Background: Game‐based learning can frame problem‐solving as a sense‐making experience with domain‐specific tasks for school students. However, multiple challenges arise when trying to support learners in such a complex, problem‐oriented learning environment. Objectives and Methods: With an architecture‐themed mathematics learning game, we conducted two mixed‐method studies to explore the impact and design of game‐based mathematical experience on the math problem‐solving performance of middle school students. Results and Conclusions: The study findings suggested a positive impact of game‐based math experience on math problem‐solving for middle school students. Problematization‐oriented game‐based math tasks with structuring features enhanced students' reasoning with problems and channelled it to doing mathematics. Takeaways: The current research findings support the initiative to frame learning as a sense‐making experience with domain‐specific tasks and inform the design of game‐based mathematical experience and learning support. Mathematics modelling is a vital competency for students of all ages. In this study, we aim to fill the research gap about valid and reliable tools for assessing and grading mathematical modeling problems, particularly those reflecting multiple steps of the modelling cycle. We present in this paper the design of a reliable and valid assessment tool aimed at gauging the level of mathematical modelling associated with real-world modeling problems in a scientific-engineering context. The study defines and bases the central modelling processes on the proficiency levels identified in PISA Mathematics. A two-dimensional rubric was developed, reflecting the combined assessment of the type and level of a modelling process. We identified criteria that enable a clear comparison and differentiation among the different levels across each of the modelling processes. These criteria allow for concrete theoretical definitions for the various modelling processes, introducing a well-defined mathematical modelling framework from a didactical viewpoint, which can potentially contribute to promoting modelling competencies or the understanding of modelling by teachers and students. In order to supplement and improve the landscape evaluation system of traditional villages and play a positive guiding role in the specific protection and development of village landscape, this paper proposes the ecological landscape environment evaluation of traditional villages in Guanzhong from the perspective of rural revitalization. First of all, the relevant national and provincial evaluation standards are deeply studied, and the comprehensive evaluation system of the traditional village landscape in the Guanzhong region is constructed by using expert scoring and an analytic hierarchy process, which includes 6 criteria and 25 indicators. Three typical villages of different types and different development stages, namely, village A, village B, and Village C, were selected for landscape investigation and comprehensive evaluation. The results show that the weight of village location and landscape pattern is the largest, that is, the most important. The second is architectural landscape, with a weight of 0.236, accounting for a high proportion. Then, it is the natural landscape and street landscape, with a weight of 0.1-0.2. Finally, it is the intangible cultural landscape and landscape style protection, with a weight of less than 0.1. The alpha value of the comprehensive evaluation questionnaire of the village A is 0.984. The alpha value of the comprehensive evaluation questionnaire of village B is 0.941. The alpha value of the comprehensive evaluation questionnaire for the landscape of village C is 0.986, which is greater than 0.8. Conclusion. This paper solves the bid construction problem (BCP) for heterogeneous truckload operations. Exact and heuristic solution methods are proposed to solve the BCP. The heuristic framework is based on a destroy-repair principle coupled with local search procedures. A heuristic variant integrating a post-optimization method considering solutions obtained during the heuristic search is also proposed. The exact approach uses CPLEX to solve an adapted arc-based mathematical formulation with our best heuristic solution as an initial solution. A brain-computer interface (BCI), based on motor imagery EEG, uses information extracted from the electroencephalography signals generated by a person who intends to perform any action. One of the most important issues of current research is how to detect automatically whether the user intends to send some message to a certain device. This study presents a proposal, based on a hierarchical structured system, for recognising intentional and non-intentional mental tasks on a BCI system by applying machine learning techniques to the EEG signals. First-level clustering is performed to distinguish between intentional control (IC) and non-intentional control (NC) state patterns. Then, the patterns recognised as IC are passed on to a second stage where supervised learning techniques are used to classify them. In BCI applications, it is critical to correctly classify NC states with a low false positive rate (FPR) to avoid undesirable effects. According to the literature, we selected a maximum FPR of 10%. Under these conditions, our proposal achieved an average test accuracy of 66.6%, with an 8.2% FPR, for the BCI competition IIIa dataset. The main contribution of this paper is the hierarchical approach, based on machine learning paradigms, which performs intentional and non-intentional discrimination and, depending on the case, classifies the intended command selected by the user. Providing complete mobility along with minimizing the poor quality of service (QoS) is one of the highest essential challenges in mobile wireless networks. Handover prediction can overcome these challenges. In this paper, two novel prediction schemes are proposed. The first, depends on scanning the quality of all signals among mobile station and all nearby stations in the surrounding area, while the second one is based on a multi-criteria prediction decision using both the signal-to-noise ratio SNR value and station’s bandwidth. Moreover, the prediction efficiency is improved by reducing the number of redundant/ unnecessary handovers. The proposed schemes are evaluated using different scenarios with several mobile stations’ numbers, different WLAN access points, LTE-base station number & location, and random mobile station movement manner. The proposed schemes achieved a success rate of 99% with the different scenarios using LTE-WLAN architecture. The performance of the proposed prediction schemes outperformed the performance of the existing prediction schemes in terms of the accuracy percentage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper discusses