected over the years by age or marital status. One contrast to this is in Ethiopia, where the data show a significant increase in uptake of postpartum contraception among adolescents from 2005 to 2011. There are systematic and pervasive equity issues in the use of modern postpartum family planning by education level, place of residence, and wealth quintile, especially in Ethiopia where the gaps are very large. Disaggregation of data also point to significant sub-national variations. After adjusting for socio-economic variables, the most consistent health sector services associated with modern postpartum contraception are institutional childbirth and child immunisation. ANC is less likely to be associated with the use of modern postpartum family planning. Conclusion: Postpartum use of modern family planning has remained very low over the years, including for childbearing adolescents. Our results indicate that improving postpartum family planning requires policies and strategies to address the inequalities caused by socio-economic factors and the integration of family planning with maternal and newborn health services, particularly with childbirth in facilities and child immunisation. The paper reports on an assessment of the mediation effect of a firm's business partnership on procurement planning factors influencing the quality performance of primary healthcare building facilities. A quantitative data collection approach was adopted in the study using structured questionnaires circulated to 520 respondents comprising project managers in the Nigerian construction industry. A stratified proportionate random sampling method was used for the selection of respondents which yielded 370 responses and 357 were used for analysis. Findings were that procurement planning factors influenced the quality performance of primary healthcare building facilities, and the firm's business partnerships mediate the relationship between procurement factors and quality performance of primary healthcare building facilities. This study serves as awareness to governments and other stakeholders in the construction industry on the provision of quality primary healthcare building facilities by leveraging a firm's business partnership as a mediating factor. Findings show that the relationship would enhance the rapid provision of quality healthcare building facilities for the growing population of Nigeria and other developing countries facing similar shortages of quality healthcare building facilities. In Nigeria, two maternal and neonatal health Networks of Care (NOC) focus on extending the reach and quality of routine and emergency maternal and neonatal health services tailored to the different contexts. This paper uses the four domains of the NOC framework—Agreements and Enabling Environment, Operational Standards, Quality, Efficiency and Responsibility, and Learning and Adaptation—to describe the NOC, highlighting how each developed to address specific local needs. In Northern Nigeria, the NOC were established in collaboration among Clinton Health Access Initiative and the government to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Health centers and communities in the network were supported to be better prepared to provide maternal and neonatal care, while birth attendants at all levels were empowered and equipped to stabilize and treat complications. The approach brought services closer to the community and facilitated rapid referrals. The NOC in Lagos State extended the reach of routine and emergency maternal and neonatal health services through organically developed linkages among registered traditional birth attendant clinics, private and public sector facilities, the Primary Healthcare Board, and the Traditional Medicine Board. Traditional birth attendants are registered, trained, and monitored by Apex Community Health Officers, whose responsibilities include collection and review of data and ensuring linkages to postpartum services, such as family planning and immunizations. While differing in their approaches, both NOC provide locally appropriate, pragmatic approaches to supporting women birthing in the community and encouraging institutional delivery to ensure that women and their babies have access to timely, appropriate, and safe services. The paper examines the perceptions and attitudes of undergraduate students in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) towards alternative sexual relationships (ASRs). In most parts of Africa, ASRs are largely frowned against, as most countries on the continent have illegalised the practice. While literature abounds generally on the acceptance or otherwise of ASRs, studies x-raying this subject matter from the perspective of an enthusiastic and explorative youth population among undergraduate students in Nigeria are scanty. The paper adopts descriptive research design and mixed (quantitative and qualitative) method. Structured questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. Data were analysed using inferential and descriptive statistical tools of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Findings show that majority of undergraduate students in OAU (70.4%) hold negative perception of ASRs; and 55.2% of the students hold negative attitude towards ASRs. On gender basis, while more male students (56%) show negative attitude towards ASRs, a lower percentage (54.37%) of female students shows negative attitude towards the practice. The paper also finds that background characteristics (age, gender, religion and level of study) of students do not influence their perceptions and attitudes towards ASRs. In low- and middle-income countries, there is scarcity of validated and reliable measurement tools for health facility management, and many interventions to improve primary health care (PHC) facilities are designed without adequate evidence base on what management practices are critical. This article developed and validated a scorecard to measure management practices at primary health care facilities under the performance-based financing (PBF) scheme in Nigeria. Relevant management practice domains and indicators for PHC facilities were determined based on literature review and a prior qualitative study conducted in Nigeria. The domains and indicators were tested for face validity via experts review and organized into an interviewer-administered scorecard. A stratified random sampling of PHC facilities in three States in Nigeria was conducted to assess the reliability and construct validity of the scorecard. Inter-rater reliability using inter-class correlation (ICC) (1, k) was assessed with one-way ANOVA. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted to assess the construct validity, and an updated factor structure were developed. 32 indicators and 6 management practice domains were initially described. Ordinal responses were derived for each indicator. Data on the scorecard were obtained from 111 PHC facilities. The ICC of mean ratings for each team of judges was 0.94. The EFA identified 6 domains (Stakeholder engagement and communication; Community-level activities; Update of plan and target; Performance management; Staff attention to planning, target, and performance; and Drugs and financial management) and reduced the number of indicators to 17. The average communality of selected items was 0.45, and item per factor ratio was 17:6. Despite a few areas for further refinement, this paper presents a reliable and valid scorecard for measuring management practices in PHC facilities. The scorecard can be applied for routine supervisory visits to PHC facilities, and can help accumulate knowledge on facility management, how it affects performance, and how it may be strengthened. The goal of this study is to respond to Taylor's recognition of the dearth of cross-national advertising and globalization studies in emerging markets. To fill this theoretical gap in the literature, we employ semiology to evaluate the plots and stories used in promoting global consumer culture in television advertisements from the two major economic powers in sub-Saharan Africa: Nigeria and South Africa. Unlike previous cross-national advertising and globalization studies that suggest that advertising is a reflection of cultural and global consumerism values, our findings suggest that advertisements reflect a romanticized view of middle-ground politics promoted by political establishments both at the national and the international level. Industrially, unprocessed crude oil has little or no value. Hence, there is need for a country to have operational petroleum refineries. According to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation annual bulletin, it is expected to have a total refining capacity of 445,000 barrels of oil per day from Nigeria's four conventional refineries. However, the country still records scarcity of refined products as none of the refineries can boast of working above 60% of its design capacity. In an attempt to provide, a solution to the worsening scenario above, modular refineries setup at strategic positions within the country can help. This will boost refining capacity. Although different modular topping refinery configurations exist, this paper examines the simple, pre-flash and the pre-flash pump around reflux scheme in terms of maximum product yield using the Niger Delta Petroleum Resources, Bonny Light, Bonny Medium, Brass and Qua Iboe crude assay. Crude oil characterization using HYSYS® ASPEN was done based on their true boiling points to determine the maximum liquid volume fraction of the different distillates. Simulations of the different crude assay were carried out on the different topping refinery configurations highlighting the variation between characterized and simulated volumetric cuts. The result shows that Niger Delta Petroleum Resources crude will favour the production of liquefied petroleum gas, light naphtha, and diesel. Bonny medium crude will favour the production of gas oil and residue oil while qua iboe and brass will favour the production of kerosene and heavy naphtha, respectively. Background: The benefits of universal access to voluntary contraception have been widely documented in terms of maternal and newborn survival, women's empowerment, and human capital. Given population dynamics, the choices and opportunities adolescents have in terms of access to sexual and reproductive health information and services could significantly affect the burden of diseases and nations' human capital. Objectives: The objectives of this paper are to assess the patterns and trends of modern contraception use among sexually active adolescents by socio-economic characteristics and by birth spacing and parity; to explore predictors of use of modern contraception in relation to the health system; and to discuss implications of the findings for family planning policy and programmes. Design: Data are from the last three Demographic and Health Surveys of Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria. The descriptive analysis focused on sexually active adolescents (15- to 19-year age group), used modern contraception as the dependent variable, and a series of contact points with the health system (antenatal care, institutional delivery, postnatal care, immunisation) as covariates. The multivariate analysis used the same covariates, adjusting for socio-economic variables. Results: There are two different groups of sexually active adolescents: those married or in a union with very low use of modern contraception and lower socio-economic status, and those unmarried, among whom nearly 50% are using modern contraception. Younger adolescents have lower modern contraceptive prevalence. There are significant inequality issues in modern contraception use by education, residence, and wealth quintile. However, while there was no significant progress in Burkina Faso and Nigeria, the data in Ethiopia point to a significant and systematic reduction of inequalities. The narrowing of the equity