Abstract
The article presents the information that spatial data technologies are poised to transform India's power sector. Here computer-enabled tools can be used to iron out sporadic power operations as well as boost power quality. With this in mind, late last year, leading players from India's power industry gathered at a "Spatial IT for Power Systems" seminar in Bangalore, to identify today's key power issues and discuss how spatial technologies can help. Despite the lessons to be learnt from spatial IT, importance has to be placed on the interconnection of regional grids that would lead to a National Grid. And like any country, India also needs consistent deregulation across its entire generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure to move its power sector forward.
