Differential diagnosis is important for clinical management of cases with thyroid diseases. We aimed to find the most useful diagnostic panel including immunohistochemistry markers and BRAF 600E mutation for papillary thyroid carcinoma. The study included 99 papillary thyroid carcinoma, 95 benign thyroid disease and 6 well differentiated tumour of uncertain malignant potential cases. Three groups were compared for immunohistochemistry marker expressions (CK19, Gal-3, HBME-1, p63, CD56). Diagnostic contribution of BRAF V600E mutation and its relationship with the immunohistochemistry and prognostic parameters were evaluated. CK19, Gal-3, HBME-1 and p63 positivity and loss of CD56 expression were significantly higher in papillary thyroid carcinoma than in benign thyroid disease. Gal-3 was the most useful marker to differentiate both papillary thyroid carcinoma and well-differentiated tumour of uncertain malignant potential cases from benign thyroid disease. CK19&HBME-1 and CK19&-Gal-3 dual panels had the highest sensitivities and high specificities for distinguishing papillary thyroid carcinoma from benign thyroid disease. Moreover, CK19&Gal-3 dual panel had the highest sensitivity and specificity to distinguish well-differentiated tumour of uncertain malignant potential from benign thyroid disease. In addition, CK19&Gal-3&HBME-1 was the most sensitive triple panel in differentiating both papillary thyroid carcinoma and well-differentiated tumour of uncertain malignant potential cases from benign thyroid disease. When combined with immunohistochemistry markers, the BRAF V600E reduced sensitivities and increased specificities towards malignancy, and it was not associated with prognostic parameters except for histological subtypes. Amiodarone is a class III antiarrhythmic drug containing 37% iodine by weight, with a structure similar to that of thyroid hormones. Deiodination of amiodarone releases large amounts of iodine that can impair thyroid function, causing either hypothyroidism or thyrotoxicosis in susceptible individuals reflecting ~20% of patients administered the drug. Not only the excess iodine, but also the amiodarone (or its metabolite, desethylamiodarone) itself may cause thyroid dysfunction by direct cytotoxicity on thyroid cells. We present an overview of the epidemiology and pathophysiology of amiodarone-induced thyroid disorders, with a focus on the various forms of clinical presentation and recommendations for personalized management of each form. Context: Physiological alterations challenge the assessment of maternal thyroid function in pregnancy. It remains uncertain how the reference ranges vary by week of pregnancy, and how the classification of disease varies by analytical method and type of thyroid function test.Design: Serum samples from Danish pregnant women (n = 6282) were used for the measurement of thyrotropin (TSH), total and free thyroxine (T4), total and free 3,5,3'-triiodothyronine (T3), and T-uptake using "Method A" (Cobas 8000, Roche Diagnostics). TSH and free T4 were also measured using "Method B" (ADVIA Centaur XP, Siemens Healthineers).Main Outcome Measures: Pregnancy week- and method-specific reference ranges were established among thyroid antibody-negative women (n = 4612). The reference ranges were used to classify maternal thyroid function, and results were compared by analytical method and type of thyroid function test.Results: The reference ranges for TSH showed a gradual decrease during pregnancy weeks 4 to 14, a gradual increase was observed for total T4, total T3, and T-uptake, whereas free T4 and free T3 showed less variation. When TSH and free T4 were used, Method A classified 935 (14.9%) with abnormal thyroid function, Method B a total of 903 (14.4%), and the methods agreed on 554 individuals. When TSH and total T4 were used, 947 (15.1%) were classified with abnormal thyroid function, and classifications by either total T4 or free T4 agreed on 584 individuals.Conclusions: Even when pregnancy week- and method-specific reference ranges were established, the classification of maternal thyroid dysfunction varied considerably by analytical method and type of thyroid function test. Background: Subclinical thyroid dysfunction - abnormal serum thyrotrophin (thyroid-stimulating hormone; TSH) concentrations with normal free thyroxine (FT4) is common in older people. It remains unclear whether individuals with subclinical serum status experience an increased symptom profile.Aim: To compare the prevalence of those symptoms typically associated with overt thyroid dysfunction in older individuals with a subclinical and euthyroid serum profile.Design and Setting: Cross-sectional study, nested within the Birmingham Elderly Thyroid Study (BETS); from 19 UK general practices.Method: Adults living in a community setting (aged ≥65 years), without overt thyroid dysfunction or associated treatment, self-reported the presence or absence of 18 symptoms (while