the Archimath programme, which was designed to develop awareness of the built environment in elementary school students, and to initiate an effort to improve it. Acknowledging the relationship between education and awareness of the environment, the programme was constructed for use with elementary school students selected from fourth to eighth grades, as an integrated mathematics and architecture programme. It includes topics from an introductory course for architecture majors and from the elementary mathematics curriculum. The programme was implemented in several pilot schools in Istanbul and was evaluated in accordance with activity sheets, pre- and post-perception tests, and the views and comments of the teachers who carried out the programme. It was revised and reorganized in accordance with this feedback and then implemented again on different groups of students in the selected schools. Ultra-tight integration was first proposed by Abbott in 2003 with the purpose of integrating a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and an inertial navigation system (INS). This technology can improve the tracking performances of a receiver by reconfiguring the tracking loops in GNSS-challenged environments. In this paper, the models of all error sources known to date in the phase lock loops (PLLs) of a standard receiver and an ultra-tightly integrated GNSS/INS receiver are built, respectively. Based on these models, the tracking performances of the two receivers are compared to verify the improvement due to the ultra-tight integration. Meanwhile, the PLL error distributions of the two receivers are also depicted to analyze the error changes of the tracking loops. These results show that the tracking error is significantly reduced in the ultra-tightly integrated GNSS/INS receiver since the receiver's dynamics are estimated and compensated by an INS. Moreover, the mathematical relationship between the tracking performances of the ultra-tightly integrated GNSS/INS receiver and the quality of the selected inertial measurement unit (IMU) is derived from the error models and proved by the error comparisons of four ultra-tightly integrated GNSS/INS receivers aided by different grade IMUs. Many studies have used patient-specific finite element models to estimate the stress environment in atherosclerotic plaques, attempting to correlate the magnitude of stress to plaque vulnerability. In complex geometries, few studies have incorporated the anisotropic material response of arterial tissue. This paper presents a fibre remodelling algorithm to predict the fibre architecture, and thus anisotropic material response in four patient-specific models of the carotid bifurcation. The change in fibre architecture during disease progression and its affect on the stress environment in the plaque were predicted. The mean fibre directions were assumed to lie at an angle between the two positive principal strain directions. The angle and the degree of dispersion were assumed to depend on the ratio of principal strain values. Results were compared with experimental observations and other numerical studies. In non-branching regions of each model, the typical double helix arterial fibre pattern was predicted while at the bifurcation and in regions of plaque burden, more complex fibre architectures were found. The predicted change in fibre architecture in the arterial tissue during plaque progression was found to alter the stress environment in the plaque. This suggests that the specimen-specific anisotropic response of the tissue should be taken into account to accurately predict stresses in the plaque. Since determination of the fibre architecture in vivo is a difficult task, the system presented here provides a useful method of estimating the fibre architecture in complex arterial geometries. In this paper, the dynamical behaviors of Chua's Bernoulli-shift rule 56 are investigated from the viewpoint of symbolic dynamics on the bi-infinite sequence space. It is shown that rule 56, a member of Wolfram's class IL defines two chaotic dynamical subsystems and possesses very rich and complicated dynamical properties. In addition, the topological entropy of rule 56 is calculaled on its subsystems and the global attractor of rule 56 is characterized. Meanwhile, the isles of Eden of rule 56 are explored for some finite length of binary strings, which reveal its Bernoulli characteristics. The method presented in this work is also applicable to studying the dynamics of subsystems of other rules, especially the 112 Bernoulli-shift rules of the elementary cellular automata. Newton's polynomial interpolation may be the favourite linear interpolation in the sense that it is built up by means of the divided differences which can be calculated recursively and produce useful intermediate results. However Newton interpolation is in fact point based interpolation since a new interpolating polynomial with one more degree is obtained by adding a new support point into the current set of support points once at a time. In this paper we extend the point based interpolation to the block based interpolation. Inspired by the idea of the modern architectural design, we first divide the original set of support points into some subsets (blocks), then construct each block by using whatever interpolation means, linear or rational and finally assemble these blocks by Newton's method to shape the whole interpolation scheme. Clearly our method offers many flexible interpolation schemes for choices which include the classical Newton's polynomial interpolation as its special case. This paper considers a second-year Mathematical Aspects in Architectural Design course, which relies on a first-year mathematics course and offers mathematical learning as part of hands-on practice in architecture design studio. The 16-hour course consisted of seminar presentations of mathematics concepts, their application to covering the plane by regular shapes (tessellations), and an architecture design project. The course follow-up examined the features of mathematical learning in the studio environment using qualitative methods. It showed students" curiosity and motivation to deepen in mathematical subjects and use them in their tessellation design projects. In current day situation we come across numerous mathematical challenges. This could be overwhelmed by the Vedic Mathematics. Vedic Mathematics is an ancient approach to solve problems in a rapid manner. In this paper the design of a novel Vedic square and multiplier architecture based on Yavadunam Sutra is proposed. Yavadunam is a squaring sutra of the Vedic Mathematics. We have designed a generic architecture for this squaring sutra and have designed a high speed Vedic binary multiplier architecture using the principles of Yavadunam sutra. The proposed multiplier offers significant improvement in speed.