gap was most notable for childbearing adolescents with no education or living in rural areas. In the three countries, after adjusting for socio-economic variables, the strongest factors affecting modern contraception use among childbearing adolescents were marriage and child immunisation. Conclusions: Addressing child marriage and adopting effective policies and strategies to reach married adolescents are critical for improving empowerment and human capital of adolescent girls. The reduction of the equity gap in coverage in Ethiopia warrants further studies and documentation. The results suggest a missed opportunity for maternal and newborn and family planning integration. Background: Family planning expansion has been identified as an impetus to harnessing Nigeria's demographic dividend. However, there is a need for data to address pockets of inequality and to better understand cultural and social factors affecting contraceptive use and health benefits. This paper contributes to addressing these needs by providing evidence on the trends and sub-national patterns of modern contraceptive prevalence in Nigeria and the association between contraceptive use and high-risk births in Nigeria. Design: The study utilised women's data from the last three Demographic and Health Surveys (2003, 2008, and 2013) in Nigeria. The analysis involved descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate analyses. The multivariate analyses were performed to examine the relationship between high-risk births and contraceptive use. Associations were examined using Poisson regression. Results: Findings showed that respondents in avoidable high-risk birth categories were less likely to use contraceptives compared to those at no risk [rate ratio 0.82, confidence interval: 0.76-0.89, p <0.001]. Education and wealth index consistently predicted significant differences in contraceptive use across the models. Conclusions:. The results of this study suggest that women in the high-risk birth categories were significantly less likely to use a modern method of contraception relative to those categorised as having no risk. However, there are huge sub-national variations at regional and state levels in contraceptive prevalence and subsequent high-risk births. These results further strengthen evidence-based justification for increased investments in family planning programmes at the state and regional levels, particularly regions and states with high unmet needs for family planning. This paper presents the findings of the study of socioeconomic characteristics of the users in metropolitan Lagos. Specifically, it provides detailed analysis of the public transport users, disaggregated by gender, marital status, age, education level, employment, income, auto-ownership and household size, with a view to engender the identification of groups of passengers who exhibit similar behaviours. The identification of these groups can help establish regular patterns in the way passengers use public transit and characterize the demand accordingly. The average user was male (60.3%), aged 32.9 ± 0.289 years, with an average income of N57,140.55 ± 1,446.86 and household size of 4.92 ± 0.052 persons, having acquired 12.84 ± 0.119 years of formal education, traveling 25.479 ± 0.4307 kilometres daily in 110.29 ± 3.318 minutes on public transport on an average cost of N712.83 ± 29.749. The paper concludes that without a clear understanding of these patterns, it would be difficult to make accurate demand forecast, necessary for service planning and policy formulation. Background: From conception to 6 months of age, an infant is entirely dependent for its nutrition on the mother: via the placenta and then ideally via exclusive breastfeeding. This period of 15 months - about 500 days - is the most important and vulnerable in a child's life: it must be protected through policies supporting maternal nutrition and health. Those addressing nutritional status are discussed here. Objective and design: This paper aims to summarize research on policies and programs to protect women's nutrition in order to improve birth outcomes in low- and middle-income countries, based on studies of efficacy from the literature, and on effectiveness, globally and in selected countries involving in-depth data collection in communities in Ethiopia, India and Northern Nigeria. Results of this research have been published in the academic literature (more than 30 papers). The conclusions now need to be advocated to policy-makers. Results: The priority problems addressed are: intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), women's anemia, thinness, and stunting. The priority interventions that need to be widely expanded for women before and during pregnancy, are: supplementation with iron-folic acid or multiple micronutrients; expanding coverage of iodine fortification of salt particularly to remote areas and the poorest populations; targeted provision of balanced protein energy supplements when significant resources are available; reducing teenage pregnancies; increasing interpregnancy intervals through family planning programs; and building on conditional cash transfer programs, both to provide resources and as a platform for public education. All these have known efficacy but are of inadequate coverage and resourcing. The next steps are to overcome barriers to wide implementation, without which targets for maternal and child health and nutrition (e.g. by WHO) are unlikely to be met, especially in the poorest countries. Conclusions: This agenda requires policy decisions both at Ministry and donor levels, and throughout the administrative system. Disasters annually ravage numerous African countries. Flooding is the most severe and prevalent adverse event and has serious implications for sustainable development. As the world is currently facing the COVID-19 pandemic, disasters such as flooding are still occurring but limited attention is being paid. This research analyzes the cause of flooding in