serum result naïve). Serum concentrations of TSH and FT4 were measured to establish thyroid status.Results: A total of 2870 individuals were screened: 2703 (94%) were categorised as euthyroid (normal), 29 (1%) subclinically hyperthyroid, and 138 (5%) subclinically hypothyroid. Symptoms were common in all groups. No significant differences in the prevalence of individual symptoms were observed between the euthyroid and subclinically hypothyroid groups nor in comparison with the subclinically hyperthyroid group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis failed to reveal an association between individual or multiple symptoms and subclinical status.Conclusion: Findings suggest that subclinical thyroid dysfunction does not confer a symptom burden in older individuals and support adherence to guidelines in the non-treatment of subclinical thyroid dysfunction. GPs may use the findings to reassure older people presenting with symptoms that subclinical thyroid dysfunction is an unlikely explanation. The presence of persistently abnormal TSH concentrations may be linked to long-term risks of cardiovascular disease, especially atrial fibrillation, but whether this should prompt treatment and whether such treatment alters vascular outcomes is unknown. Aim: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of thyroid disease (TD) in untreated CD patients and to evaluate the effect of gender and age on its prevalence. Background: Celiac disease (CD) is a form of intestinal malabsorption syndrome which is closely related to endocrine disorders, especially autoimmune thyroid disease and diabetes. The prevalence of TD is possibly high among patients with CD which necessitates the need for screening for TD among them. Methods: This comparative cross-sectional study was conducted on 288 consecutive untreated patients with CD (mean age, 27.9±14) and 250 controls (mean age, 29.01±13.15) referred for endoscopy in a hospital located in Iran. Thyroid function was evaluated by measuring T3, T4, and TSH levels using ELISA technique, and testing anti-thyroperoxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies through electrochemiluminescence method. Data analysis was conducted in SPSS v.22 software using descriptive statistics and chi-squared test. Results: Thyroid disease prevalence was 4-fold higher in patients than in controls (13.6% vs. 3.2%, p<0.05). Hypothyroidism was diagnosed in 30 patients and 7 controls, while hyperthyroidism was observed in 9 patients and in one control. Chi-squared test results reported a significant difference in TD prevalence between patients and controls based on gender and age (p<0.05). In both groups, women were significantly more affected than men, and the TD prevalence was higher in younger patients compared to adults. Adequate thyroid hormone availability is important for an uncomplicated pregnancy and optimal fetal growth and development. Overt thyroid disease is associated with a wide range of adverse obstetric and child development outcomes. An increasing number of studies now indicate that milder forms of thyroid dysfunction are also associated with these adverse pregnancy outcomes. The definitions of both overt and subclinical thyroid dysfunction have changed considerably over the past few years, as new data indicate that the commonly used fixed upper limits of 2.5 mU/l or 3.0 mU/l for thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) are too low to define an abnormal thyroid function. Furthermore, some studies now show that the reference ranges are not necessarily the best cut-off for identifying pregnancies at high risk of adverse outcomes. In addition, data suggest that thyroid peroxidase autoantibody positivity and high or low concentrations of human chorionic gonadotropin seem to have a more prominent role in the interpretation of thyroid dysfunction than previously thought. Data on the effects of thyroid disease treatment are lacking, but some studies indicate that clinicians should be aware of the potential for overtreatment with levothyroxine. Here, we put studies from the past decade on reference ranges for TSH, determinants of thyroid dysfunction, risks of adverse outcomes and options for treatment into perspective. In addition, we provide an overview of the current views on thyroid physiology during pregnancy and discuss strategies to identify high-risk individuals who might benefit from levothyroxine treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in the diagnosis of thyroid nodules in the acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) "gray zone" (the shear wave velocity is in the range 2.5-3 m/s). ARFI was performed before thyroidectomy in 70 patients with 200 thyroid nodules, and then CEUS was performed in 40 thyroid nodules in the "gray zone." The accuracy of ARFI for the 200 thyroid nodules was 82% (164/200). The accuracy of ARFI for the 40 "gray zone" thyroid nodules was 70% (28/40), whereas the accuracy