There is much more to learn from reading the biographical and philosophical writings of leaders in higher education about what education for librarianship was and should be than from the literature of library education itself. This article contains an alphabetical list with annotations of 23 books on exploring the issues and problems of higher education. The list started as 12 and was referred to as "Shera's Twelve Apostles," and has now expanded to 23. The article concludes with a few titles that do not fall within the self-imposed limits of the bibliography, but ought to be mentioned as being important to anyone concerned with library education. Contemporary Native arts are rarely included in global arts settings that highlight any number of other disenfranchised artists seeking to gain recognition and a voice in the form of critical exhibition practice or scholarship. This article argues that Native artists can benefit from an increased participation in these broader arts networks, given the resources and opportunities associated with institutions and organizations that give life and reason to the curation and reception of fine arts. Although the author recognizes the technical and logistical inhibitions for a rapprochement between indigenous arts and the places of its circulation (that is, books, exhibits, collections, and the Internet), in this article she focuses her attention on the philosophical and emotional dimensions of audience reception and its impact on the Native arts world, implicating the gaze and problematizing key qualitative values that have largely remained unexplored in our field. Importantly, these values include emotional and imaginative saliences that may simultaneously attract and hold at bay the mutual exchanges implicated in the gaze. Her analysis highlights lens-based artistic practice, the power of biography, and the curatorial strategies of embodiment, including the senses, possession, and emotional connections. The iconic placeholder of "the blood" as an organizing principle is identified as a productive means of articulating the interior renderings of an indigenous aesthetic and recognizing the essential saliences of communal place-based logics and current political realities. These papers discuss Lowe's approach to political economy and contributions in literary works dealing with the economy in traverse and with problems of balancing freedom and order in context to economy and society. The book, on a whole, reportedly is Lowe's biography with illustrating various economic theories of growth and business cycles provided by him. The summer program did not officially start until 8:00 a.m., so when I arrived at 7:30 I put out wooden blocks, ramps with marbles, and other manipulatives for children to explore and build with as they entered the room. "Humpty Dumpty" played on a CD as everyone arrived. As the 5- and 6-year-olds came into the room, they returned class library books and found new books to take home. I was walking around the room preparing materials when Annie, who is White, stopped me to ask some questions about Rosa Parks. She was having a hard time understanding why White people would create a law that forbade African Americans from sitting where they wanted to sit on a bus. We looked together at the Rosa Parks biography that I had read to the class the previous day. I pointed out some of the photographs that showed separate water fountains for Whites and Blacks. We discussed the photographs of African American people with angry faces. As the conversation continued, Annie kept asking why a law would be created that separated people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents the author's views on the book "The Road to Botany Bay," by Paul Carter. Carter's biography of early Australian explorers recaptured the strangeness inherent in the act of discovery. The author states that for all of Carter's close attention to the internal terrain of his subjects' wanderings, his book is often distant from the material world itself. He evokes the explorers' bewilderment when facing the monotonous horizontality of treeless plains or rivers that vanished into desert sands. The author further informs that Carter wisely concludes that aboriginal history cannot be treated as a subset of white history. But Carter then denies that Aborigines might have their own history since contact. Any attempt whatsoever to recapture the aboriginal past would be a symbolic history standing in a metaphorical relationship to the history the Aborigines tell themselves. Toward the end of the book, Carter turns to Australia's first peoples, the Aborigines. Europeans did not recognize the Aborigines as literate because they had no recognizable written language, an absence that allowed Europeans to impose their own names on the land, often with native collusion.
