Knowledge of medicinal plant species is necessary to preserve medicinal plants and safeguard biodiversity. The classification and identification of these plants by botanist experts are complex and time-consuming activities. This systematic review's main objective is to systematically assess the prior research efforts on the applications and usage of deep learning approaches in classifying and recognizing medicinal plant species. Our objective was to pinpoint systematic reviews following the PRISMA guidelines related to the classification and recognition of medicinal plant species through the utilization of deep learning techniques. This review encompassed studies published between January 2018 and December 2022. Initially, we identified 1644 studies through title, keyword, and abstract screening. After applying our eligibility criteria, we selected 31 studies for a thorough and critical review. The main findings of this reviews are (1) the selected studies were carried out in 16 different countries, and India leads in paper contributions with 29%, followed by Indonesia and Sri Lanka. (2) A private dataset has been used in 67.7% of the studies subjected to image augmentation and preprocessing techniques. (3) In 96.7% of the studies, researchers have employed plant leaf organs, with 74% of them utilizing leaf shapes for the classification and recognition of medicinal plant species. (4) Transfer learning with the pre-trained model was used in 83.8% of the studies as a future extraction technique. (5) Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is used by 64.5% of the paper as a deep learning classifier. (6) The lack of a globally available and public dataset need for medicinal plants indigenous to a specific country and the trustworthiness of the deep learning approach for the classification and recognition of medicinal plants is an observable research gap in this literature review. Guava fruit cultivation is crucial for Asian economic development, with Indonesia producing 449,970 metric tons between 2022 and 2023. However, technology-based approaches can detect disease symptoms, enhancing production and mitigating economic losses by enhancing quality. In this paper, we introduce an accurate guava fruit disease detection (GFDI) system. It contains the generation of appropriate diseased images and the development of a novel improved convolutional neural network (improved-CNN) that is built depending on the principles of AlexNet. Also, several preprocessing techniques have been used, including data augmentation, contrast enhancement, image resizing, and dataset splitting. The proposed improved-CNN model is trained to identify three common guava fruit diseases using a dataset of 612 images. The experimental findings indicate that the proposed improved-CNN model achieve accuracy 98% for trains and 93% for tests using 0.001 learning rate, the model parameters are decreased by 50,106,831 compared with traditional AlexNet model. Purpose: This paper aims to develop a coffee supply chain traceability system based on Blockchain (BC) and Machine Learning (ML) with the aim of ensuring the quality of coffee beans production. BC functions to ensure supply chain performance, while the ML model ensures product quality. Design/methodology/approach: Smart Contracts will be built on the Ethereum Virtual Machine BC network based on Ethereum. The ML model to identify good and bad green coffee beans will be built using different YOLO algorithms, which will go through training and validation stages, namely using the k-fold cross validation method. The ML model algorithm is based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) using YOLOv5m, YOLOv6m and YOLOv7. The best model will be chosen based on the results of cross-validation with test data in the form of coffee image data that the model has never seen (unseen data). The whole process of building the ML model is done on the Google Collab Pro+ Virtual Machine. Findings: YOLOv5m outperformed the other models in both non-augmented and augmented training datasets, highlighting the proficiency of YOLOv5m in managing compact datasets and its resilience in the face of data augmentation, positioning it as a prime selection for quality discernment tasks within the realm of green coffee beans. The smart contracts offer an all-encompassing approach for user management, monitoring product status, and presenting traceability data within the framework of coffee plantation administration. Originality/value: This research contributes to the development of blockchain network as a solution to implement traceability systems along coffee supply chains in Indonesia. Moreover, it shows that while blockchain can ensure the process of production along the coffee supply to follow certain guidelines, machine learning can verify whether the product that was produced by utilizing BC is of high quality/acceptable. Indonesia is a tropical country that experiences forest fires every year. Forest fires occur due to a prolonged summer season. A major effect of forest fires that commonly occurred in Indonesia is the respiratory disorder and the visual impairment caused by the thick smoke that can experienced by the people who lives around the forest. The effects of forest fire fumes when the forest fire spread across the bigger land or area are also experienced by neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. Forest is a habitat for many animals, one of which is a bird. Birds are able to communicate with their colonies through sound. The bird sound during communication to the group can be in the form of calls, marriage invitations, and warnings of danger or threat of forest fires. This paper presents bird sounds classification study using one of Deep Learning (DL) algorithms i.e. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) method. The CNN method is used to classify bird sounds in the two conditions: (1) under normal circumstances or conditions, and (2) under threated or panic condition. The bird sound data used in this study were collected from the local birds in Indonesia. The classification result of two bird sounds based on CNN method achieved up to 96.45%. Indonesia is one of the archipelago countries located in Asia and it has diverse cultures. In modern society, Indonesian traditional houses have become rare and need to be preserved. This research is conducted to build a digital collection and to develop an image-based automatic recognition system for Indonesian traditional houses. In this paper, the traditional house images are collected in several ways: on-site image captures, receiving images from volunteers, and collecting public images from Google. The dataset is limited to the collection of building shape images, excluding the interior design. The authors implement Convolutional Neural Networks (ConvNets) to build a model for an automatic recognition system. The experiments run some deep network models: VGG, DenseNet, Inception, Xception, MobileNetV2, NasNetMobile, and EfficientNet. The experiments involve 1526 images of 16 classes. EfficientNet-Lite0 outperforms other models and produces the average F1-score and accuracy of 90.1% and 91.8%, respectively. ConvNets also outperform conventional classifiers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Technology development has been getting more advanced and greatly facilitated human life. One of them is machine learning automation which has been proven to be consistent for doing various computations against extensive data such as transaction data in the e-commerce area. Seeing this opportunity, we implemented the machine learning approach to detect fraudulent cashback transactions in e-commerce that are currently rife in Indonesia. The training data used to build the machine learning model were the transaction data from one of the leading e-commerce in Indonesia that had been processed. The supervised classification algorithms used were K-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). Deforestation in Indonesia is in a status that is quite alarming. From year to year, deforestation is still happening. The decline in fauna and the diminishing biodiversity are greatly affected by deforestation. This paper proposes a bioacoustics-based forest quality assessment tool using Nvidia Jetson Nano and convolutional neural networks (CNN). The device, named GamaDet, is a portable physical product based on the microprocessor and equipped with a microphone to record the sounds of birds in the forest and display the results of their analysis. In addition, a Google Collaboratorybased GamaNet digital product is also proposed. GamaNet requires forest recording audio files to be further analyzed into a forest quality index. Testing the forest recording for 60 seconds at an arboretum forest showed that both products could work well. The GamaDet takes 370 seconds, while the GamaNet takes 70 seconds to process the audio data into a forest quality index and a list of detected birds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Several studies have focused on generating seismic vulnerability maps for earthquake-prone areas, particularly in Indonesia. Building typologies are a key factor in determining vulnerability to earthquakes. However, conducting large-scale field surveys to determine the spatial distribution of building typologies in a city is uneconomical. This paper explores the use of a convolutional neural network (CNN) to automatically detect building typologies from diverse regions in Indonesia, utilizing both conventional and automated building image acquisition processes. In this study, datasets from three distinct image acquisition methods are trained with four unique CNN architectures to identify the best-performing model to classify building typologies. The sample size effect on CNN performance is also investigated. The results showed that randomly sampled Google Street View (GSV) images are the most effective dataset for the CNN model, achieving an f1-score of 84.33%. Among the network architectures tested, MobileNet demonstrated superior performance on the majority of evaluated datasets. As the sample size increases by about 350% in the dataset, there is a positive correlation with up to 2.3% f1-score improvement. Using the best-performing CNN model, two building vulnerability models were employed to assess the spatial distribution of building damage in the urban area of Bandung, considering a hypothetical scenario of an M7 earthquake. Incorporating local construction data, one of the generated maps estimated that approximately 55% of buildings in Bandung would experience moderate to severe structural damage. Automation of 3D LiDAR point cloud processing is expected to increase the production rate of many applications including automatic map generation. Fast development on high-end hardware