Nigeria and Ghana, two countries regularly affected by floods. Previous analysis of the causes of flooding has mainly been done on a national scale. This work adopts a transnational approach by studying the flooding phenomena in both countries. It highlights an opportunity for international partnership in disaster-risk reduction (DRR) as both Nigeria and Ghana are signatories to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction that advocates an understanding of disaster risk and aims to foster international cooperation. Appreciating the root causes of flooding is the first step in building awareness of the common problem that could be the foundation of seeking and adopting solutions. A systematic review of peer-reviewed papers was conducted. This study finds that the underlying drivers of flooding are similar in the two nations and advocates research and data-sharing as ways of partnering to tackle the common problem. This finding has the potential to promote and facilitate capacity building for DRR and flood-risk management (FRM). Potential solutions could also be scaled to other countries of comparable profiles facing related flooding challenges. This approach is likely to yield better and quicker results while presenting opportunities for partnership in achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that has already suffered COVID-19-related setbacks. Deficiencies associated with the proficiency of many Nigerian Built Environment graduates are a source of concern for the nation and academic community. A major factor responsible for the dysfunction are the challenges facing undergraduate students during the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). The purpose of this study is to investigate major challenges confronting students during SIWES and further propose measures to mitigate the challenges. Data was collected using quantitative research methods from 159 undergraduate students spread across six departments of the built environment. The findings reveal that the commitment of instructors, duration of the program, inadequate training resources, menial works allocated to students, and uncomfortable work environment were major challenges confronting the students during SIWES. The study found the need for routine stakeholders' engagement meetings, reevaluation of the program duration, synchronization of policies and regulations, simplified registration and documentation, timely placement of students in relevant organizations, and gender parity. Building contractors' value systems is a powerful force in establishing a construction sector free from corruption. Thus, this study examined the value systems of building contractors and assessed how these systems' psychological impacts affected the construction industry's corruption indicators. Using the theoretical lens of social adaptation theory, this study postulated that a building contractor's tolerance for corruption is psychologically influenced by their value system. Quantitative data were collected from contractors engaged in building and civil engineering projects in Nigeria. Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) was used to test the proposition. The study discovered that the value system of building contractors includes achievement, teamwork, openness, resourcefulness, excellence, precision, efficiency, and self-respect. Results from the MLR showed that none of the values in the value system have very notable effects on corruption indicators. The study's conclusions imply that the building contractors' current value system does not provide the desired level of anti-corruption defense. The conclusions suggest that the building contractors' value system should be modified and reformed through ethical education and professional growth. The study added to knowledge by showing that a value system may not be corrupt-oriented while still lacking the anticipated anti-corruption defense. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines the ways in which the official performance of a masquerade festival in an Èkìtì Yorúbà town in Nigeria depends upon the action of participants taking place away from the performances that the public witnesses. In the Èkìtì Yorúbà town of Ìk[image omitted]lé the biannual masquerade festival is one of the most dramatic ritual events within the town. It examines the way that the formal presentations of masquerade within the official ritual period are underpinned by the contestations that take place behind the scenes of the festival, that in turn rely upon the differing identities that are established in the performance of differing masquerade types. Thus the paper generates a 'backstage' / 'frontstage' approach to the festival and in so doing it places the performance of the participant observer within the analysis arguing that this, within the conditions of the festival is as much a performance as any other part of the performances called upon during the festival. One of the areas of concern for theatre practitioners over the past decade has been the issue of development. There has therefore been a deliberate injection of a development agenda into the medium of drama, whether on stage, screen or radio. While radio drama cannot be considered to be a new practice in Nigeria, the systematic 'hybridization' of drama with other analytical tools of development is a more recent practice. The radio drama experience of the African Radio Drama Association (ARDA) encompasses theatre, dialogue and social discourse, in an attempt to bridge fiction and social reality. This paper is therefore an attempt to examine the contributions of the ARDA in their series Rainbow City through the medium of drama and the organized 'Listeners Groups' across the areas where the broadcast is received. The issues discussed and raised here try to answer the following questions. What is new? What are the prospects of using radio drama to address development issues? Disability encompasses the limitations on an individual’s basic