Numerical simulation of polypropylene laminated paper insulation is a serious challenge, as it must take into account the layered structure and presence of longitudinal and radial gaps in the coils of the winded tape for cables with sector-shape conductive cores. Thus far, it has been performed only with serious simplifications. We propose a technique for numerical modeling of electric parameters in this type of insulation by reducing a complex 3D problem to a simplified 2D model that takes into account the main influencing factors. The results of modeling the distribution of electric field strength and current density in insulation are presented, and the influence of the location of gaps between the edges of winded tape on the conductivity of cable insulation is estimated. Analytical expressions are obtained for estimating the electrical resistance of insulation while taking into account the parameters of the butt gap between the insulating tapes. The results of calculations, numerical modeling, and experimentally measured values of electrical resistance are compared, showing that there is a good match. The specific energy absorption of a thin-walled tube can be improved by filler. This study examined the potential use of a cheaper biomass filler, paper scraps, to enhance the energy absorption characteristics of the structure while reducing its cost, compared to that with a traditional filler such as foam material. Quasi-static crushing tests and finite element simulations were performed by using the explicit non-linear finite element software LS-DYNA to determine the improvements to the mean crushing force and specific energy absorption of the steel tube when filled with different densities of paper scraps. The mean crushing force and specific energy absorption of the empty tube, the paper scraps, and thin-walled tube filled with paper scraps were determined, and corresponding numerical simulations were performed. The simulation and test results showed that the impact performance of tube filled with paper scraps was greatly improved when paper scraps density was 0.35 g/cm3. By optimizing paper scraps filling structure, a new structure that could further enhance the specific energy absorption was obtained. In this study, the space charge in oil-impregnated thick pressboard and Kraft paper were measured by the pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) method from -20 to +60 °C. A bipolar charge transport model was used to simulate the transport processes of homocharge and heterocharge, and the acoustic attenuation process in the samples. The test results show that space charge accumulates in the thick pressboard and Kraft paper increases first and then decreases with temperature, and its maximum appears at 40°C, while little space charge accumulates at -20°C. The space charge near the lower electrode shrinks in the oil-impregnated thick pressboard at high temperature and the shrinkage is larger at 60°C. In the oil-impregnated Kraft paper, the accumulation and charge density of positive charge is different from negative charge. The ion transport process model simulates the charge shrinkage near the electrode, and disappears at the upper electrode after the acoustic attenuation simulation. In this paper, we investigate the numerical computation method for a one-dimensional self diffusion plant water model with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. First, a high accuracy compact difference scheme for the diffusive plant water model in an arid flat environment is constructed using the finite difference method. The fourth order compact difference scheme is used for the spatial derivative term, and the Taylor series expansion and residual correction function are used to discretize the time term. We obtain a difference scheme with second-order accuracy in time and fourth-order accuracy in space. Second, the Fourier analysis method is used to prove that the above format is unconditionally stable. Then, the numerical examples provided the convergence and accuracy of the difference scheme. Finally, numerical simulations are conducted near the Turing Hopf bifurcation point of the model to obtain the spatial distribution maps of vegetation and water under small disturbances of different parameters. In this paper, the evolution law of vegetation quantity and water density at any time is observed. In this article, we review definition, origin, terminology, fundamental properties, design concepts and procedures, basic applications, modeling, and numerical simulation of metamaterials. It is shown that metamaterial origin can be easily understood by placing metamaterials in the more general context of artificial electromagnetic materials and of the efforts performed by the scientific community working in complex materials to mimic and overcome the properties of natural materials. The basic properties of some classes of metamaterials as well as the related limitations are reviewed and discussed. A new application-oriented definition of metamaterials is given in terms of a functionalizing layer placed in between the traditional concepts of materials and devices. Metamaterial applications and the design steps of metamaterial-based and metamaterial-inspired components are also discussed, with particular emphasis on the numerical simulation of ideal metamaterials through available solvers. In this frame, finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) modeling and simulation of the electromagnetic properties of metamaterials are deeply discussed. The recently introduced virtual MTM-FDTD tool is used to simulate the interaction between the electromagnetic field and metamaterials and show some metamaterial effects, such as beam focusing, existence of negative refractive angle, and so forth, through various examples in different scenarios. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A lime–sand pile is a three-phase particle composite material composed of a lime matrix, sand, and a loess aggregate at the meso level. Establishing a random aggregate model that can reflect the actual aggregate gradation, content, and morphology is the premise of numerical simulations of the meso-mechanics of lime–sand piles. In this paper, the secondary development of Abaqus 2022 is realized by writing Python 3.12 scripts, and a parameterized three-phase mixed lime–sand pile random meso-spherical aggregate model is obtained. A meso-modeling idea of lime–sand piles is creatively proposed, the integrated-generation algorithm of a spherical aggregate of different materials is written, and the material's properties and mesh generation are given by the algorithm. Finally, a numerical simulation of temperature–expansion statics is carried out using an established mesoscopic model. Under different mixing ratios, the expansion force increases with an increase in the lime proportion. The increase in the expansion force is approximately 45% of that without an increased lime proportion. The simulated expansion forces are 8.81 kN, 12.61 kN, and 18.89 kN, respectively, which are similar to the experimental results for laboratory specimens, and the relative error is less than 3%. In the case of different height ratios, with increases in height, the change in the expansion force is very small, and the relative error between the simulated value and the experimental value is less than 2%, which further verifies the reliability of the mesoscopic random model of lime–sand piles. Proppant transport and distribution law in hydraulic fractures has important theoretical and field guidance significance for the optimization design of hydraulic fracturing schemes and accurate production prediction. Many studies aim to understand proppant transportation in complex fracture systems. Few studies, however, have