The purpose of this research was to examine the connections between work stress, sources of relief, and job satisfaction. Information was gathered from people working in the hotel and catering industries as meal servers. Job demands, job control, and the relationship between work-life balance practices were shown to have the greatest impact on occupational stress in a hierarchical regression analysis. The findings also showed that a greater stress level was the consequence of a combination of high job expectations, limited job control, and the lack of work-life balance practices. Consequences for Karasek's model of employment demand management, managerial practice, and future study are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
