Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a cancer-targeted treatment approach.The occurrence of tumors may be related to microbial infections (Viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc.), which probably provokes anti-tumor immunity. However, T cells in the context of cancer become exhausted and dysfunctional. Galectin-9 (Gal-9) is highly expressed in normal tissues and associates with body immune tolerance, and was firstly evidenced with much higher expression on the primary solid tumors than CD80/86 (B7) and CD274 (PD-L1) here, which suggests that Gal-9 may be a key factor in inhibiting the anti-tumor immunity, and its receptor T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain 3 (TIM-3) was discovered on the cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) with high expression as well based on the single cell analysis. The immune checkpoint communications showed that the Gal-9/TIM-3 axis played the most vital role on negatively regulating the anti-tumor immunity of CTL for melanoma. Then, we used a novel transdermal photothermal nanosensitizer (FSGG) loading Gal-9 siRNA (FSGG/siGal-9) for knocking the tumor cells down Gal-9 to block the Gal-9/TIM-3 axis and prohibit CTL exhaustion synergizing PTT against melanoma, which evidenced good effects on inhibiting tumor growth and enhancing anti-tumor immunity, named "photothermal immunotherapy". Tumor immune escape refers to the inability of the immune system to clear tumor cells, which is one of the major obstacles in designing effective treatment schemes for cancer diseases. Although clinical studies have led to promising treatment outcomes, it is imperative to design theoretical models to investigate the long-term treatment effects. In this paper, we develop a mathematical model to study the interactions among tumor cells, immune escape tumor cells, and T lymphocyte. The chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is also described by the mathematical model. Bifurcation analysis shows that there exists backward bifurcation and saddle-node bifurcation when the immune intensity is used as the bifurcation parameter. The proposed model also exhibits bistability when its parameters are located between the saddle-node threshold and backward bifurcation threshold. Sensitivity analysis is performed to illustrate the effects of different mechanisms on the backward bifurcation threshold and basic immune reproduction number. Simulation studies confirm the bifurcation analysis results and predict various types of treatment outcomes using different CAR T-cell therapy strengths. Analysis and simulation results show that the immune intensity can be used to control the tumor size, but it has no effect on the control of the immune escape tumor size. Simple Summary: Cell therapy is emerging as a promising modality to treat cancers such as hematological malignancies and solid tumors; hence there is a need to develop processes to manufacture and maintain functional and lasting cells. The use of cytokines, as well as transcription and growth factors, is critical to ensure effective cell therapeutics. This is especially important for allogeneic cell therapies that employ induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). The use of iPSC offers the potential to treat a large number of patients with consistent material without relying on limited donor cells and the delay associated with processing immediately before treatment. This paper demonstrates the importance and use of cytokines and growth factors in driving the iPSC-to-effector differentiation and expansion process, which leads to the generation of functional and persistent immune-effector cells such as natural killer cells or T cells. Cytokines and other growth factors are essential for cell expansion, health, function, and immune stimulation. Stem cells have the additional reliance on these factors to direct differentiation to the appropriate terminal cell type. Successful manufacturing of allogeneic cell therapies from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) requires close attention to the selection and control of cytokines and factors used throughout the manufacturing process, as well as after administration to the patient. This paper employs iPSC-derived natural killer cell/T cell therapeutics to illustrate the use of cytokines, growth factors, and transcription factors at different stages of the manufacturing process, ranging from the generation of iPSCs to controlling of iPSC differentiation into immune-effector cells through the support of cell therapy after patient administration. Efforts to treat cancer using chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T therapy have made astonishing progress and clinical trials against hematopoietic malignancies have demonstrated their use. However, there are still disadvantages which need to be addressed: high costs, and side effects such as Graft-versus-Host Disease (GvHD) and Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS). Therefore, recent efforts have been made to harness the properties of certain immune cells to treat cancer—not just T cells, but also natural killer (NK) cells, macrophages (Mφ), dendritic cells (DC), etc. In this paper, we will introduce immune cell-based cellular therapies that use various immune cells and describe their characteristics and their clinical situation. The development of immune cell-based cancer therapy fully utilizing the unique advantages of each and every immune cell is expected to enhance the survival of tumor patients owing to their high efficiency and fewer side effects. In this paper, we incorporate immune systems containing Cytotoxic T lymphocyte and humoral immunity into a general human immunodeficiency viruses infection model, which also considers logistic growth for target cells and both modes of spread, cell-to-cell and cell-free