addressed the flow path mechanism between the transverse fracture and horizontal well, which is often neglected in practical design. In this paper, a series of mathematical equations, including the rock elastic deformation equation, fracturing fluid continuity equation, fracturing fluid flow equation, and proppant continuity equation for the proppant transport, were established for the transverse fracture of a horizontal well, while the finite element method was used for the solution. Moreover, the two-dimensional radial flow was considered in the proppant transport modeling. The results show that proppant breakage, embedding, and particle migration are harmful to fracture conductivity. The proppant concentration and fracture wall roughness effect can slow down the proppant settling rate, but at the same time, it can also block the horizontal transportation of the proppant and shorten the effective proppant seam length. Increasing the fracturing fluid viscosity and construction displacement, reducing the proppant density and particle size, and adopting appropriate sanding procedures can all lead to better proppant placement and, thus, better fracturing and remodeling results. The urban underlying surface may affect the thunderstorm process. However, current research on this phenomenon is still in its infancy. This paper aimed to analyze the influence of the urban underlying surface on the evolution of thunderstorm organization through ground observation and numerical simulation. The results indicated that when the thunderstorm system with strong synoptic conditions passed through the built-up area of Beijing, it exhibited obvious bifurcation and detour. The dynamic field of near-surface cold pools could serve as diagnostic indicators for understanding how the urban underlying surface affects the thunderstorm process. The large-scale compact-rise clusters in the city center could alter the movement direction and path of the cold pool outflow, thereby influencing the thunderstorm organization process. In addition to the spatial configuration of the building complex, the city size might also be an important factor influencing the thunderstorm process. Spatial truss structures (STSs), serving as the bottom support structure of a cooling tower, effectively harness the superior load-bearing capacity offered by lattice-type truss structures. STSs are composed of main bars, diagonal bars, and horizontal bars, with horizontal bars serving as vital components of the truss structure. They play a pivotal role in maintaining the overall integrity and stability of the structure. The proportional relationship between the stiffness of each bar in STSs has a profound impact on the mechanical characteristics of the overall structure. This relationship directly influences the ultimate load-bearing capacity of the structure. Therefore, conducting research on the influence patterns of this relationship is of utmost importance. This paper explores the study of triangular truss structures (TTSs) and quadrilateral truss structures (QTSs). Firstly, through theoretical analysis, considering structural elements such as the stiffness of the horizontal bars, the number of layers in the truss, and the angle between the diagonal bars and the horizontal bars, theoretical expressions for the calculation of the ultimate load capacity of TTSs and QTSs are derived. Furthermore, a parametric finite element (FE) model was established for the TTSs and QTSs. Through numerical simulations, the validity of the theoretical calculation expressions was verified. Finally, this paper discusses the influence of factors such as the stiffness of the horizontal bars, the number of layers in the truss, and the angle between the diagonal and horizontal bars on the TTSs and QTSs. It analyzes the patterns and trends of these influences. The research results indicate that the theoretical and numerical simulation results for the TTSs have an error ranging from 0.40% to 4.93%, while the relative error for the QTSs ranges from 1.59% to 4.88%. These errors are within an acceptable range for engineering calculations. As the stiffness of the horizontal bars increases, the proportionality coefficient of the truss's ultimate load capacity shows an initial increase followed by a stable trend. It reaches an equilibrium state when the stiffness of the horizontal bars reaches a certain threshold. As the number of layers in the truss and the angle between the diagonal and horizontal bars increase, the proportionality coefficient of the load capacity gradually decreases. By constructing the heat transfer model of the buried tube heat exchanger, using the mathematical method and numerical calculation software, the temperature of the buried tube heat exchanger is calculated numerical, so as to better understand the temperature effect of the buried tube heat exchanger on the surrounding soil. This paper establishes a mathematical model of a vertically buried heat transfer system based on the principle of thermal equilibrium and the thermal conductivity differential equation. Conduct research on the temperature field around single pipes in different soil (geological conditions), temperature field under different drilling backfill materials, and the temperature around buried pipe-lines in both short-term and long-term operation of the system. The experimental results show that the simulation results of the system's short time (10 days) and long time (90 days) performance show that the cooling and temperature cycles in different areas directly affect the heat radius of the buried pipe and the heat accumulation near the buried pipe. Inspired by the airway for phonation, fluid flow in an idealized model within a sudden expansion and contraction channel with a geometrically symmetric structure is investigated, and the nonlinear behaviors of the flow therein are explored via numerical simulations. Numerical simulation results show that, as the Reynolds number (Re = U0H/ν) increases, the numerical solution undergoes a pitchfork bifurcation, an inverse pitchfork bifurcation and a Hopf bifurcation. There are symmetric solutions, asymmetric solutions and oscillatory solutions for flows. When the sudden expansion ratio (Er) = 6.00, aspect ratio (Ar) = 1.78 and Re ≤ Rec1 (≈185), the numerical solution is unique, symmetric and stable. When Rec1 < Re ≤ Rec2 (≈213), two stable asymmetric solutions and one symmetric unstable solution are reached. When Rec2 < Re ≤ Rec3 (≈355), the number of numerical solution returns one, which is stable and symmetric. When Re > Rec3, the numerical solution is oscillatory. With increasing Re, the numerical solution develops from periodic and multiple periodic solutions to chaos. The critical Reynolds numbers (Rec1, Rec2 and Rec3) and the maximum return velocity, at which reflux occurs in the channel, change significantly under conditions with different geometry. Relative permeability is a fundamental parameter affecting reservoir development performance analysis. During the development of oil and gas fields, the displacement pressure gradient changes with time and space. This paper studies the effect of displacement pressure gradient on relative permeability. The oil–water relative permeability curves of a Bohai Oilfield under different displacement pressure gradients are obtained through experimental analysis. Based on the experimental data, a correction model of the permeability curve is established by regression of the Willhite model parameters. The correction model is introduced into the black oil numerical simulation, and the production performance and remaining oil are compared and analyzed. The results show that the displacement pressure gradient can have an obvious impact on the relative permeability curve. As the displacement