has boosted the expansion of deep learning research for 3D classification and segmentation. However, deep learning requires large amount of high quality training samples. The generation of training samples for accurate classification results, especially for airborne point cloud data, is still problematic. Moreover, which customized features should be used best for segmenting airborne point cloud data is still unclear. This paper proposes semi-automatic point cloud labelling and examines the potential of combining different tailor-made features for pointwise semantic segmentation of an airborne point cloud. We implement a Dynamic Graph CNN (DGCNN) approach to classify airborne point cloud data into four land cover classes: bare-land, trees, buildings and roads. The DGCNN architecture is chosen as this network relates two approaches, PointNet and graph CNNs, to exploit the geometric relationships between points. For experiments, we train an airborne point cloud and co-aligned orthophoto of the Surabaya city area of Indonesia to DGCNN using three different tailor-made feature combinations: points with RGB (Red, Green, Blue) color, points with original LiDAR features (Intensity, Return number, Number of returns) so-called IRN, and points with two spectral colors and Intensity (Red, Green, Intensity) so-called RGI. The overall accuracy of the testing area indicates that using RGB information gives the best segmentation results of 81.05% while IRN and RGI gives accuracy values of 76.13%, and 79.81%, respectively. At the moment, there are increasing trends of using deep learning for plant diseases detection. However, their implementations may be difficult in developing countries due to several reasons. First, existing deep learning models are usually trained with images with adequate resolutions. In developing countries however, with limited internet connection, models that would perform well even when data with low resolution are used are needed. Secondly, the generated models are large. Hence, most deep learning based applications are available on-line. Unfortunately, the trend for new deep learning architectures are either have larger models or require a heavy memory usage. So, models with smaller size would be preferred. In this paper, we evaluate various existing deep learning models for plant diseases detection when low resolution data are used. They are: VGGNet, AlexNet, Resnet, Xception, and MobileNet. Our focus is deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) which is commonly applied for image data. We also propose a new DCNN architecture with two branches of concatenated residual networks. It is well known that the deeper the networks the better performance of DCNN. However, DCNN with very deep networks and large number of training parameters is prone to vanishing gradient problems. One solutions for that is to apply residual networks as branches to DCNN. While it is found that increasing the branch of the networks benefit the performance, larger memory are required to train the networks. So, we apply two concatenated residual networks only. We called it Compact Networks (ComNet). We compare our method other with six popular CNN architectures. We evaluate the performance on the PlantVillage dataset and our own dataset. We collected images of tea leaves which consist of 6 classes: 5 classes of diseases that are commonly found in Indonesia and a healthy class. Adopting a deep learning model into bird sound classification tasks becomes a common practice in order to construct a robust automated bird sound detection system. In this paper, we employ a four-layer Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) formulated to classify different species of Indonesia scops owls based on their vocal sounds. Two widely used representations of an acoustic signal: log-scaled mel-spectrogram and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) are extracted from each sound file and fed into the network separately to compare the model performance with different inputs. A more complex CNN that can simultaneously process the two extracted acoustic representations is proposed to provide a direct comparison with the baseline model. The dual-input network is the well-performing model in our experiment that achieves 97.55% Mean Average Precision (MAP). Meanwhile, the baseline model achieves a MAP score of 94.36% for the mel-spectrogram input and 96.08% for the MFCC input. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Places classification is one of the points of discussion in the computer vision and robotics community. Some renowned techniques such as local-invariant feature extractors (e.g. Scale-invariant feature transform SIFT, Speeded Up Robust Features SURF), as well as Visual BoW approach were used in place classification problems. Nowadays, deep learning methods such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have the advantages towards computer vision problems including place classification problem. Albeit, there are several renowned datasets existed to help the community to learn the models, there is no publicly exists in places dataset for specifically places in Indonesia. This paper presents methodology to collect data of visual places in Indonesia, learn deep features from the data, and classify visual places in Indonesia. We aims to contribute a large dataset as well as deep learning models of places in Indonesian.