represents, by linear functions. We derive five threshold parameters which are used to study the existence of equilibria. By considering the characteristic equations, the local stability of disease-free and immune-free equilibria is investigated. Lyapunov functions and LaSalle's invariance are constructed to prove the global stability of all steady states. Global dynamics of the human immunodeficiency viruses model can be accurately expressed by threshold parameters; also the existence of Hopf bifurcation is discussed and the results are expressed in the form of a proposition. Breast cancer ranks among the most prevalent malignancies affecting the female population and is a prominent contributor to cancer-related mortality. Mathematical modeling is a significant tool that can be employed to comprehend the dynamics of breast cancer progression and dissemination and to formulate novel therapeutic approaches. This paper introduces a mathematical model of breast cancer that utilizes the Caputo–Fabrizio fractal-fractional derivative. The aim is to elucidate and comprehend the intricate dynamics governing breast cancer cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes in the context of the fractional derivative. The derivative presented herein offers a broader perspective than the conventional derivative, as it incorporates the intricate fractal characteristics inherent in the process of tumor proliferation. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to a novel mathematical model for breast cancer, which incorporates the fractal characteristics of tumor development. The present model possesses the capability to investigate the impacts of diverse treatment strategies on the proliferation of breast cancer, as well as to formulate novel treatment strategies that exhibit enhanced efficacy. This paper formulates and analyzes two mathematical models that describe the within-host dynamics of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) with impairment of both cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and B cells. Both viral transmission (VT) and cellular infection (CT) mechanisms are considered. The second model is a generalization of the first model that includes distributed time delays. For the two models, we establish the non-negativity and boundedness of the solutions, find the basic reproductive numbers, determine all possible steady states and establish the global asymptotic stability properties of all steady states by means of the Lyapunov method. We confirm the theoretical results by conducting numerical simulations. We conduct a sensitivity analysis to show the effect of the values of the parameters on the basic reproductive number. This paper presents and analyzes two mathematical models for the human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) infection with Cytotoxic T Lymphocyte cell (CTL) immune impairment. These models describe the interactions between healthy CD 4 + T cells, latently and actively infected cells, HIV-1 particles, and CTLs. The healthy CD 4 + T cells might be infected when they make contact with: (i) HIV-1 particles due to virus-to-cell (VTC) contact; (ii) latently infected cells due to latent cell-to-cell (CTC) contact; and (iii) actively infected cells due to active CTC contact. Distributed time delays are considered in the second model. We show the nonnegativity and boundedness of the solutions of the systems. Further, we derive basic reproduction numbers ℜ 0 and ℜ ˜ 0 , that determine the existence and stability of equilibria of our proposed systems. We establish the global asymptotic stability of all equilibria by using the Lyapunov method together with LaSalle's invariance principle. We confirm the theoretical results by numerical simulations. The effect of immune impairment, time delay and CTC transmission on the HIV-1 dynamics are discussed. It is found that weak immunity contributes significantly to the development of the disease. Further, we have established that the presence of time delay can significantly decrease the basic reproduction number and then suppress the HIV-1 replication. On the other hand, the presence of latent CTC spread increases the basic reproduction number and then enhances the viral progression. Thus, neglecting the latent CTC spread in the HIV-1 infection model will lead to an underestimation of the basic reproduction number. Consequently, the designed drug therapies will not be accurate or sufficient to eradicate the viruses from the body. This paper addresses the controversy of Granzyme B (GzmB) expression by murine Myeloid Derived Suppressor Cells (MDSCs). MDSCs are a heterogenous immature myeloid population that are generated in chronic inflammatory pathologies for the purpose to suppress inflammatory responses. MDSCs express a multitude of factors to induce suppressive function such as PD-L1, reactive oxygen species (ROS), nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and Arginase-1. Recently, Dufait et al. sought to demonstrate GzmB as an additional mechanism for suppression by MDSCs. They reported that murine MDSCs not only significantly express GzmB as well as Perforin (Prf1), but this expression is functionally important for tumor growth in vivo as well as tumor migration in vitro. We conducted experiments to address the same question but made confounding observations: MDSCs under stringent developmental process do not express GzmB. Our results show that not only GzmB protein is not produced at functional level, but the mRNA transcript is not detectable either. In fact, the GzmB protein found in the media of MDSC culture was due to T cells or natural killer cells contained in bone marrow and cultured alongside MDSCs. We strengthen this finding by genetically deleting GzmB from the myeloid lineage and measuring tumor burden compared to WT counterpart. Our results show no significant difference in tumor burden, suggesting that even if there is minor expression of GzmB, it is not produced at a functional amount to affect tumor growth. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease that appeared in 2019 caused by a virus called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). COVID-19 is still spreading and causing deaths around the world. There is a real concern of SARS-CoV-2 coinfection with other infectious diseases. Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). SARS-CoV-2 coinfection with TB has been recorded in many countries. It has been suggested that the coinfection is associated with severe disease and death. Mathematical modeling is an effective tool that can help understand the dynamics of coinfection between new diseases and well-known diseases. In this paper, we develop an in-host TB and SARS-CoV-2 coinfection model with cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). The model investigates the interactions between healthy epithelial cells (ECs), latent Mtb-infected ECs, active Mtb-infected ECs, SARS-CoV-2-infected ECs, free Mtb, free SARS-CoV-2, and CTLs. The model's solutions are proved to be nonnegative and bounded. All equilibria with their existence conditions are calculated. Proper Lyapunov functions are selected to examine the global stability of equilibria. Numerical simulations are implemented to verify the theoretical results. It is found that the model has six equilibrium points. These points reflect two states: the mono-infection state where SARS-CoV-2 or TB occurs as a single infection, and the coinfection state where the two infections occur simultaneously. The parameters that control the movement between these states should be tested in order to develop better treatments for TB and COVID-19 coinfected patients. In this paper, we propose and study a Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection model with cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) immune response and intracellular delay. This model includes five compartments: uninfected cells, infected cells, viruses, dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4), and CTL immune cells. We obtained an immunity-inactivated reproduction number R 0 and an immunity-activated reproduction number R 1 . By analyzing the distributions of roots of the corresponding characteristic equations, the local stability results of the infection-free equilibrium, the immunity-inactivated equilibrium, and the immunity-activated equilibrium were obtained. Moreover, by constructing suitable Lyapunov functionals and combining LaSalle's invariance principle and Barbalat's lemma, some sufficient conditions for the global stability of the three types of equilibria were obtained. It was found that the infection-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if R 0 ≤ 1 and unstable if R 0 > 1 ; the immunity-inactivated equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable if R 0 > 1 > R 1 and globally asymptotically stable if R 0 > 1 > R 1 and condition (H1) holds, but unstable if R 1 > 1 ; and the immunity-activated equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable if R 1 > 1 and is globally asymptotically stable if R 1 > 1 and condition (H1) holds. In the course of reverse transcription, drug-sensitive strain can mutate to a drug-resistant one. Cell-to-cell transmission is proved to be more efficient than virus-to-cell infection. The population of Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes (CTLs) can be divided into CTL precursors and CTL effectors. Naive CTL precursors are those that never have contacted antigen, circulating around the body. Once the host is infected, CTL precursors (CTLp) begin to proliferate and differentiate into CTL effectors (CTLe), which have antiviral activity. In this paper, we study an HIV model with drug-sensitive and drug-resistant mixed strains, CTLp and CTLe, both viral and cellular infections. The basic reproduction ratios for each strain are derived and the stability of each feasible equilibrium is analyzed by using Routh–Hurwitz criteria. The periodic solutions may occur near the equilibrium with CTL immune response via Hopf bifurcation. Lichen planus is a chronic disease affecting the skin, appendages, and mucous membranes. A cutaneous lichen planus is a rare disease occurring in less than 1% of the general population, while oral illness is up to five times more prevalent; still, both forms equally impair the patient's quality of life. The etiology of lichen planus is not entirely understood. Yet, immune-mediated mechanisms have been recognized since environmental factors such as hepatitis virus infection, mechanical trauma, psychological stress, or microbiome changes can trigger the disease in genetically susceptible individuals. According to current understanding, lichen planus immunopathogenesis is caused by cell-mediated cytotoxicity, particularly cytotoxic T lymphocytes, whose activity is further influenced by Th1 and IL-23/Th-17 axis. However, other immunocytes and inflammatory pathways complement these mechanisms. This paper presents a comprehensive insight into the actual knowledge about lichen planus, with the causal genetic and environmental factors being discussed, the immunopathogenesis described, and the principal effectors of its inflammatory circuits identified. In this paper, we derive a delayed epidemic model to describe the characterization of cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL)-mediated immune response against virus infection. The stability of equilibria and the existence of Hopf bifurcation are analysed. Theoretical results reveal that if the basic reproductive number is greater than 1, the positive equilibrium may lose its stability and the bifurcated periodic solution occurs when time delay is taken as the bifurcation parameter. Furthermore, we