pressure gradient increases, the two-phase span of the relative permeability curve increases, the oil displacement efficiency increases, and the water relative permeability increases. The relative permeability curves under different displacement pressure gradients can be accurately characterized by the Willhite model. The consideration of the displacement pressure gradient has an obvious impact on numerical simulation results. The conventional method of using a fixed relative permeability curve cannot truly reflect the production performance and the remaining oil distribution. This paper proposes a set of realization methods including obtaining laws from experiments, utilizing the empirical model to correct, and simulating to characterize reservoir changes. During drilling operations, naturally, fractured formations are prone to show serious mud losses, which hinder drilling and increase nonproductive time and costs. The influencing factors of dynamic fluid loss are important for optimizing drilling parameters, reducing drilling fluid loss, and protecting oil and gas reservoirs. In this study, we simulated the dynamic filtration loss of drilling fluid during drilling under formation conditions using commercial software CMG (Computer Modelling Group). The effects of filtration time, filtrate viscosity, pressure difference, internal filter cake permeability, and external filter cake permeability on filtration loss were investigated. The simulation results showed that the permeability of the external mud cake is an important factor to control the fluid loss, and the pressure consumed by the external mud cake with low permeability can account for more than 90% of the total pressure difference. When the permeability of the external mud cake is high, the permeability of the internal mud cake also has a significant influence on the dynamic fluid loss. Under formation conditions, the dynamic fluid loss of radial fluid loss is still proportional to the filtration time and pressure difference, and inversely proportional to the filtrate viscosity of drilling fluid. Under the simulated conditions, the pressure will quickly transfer to the boundary, and the formation pressure at the same position in the formation will gradually increase, while the increase is relatively small with a constant filtration rate. The results of this paper can be used to the real site for drilling optimization. It is important to marine ecology research that plankton samples are collected without damage, especially for time series samples. Usually, most fixed-point plankton samplers are made using a pump with paddle blades in order to increase the flow rate. But it can easily injure soft plankton. In this paper, a shaftless hollow sampling pump is designed, which can provide a highly efficient driving component for the plankton sampler. The numerical model of the sampling pump is established, and the flow rate of the sampling pump at different rotational speeds is simulated by the computational fluid dynamics method. In order to obtain a higher flow rate, the influence of internal and external cavity size, blade angle, and blade number on the flow rate of the sampling pump with a constant rotational speed of the blade was simulated and discussed. The results show that the flow rate at the internal cavity is positively correlated with the inlet and outlet pressure differences of the internal cavity, and the greater the negative pressure at the outlet of the internal cavity, the greater the flow rate. When the internal and external cavity sizes are h = 14 mm, d = 52 mm, blade angle θ = 45°, and number of blades s = 5, the flow rate of the sampling pump internal cavity reaches the maximum. Finally, the feasibility of the shaftless hollow sampling pump is verified by experiments. The shaftless hollow sampling pump can realize non-destructive sampling of plankton. This paper deals with the analysis of TRIP steel HCT690 deformation behaviour. The mechanical properties and deformation characteristics of the tested material are determined using selected material tests and tests that consider the required stress states used to define the yield criterion boundary condition and subsequent deformation behaviour in the region of severe plastic deformation. The measured data are subsequently implemented in the numerical simulation of sheet metal forming, where they are used as input data for the computational process in the form of a selected material model defining the yield criterion boundary and, furthermore, the material hardening law during deformation of the material. The chosen numerical simulation process corresponds to the sheet metal forming process, including the subsequent spring-back of the material, when the force does not affect the material. Furthermore, the influence of the chosen computational model and selected process parameters on the deformation and spring-back process of the material is evaluated. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) polymer is widely used in various fields today. In order to reveal the structural impact performance of PMMA materials in underwater engineering thoroughly, this paper firstly proposed a simplified plate model for a spherical shell hull under concentrative impact loading. Then, to simulate the hyper-elastic material properties of PMMA in the impact process, the Johnson–Cook constitutive model and damage failure model were adopted. And the least squares method was used to confirm accurately the J–C constitutive and damage failure model parameters of PMMA through material test data. Moreover, the dynamic process of the steel bullet impacting the PMMA plate structure was analyzed by the finite element software ABAQUS. The calculation results show that the numerical simulation results in this paper have a good convergence, and the residual velocities at different initial velocities and thicknesses of plates are in good agreement with the experimental test data. Therefore, the feasibility and accuracy of the impact analysis of PMMA structures based on J–C constitutive and damage failure models in this paper are verified accordingly. Finally, based on the presented finite element model, the structure response and the variation of residual velocity of the bullet with the PMMA plate thickness was analyzed in depth; that is, the results show that the residual velocity of the bullet has a certain linear relationship with the thickness, even in an underwater environment, and even in an underwater environment will increase both with a thicker structure or a higher pressure. This paper studies a self-designed high temperature fireball quasi-static simulation device to understand the temperature distribution of each substance inside the fireball under the multi-pipe injection technology. The changes in the physical field of the high temperature fireball are obtained through numerical simulation. The simulation model in this paper adopts the turbulent k-ε model, and simulates the material transfer process according to Fick's law. The commercial software COMSOL multiphysics is used to give and analyze the local characteristics of fluid-flow and heat transfer. The simulation device formed a high temperature fireball under the interaction of the three-way jet fire. The experimental data verified the accuracy of the simulation results, and the experimental results were in good agreement with the simulation results. This method of analyzing the actual temperature field through simulation can be used to provide a powerful verification scheme for the detection of complex multi-temperature fields in the future. Rubber concrete (RC) exhibits high durability due to the rubber admixture. It is widely used in a large number of fatigue-resistant structures. Mesoscale studies are used to study the