physical activities, and the consequent social oppressions such individual faces in society. In this regard, the limitation on the use of some parts of the genitals in a patriarchal system is considered a form of disability. This paper describes the perceptions of and the coping mechanisms employed by affected couples dealing with the consequences of female genital mutilation (FGM) as a form of sexual disability. Cultural Libertarianism was employed as a theoretical framework. The paper presents the results of a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, with 10 male and 12 female respondents purposively selected through a snowball sampling for in-depth interviews. The findings present the justifications provided for the practice of FGM, and victims’ perceptions of how it affects their sexual relations. Furthermore, it highlights coping strategies employed by affected women and their spouses. The study shows that the disabling consequence of FGM is largely sexual in nature, leading to traumatic experiences and negative beliefs about sex, and requiring a myriad of coping strategies employed by the disabled women, and their spouses, which may have its own implications for marital and sexual bliss. Business managers name Africa's political instability as a key obstacle to economic development, but many companies continue to invest in Africa. The article explains this apparent contradiction by looking at the case of Shell in Nigeria. Nigeria experiences serious political instability, yet Shell is expanding its investment in the country. This article deals with sources of firm-specific political instability that have affected Shell in Nigeria in the past and attempts to explain why a specific corporation such as Shell may want to make investments in the country despite political instability. The examination of three different angles of Shell's activity, which forms the core of this paper, reveals that political instability does not hinder Shell from operating in Nigeria. Firstly, the international perspective illuminates in what way Nigeria may be more attractive to Shell than other countries. Profits in Nigeria appear to be higher than elsewhere, while Shell occupies a dominant market position unrivalled in most other countries. Secondly, the structural perspective illuminates the interconnectedness of Shell with state structures in Nigeria that may tie the company to Nigeria. Shell established a first mover advantage in the 1950s, since Nigeria was a British colony until 1960 and British oil companies were given preferential treatment. After independence, Shell managed to penetrate state structures which helped to hedge political risk in the country. Thirdly, the strategic perspective explores how Shell's strategic approaches may make political instability less significant to Shell. This article concludes that Shell has adopted to political instability. We investigated the knowledge of COVID-19 pathogenesis and prevention, attitude, and adherence to safe clinical practices among radiographers during the pandemic and made some informed policy recommendations. The study was an online cross-sectional survey. The questionnaire captured data on respondents' demographics, knowledge of COVID-19, attitudes, practices, and standard precaution adherence during the pandemic. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation and one-way ANOVA tests. Of the 255 respondents, 17.3% were actively involved in the management of COVID-19 cases. Participants had high scores regarding their knowledge of COVID-19 pathology (82.46 ± 8.67%), prevention (93.43 ± 7.11%) and attitude (74.11 ± 11.61%), but low compliance to safety precautions (56.08 ± 18.56%). Knowledge about COVID-19 prevention strategies differed significantly across educational qualifications, F(3, 251) = 4.62, p =.004. Similarly, levels of compliance with safety precautions differed across educational qualification (F[3, 251] = 4.53, p =.004) and years-in-practice (F[4, 250] = 4.17, p =.003). Participants' adherence to standard COVID-19 precautions was low. The level of professional qualification influenced participants' knowledge and safe practices during the pandemic. Upgrading the aseptic techniques and amenities in practice settings and broadening the infectious diseases modules in the entry-level and continuous professional education may improve radiographers' response to COVID-19 and future pandemics. Radiographers whose qualifications were lower than a bachelor's degree had significantly less knowledge of COVID-19 prevention. Generally, radiographers had a positive attitude towards safe practices during the pandemic, but inadequate education, standard operational guidelines and resources affected their level of adherence. Apart from the shortage of personal protective equipment, poor infrastructural design and inadequate hygienic facilities such as handwashing stations, running water and non-contact hand sanitizer dispensers hampered adherence to COVID-19 precautions in low-resource settings. Infections contribute significantly to neonatal mortality in Nigeria. Community health officers (CHOs) provide maternal, newborn and child health services at the primary health care level. However, newborn infection prevention and control (NB-IPC) is not included in their current training curriculum, which has little innovation in teaching methods. This study assessed the effectiveness of a blended curriculum on NB-IPC in improving the competencies of student CHOs. This pre- and post-test study was conducted in the CHO training school of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), which has 70 students enrolled. We developed and implemented a blended curriculum on NB-IPC using Kern's six-step framework. Twelve videos were recorded of content experts teaching various aspects of NB-IPC and were watched online or downloaded by students. Two interactive practical sessions were held in class. Pre- and post-course assessment of knowledge was with multiple choice