investigate an optimal control problem according to the delayed model based on the available therapy for hepatitis B infection. With the aim of minimizing the infected cells and viral load with consideration for the treatment costs, the optimal solution is discussed analytically. The Latvian research results show that patients with CFS/ME are not a risk group for COVID-19; however, COVID-19 causes symptoms similar to CFS/ME. Chronic fatigue syndrome, or myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME), is a debilitating disease with unknown causes that is more common in women and tends to develop between patients' mid-20s and mid-40s. T-cell intracellular antigen 1 (TIA1)-related/like (TIAR/TIAL1) protein is a multifunctional RNA-binding protein (RBP) involved in regulating many aspects of gene expression, independently or in combination with its paralog TIA1. TIAR was first described in 1992 by Paul Anderson's lab in relation to the development of a cell death phenotype in immune system cells, as it possesses nucleolytic activity against cytotoxic lymphocyte target cells. Similar to TIA1, it is characterized by a subcellular nucleo-cytoplasmic localization and ubiquitous expression in the cells of different tissues of higher organisms. In this paper, we review the relevant structural and functional information available about TIAR from a triple perspective (molecular, cellular and pathophysiological), paying special attention to its expression and regulation in cellular events and processes linked to human pathophysiology. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) can establish infection via two distinct modes: virus-to-cell infection and cell-to-cell transmission. These infections prompt the activation of two types of adaptive immune responses: the cytotoxic T lymphocyte response and the antibody response. In this paper, we study HCV dynamics by developing a multiscale model that incorporates both modes of infection as well as the two types of immune responses. We derive both the basic reproduction number of virus and four immune reproduction numbers for the model. We identify five equilibria, the existence of which depends on the values of basic reproduction number of virus and the immune reproduction numbers. We also establish the global asymptotic stability of the equilibria by employing Lyapunov functions, which further underscores the profound impact of the aforementioned reproduction numbers on the model's overall stability. In this paper, a deterministic model characterizing the within-host infection of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) in intrahepatic and extrahepatic tissues is presented. In addition, the model also includes the effect of the cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) immunity described by a linear activation rate by infected cells. Firstly, the non-negativity and boundedness of solutions of the model are established. Secondly, the basic reproduction number R 01 and immune reproduction number R 02 are calculated, respectively. Three equilibria, namely, infection-free, CTL immune response-free and infected equilibrium with CTL immune response are discussed in terms of these two thresholds. Thirdly, the stability of these three equilibria is investigated theoretically as well as numerically. The results show that when R 01 < 1 , the virus will be cleared out eventually and the CTL immune response will also disappear; when R 02 < 1 < R 01 , the virus persists within the host, but the CTL immune response disappears eventually; when R 02 > 1 , both of the virus and the CTL immune response persist within the host. Individuals infected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are under oxidative stress due to the imbalance between reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and elimination. This paper presents a mathematical model with the cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) immune response to examine the role of ROS in the dynamics of HIV infection. We classify the equilibria of the model and study the stability of these equilibria. Numerical simulations show that incorporating ROS and CTL immune response into the model leads to very rich dynamics, including bistable phenomena and periodic solutions. Although the current antiretroviral therapy can suppress viral load to the undetectable level, it cannot eradicate the virus. A high level of ROS may be a factor for HIV persistence in patients despite suppressive therapy. Despite many recent advances on cancer novel therapies, researchers have yet a long way to cure cancer. They have to deal with tough challenges before they can reach success. Nonetheless, it seems that recently developed immunotherapy-based therapy approaches such as adoptive cell transfer (ACT) have emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy against various kinds of tumors even the cancers in the blood (liquid cancers). The hematological (liquid) cancers are hard to be targeted by usual cancer therapies, for they do not form localized solid tumors. Until recently, two types of ACTs have been developed and introduced; tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells which the latter is the subject of our discussion. It is interesting about engineered CAR-T cells that they are genetically endowed with unique cancer-specific characteristics, so they can use the potency of the host immune system to fight against either solid or liquid cancers. Multiple myeloma (MM) or simply referred to as myeloma is a type of hematological malignancy that affects the plasma cells. The cancerous plasma cells produce immunoglobulins (antibodies) uncontrollably which consequently damage the tissues and organs and break the immune system function. Although the last few years have seen significant progressions in the treatment of MM, still a complete remission remains