composition of polymers, but there is no method for fatigue simulation of RC. Therefore, this paper presents a finite element modeling approach to study the fatigue problem of RC on the mesoscale, which includes the random generation of the main components of the RC mesoscale structure. We also model the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) of aggregate mortar and the ITZ of rubber mortar. This paper combines the theory of concrete damage to plastic with the method of zero-thickness cohesive elements in the ITZ, and it is a new numerical approach. The results show that the model can simulate reasonably well the random damage pattern after RC beam load damage. The damage occurred in the middle of the beam span and tended to follow the ITZ. In order to study the heat dissipation characteristics of lithium batteries, a staggered bi-directional flow cooling method is designed and numerical simulations are established using CFD in this paper with a circular battery as the research object. Since the optimal operating range of Li-ion battery is 293.15-313.15 K and the maximum temperature difference is not higher than 5 K, the maximum temperature and maximum temperature difference are selected as the optimized design objectives. Firstly, the temperature field of the round lithium battery with discharge multiplier 3C working at ambient temperature 308.15 K is studied, and an orthogonal test design is carried out for three factors: battery pack embedding distance, coolant flow rate and coolant temperature, and the best combination of orthogonal test is selected by extreme difference analysis and analysis of variance. Secondly, in order to further verify the heat dissipation efficiency of the battery pack, a back propagation neural network with multi-objective optimization algorithm is proposed, and the optimal heat dissipation method of the numerical simulation is obtained by parameter solution and simulation analysis using the parameter range of the orthogonal test as the constraints of the multi-objective optimization. The results show that this optimized way of battery pack heat dissipation has a significant improvement for the maximum temperature, and non-e of them will exceed its working range; compared with the 3.39 K obtained from the orthogonal test design, the maximum temperature difference of the battery pack calculated by the multi-objective optimization is 3.15 K, which is reduced by 7.08%. Compressor characteristic evaluation is a critical step in design and optimization. Corrected characteristic curves are typically derived via experimental testing or CFD computation which is typically executed through manual manipulation. For compressors necessitating extensive characteristic computation across multiple speeds and operational conditions, the involved process is inherently complex. This paper introduces an automation approach, employing dichotomy and optimization algorithms aligned with a 3D numerical solver, to streamline the derivation of compressor characteristic curves. Initially, the paper delineated the procedural frameworks for two methodologies and validated them using a single-stage transonic compressor. Both methods achieved the automated resolution of the characteristic lines. The result indicates that the volume of the iterative computations hinges on the granularity of the space searching step and the precision in identifying the stall boundary point. Pertaining to the subject investigated herein, the dichotomy method entailed fewer iterations relative to the optimization algorithm. Subsequent adjustments to the optimization algorithmic process revealed that direct optimization mitigated computational demands substantially by reducing a cycle, thereby attesting to its superior efficacy. In summary, when simulating compressor characteristic curves, the dichotomy method proves more efficient when the interval value of the stall boundary range can be approximated. Conversely, direct optimization is preferable when the estimation of the compressor's stall boundary is imprecise. The design of integrated and highly efficient solutions for thermal management is a key capability for different aerospace products, ranging from civil aircraft using hydrogen on board to miniaturized satellites. In particular, this paper discloses a novel numerical tool for the design and thermal performance assessment of heat pipes. To achieve this goal, a numerical Ansys Parametric Design Language code is set up to verify the effective subtractive heat flux guaranteed by the selected heat pipe arrangement. The methodology and related tool show their ability to provide good thermal performance estimates for different heat pipe designs and operating conditions. Specifically, the paper reports two very different test cases: (1) solid metal heat pipes to cool down the crotch leading-edge area of the air intake of a Mach 8 civil passenger aircraft, and (2) a copper-water heat pipe to cool down a Printed Circuit Board of a generic small LEO satellite. The successful application of the methodology and numerical code confirms the achievement of the ambitious goal of developing in-house tools to support heat pipe thermal performance prediction for the entire aerospace domain. Agricultural irrigation pumps are the main agricultural irrigation machinery, and their performance is closely related to the flow characteristics inside them. This paper combines experimental research and numerical simulation analysis. Based on the good agreement between the experimental results and numerical simulation data, this paper focuses on studying the characteristics of pressure fluctuations of agricultural irrigation pumps under cavitation conditions. The study found that under non-cavitation conditions, the pressure fluctuations at different monitoring points in pumps with different numbers of blades showed periodic variations, which are related to the number of blades. Under cavitation conditions, the pressure fluctuation coefficients of agricultural irrigation pumps with different impeller blade numbers increased, with a significant impact on the distribution of radial forces on the impeller. The research results supplement the relevant theoretical analysis and have certain practical significance for the application of agricultural irrigation pumps to practical production. Explosive shock wave protection is an important issue that urgently needs to be solved in the current military and public security safety fields. Non-metallic protective structures have the characteristics of being lightweight and having low secondary damage, making them an important research object in the field of equivalent protection. In this paper, the numerical simulation was performed to investigate the dynamic mechanical response of non-metallic annular protective structures under the internal blast, which were made by the continuous winding of PE fibers. The impact of various charges, the number of fiber layers, and polyurethane foam on the damage to protective structures was analyzed. The numerical results showed that 120 PE fiber layers could protect 50 g TNT equivalent explosives. However, solely increasing the thickness of fiber layers cannot effectively enhance the protection efficiency. By adding polyurethane foam in the inner layer, the stress acting on the fiber could be effectively reduced. A wide variety of small-amplitude waves widely exist in the ionosphere and have significant effects on the evolution of equatorial plasma bubbles. In this paper, we simulated equatorial plasma bubbles (EPB) seeded by vertical neutral wind perturbations with wavelengths of 125 km and 250 km, and compared the morphology characteristics of plasma bubble structures with those under random noise perturbations in the background density. The