of CEUS for the "gray zone" thyroid nodules was 90% (36/40). There was a significant difference in accuracy (p < 0.05). CEUS has better accuracy for thyroid nodules in the ARFI "gray zone." The aims of our study were to determine whether shear wave elastography (SWE) can improve the conventional B-mode differentiation of thyroid lesions, determine the most accurate SWE parameter for differentiation and assess the influence of microcalcifications and chronic autoimmune thyroiditis on SWE values. We examined 119 patients with 169 thyroid nodules who prospectively underwent B-mode ultrasound and SWE using the same ultrasound machine. The parameters assessed using SWE were: mean elasticity within the entire lesion (SWE-whole) and mean (SWE-mean) and maximum (SWE-max) elasticity for a 2-mm-diameter region of interest in the stiffest portion of the lesion, excluding microcalcifications. The discriminant powers of a generalized estimating equation model including B-mode parameters only and a generalized estimation equation model including both B-mode and SWE parameters were assessed and compared using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, in association with pathologic verification. In total, 50 and 119 malignant and benign lesions were detected. In generalized estimated equation regression, the B-mode parameters associated with higher odds ratios (ORs) for malignant lesions were microcalcifications (OR = 4.3), hypo-echogenicity (OR = 3.13) and irregular margins (OR = 10.82). SWE-max was the only SWE independent parameter in differentiating between malignant and benign tumors (OR = 2.95). The area under the curve for the B-mode model was 0.85, whereas that for the model combining B-mode and SWE parameters was 0.87. There was no significant difference in mean SWE values between patients with and without chronic autoimmune thyroiditis. The results of the present study suggest that SWE is a valuable tool for the characterization of thyroid nodules, with SWE-max being a significant parameter in differentiating benign and malignant lesions, independent of conventional B-mode parameters. The combination of SWE parameters and conventional B-mode parameters does not significantly improve the diagnosis of malignant thyroid nodules. Background. There are limited epidemiological studies evaluating the effect of age at onset on disease features in vitiligo. Objectives. To identify factors associated with adult onset vitiligo in comparison with childhood onset vitiligo. Patients and Methods. We retrospectively collected medical records of 191 patients. Such records included clinical examination, personal and familial medical history, laboratory evaluations, concomitant vitiligo treatment and drug assumption. Results. 123 patients with a disease onset after the age of 40 (adult onset vitiligo) were compared with 68 patients who developed vitiligo before the age of 12 (childhood onset vitiligo). Multivariate analysis revealed that personal history of thyroid diseases (P=0.04; OR 0.4), stress at onset (P=0.002; OR = 0.34), personal history of autoimmune thyroid disease (ATD) (P=0.003; OR = 0.23), and thyroid nodules (P=0.001; OR 0.90) were independently associated with adult onset vitiligo, whereas family history of dermatological diseases (P=0.003; OR = 2.87) and Koebner phenomenon (P<0.001; OR = 4.73) with childhood onset vitiligo. Moreover, in the adult onset group, concomitant thyroid disease preceded vitiligo in a statistically significant number of patients (P=0.014). Conclusions. Childhood onset and adult onset vitiligo have different clinical features. In particular, ATD and thyroid nodules were significantly associated with adult onset vitiligo, suggesting that a thyroid screening should be recommended in this group of patients. Objectives Thyroid dysfunction is a common medical condition affecting an estimated 30 million people in the US alone. Employing gold standard Liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MSMS) methods we have examined the extent of inaccuracy of immunoassay (IA) measurement for total T3 (TT3) at low, normal and high concentrations. Design and Methods 268 TT3 Roche Cobas 6000 immunoassay TT3 values (covering the low, normal, and high ranges) were compared with LC–MSMS results. Results At TT3 concentrations between 50 and 113 ng/dL (conversion factor for TT3 to SI Units is ng/dL × 0.0154 = nmol/L), n = 122, LC–MSMS values were lower than immunoassay with 72% found to be below the 2.5th percentile by LC–MSMS compared to 27% for immunoassay. Strikingly 45% of the patients classified as normal TT3 by immunoassay were defined as lower than the 2.5th percentile by LC–MSMS. Only 38 of the 122 patients with low T3's were not receiving T4. In this latter group all of whom had TSH's > 3.7 mIU/L, 74% of results by LC–MSMS were below the 2.5th percentile while only 21% were below the 2.5th percentile by IA. The clinical consequences of these inaccuracies may