unconvincing. MM is a medically challenging and stubborn disease with a disappointingly low rate of survival rate. When comparing the three most occurring blood cancers (i.e., lymphoma, leukemia, and myeloma), myeloma has the lowest 5-year survival rate (around 40%). A low survival rate indicates a high mortality rate with difficulty in treatment. Therefore, novel CAR-T cell-based therapies or combination therapies along with CAT-T cells may bring new hope for multiple myeloma patients. CAR-T cell therapy has a high potential to improve the remission success rate in patients with MM. To date, many preclinical and clinical trial studies have been conducted to investigate the ability and capacity of CAR T cells in targeting the antigens on myeloma cells. Despite the problems and obstacles, CAR-T cell experiments in MM patients revealed a robust therapeutic potential. However, several factors might be considered during CAR-T cell therapy for better response and reduced side effects. Also, incorporating the CAT-T cell method into a combinational treatment schedule may be a promising approach. In this paper, with a greater emphasis on CAR-T cell application in the treatment of MM, we will discuss and introduce CAR-T cell's history and functions, their limitations, and the solutions to defeat the limitations and different types of modifications on CAR-T cells. In an article in this issue of Developmental Cell and in a second paper in Cancer Cell , Mahadevan et al. demonstrate that KrasG12D suppression remodels the immunosuppressive microenvironment of Kras G12D pancreatic cancers, recruits activated CD8+ cytotoxic T cells, and epigenetically upregulates Fas expression in cancer cells, leading to tumor clearance via Fas/FasL-mediated apoptosis. Nonetheless, it seems that recently developed immunotherapy-based therapy approaches such as adoptive cell transfer (ACT) have emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy against various kinds of tumors even the cancers in the blood (liquid cancers). The hematological (liquid) cancers are hard to be targeted by usual cancer therapies, for they do not form localized solid tumors. A low survival rate indicates a high mortality rate with difficulty in treatment. Therefore, novel CAR-T cell-based therapies or combination therapies along with CAT-T cells may bring new hope for multiple myeloma patients. CAR-T cell therapy has a high potential to improve the remission success rate in patients with MM. To date, many preclinical and clinical trial studies have been conducted to investigate the ability and capacity of CAR T cells in targeting the antigens on myeloma cells. In the literature, several mathematical models have been formulated and developed to describe the within-host dynamics of either human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or human T-lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I) monoinfections. In this paper, we formulate and analyze a novel within-host dynamics model of HTLV-HIV coinfection taking into consideration the response of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). The uninfected CD 4 + T cells can be infected via HIV by two mechanisms, free-to-cell and infected-to-cell. On the other hand, the HTLV-I has two modes for transmission, (i) horizontal, via direct infected-to-cell touch, and (ii) vertical, by mitotic division of active HTLV-infected cells. It is well known that the intracellular time delays play an important role in within-host virus dynamics. In this work, we consider six types of distributed-time delays. We investigate the fundamental properties of solutions. Then, we calculate the steady states of the model in terms of threshold parameters. Moreover, we study the global stability of the steady states by using the Lyapunov method. We conduct numerical simulations to illustrate and support our theoretical results. Immunotherapy is considered as an effective method for cancer treatment owing to the induction of specific and long-lasting anti-cancer effects. Immunotherapeutic strategies have shown significant success in human malignancies, particularly in prostate cancer (PCa), a major global health issue regarding its high metastatic rates. In fact, the first cancer vaccine approved by FDA was Provenge, which has been successfully used for treatment of PCa. Despite the remarkable success of cancer immunotherapy in PCa, many of the developed immunotherapy methods show poor therapeutic outcomes. Immunosuppression in tumor microenvironment (TME) induced by non-functional T cells (CD4+ and CD8+), tolerogenic dendritic cells (DCs), and regulatory T cells, has been reported to be the main obstacle to the effectiveness of anti-tumor immune responses induced by an immunotherapy method. The present review particularly focuses on the latest findings of the immune checkpoints (ICPs), including CTLA-4, PD-1, PD-L1, LAG-3, OX40, B7-H3, 4-1BB, VISTA, TIM-3, and ICOS; these checkpoints are able to have immune modulatory effects on the TME of PCa. This paper further discusses different approaches in ICPs targeting therapy and summarizes the latest advances in the clinical application of ICP-targeted therapy as monotherapy or in combination with other cancer therapy modalities in PCa. This paper proposes and investigates an HIV dynamics model with adaptive immunity. The model describes the interactions between five compartments: healthy CD4+T cells, silent infected cells, active infected cells, free HIV particles, and cytotoxic T lymphocytes and antibodies. The model incorporates two methods of transmission: virus-to-cell and cell-to-cell (CTC). The healthy cells can be infected when they come into contact with free HIV particles or silent infected cells or active infected cells. We established that the model is well-posed by establishing the nonnegativity and boundedness of the solutions. The model