numerical results showed that both vertical winds and random background noise perturbations can contribute to the growth of plasma bubbles, and the perturbations under additional random background noise can promote the growth of the plasma bubble structures faster. Additionally, several processes of the nonlinear behavior of bifurcated EPB structures, including bifurcation, pinching, and small-scale turbulent structures, were successfully obtained. Our simulation captured supersonic flows within the low-density plasma structures characterized by vertical velocities of about 1.5 km/s, which is consistent with experimental studies found in the literature. With the reliance on ocean resources, the nuclear power powers have set their sights on marine nuclear power plants to break through the bottleneck of energy supply for the development of ocean resources. In this paper, the computational fluid dynamics software ANSYS CFX 2021 is used to simulate the TOSQAN benchmark experiment. Three different turbulence models, the k − ε model, R N G   k − ε model, and S S T model, are selected to analyze the adaptability of the turbulence model. The simulation results are compared with the benchmark experimental results, and the selected numerical calculation model is used to analyze the influence of vapor on the pressure, temperature, hydrogen distribution, and hydrogen risk in the containment space when a hypothetical serious accident occurs in a marine nuclear power plant. The results show that the results simulated with the k − ε turbulence model are closer to the benchmark experimental results. Vapor has no obvious effect on the response speed of pressure balance at each position in the closed containment space, and the condensation of the vapor wall can effectively reduce the pressure peak in the closed containment space. The existence of vapor and the increase in vapor concentration will increase the temperature in the closed containment space. The condensation of vapor on the wall surface will cause the temperature in the containment space to have a peak value, which can effectively reduce the temperature in the containment space. Vapor will promote the mixing of gas in the containment space and make the hydrogen distribution tend to be uniform. The presence of vapor and the increase in vapor concentration can reduce the hydrogen risk in the containment space, but the condensation of vapor may increase the hydrogen risk in the containment space. The cement industry is the second largest source of global man-made CO2 emissions after the power industry, and the adoption of O2/CO2 combustion technology for cement kilns is of great significance in reducing CO2 emissions. In this paper, the effects of pulverized coal mixed air combustion and pulverized coal mixed O2/CO2 combustion on the velocity field, temperature field, CO2 and NOx concentration distribution in rotary kiln were investigated by CFD technique. The results showed that there is no difference in the velocity distribution between the two atmospheres, and the speed difference between the primary and secondary air creates a re-circulation zone near the burner. The O2/CO2 atmosphere combustion decreased the maximum temperature, but improved the uniformity of the temperature field. The pulverized coal burnout rate under O2/CO2 atmosphere decreased by 3.55% compared to O2/N2 atmosphere. The mole fraction of CO2 at the rotary kiln outlet is 0.08 and 0.93 for O2/N2 and O2/CO2 combustion atmospheres, respectively. It is easier to achieve CO2 aggregation and capture under O2/CO2 atmosphere than under O2/N2. The NOx concentration at O2/CO2 is approximately one half of that at O2/N2, which can save the investment on denitrification equipment. The simulation results reasonably agree with the measured data. With the shift of coal seam mining to the deep, the in-situ stress of coal and rock mass increases gradually. High ground stress can limit the generation of rock cracks caused by blasting, and blasting usually shows different crushing states than low stress conditions. In order to study the blasting expansion rule of rock mass with cavity under high ground stress and the rock mass fracture state under different side stress coefficients. In this paper, the effective range of blasting and the stress distribution under blasting load are analyzed theoretically. The RHT (Riedel-Hiermaier-Thoma) model is used to numerically simulate the blasting process of rock mass with cavity under different ground stress, and the influence of ground stress and lateral pressure coefficient on the crack growth of rock mass is studied. The results show that when there is no ground stress, the damage cracks in rock mass are more concentrated in the horizontal direction and the fracture development tends to the direction where the holes are located, which confirms the guiding effect and stress concentration effect of the holes in rock mass, which helps to promote the crack penetration between the hole and the hole. The length difference of horizontal and vertical damage cracks in rock mass increases with the increase of horizontal and vertical stress difference. Under the same lateral stress coefficient, the larger the horizontal and vertical stress difference is, the stronger the inhibition effect on crack formation is. For blasting of rock mass with high ground stress, the crack formation length between gun holes decreases with the increase of stress level, and the crack extends preferentially in the direction of higher stress. Therefore, the placement of gun holes along the direction of greater stress and the shortening of hole spacing are conducive to the penetration of cracks between gun holes and empty holes. In this paper, low circumferential reciprocating load foot-scale tests were performed on two nontruncated PHC B 600 130 tubular piles with bearing nodes to characterize the damage process and morphology of the specimens and to investigate the load-carrying performance of the members. The test results reveal that under the action of tensile-bending-shear loading, the bearing concrete in the node area buckles and is damaged, the anchored reinforcement in the node area yields, the constraint is weakened, an articulation point is formed, and the node rotational capacity increases. When the embedment depth increases from 200 mm to 300 mm, the ultimate bearing capacities of the positive and negative nodes increase by 31.04% and 36.16%, respectively. A numerical simulation is used to verify the test results. Considering the four types of piles without truncated nodes, the numerical simulation is used to analyze the node-bearing capacity at different embedment depths. Finally, a preferred node type is proposed as follows: a terminal plate welded anchor bar and pipe pile core-filled longitudinal reinforcement anchored into the bearing node, with a preferred embedment depth of 250 mm. This paper is based on the proximity engineering project of the Baishiyi tunnel group passing under the Chongqing West Station track group. Considering the train load and the spatial relationship of the tunnel and track groups, the settlement patterns, horizontal displacement, and differential settlement of the tunnel–strata–tracks system during the excavation process are studied through theoretical calculations and numerical simulation methods. The results indicate that the tunnel vault, strata, and track settlement deformation patterns are similar. Throughout the tunnel construction process, the tracks underwent uplift, settlement, and eventually stabilized. The settlement trough formed by the excavation of the three tunnels below the track group has an impact range of 25–145 m. Between 35 and 75 m, the differential settlement of the double track gradually increases with excavation. As