affect whether dosing with T4 or combination of T4 with T3 is selected for treatment. Finally the correlation of TT3 with TSH was far superior when TT3 was measured by LC–MSMS. A typical case which demonstrates our message is included. Conclusion T3 being the active hormone needs to be reliably measured and if the patient has low TT3 and hypothyroid symptoms persist; treatment with T3 should be considered. A typical case report is included to illustrate the problems of inaccurate immunoassay results for TT3. Measurement of TT3 by immunoassay at low concentrations is less than optimal and often provides the clinician with a normal result when the LC–MSMS method and the patient's clinical condition suggests that supplementation with T3 (as in combination therapy) may be required to optimize patient care. Background: Total thyroidectomy is increasingly used as a surgical approach for many thyroid conditions. Subsequently, postoperative hypocalcaemia is observed with increasing frequency, often resulting in prolonged hospital stay, increased use of resources, reduced quality of life and delayed return to work. The administration of vitamin D is essential in the therapy of postoperative hypocalcaemia; calcitriol is most commonly used. What has not been examined so far is whether and how routine preoperative vitamin D prophylaxis using calcitriol can help to prevent postoperative hypocalcaemia. This study evaluates routine preoperative calcitriol prophylaxis for all patients who are to undergo a total thyroidectomy, compared with the current standard of post-treatment, i.e., selective vitamin D treatment for patients with postoperative hypocalcaemia.Methods/design: This clinical observational (minimal interventional clinical trial) trial is a multicentre, prospective, randomized superiority trial with an adaptive design. Datasets will be pseudonymized for analysis. Patients will be randomly allocated (1:1) to the intervention and the control groups. The only intervention is 0.5 μg calcitriol orally twice a day for 3 days prior to surgery. For the primary endpoint measure (number of patients with hypocalcaemia), hypocalcaemia is defined as serum calcium of less than 2.1 mmol/l on any day during the postoperative course; this measure will be analyzed using a Chi-square test comparing the two groups. Secondary endpoint measures, such as number of days to discharge, quality of life, and economic parameters will also be analyzed.Discussion: By virtue of the direct comparison of clinically and economically relevant endpoints, the efficacy as well as efficiency of preoperative calcitriol prophylaxis of hypocalcaemia will be clarified. These results should be available 24 months after the first patient has been enrolled. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of quantitative histogram parameters using real-time tissue elastography (RTE) in the diagnosis of patients with diffuse thyroid disease. One hundred and sixteen patients (mean age, 43.7 ± 10.97 y) who had undergone pre-operative staging ultrasonography and RTE were included. For each patient, 11 parameters were obtained from RTE images, from which the "elastic index" was calculated. Diagnostic performance of the elastic index and that of the 11 parameters on RTE were calculated and compared. Of the 116 patients, 31 had diffuse thyroid disease and 85 had normal thyroid parenchyma. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (Az) of MEAN (average relative value) elasticity was high (0.737), without significant differences from other elasticity values. Diagnostic performance of the elastic index was higher than the MEAN, Az = 0.753, without significance (p = 0.802). In conclusion, RTE using the elastic index was found to have good diagnostic performance and may be useful in the diagnosis and management of patients with diffuse thyroid disease. Abstract: The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic values of thyroid ultrasound (US) and neck computed tomography (CT) in incidentally detecting diffuse thyroid disease (DTD). A single radiologist made US and CT diagnoses of incidentally detected DTD in 130 consecutive patients before thyroidectomy for various malignancies. Histopathologic examinations confirmed normal thyroid (n = 80), Hashimoto thyroiditis (n = 20), non-Hashimoto lymphocytic thyroiditis (n = 28) and diffuse hyperplasia (n = 2). Receiver operating characteristic curves revealed that the best diagnostic indices of both imaging methods were achieved on the basis of two or more abnormal imaging findings. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of US and CT in incidentally detecting DTD by this classification were 72% and 72%, 87.5% and 91.3% and 81.5% and 83.8%, respectively. Abstract: Two methods for determination of internal dose due to 131I intake during the preparation and handling of iodine radiopharmaceutical products have been compared. The first method was based on the measurement of 131I in 24-hour urine samples while the second method was based on the measurement in vivo of 131I in thyroid. The results have shown that urine analysis method can be used as a screening test but not for internal dose assessment of exposed workers. Thyroid monitoring method was found to be more reliable and accurate method for assessing internal dose from 131I intake. In addition, the assessed internal dose showed that the annual internal effective dose for some workers was below 1mSv with no risk classification, whereas the results of other group of workers were between 1 and 6mSv with low risk classification. Background: Five percent to 20% of thyroid nodule fine-needle aspiration (FNA) samples are nondiagnostic. The objective of this study was to determine whether a combination of FNA and core biopsy (CFNACB) would yield a higher proportion of diagnostic readings compared with FNA alone in patients with a history of one or more prior nondiagnostic FNA readings. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 90 core biopsies (CBs) performed in 82 subjects (55 women and 27 men) between 2006 and 2008 in an outpatient clinic. Results: CFNACB yielded a diagnostic reading in 87%. The diagnostic reading yield of the CB component of CFNACB was significantly superior to the concurrent FNA component, with CB yielding a diagnosis in 77% of cases and FNA yielding a diagnosis in 47% ( p<0.0001). The combination of CB and FNA had a higher diagnostic reading yield than either alone. In 69 nodules that had only one prior nondiagnostic FNA, CB was diagnostic in 74%, FNA was diagnostic in 52%, CFNACB was diagnostic in 87%, and CB performed significantly better than FNA ( p=0.0135). In 21 nodules with two or more prior nondiagnostic FNAs, CFNACB and CB were diagnostic in 86%, FNA was diagnostic in 29%, and CB was significantly better than FNA ( p=0.0005). Clinical, ultrasound, or histopathologic follow-up was available for 81% (73/90) of the CFNACB procedures. No subject with a benign CFNACB reading was diagnosed with thyroid malignancy in the follow-up period (range 4-37 months, mean 18 months), although one subject had minimal increase in nodule size and was awaiting repeat sonography at study conclusion. Conclusion: Thyroid nodule CFNACB is safe and clinically useful in selected patients when a prior FNA reading is nondiagnostic. CFNACB is superior to either CB or FNA alone. Multiple classifier fusion may generate more accurate classification than each of the constituent classifiers. The aim was to examine the ensemble performance by the comparison of boosting, bagging and fixed fusion methods for aiding diagnosis. Real-life medical data set for thyroid diseases recognition was applied. Different fixed combined classifiers (mean, average, product, minimum, maximum, and majority vote) built on parametric and nonparametric Bayesian discriminant methods have been employed. No very significant improvement of recognition rates by a fixed classifier combination was achieved on the examined data. The best performance was obtained for resampling methods with classification trees, for both the bagging and the boosting combining methods. The bagging and the boosting logistic regression methods have proven less efficient than the bagging or the boosting of neural networks. Abstract: In this study, the ultrasound images of thyroid nodules were classified to facilitate clinical diagnosis and management. The hierarchical support vector machines (SVM) classification system was used to select the characteristic sonographic textural feature that represents the major histopathologic components of the thyroid nodules. Two ultrasound systems (LA39 and i12L mentioned in the Materials and Methods section) were used for comparison. Seventy-six thyroid nodular lesions and 157 regions-of-interest thyroid ultrasound image from each system were recruited in the study. The parameters affecting image acquisition were kept in the same condition for all lesions. Commonly used texture analysis methods were applied to characterize thyroid ultrasound images. Image features were classified according to the corresponding pathologic findings. To estimate their relevance and performance to classification, SVMs were used as a feature selector and a classifier. The thyroid nodules are first categorized as two main types, i.e., follicle base and fibrosis base nodule, by sum average. The follicle base nodules can be further and completely classified into follicles with few cells, follicles with follicular cells and follicles with papillary cancer cells by run length nonuniformity (RLNU). The fibrosis base nodules are further classified by sum square into fibrosis with few cells and fibrosis with dominant cells. The fibrosis base neoplasm with dominant cells can be separated into fibrosis with follicular cells and fibrosis with papillary cancer cells by entropy. The hierarchical SVM classification system achieves a diagnostic