This paper is aimed to propose an improved boost DC-DC converter, based on the idea of switched-capacitor and switched-boost converters. A modified version of the conventional switched-capacitor switched-boost converter is proposed, particularly suitable for high power applications. The major contributions concern the reduction of the stress in the power components as well as the voltage ripple reduction. Indeed, the current of the switches as well as the current of the diodes are reduced in the proposed converter. Nevertheless, the proposed idea slightly affects the boost factor of the converter.The performance of the proposed step-up DC-DC converter is evaluated through some simulations done in MATLAB.

International audience; This paper proposes fault-tolerant (FT) operation of a single-switch dc-dc converter under a switch failure. In order to improve the reliability in critical applications, FT operation is mandatory to guarantee service continuity. The FT operation of a power system can be performed in three steps: fault diagnosis (detection and identification) and remedial actions. In the case of a switch failure, suitable fault detection is essential to avoid its propagation to the whole system. This study is based on a fast and efficient open-and short-circuit switch fault diagnosis. Both types of switch failure can be detected, identified, and handled in real time by implementing fault diagnosis and reconfiguration strategies on a field-programmable gate array target. No additional sensor is required to perform the fault detection. A redundant switch and a bidirectional switch are needed for converter reconfiguration in postfault operation. The results of hardware-in-the-loop and experimental tests, which all confirm the good performances of the proposed approach, are presented and discussed.

The main goal of this paper is to obtain the optimal Distributed Generation (DG) investments as well as purchase additional power from Transmission Companies (TRANSCOs). To do this, a new mathematical modeling and a new software package interfacing between the two powerful softwares MATLAB and GAMS are used. The proposed model optimizes total system planning costs and consequently costumers’ bills, reduces total system losses, guaranties system voltage profiles and prevents feeders’ congestion. This new model and software package have been executed in two different cases depending if system voltage profiles are in their permissible margin or not; in each case, three different scenarios are studied, depending on planning problem constraints. The simulation results show the economical and electrical benefits of DG installation by solving the distribution system planning problem and by improving power quality of the distribution system. It is illustrated that DG installation also can increase the main feeders’ lifetime by reducing their loading and adds the benefit of using the existing distribution system for further load growth without the need for feeders upgrading

In this paper, we proposed a new control method for a three-phase hybrid active filter, based on a classical active filter topology connected in series with a passive filter. The non linear load is a diode rectifier feeding a (R, C) parallel load. The proposed method is based on two Self Tuning Filters placed in both feedback and feedforward loops dedicated to eliminate the 5th and 7th harmonic frequency. The feedforward loop consists in two branches, the first one to remove the 5th harmonic and the second one to remove the 7th harmonic frequency. The use of Self Tuning Filters simplifies the control scheme by reducing the number of extraction filters used in classical feedback and feedforward loops. More, in this case, no Phase Locked Loop is necessary for the feedforward loop. The effectiveness of the new proposed scheme has been verified by computer simulation and the results are compared with the classical control scheme

This paper presents a novel fault tolerant converter topology for grid connected Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) with Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). This topology allows fast fault detection and compensation of one of the semiconductors or drivers by using isolating and connecting devices. It is based on a unique redundant leg for both back to backconverters. We present a new detection algorithm, robust to false fault detection due to semiconductor switching. Simulation results are presented cases on both back-to-back converters and both hyper and hypo synchronous conditions.