the tunnel face reaches 75 m, the track differential settlement gradually converges and tends to stabilize. To minimize the impact of underpass tunnel construction on track groups, it is recommended to use a combination of full-section hole grouting and surface reinforcement grouting for ground reinforcement. Additionally, optimizing the construction parameters, including the step length and primary support closure time, and strengthening the locking anchor can further reduce the impact. Debris flow, driven by natural events like heavy rainfall and snowmelt, involves sediment, rocks, and water, posing destructive threats to life and infrastructure. The accurate prediction of its activity range is crucial for prevention and mitigation efforts. Cellular automata circumvent is the cumbersome process of solving partial differential equations, thereby efficiently simulating complex dynamic systems. Given the anisotropic characteristics of square cells in the simulation of dynamic systems, this paper proposes a novel approach, utilizing a hexagonal cellular automaton for the numerical simulation of debris flows, where the direction judgment efficiency increased by 25%. Employing cubic interpolation, the model thereby determines the central elevation of each hexagonal cell. By modifying the flow direction function and stopping conditions, it achieves more accurate predictions of the debris flow run-out extent. This method was applied to the 2010 Yohutagawa debris flow event and the flume test. To evaluate the simulation's accuracy, the Ω value and F β score were used. The Ω value is a comprehensive evaluation factor that takes into account missed or misjudgment areas. On this basis, the F β score emphasizes that the missed identification of debris flow areas will bring greater harm. As urban underground spaces continue to develop, new engineering projects are increasingly closer to existing operating tunnels. This study focuses on the impact of excavation work, such as a new tunnel or deep excavation, on an existing shield tunnel. However, few studies have examined the simultaneous effects of excavation and over-crossing tunneling on operational tunnels. This paper presents a case study of Section 2 of Hangzhou Metro Line 7, employing MIDAS GTS to simulate the settlement of the existing tunnel and analyze the data collected through automatic measurements. Both methods demonstrated that excavating a foundation pit near the existing tunnel results in the tunnel's settlement while over-crossing tunneling of the new tunnels leads to the uplift of the existing tunnel. The excavation prompted the existing tunnel to move horizontally toward the foundation pit, whereas over-crossing tunneling pushed it horizontally away. The numerical simulation revealed minor vertical displacement but significant horizontal displacement, aligning closely with the measured data. The impacts of foundation pit excavation and over-crossing tunneling on the vertical and horizontal displacement of existing tunnels are contrary, suggesting that the two construction stages will offset each other. One-dimensional fourth-order boundary value problems (BVPs) play a critical role in engineering applications, particularly in the analysis of beams. Current numerical investigations primarily concentrate on homogeneous boundary conditions. In addition to its high precision advantages, the Hermite finite element method (HFEM) is capable of directly computing both the function value and its derivatives. In this paper, both the cubic and quintic HFEM are employed to address two prevalent non-homogeneous fourth-order BVPs. Furthermore, a priori error estimations are established for both BVPs, demonstrating the optimal error convergence order in H 2 semi-norm and L 2 norm. In shield tunneling, the joint is one of the most vulnerable parts of the segmental lining. Opening of the joint reduces the overall stiffness of the ring, leading to structural damage and issues such as water leakage. Currently, the Winkler method is commonly used to calculate structural deformation, simplifying the interaction between segments and soil as radial and tangential Winkler springs. However, when introducing connection springs or reduction factors to simulate the joint stiffness of segments, the challenge lies in determining the reduction coefficient and the stiffness of the springs. Currently, the hyperstatic reflection method cannot simulate the discontinuity effect at the connection of the tunnel segments, while the state space method overlooks the nonlinear interaction between the tunnel and the soil. Therefore, this paper proposes a numerical simulation method considering the interaction between the tunnel and the soil, which is subjected to compression rather than tension, and the discontinuity of the joints between the segments. The model structure and external load are symmetrical, resulting in symmetrical calculation results. This method is based on the soft soil layers and shield tunnel structures of the Shanghai Metro, and the applicability of the model is verified through deformation calculations using three-dimensional laser scanning point clouds of sections from the Shanghai Metro Line 5. When the subgrade reaction coefficient is 5000 k N / m 3 , the model can effectively simulate the deformation of operational tunnels. By adjusting the bending stiffness of individual connection springs, we investigate the influence of bending stiffness reduction on the bending moment, radial displacement, and rotational displacement of the ring. The results indicate that a decrease in joint bending stiffness significantly affects the mechanical response of the ring, and the extent and degree of this influence are correlated with the joint position and the magnitude of joint bending stiffness. Traditional fossil energy sources still dominate the world energy structure. And fully utilizing biomass is a viable approach for energy transition. A bubbling fluidized bed has better heat and mass transfer, while particle agglomeration limits the development of its industrial application. In this paper, two-phase flow characteristics of a bubbling fluidized bed are investigated by combining numerical simulations and fluidized bed gasification experiments. Numerical simulations found that the bed fluidization height reached twice the initial fluidization height at the 0.054 m initial fluidization height with uniform particle distribution. Fluidized bed gasification experiments found that syngas yield increased with increasing temperature. The carbon conversion efficiency reached 79.3% and the effective gas production was 0.64 m3/kg at 850 °C. In addition, when the water vapor concentration reached 15%, the carbon conversion efficiency and effective gas production reached the maximum values of 86.01% and 0.81 m3/kg, respectively. The intricate geometry and thin walls of the motor housing in new energy vehicles render it susceptible to casting defects during conventional casting processes. However, the lost-foam casting process holds a unique advantage in eliminating casting defects and ensuring the strength and air-tightness of thin-walled castings. In this paper, the lost-foam casting process of thin-walled A356 alloy motor housing was simulated using ProCAST software (2016.0). The results indicate that the filling process is stable and exhibits characteristics of diffusive filling. Solidification occurs gradually from thin to thick. Defect positions are accurately predicted. Through analysis of the defect volume range, the optimal process parameter combination is determined to be a pouring temperature of 700 °C, an interfacial heat transfer coefficient of 50, and a sand thermal conductivity coefficient of 0.5. Microscopic analysis of the motor housing fabricated