questions, attitude with a Likert scale, and skills with an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). Course satisfaction was also assessed with a validated scale. Paired t-test was used to determine mean differences at a significance level of 0.05. The mean knowledge score of students increased from 10.70 (95% confidence interval (CI): 10.15–11.24) pre-course out of a possible score of 20 to 13.25 (95%CI: 12.65–13.84) post-course (p < 0.001). Mean attitude score increased from 63.99 (95%CI: 62.41–65.56) out of a possible score of 70 to 65.17 (95%CI: 63.68–66.67) (p = 0.222). The mean OSCE score increased from 21.27 (95%CI: 20.20–22.34) out of a possible score of 58.5 to 34.73 (95%CI: 33.37–36.09) (p < 0.001). Mean post-course satisfaction score of students was 127.84 (95%CI: 124.97–130.89) out of a possible score of 147. The new curriculum on NB-IPC improved the competencies of student CHOs in LUTH and they were highly satisfied. The blended curriculum may be a feasible addition to learning in CHO schools across Nigeria. In high-HIV burden settings, such as Nigeria, HIV self-testing and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) are often recommended, but not widely practiced. This study aims to identify the predictors of PEP utilization and preferences for HIV self-testing among healthcare workers in Nigeria. A total of 403 healthcare workers from a tertiary hospital in Nigeria completed questionnaires. Adjusted odds ratios were derived from logistic regression models. Among the respondents, 141 (35.0%) reported experiencing at least one workplace exposure incident, with 72 (51.1%) of them receiving PEP. The majority of healthcare workers (n = 354, 87.8%) expressed a preference for HIV self-testing over traditional HIV testing and counseling. The occurrence of exposure incidents was predicted by the respondent's sex (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.25; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.15-3.08, female vs. male), age (aOR = 0. 16; 95% CI: 0.03-0.92, >40 vs. <30 years), profession (aOR = 1.88; 95% CI: 1.18-4.66, nurse/midwife vs. physician), work unit (aOR = 0.06; 95% CI: 0.02-0.23, obstetrics/gynecology vs. surgery), and previous HIV testing and counseling (aOR = 0.01; 95% Cl: 0.004-0.03, no vs. yes). Respondent's profession, work unit, and previous HIV testing and counseling independently predicted a preference for HIV self-testing. Inflationary tendencies of public debt have been the cause of an unsettling debate among policymakers in Nigeria. Using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) framework, this study attempts to investigate the impact of total public debt on inflation in Nigeria for the period 1983–2018. The cointegrating regression results reveal evidence of a stable long-run relationship among inflation, total public debt, money supply, interest rate, economic growth, trade openness, and private investment in the presence of structural breaks. Empirical results show that the impact of public debt on inflation is statistically insignificant, irrespective of whether the regression was in the short or the long run. This paper examines the nature of interconnectedness between the returns of the price of oil and foreign exchange on selected agricultural commodity prices. To do this, the authors leverage the novel methodology of a spillover index developed by Diebold and Yilmaz (2012) that reports predictive directional measurement of volatility spillovers. This study also captures all secular and cyclical movements with the aid of rolling window analysis to ensure the robustness of the estimations. Empirical analyses are constructed based on monthly realised frequency data from 2006M1 to 2016M7. The empirical analysis from the full sample size shows that rice, sorghum, price inflation, a nominal effective exchange rate and oil price display weak pass-through among the investigated variables while banana, cocoa, groundnut, maize, soybean and wheat are net transmitters of spillover. Based on these revelations, several policy prescriptions for the agricultural commodity markets and their diverse responses to either exchange rate fluctuations or a dwindling oil price are suggested for Nigeria. This paper empirically examines the long-run pass through of the official exchange rates into trade balance in Nigeria by means of threshold cointegration and asymmetric error correction modeling. The study provides evidence for non-linear cointegration between our variables of interest. The estimated asymmetric error correction models provide new evidence for slower transmission of exchange rate depreciations into the country's trade balance, which in turn appears to offer partial support for the Dutch disease hypothesis. This finding suggests that policy-makers cannot hope to use currency devaluation to improve the trade balance. It is recommended that policy-makers focus attention on diversification of the economy away from dependence on crude oil exports into productive manufacturing and non-oil exports, which will be vital in making the economy more competitive. This paper explores depression quality of life and emotional abuse as traumatising factors influencing interpersonal relationships of university students in Nigeria. A descriptive research design of correlation type was employed to analyse data collected from 200 sampled participants out of which 115 (57.5%) were male and 85 (42.5%) were female. The results established that depression (χ2 = 6.069: p <.048) had a significant association with less satisfying interpersonal relationships. However, quality of life (χ2 = 383: p >.536) and less emotional abuse (χ2 = 124: p <.725) were not significantly associated with poor interpersonal relationships of the participants. In the final correlation analysis, quality of life (r =.309, p < 0.001) and emotional abuse (r =.197, p < 0.001) significantly correlated with interpersonal relationships, while depression (r = −.393, p < 0.001) had an inverse relationship.
