Purpose: To evaluate anterior and posterior segment parameters in the eyes of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) and examine the effect of disease and disease subtypes on these parameters. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 54 eyes of 27 SSc patients and 54 eyes of 27 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. In addition to a complete ophthalmologic examination, all patients were examined using a Scheimpflug camera, specular microscopy, and spectral domain optical coherence tomography. Results: The mean age of the patients was 52.5 ± 11.4 years and 19 patients were female. Anterior chamber volume, central corneal thickness, and central macular thickness (CMT) were significantly lower in the eyes of SSc patients compared to healthy controls (p = 0.01, p = 0.03, and p = 0.006, respectively). When evaluated according to SSc subtype, CMT was lower in diffuse SSc patients (p = 0.001), while mean retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and inferior quadrant RNFL values were lower in limited SSc (p = 0.003 and p = 0.005, respectively). Conclusion: In the eyes of patients with SSc, some ocular parameters may show decreases compared to healthy individuals, presumably secondary to disease-related vasculopathy and fibrosis. OBJECTIVE: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a rheumatologic disease with severe morbidity and mortality. Many studies in the literature showing that serum antibodies against anti-mutated citrullinated vimentin (anti-MCV ab) can be elevated in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. However, there is little data in the literature about the levels of anti-MCV antibodies in AS patients. We designed the study to evaluate the role of anti-MCV antibody in the diagnosis of AS and to investigate whether it is associated with disease activity parameters. METHODS: There were three separate groups in our study. The number of participants in these groups is 60 patients in the AS group, 60 patients in the RA group, and 50 healthy participants in the control group. The anti-MCV ab levels of the participants were measured by enzyme-like immune assay method. We compared anti-MCV levels between groups. We then evaluated its role in the diagnosis of AS and evaluated its relationship with disease activity parameters. RESULTS: The anti-MCV antibody levels of both AS (p=0.006) and RA (p>0.001) patients were found to be significantly higher than controls. Anti-MCV antibody was higher than predefined threshold level (20 IU/mL) in 4 of 60 (6.7%) AS patients. Anti-MCV levels are similar in patients with or without a -acceptable symptom state (PASS). There is also no appropriate anti-MCV cutoff level with respect to PASS and a highly sensitive and specific level for diagnosis of AS. CONCLUSION: Although AS patients has higher anti-MCV levels than controls, it may have a limited ability to AS diagnosis and to predict severity of the disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The definition of geriatric patient (GP) includes individuals aged 60 and over. Therefore, it may be necessary for rheumatologists to be aware of the problems they may encounter when planning the treatment of this privileged group and to have guidelines to guide doctors in arranging the treatment of rheumatological diseases. The aim of this study is to examine whether there are specific recommendations for GP in the rheumatology treatment guidelines published to date. Methods: The treatment guidelines of the he European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), published between 1970 and 2022, were reviewed in detail by two rheumatologists in terms of specific recommendations for GP. In these guidelines, recommendations for the age range (=60 years), recommendations containing keywords, and items that seem to be relevant to elderly patients were noted. Results: Within the scope of the study, 38 EULAR and 11 ACR treatment guidelines were reviewed. In total, 6 (12.2%) guidelines were found to have special recommendations for elderly patients. Guidelines with specific recommendations were EULAR points to consider for the management of difficult-to-treat rheumatoid arthritis, Points to consider for the development, evaluation and implementation of mobile health applications for self-management in patients with rheumatic diseases, 2019 update of EULAR recommendations for Vaccination in Adult Patients with Autoimmune Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases, EULAR Recommendations for prevention and management of osteoporotic fractures, EULAR Points to consider for monitoring (detection/prevention) comorbidities in inflammatory rheumatic diseases, 2015 Recommendations for the management of polymyalgia rheumatica: An EULAR/ACR collaborative initiative. Conclusion: Few recommendations specific to GP have been found in treatment guidelines. In this study, the most vital characteristic properties of induction motor, motor starting, maximum and nominal torque are analyzed for what are affected. For the analysis of torque, L type, T type and IEEE 112 equivalent circuit model is employed. Torque change is investigated with the help of codes developed in MATLAB to be used in electrical machines course. First, the slip-moment characteristic curve of the induction motor is divided into three working zones and it was determined which equivalent circuit model gave the best results in these study zones. Later, such parameters as stator and rotor resistance, stator and rotor reactance, magnetization reactance, core resistance and slip are researched for how torque values are affected from. The obtained values for each of the three equivalent circuit models are given and compared with experimental results. 50 HP squirrel cage induction motor parameters are used in analysis. In the analysis, the most influential parameters on the starting torque are found as rotor resistance and stator and rotor reactance. Change of other parameters’ impact ratio depending upon right proportion and inverse proportion is observed. When nominal torque variations are investigated, again rotor resistance is the most influential parameter and by selecting proper factor effecting rotor resistance during design, the result of acquiring desired rotor resistance is obtained. When the maximum torque variations are examined, it appears that the stator and rotor reactance values are effective. Starting, maximum and nominal torque expressions change with square of voltage alters the effect on them a lot. Therefore, triangle or star connection importance arises during machine design.