using the process optimized through numerical simulations reveals the absence of defects such as shrinkage at critical locations. The experimental and numerical simulation analysis of a TiAl alloy by laser metal deposition technology is presented in this paper. The research examines the macroscopic morphology, microstructure, and mechanical properties of samples as laser power varies. It also delves into how the temperature field and residual stress evolve under different laser powers. The results reveal that the microstructure of samples is mainly composed of α2-Ti3Al phase and a γ-TiAl phase and that the details of the microstructure are significantly affected by laser power. As laser power increases, coarse lamellar structure content increases, corresponding to a decrease in α2 phase content. The deposited layer hardness ranges from 550 HV to 600 HV, and the average deposition layer hardness decreases with increased laser power. Simulation results predict the molten pool's size, temperature, and residual stresses. A significant increase in the molten pool size is observed when the laser power exceeds 1000 W, and the measured molten pool depths correspond closely to simulation predictions. However, significant tensile stresses are generated in the deposition layer due to high cooling rates, mainly in the x direction. Characterizing changes in rock properties is essential for the hydraulic fracture and re-fracture parameter optimization of shale formations. This paper proposed a hydraulic fracturing model to investigate the changes in rock properties during hydraulic fracturing using SPH, and the changes in the stress field and rock properties were quantitatively characterized. The simulation results indicated that the minimum horizontal principal stress increased by 10 MPa~15 MPa during fracture propagation, which is the main reason for the uneven propagation in multi-fracture propagation. Affected by the stress disturbance, the stimulated area was divided into four parts based on the changes in Young's modulus and permeability; the more seriously the stress disturbance was affected, the higher the permeability of the stimulated zone was, and the smaller the stimulated zone was. Meanwhile, a zone with reduced permeability appeared due to the compression effect caused by the high injection pressure, and this increased with the increase in stress disturbance. The main reason for this was that strain formed because of the compression effect from the high injection pressure. The higher the stress disturbance, the higher the accumulated strain. Slamming impacts on water are common occurrences, and the whipping induced by slamming can significantly increase the structural load. This paper carries out an experimental study of the water entry of rigid wedges with various deadrise angles. The drop height and deadrise angle are parametrically varied to investigate the effect of the entry velocity and wedge shape on the impact dynamics. A two-way coupled approach combing CFD method software STAR-CCM+12.02.011-R8 and the FEM method software Abaqus 6.14 is presented to analyze the effect of structural flexibility on the slamming phenomenon for a wedge and a ship model. The numerical method is validated through the comparison between the numerical simulation and experimental data. The slamming pressure, free surface elevation, and dynamic structural response, including stress and strain, in particular, are presented and discussed. The results show that the smaller the inclined angle at the bottom of the wedge-shaped body, the faster the entry speed into the water, resulting in greater impact pressure and greater structural deformation. As industrial modernization advances rapidly, the need for energy becomes increasingly urgent. This paper aims to enhance the current burner design by optimizing the combustion calorific value, minimizing pollutant emissions, and validating the accuracy of the burner model using experimental data from previous studies. The enhanced porous medium burner model is used to investigate the burner's combustion and pollutant emission characteristics at various flow rates, equivalence ratios, combustion orifice sizes, and porosity of porous media. In comparison with the previous model, the combustion traits during ethylene combustion and the emission properties of pollutants under various operational circumstances have been enhanced with the enhanced porous medium burner model. The maximum temperature of ethylene combustion in the enhanced model is 174 k higher than that before the improvement, and the CO emissions are reduced by 31.9%. Multi-material additive manufacturing using heterogeneous powders as raw materials is one of the important development directions of metal additive manufacturing technology. The evaporation behavior of heterogeneous powders in the selective laser melting (SLM) process has a significant influence on the accuracy of chemical composition control and the quality of the final product. In this paper, the fusion process of Fe20Mn (80 wt.% Fe and 20 wt.% Mn) heterogeneous powder, Fe and Mn elemental powders, and Fe20Mn pre-alloyed powder is numerically simulated using FLOW-3D® software and partially validated through SLM experimental results. The morphology and the characteristics of the flow field and temperature field in the melt pool for four kinds of powder materials are analyzed. The influence of the elemental evaporation behavior of different powders on the mass loss of the Mn element is discussed. The results show that the excessive accumulation of heat increases the maximum temperature of the melt pool, thus increasing mass loss. The Fe20Mn heterogeneous powder has a wider heat-affected zone and a higher peak value of temperature, nearly 400 K higher than that of the Fe20Mn pre-alloyed powders, which exhibits an intensive evaporation behavior. The mass loss of the Mn element obtained from the SLM experiment for Fe20Mn heterogeneous powders forming parts is more than the Fe20Mn pre-alloyed powders' forming parts for different laser powers, up to 17 wt.% at P = 120 W. This tendency is consistent with the numerical analysis of the effect of evaporation behavior of Fe–Mn heterogeneous powder during the SLM process. This study provides the necessary theoretical reference and process guidance for realizing the precise control of the SLM composition of a heterogeneous powder in multi-material additive manufacturing caused by evaporation behavior. As supplementary cementitious material, glass powder has been widely used in concrete, and many investigations on the mechanical properties of glass powder concrete have been carried out. However, there is a lack of investigations on the binary hydration kinetics model of glass powder-cement. Based on the pozzolanic reaction mechanism of glass powder, the purpose of this paper is to establish a theoretical model of the binary hydraulic kinetics model of glass powder-cement to investigate the effect of glass powder on cement hydration. The hydration process of glass powder-cement mixed cementitious materials with different glass powder contents (e.g., 0, 20%, 50%) was simulated using the finite element method (FEM). The numerical simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental data of hydration heat in the literature, which verifies the reliability of the proposed model. The results show that the glass powder can dilute and accelerate the hydration of cement. Compared to the sample with 5% glass powder content, the hydration degree of the glass powder decreased by 42.3% for the sample with 50% glass powder content. More importantly, the reactivity of the glass powder decreases exponentially with the increase in the glass particle size. In addition, the reactivity of the glass powder tends