Paper-based test film material is widely used in a variety of test instruments for different applications. The enzyme activity test paper sheet is one of the most popularly used test papers. Here we present a novel fabrication of paper-based enzyme activity test paper without cationic resin added in. The chemical pulping fibers were first beaten to different degrees (from 14.6 to 41.5°SR) with a PFI beater. After that, the fibers were modified with a cationic agent (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride) under the system of alkali and water solution. Finally, the test papers were made with the modified fiber by a regular paper former in lab. The results showed that beating is beneficial for the improvement of the cationization reaction which is indicated by the Zeta potential, FTIR and EDS. The main mechanisms involved are the destruction of crystalline zone, increase of free hydroxyl group and defibrillation. This hypothesis was supported by the SEM, XRD and fiber analyzer. In this study, a series of conductive composite wires were successfully prepared by combining dispersions of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCNFs) with different MWCNTs contents into a dispersion of partially deacetylated α-chitin nanofibers (α-DECHNs) followed with a drying process. The TOCNFs/MWCNTs/α-DECHNs composite wires were prepared by extruding the negatively charged TOCNFs/MWCNTs dispersion into the positively charged α-DECHNs dispersion. The contact of the positively charged α-DECHNs and the negatively charged TOCNFs/MWCNTs triggers the electrostatic interaction (heterocoagulation) resulting in wire-shaped conductive composites. The SEM analysis indicates this conductive composite material has a wire-like shape with a rough but tight surface. The properties of samples were characterized by a zeta potential analyzer (Zetasizer Nano), a four-probe, an electrochemical workstation, a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and a thermogravimetric analyzer (TG). Besides, the conductivity and the AC impedance of TOCNFs/MWCNTs/α-DECHNs composite wires with different MWCNTs contents were also analyzed. The conductivity of the composite wire increases from 9.98 × 10 - 6  S∙cm - 1 to 1.56 × 10 - 3  S∙cm - 1 as the MWCNTs content raises from 3.0 wt% to 14.0 wt%. When the MWCNTs content reaches 14.0 wt%, the prepared composite wire can light up LED at a voltage of 5 V, indicating the great potential of this biomass-based conductive composite in conductive material application., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V. A novel nanocomposite microgel based on nanocellulose and amphoteric polyvinylamine (PVAm) was fabricated via a two-step method. Firstly, cellulose nanocrystal was oxidized by sodium periodate to yield dialdehyde nanocellulose (DANC). DANC was then used as a crosslinker to react with PVAm to obtain a pH responsive microgel with high density of free amine groups. The microgel was characterized using FTIR, XRD, AFM and elemental analysis. AFM images revealed that the nanocomposite was microspherical particles with a diameter ranging from 200 to 300nm. The microgel was found to be effective in anionic dye removal at acidic conditions. The adsorption isotherms for congo red 4BS, acid red GR and reactive light yellow K-4G fit well with the Sips model, and the maximum adsorption capacities were 869.1mgg(-1), 1469.7mgg(-1) and 1250.9mgg(-1), respectively. In this work, 28 cholinium ionic liquids (ILs), most of which are good solvents for dissolving lignin, were used for rice straw pretreatment to improve subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis. The anion exerted a significant effect on the pretreatment effectiveness of the IL as well as the subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency of rice straw residues. The presence of the basic group(s) in the anion significantly enhanced the IL pretreatment effectiveness, while the carboxyl, hydroxyl and aromatic groups had a negative impact on IL delignification. Except for amino acid-based ILs, the delignification abilities of the ILs are linearly and positively correlated with the pKa values of the conjugate acids of the anions. Of the ILs tested, amino acid-based ILs, especially basic amino acid-based ILs, are the most effective pretreatment solvents. Satisfactory reducing sugar yields (81% for glucose and 26% for xylose) were obtained in the enzymatic hydrolysis of rice straw pretreated by cholinium argininate ([Ch][Arg]) under a pretty mild pretreatment severity (60°C, 6 h). A new method has been developed for the determination of hydroxide, sulphide, thiosulphate, sulphate, sulphite, chloride, oxalate and formate in kraft green, white and black liquors by capillary electrophoresis. The method provides baseline resolution of all analytes of interest using an electrolyte composed of 10 mM sodium chromate and 2 mM tetradecyltrimethylammonium hydroxide. Separations are conducted under constant current conditions at 25 degrees C and analytes are quantified by indirect UV-detection at 275 nm. A brief, post run wash of the capillary with 0.5 M NaOH and water gave improved inter- and intra-run repeatability of both migration times and peak areas. Sulphide and other oxysulphur species were relatively stable in white and green liquors diluted in helium-sparged water. However, sulphide present in black liquor samples diluted in the same solvent underwent rapid oxidation to form sulphite and thiosulphate. thereby precluding the measurement of all three anions. We discovered that quinone-type compounds present in black liquor catalyze the oxidation of sulphide and that the addition of reduced glutathione at a concentration of I mg/mL during black liquor dilution completely stabilized sulphide, sulphite and thiosulphate for at least one hour, thus allowing for quantitative analysis of the analytes. A mechanism is proposed to explain the action of both quinones and that of glutathione. Results obtained by the new method compared well with those obtained by ion chromatography, titrimetry, and from spike-recovery experiments.
