Runtime verification (RV) refers to methods for formal reasoning about all aspects of the dynamic execution of systems, including hardware, software, and cyber-physical systems. RV includes techniques to assess and enforce correctness of a system against systemic bugs or extrinsic uncertainties. These methods are typically considered lightweight as they may not involve exhaustive verification or proofs, but they provide a higher level of rigor and versatility compared to conventional testing methods. This article introduces the extended versions of selected papers from the peer-reviewed proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Runtime Verification (RV 2020). This article focuses on the Electrochemical Society meeting held in Los Angeles, California. The first symposium of the Physical and Analytical Electrochemistry Division focused on Durability and Reliability of Low-Temperature Fuel Cells and Fuel Cell Systems. This symposium presented Outstanding Student Paper Awards to students of various universities of the United States. For example, Vishal Mittal of the University of Connecticut got the award for his paper entitled, "Factors Accelerating Membrane Degradation Rate and the Underlying Degradation Mechanism in PEMFC." In this paper, experiments were performed to elucidate the factors and conditions important for photoelectromagnetic degradation.

The Editors of the Journal "Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory" invited Professor Gary L. Holstrum and Professor Theodore J. Mock to submit this synopsis of the University of Southern California Audit Judgment Symposium in the belief that many audit researchers and professionals who were not able to attend the conference would benefit from the report. A significant area of audit judgment is the evaluation of audit evidence. This synopsis of audit judgment and evidence evaluation research is based upon papers and presentations made at the 1985. The evaluation of audit evidence may be based on one of several models of inference. Audit evidence could be evaluated according to a Bayesian inference model, a non-Bayesian statistical model, a hierarchical or cascaded inference model, a causal reasoning model, or some other form of inference model. Strengths and weaknesses of various inference models were discussed at the Symposium. The Symposium began with presentations of some current behavioral science research on inference models that are expected to be relevant to audit evidence evaluation.

The papers appearing in this special issue of the "IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering" periodical are based on papers that originally appeared in the proceedings of the First International Conference on Data Engineering which was held in Los Angeles, California, on April 25-27, 1984. The paper by Braegger, Dudler, Rebsamen and Zehnder was selected as the best paper at the conference by the awards committee, and concerns a database tool called Gambit. This design tool is based on an extended relational/entity relationship model and assists the designer with a wide variety of subtools. The paper by Farmer, King, and Myers is also about a design tool which is called the Semantic Database Constructor (Sedaco). It is based on a semantic data model which buffers the designer from most low level data structuring issues.

The Third International Conference on Data Engineering was held in Los Angeles, California on February 2 to 6, 1987. Johnston Club in Los Angeles, Calif. (November 7, 1998). The theme of the workshop, ‘Steroid Action on Brain and Behavior’ was intended to provide a general and comparative overview of steroid action on brain and behavior from an evolutionary perspective. To this end, the order of talks was gauged towards a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms that mediate steroid action on brain and behavior. The first three talks considered how steroids organize, activate, and modify the structure and function of neural systems in mammals (Marc Breedlove), birds (Greg Ball; Juli Wade) and reptiles (Juli Wade). The next two talks focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that mediate brain-steroid interactions in vertebrates (Frank Moore and Harold Zakon). The last talk (Janis Weeks) consolidated many of the above ideas by addressing how steroids interact at molecular and cellular levels to reorganize neural circuits and behavior during insect metamorphosis. In the spirit of the J.B. Johnston Club, the workshop generated lively discussions on new and established theories on steroid action on brain and behavior from comparative and evolutionary perspectives. The articles contained within this issue expand on these issues by providing new ideas and fresh insights into how steroids act in the brain to bring about changes in behavior. The 26th international Visible Evidence documentary conference was convened in Los Angeles in late-July 2019, marking a decade since the conference was last held in the city. For the first time in the conference's history, there were entire panels dedicated specifically to virtual reality (VR) as a medium for documentary. Based on an address given at the April 1995 INFORMS meeting in Los Angeles, this paper's purpose is to suggest the opportunities that the Pacific Rim will bring to OR/MS and INFORMS. It first looks at the two important needs in the profession: to improve the scope of its communications with the public and to expand the context in which OR/MS work is done. After describing some of the radically unfamiliar and different conditions affecting enterprises on the Pacific Rim and suggesting their important challenges, the paper describes some influences acting to inhibit the free growth of the profession and its contributions to society. It closes by suggesting how meeting the challenges of the Pacific Rim cannot only help solve the problems this new context poses, but also help prepare the profession for its larger international future. This paper was an introduction to the mini-conference, "The Conference as Ritual" The Sacred Journey of the Art Educator," organized by Harold Pearse, Cynthia Taylor and myself for the NAEA Convention in Los Angeles, April 1988. Art Educators from Canada and the United States along with Dr. Michael Owen Jones, author and director of the Folklore and Mythology Center at UCLA (our non-participant observer) looked at our annual spring pilgrimage to various hotels in the United States from historical, psychological, philosophic, structural and ethnographic perspectives. As the introduction to the mini-conference, my paper specifically recounts the ways that I, an individual presenter, have tried to break out of the ritual forms of presentation through the years. A conference paper about contemporary art aesthetics and grotesque, discussed at the Society for Photographic Education's Western Regional Conference held in Los Angeles, California in 1997, is presented. It argues against the use of the terms "beauty" and "visual pleasure" in describing art works. It describes various photographic works in an effort to explain the concept of grotesque. The author concludes that generational quirks influence the eternal truth about grotesque and visual pleasure.

The article presents information on the National Ad Hoc Forum of Film/Video Schools and its conferences. The Forum an organization of seventeen university film/video departments concerned with film/video as an artistic, professional, and academic discipline. The genesis of the Forum took place in August 1977 when a small group met at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, to consider the possibility of starting an orderly self-examination of film/video schools in disciplinary terms. To address this need, the group recommended a structured conference/workshop, which took place in August 1978 at the University. The discussion was focused on commissioned position and rebuttal papers that dealt with three broad categories: diversity and scope of the field; academic processes; and, supportive resources.