accuracy between 96.34% and 100%. Besides, the best sonographic textural feature can be selected by the system for the differentiation between the follicle and fibrosis base thyroid nodules or the cell types mixed in them. In follicle base thyroid nodules, papillary cancers show higher sonographic textural RLNU but less than follicular cells. Thyroid hormones produced by the thyroid gland help regulation of the body’s metabolism. Abnormalities of thyroid function are usually related to production of too little thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism) or production of too much thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism). Thyroid disease diagnosis via proper interpretation of the thyroid data is an important classification problem. In this study, a comparative thyroid disease diagnosis were realized by using multilayer, probabilistic, and learning vector quantization neural networks. Purpose: To determine which nodular areas provide most adequate and accurate material for cytology during US-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) of thyroid nodules.Material and Methods: In a prospective multicentre study, US-guided FNAB (0.8 mm) was performed in 342 thyroid nodules (338 patients, 285 women, 18-83 years, 285 palpable). Histology was obtained in 169 nodules, revealing 75 neoplasms (44.4%) including 18 cancers (10.7%). In 206 solid nodules, 2 passes (central and peripheral) were compared. In 82 complex nodules, 2 passes (solid area and cystic area) were compared.Results: The inadequacy rate was 16.4% and the false-negative rates were 2.2% and 28.1% for the diagnosis of cancer and neoplasm, respectively. In solid nodules, material was more adequate with peripheral passes compared to central passes, but the difference was not significant. In complex nodules, the inadequacy rate was much higher for passes in cystic areas (80.5%) compared to passes in solid areas (46.3%).Conclusion: Cystic areas due to degeneration seldom provided adequate material when aspirated. Aspiration should always be obtained from solid areas, at best using US-guidance. Adenomas and non-neoplastic nodules were difficult to distinguish. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The overall prevalence of thyroid hormone use in an unselected population of older adults (n = 2575; average age, 68.6 years) was 6.9% (10.0% in women and 2.3% in men). Eighty-one percent of women taking it were doing so for appropriate indications, eg, hypothyroidism, while 12% were not, eg, for obesity or high serum cholesterol; more men (29%) were taking it inappropriately. Inappropriate use was associated with desiccated thyroid more than with thyroxine. After follow-up averaging 6.9 years, 58% of inappropriate users were still taking it. Underuse also occurred. Thirty-seven percent of those definitely hypothyroid had a clearly elevated serum thyrotropin level (greater than 10 mU/L) despite thyroid therapy. Thyroid therapy is common in the elderly; most is appropriate. When inappropriate use occurs, it is more common in men and more often associated with desiccated thyroid, still commonly used in this age group. In chronic users of thyroid hormone, it is important to review currently appropriate indications and to measure serum thyrotropin levels to assess the adequacy of treatment of primary hypothyroidism. Abstract: Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the value of shear wave velocity value (SWV) and shear wave velocity ratio (SWR) in differentiating between malignant and benign thyroid nodules using virtual touch tissue quantification (VTQ) of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) technology. Methods: The SWV and SWR were analyzed in 155 thyroid nodules in 155 patients (93 benign and 62 malignant) and eighty normal thyroid glands. The diagnostic performance of SWV and SWR were compared. Results: The mean value of SWV of malignant nodules differed significantly from those of the benign nodules (6.34±2.58m/s vs. 2.15±0.59m/s, P <0.05) and the normal thyroid (1.96±0.31m/s, P <0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the mean value of SWV of benign nodules and normal thyroid (P >0.05). The mean value of SWR of malignant nodules differed significantly from those of the benign nodules (2.99±1.45 vs. 1.07±0.34, P <0.05). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive values, negative predictive values and accuracy of SWV in differentiating between malignant and benign nodules were 96.80%, 95.70%, 93.75%, 97.80% and 96.13% respectively based on the cutoff point as 2.84m/s. Those of SWR were 91.90%, 81.70%, 77.03%, 93.83% and 85.83% based on the cutoff point as 1.32. The diagnostic accuracy rate of SWV was statistically higher than that of SWR (P <0.05). Conclusion: VTQ of ARFI technology provides the quantitative information of thyroid tissue elasticity and has high accuracy rate in differentiating between malignant and benign nodules.
