The COVID-19 pandemic has had an enormous impact on almost all aspects of human society and endeavor; the natural world and its conservation have not been spared. Through a process of expert consultation, we identified and categorized, into 19 themes and 70 subthemes, the ways in which biodiversity and its conservation have been or could be affected by the pandemic globally. Nearly 60% of the effects have been broadly negative. Subsequently, we created a compendium of all themes and subthemes, each with explanatory text, and in August 2020 a diverse group of experienced conservationists with expertise from across sectors and geographies assessed each subtheme for its likely impact on biodiversity conservation globally. The 9 subthemes ranked highest all have a negative impact. These were, in rank order, governments sidelining the environment during their economic recovery, reduced wildlife-based tourism income, increased habitat destruction, reduced government funding, increased plastic and other solid waste pollution, weakening of nature-friendly regulations and their enforcement, increased illegal harvest of wild animals, reduced philanthropy, and threats to survival of conservation organizations. In combination, these impacts present a worrying future of increased threats to biodiversity conservation but reduced capacity to counter them. The highest ranking positive impact, at 10, was the beneficial impact of wildlife-trade restrictions. More optimistically, among impacts ranked 11-20, 6 were positive and 4 were negative. We hope our assessment will draw attention to the impacts of the pandemic and, thus, improve the conservation community's ability to respond to such threats in the future.

SOCIAL problems , *RESOURCE exploitation - Abstract
The current development model is structured around the intensive exploitation of natural resources, which implies the expansion of extractive activities as a source of capital accumulation. In this sense, and given the centrality of the environment-development binomial, the objective of this paper is to analyze the multiple dimensions (narrative, symbolic, cultural, political, economic, territorial, etc.) involved in the extractivist model. The proposed methodology consists of compiling bibliographic sources and carrying out a referential sampling in order to give a schematic account of the main approaches, points in common and the different ways of approaching the problem from the social sciences, as well as their contributions and limitations. The main findings show the importance of respecting the peculiarities of the case studies and the relevance of researching alternative literatures that allow a better understanding of the phenomena under study. Occasional papers ,environment, nature, corpus linguistics, phraseology, cultural orientations ,L-LIN/12 Lingua e traduzione - Lingua inglese - Abstract

We often look to the examples set by other countries when thinking about how to deal with problems at home. But what explains why some countries are more likely to serve as role models than others? Are people influenced mainly by the examples set by countries that are considered to be particularly successful in a given policy area? Or are they influenced to a greater extent by countries that are more familiar to them, or that appear more similar to their own? In this paper, we test these hypotheses using two large (n |$\ > {\rm{\ }}$| 2,000) survey-based experiments conducted in the United States. The first focuses on environmental issues, while the second focuses on human rights issues. In both studies, the respondents were presented with a randomly drawn list of countries and asked to indicate how relevant the examples that these countries set should be to policy discussions in the United States. Our results suggest that the US public's perception of the relevance of other countries' experiences is driven primarily by the extent to which the respondent perceives the other countries as familiar to them, or similar to the United States, rather than by more objective measures of policy success. Paperless policies applied in enterprises represent a source of moral standards at all levels. The culture should be disseminated to officials of organizations has an impact on development and the achievement of goals, the delivery of products at just the right time and how to minimize time, costs and ensuring the smooth operation management allocated resources. It is very important to emphasize the positive environmental contribution that can be delivered to our planet, considering that the decrease in deforestation poses to humanity, keep the lungs of the earth and allows us to have a positive quality of life. On the other hand consider the benefits that are available with the benefits of technology to show progress in business and market position, allowing the opportunity to grow as competitive businesses.

HERMENEUTICS , *ECOLOGY , *SOLIDARITY , *PRAXIS (Process) , *POSSIBILITY - Abstract
The main goal of this paper is to discuss the connection between Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics and environmental issues as a kind of eco-hermeneutics. In this sense, one seeks to discuss the contribution of Gadamer's ontological-practical thought in ecological terms as a branch of philosophy in which issues around the environment constitute a common point in the scope of human praxis. Pointing out the ecological crisis as an essential issue, Gadamer indicates a way to think about the constitution of the way of being in the world with others, situated on a current and increasingly degraded sphere of praxis. In essence, he offers an interpretative horizon to ecological questioning as an avenue through which to think about hermeneutical solidarity in terms of ecological solidarity and thereby provide a possibility of rehabilitating praxis from the shared environment. COVID-19 pandemic , *AIR pollution , *STAY-at-home orders , *AIR quality - Abstract
The global pandemic due to the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus has caused significant impact on various sectors of society, e.g., health, science, and economy, with a remarkable change in environmental aspects. The present study focused on an analysis of the spread of COVID-19 in South America, highlighting the impacts of lockdown policies on the air quality in the main cities of ten countries during the pandemics, furthermore, through simple regression statistical models, the behavior of accumulated daily cases of COVID-19 in 13 countries was characterized. The lockdown strategy was one of the first measures adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO) to control the spread of the coronavirus, significantly reducing traffic and industrial activities. This measure has surprisingly improved the air quality in four of the 13 South American cities studied, e.g., Guarulhos (Brazil), Santiago de Chile (Chile), Bogota (Colombia), and Lima (Peru), with reductions in PM2.5, PM10, and ozone (O3). The propagation behavior of COVID-19 in South America and the environmental impact analyses provided in this paper demonstrate the intense effect of commercial and industrial activities and can be used to subsidize future reductions in pollution and disease contamination. This paper provides a look at the social conflicts that have taken place in Costa Rica during the Covid-19 pandemic (January 2020 and December 2021). This study comes from the registered collective actions and the experiences of the "Community Observatory of Collective Actions." Based on this data, four axes of conflict were identified during this period: a) The demand for rights and defense of indigenous territories, b) Communities in defense of water and the environment, c) Draft laws that threaten common goods, d) Labor conflicts and pollution in the production of monocultives.