has admitted five equilibria, and their existence is governed by five threshold parameters. We prove the global asymptotic stability of the equilibria by constructing Lyapunov functions. We have illustrated the theoretical results by numerical simulations. This paper proposes and analyzes a CTL-mediated HIV infection model. The model describes the interaction between healthy CD4+T cells, silent infected cells, active infected cells, free HIV particles, and cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). The healthy CD4+T cells can be infected when contacted by one of the following: (i) free HIV particles, (ii) silent infected cells, and (iii) active infected cells. The incidence rates of the healthy CD4+T cells with free HIV particles, silent infected cells, and active infected cells are given by general functions. Moreover, the production/proliferation and removal/death rates of all compartments are represented by general functions. The model is an improvement of the existing HIV infection models which have neglected the incidence between the silent infected cells and healthy CD4+T cells. We first show that the model is well posed. The proposed model has three equilibria and their existence is governed by derived two threshold parameters: the basic HIV reproduction number ℜ 0 and the HIV-specific CTL-mediated immunity reproduction number ℜ 1 . Under a set of conditions on the general functions and the parameters ℜ 0 and ℜ 1 , we have proven the global asymptotic stability of all equilibria by using Lyapunov method. Hybrid branching-time logics are a powerful extension of branching-time logics like CTL, CTL⁎ or even the modal μ -calculus through the addition of binders, jumps and variable tests. Their expressiveness is not restricted by bisimulation-invariance anymore. Hence, they do not retain the tree model property, and the finite model property is equally lost. Their satisfiability problems are typically undecidable, their model checking problems (on finite models) are decidable with complexities ranging from polynomial to non-elementary time. In this paper we study the expressive power of such hybrid branching-time logics. We extend the hierarchy of branching-time logics CTL, CTL+, CTL⁎ and the modal μ -calculus to their hybrid extensions. We show that most separation results can be transferred to the hybrid world, even though the required techniques become more involved. This paper studies the global dynamics of a general diffusive hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection model. The model includes both enveloped viruses and DNA containing capsids. Two immune responses are recruited to attack the virus and infected hepatocytes. These are the cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTL) which kill the infected liver cells, and B cells which send antibodies to attack the virus. The non-negativity and boundedness of the solutions are discussed. The existence of spatially homogeneous equilibrium points is examined. The global stability of all possible equilibrium points is proved by choosing suitable Lyapunov functionals. In this paper, we incorporate immune systems into an HIV model, which considers both logistic target-cell proliferation and viral cell-to-cell transmission. We study the dynamics of this model including the existence and stability of equilibria. Based on the existence of equilibria, we focus on the backward bifurcation and forward bifurcation. Considering the stability of equilibria, Hopf bifurcation is discussed by identifying the basic reproduction number R 0 as bifurcation parameter. The direction and stability of Hopf bifurcation are investigated by computing the first Lyapunov exponent. Specially, the effects of immune response on the basic reproduction number R 0 and viral dynamics are addressed by deriving the sensitivity analysis. As a result, we find that the removal rate of infected cells by cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), γ 1 , is the predominant factor of R 0 . However, we conclude from numerical results that it is unfeasible to decrease R 0 by increasing the value of γ 1 constantly. Numerical simulation is also presented to demonstrate the applicability of the theoretical predictions. Many mRNA-based vaccines have been investigated for their specific potential to activate dendritic cells (DCs), the highly-specialized antigen-presenting cells of the immune system that play a key role in inducing effective CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell responses. In this paper we report a new vaccine/gene delivery platform that demonstrates the benefits of using a self-amplifying (“replicon”) mRNA that is protected in a viral-protein capsid. Purified capsid protein from the plant virus Cowpea Chlorotic Mottle Virus (CCMV) is used to in vitro assemble monodisperse virus-like particles (VLPs) containing reporter proteins (e.g., Luciferase or eYFP) or the tandem-repeat model antigen SIINFEKL in RNA gene form, coupled to the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase from the Nodamura insect virus. Incubation of immature DCs with these VLPs results in increased activation of maturation markers – CD80, CD86 and MHC-II – and enhanced RNA replication levels, relative to incubation with unpackaged replicon mRNA. Higher RNA uptake/replication and enhanced DC activation were detected in a dose-dependent manner when the CCMV-VLPs were pre-incubated with anti-CCMV antibodies. In all experiments the expression of maturation markers correlates with the RNA levels of the DCs. Overall, these studies demonstrate that: VLP protection enhances mRNA uptake by DCs; coupling replicons to the gene of interest increases RNA and protein levels in the cell; and the presence of anti-VLP antibodies enhances mRNA levels and activation of DCs in vitro. Finally, preliminary in vivo experiments involving mouse