to be stable when the glass particle size is greater than 90 μm. With the increase in the replacement rate of the glass powder, the reactivity of the glass powder decreases. When the replacement rate of the glass powder is greater than 45%, the concentration of CH reaches a peak at the early stage of the reaction. This paper presents a channel radiator with ribbed ribs and primarily investigates the fluid flow and heat-transfer characteristics of the channel radiator. A three-dimensional numerical simulation of the radiator's pressure-drop and heat-transfer process was conducted using the finite volume method. A comparison between the experimental data and the simulation results demonstrates that the simulation in this paper is accurate, with a maximum error not exceeding 5%. Furthermore, the radiator was further subjected to geometric parameter studies, principally including the height ratio between the fins and the channel, the fin angle, and the spacing between the fins. The thermal resistance, Nusselt number, friction factor, and heat-transfer enhancement factor were calculated. The results indicate that if the geometric parameters are selected appropriately, the heat sink will enhance heat-transfer performance within an acceptable pressure drop. When the Reynolds number is greater than 507.5, the height ratio of 25%, the rib angle of 135°, and the rib spacing of 2.5 mm can be given priority. This heat sink is used in PCR devices, and experimental results show that the novel channel heat sink can meet the heat dissipation requirements of the TEC during the PCR process. In this paper, a 1D process-based numerical model is established to study the sediment concentration via the turbine (TSC) and sedimentation of the lower reservoir and the upper reservoir of a certain pumped storage power station (PSPS), which is intended to be built on a sandy river. In addition, the sensitivity of TSC to some factors, such as suspended sediment gradation, the water level of the lower reservoir, and the coefficients of the sediment-carrying capacity formula, are analyzed in this paper. It is revealed that (1) the TSC will decrease by 30.8~34.5% when the incoming sediments of particle sizes less than 0.002 mm (which accounts for 3.95% of the totality) are replaced with incoming sediments of particle sizes between 0.002 mm and 0.004 mm. At the same time, the sedimentation thickness of the upper reservoir will decrease by 20.9%, and the siltation rate of the lower reservoir will increase by 2.4%. (2) The TSC will decrease by 12.6~13.1% as the water level of the lower reservoir rises by 17.55 m. This represents an increase of 8.4% in the average water depth and 26.4% in the storage capacity of the lower reservoir. At the same time, the sedimentation thickness of the upper reservoir will decrease by 32.2%, and the siltation rate of the lower reservoir will increase by 2.5%. (3) The TSC will decrease by 1.2~1.4% as the index of the sediment-carrying capacity formula m changes from 1.12 to 0.666, and the coefficient of the sediment-carrying capacity formula K changes from 0.2 to 0.6. At the same time, the sedimentation thickness of the upper reservoir will decrease by 7.2%, and the siltation rate of the lower reservoir will increase by 1.7%. Through the research on the sensitivity of the TSC, the direction and amplitude of the TSC changes with the boundary conditions are found, which provides a basis for the scheme comparison of specific projects and further supplements the prediction method system of the TSC. Meanwhile, the results remind researchers to pay more attention to the determination of boundary conditions and also provide the basis for the error analysis of the TSC. The jet formed by the traditional metal liner has a slender shape. The diameter of the jet head is consistent with that of the tail, and the ductility is good. When it is used to penetrate the target, it has a good damage effect. The low-density jet formed by the PTFE/Cu liner, according to the different preparation processes and densities, has different degrees of radial expansion. This paper reviews numerical methods used to simulate desiccation cracks in clayey soils. It examines five numerical approaches: Finite Element (FEM), Lattice Boltzmann (LBM), Discrete Element (DEM), Cellular Automaton (CAM), and Phase Field (PFM) Methods. The paper presents a simplified description of the methods, including their basic numerical formulations. Several factors such as the multiphase nature of soils, heterogeneity, nonlinearities, coupling, scales of analysis, and computational aspects are discussed. The review highlights the characteristics, strengths, and limitations of each method. FEM shows a good capacity to deal with the thermo-hydromechanical behavior of clays when drying that complement well with the ability of DEM to deal with particle interactions as well as LBM, PFM, and CAM to deal with complex crack patterns. Due to the complexity of low-permeability reservoirs, there is no set of established plans to adjust the development of specific low-permeability reservoirs, and the final development adjustment plan should be determined through comprehensive consideration of many aspects. At present, the development of low-permeability reservoirs in the SN oilfield faces problems. It is urgent to formulate corresponding development adjustment plans to improve the current development situation. In view of the problems of the current development surface of low-permeability reservoirs in the SN oilfield, this paper used the previous research results of a low-permeability reservoir development adjustment for reference, evaluated the reservoir development effect, analyzed the remaining oil distribution via numerical reservoir simulation, and finally designed and optimized a development adjustment plan. The research results show that the injection–production ratio and pressure of low-permeability reservoirs in the SN oilfield were generally maintained, the oil production decreased, the water cut increased, and the remaining recoverable reserves were considerable; the historical matching quality of a reservoir numerical simulation was good. There was more remaining oil in the northeast of the J007 well block and the north of the J008 well block, and the potential of the L2 and L3 layers was great. The remaining oil was mainly concentrated in the areas with high positions, poor physical properties, and imperfect well patterns; the predicted cumulative oil production of Scheme IV in 15 years and recovery were the highest, with the best development effect and the highest economic benefit. This was determined as the development adjustment plan for low-permeability reservoirs in the SN oilfield. The research results of this paper aim to improve oil production, the ultimate recovery factor, and economic benefits of low-permeability reservoirs in the SN oilfield, and to provide a reference for the development of similar oilfields. The paper presents the use of numerical modeling results for multivariate simulation of the manufacturing process of a wheel hub forging made of 20 HG alloy. The QForm 3D program was used to analyze the issue, which allowed to analyze the forging process without the need for expensive tools and technological tests. Based on insights from several variants of numerical calculations, new technology solutions were proposed, reducing the number of deficiencies found in industrial practice. In order to obtain full information about the phenomena occurring in the deformation process, numerical calculations were carried out in the areas of material flow, the degree of filling of blanks, the distribution of deformations and stresses in the various stages of the forging process in the die, and the elimination of defects in products.