vaccinations with SIINFEKL-replicon VLPs indicate a small but significant increase in antigen-specific T cells that are doubly positive for IFN and TFN induction. This paper studies a mathematical model for the interaction between tumor cells and Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) under drug therapy. We obtain some sufficient conditions for the local and global asymptotical stabilities of the system by using Schur–Cohn criterion and the theory of Lyapunov function. In addition, it is known that the system without any treatment may undergo Neimark–Sacker bifurcation, and there may exist a chaotic region of values of tumor growth rate where the system exhibits chaotic behavior. So it is important to narrow the chaotic region. This may be done by increasing the intensity of the treatment to some extent. Moreover, for a fixed value of tumor growth rate in the chaotic region, a threshold value γ 0 is predicted of the treatment parameter γ. We can see Neimark–Sacker bifurcation of the system when γ = γ 0 , and the chaotic behavior for tumor cells ends and the system becomes locally asymptotically stable when γ > γ 0 . In this paper, a delayed human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) model with apoptosis of cells has been studied. Both immunological and intracellular delay have been incorporated to make the model more relevant. Firstly, the model has been investigated using local stability analysis. Next, the global stability analysis of steady states has been performed. The stability switch criteria taking the delay as the bifurcating parameter, leading to Hopf bifurcation has been studied. The transition of the system from order to chaos has been explored, and the analytical results have been verified by numerical simulations. The results thus can be used to describe the extensive dynamics exhibited by the model introduced in this article. The effects of apoptosis on viral load has been studied in the model numerically. In this paper, the dynamical behaviours for a five-dimensional virus infection model with three delays which describes the interactions of antibody, cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) immune responses and Beddington-DeAngelis incidence are investigated. The reproduction numbers for virus infection, antibody immune response, CTL immune response, CTL immune competition and antibody immune competition, respectively, are calculated. By using the Lyapunov functionals and linearization method, the threshold conditions on the local and global stability of the equilibria for infection-free, immune-free, antibody response, CTL response and interior, respectively, are established. To study the risk of polymorphisms present in the non-coding regions of genes related with cervical cancer. The PubMed database was extensively searched using text-mining techniques to identify literature containing the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms and cervical cancer. Case-control studies published till June 2020 were considered for the meta-analysis if they fulfilled the selection criteria. The polymorphisms within each case-control study were checked for the presence of genotype data and then divided into groups based on the precancerous and cancerous conditions of the cervix. Odds ratio and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to study the effects of polymorphisms with the help of different genetic models (allele, dominant, recessive, heterozygous and homozygous). Also checked heterogeneity along with publication bias and statistical significance using the p -value. 120 papers covering 48 unique non-coding SNPs having 37,123 cases and 39,641 control data was considered for the meta-analysis. The genotype data was categorised into Cancer, Precancer and "Cancer + Precancer" groups, for 43, 8 and 11 SNPs respectively. The meta-analysis identified 21 and 1 SNPs as significant in the Cancer and "Cancer + Precancer" groups. Among all the polymorphisms, rs1143627 (IL1B), rs1800795 (IL6), rs1800871 (IL10), rs568408 (IL12A), rs3312227 (IL12B), rs2275913 (IL17A), rs5742909 (CTLA4), rs1800629 (TNFα), and rs4646903 (CYP1A1) were found to increase risk of cervical cancer in at least three of the five genetic models. We identified potential non-coding SNPs corresponding to various cytokines like interleukins (ILs), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), interferon (IFN) and other immune related genes like toll like receptor (TLR), cytotoxic T-lymphocyte associated protein (CTLA) and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP), as significant with increased pooled OR in this meta-analysis pointing to risk association of the immune-related genes in cervical carcinogenesis. • Comprehensive meta-analysis of non-coding SNPs associated with cervical cancer risk. • Studied 48 polymorphisms from 120 papers with 37,123 cases and 39,641 control data. • Identified 16 SNPs which exhibit high risk association with cervical cancer. • Identified ILs, TNF, IFN, TLR, CTLA & MMP gene SNPs associated with increased risk. Oncolytic virus (OV) is a replication competent virus that selectively invades cancer cells; as these cells die under the viral burden, the released virus particles proceed to infect other cancer cells. Oncolytic viruses are designed to also be able to stimulate the anticancer immune response. Thus, one may represent an OV by two parameters: its replication potential and its immunogenicity. In this paper we consider a combination therapy with OV and a checkpoint inhibitor, anti-PD-1. We evaluate the efficacy of the combination therapy in terms of the tumor volume at some later time, for example, 6 months from initial treatment. Since T cells kill not only virus-free cancer cells but also virus-infected cancer cells, the following question arises: Does increasing the amount of the checkpoint inhibitor always improve the efficacy? We address this question, by a mathematical model consisting of a system of partial differential equations. We use the model to construct, by simulations, an efficacy map in terms of the doses of the checkpoint inhibitor and the OV injection. We show that there are regions in the map where an increase in the checkpoint inhibitor actually decreases the efficacy of the treatment. We also construct efficacy maps with checkpoint inhibitor vs. the replication potential of the virus that show the same antagonism, namely, an increase in the checkpoint inhibitor may actually decrease the efficacy. The aim of this paper is to study the early stage of HBV infection and impact delay in the infection process on the adaptive immune response, which includes cytotoxic T-lymphocytes and antibodies. In this stage, the growth of the healthy hepatocyte cells is logistic while the growth of the infected ones is linear. To investigate the role of the treatment at this stage, we also consider two types of treatment: interferon-α (IFN) and nucleoside analogues (NAs). Cross-presentation of apoptotic cell associated antigens by immature dendritic cells prevents the activation of self reactive CD8 T cells. Tolerized self reactive CD8 T cells down-regulate IL-7R expression on their surface. Whether over-expression of IL-7R can reverse their fate and function has not been examined. In this paper, we showed forced expression of IL-7R in OT-I T cells by a transgene enhanced CD8 T cell mediated diabetes in the RIP-mOVA model. Although IL-7R Tg (transgenic) did not completely reverse the deletion of OT-I T cells, it provided a significant survival advantage over w.t OT-I T cells. Furthermore, IL7R Tg OT-I T cells isolated from diabetic pancreata displayed increased production of IFN-γ, higher expression of T-bet, and increased externalization of CD107a. We also found that immature DCs containing apoptotic cells expressed high levels of PDL-1 on their surface. Although IL-7R Tg did not change PD1 expression on activated OT-I cells in vivo, the transgene enabled a significantly lower number of OT-I T cells to induce diabetes in the absence of PDL-1. Our results demonstrated that forced expression of IL-7R not only improved the functionality of tolerized CD8 T cells, it also acted in synergy with PDL-1 deficiency to further promote CD8 T cell cytotoxicity to self antigens. In this paper, a pathogen dynamics model with capsids and saturated incidence has been proposed and analyzed. Cytotoxic T Lymphocyte (CTL) immune response and two distributed time delays have been incorporated into the model. The nonnegativity and boundedness of the solutions of the proposed model have been shown. In this paper, a diffusive and delayed virus dynamics model with Crowley-Martin incidence function and CTL immune response is investigated. By constructing the Lyapunov functionals, the threshold conditions on the global stability of the infection-free, immune-free and interior equilibria are established if the space is assumed to be homogeneous. In this paper we consider a combination therapy of cancer. One drug is a vaccine which activates dendritic cells so that they induce more T cells to infiltrate the tumor. The other drug is a checkpoint inhibitor, which enables the T cells to remain active against the cancer cells. The two drugs are positively correlated in the sense that an increase in the amount of each drug results in a reduction in the tumor volume. We consider the question whether a treatment with combination of the two drugs at certain levels is preferable to a treatment by one of the drugs alone at ‘roughly’ twice the dosage level; if that is the case, then we say that there is a positive ‘synergy’ for this combination of dosages. To address this question, we develop a mathematical model using a system of partial differential equations. The variables include dendritic and cancer cells, CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, IL-12 and IL-2, GM-CSF produced by the vaccine, and a T cell checkpoint inhibitor associated with PD-1. We use the model to explore the efficacy of the two drugs, separately and in combination, and compare the simulations with data from mouse experiments. We next introduce the concept of synergy between the drugs and develop a synergy map which suggests in what proportion to administer the drugs in order to achieve the maximum reduction of tumor volume under the constraint of maximum tolerated dose. M. M. Hadjiandreou, R. Conejeros and V. S. Vassiliadis ( Math. Biosci. Eng. 4 (2007) 489-504) proposed an ODE model of long-term HIV infection dynamics. This model considers all important population compartments including macrophages, latently-infected CD4+ T cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), which in many respects is novel in the field of mathematical modeling of HIV infection. The purpose of the paper is to simplify their model into a five-dimensional HIV dynamics model, and give a detailed classification on the existence of the equilibria of the reduced model by introducing four reproductive numbers. Then the global asymptotic stability of each equilibrium is analyzed by constructing suitable Lyapunov functions. In this paper, the global dynamical behaviors for a four-dimensional HIV infection model with intracellular delay and production delay which describes the interactions of cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) immune responses and general incidence rate are investigated. By using suitable Lyapunov functionals and LaSalle's invariance principle, the global stability of infection-free equilibrium, CTL-absent infection equilibrium and CTL-present infection equilibrium are established, respectively. These results can be applied to a variety of viral infection diseases that would make it possible to devise optimal treatment strategies.
