We present a review of central exclusive dijet production in collisions, where the proton and antiproton emerge intact, and only two jets of transverse energy above a certain threshold are present in the final state. The results are published in two papers by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) Collaboration, a PRL (2000) and a PRD (2008), based on data collected at and 1.96 TeV, respectively, and a D0 Collaboration paper from studies at 1.96 TeV. In all three cases predictions for the cross-section of Higgs boson production are discussed, a process that proceeds via a similar mechanism as dijet production. Roman Pot Spectrometers equipped with tracking detectors are used to measure the outgoing antiproton (CDF and D0) and proton (D0), and special forward detectors are employed to help reduce backgrounds and enrich the data in diffractive and exclusive dijet events. "Or" is associated, in Gricean approaches, with the readings Inclusive ("at least one, and possibly both, options are true") and Exclusive ("exactly one option is true"). Empirical findings show adults favoring Exclusive readings; but for children, the literature yields puzzling results. Laboratory comprehension tasks suggest children favor Inclusive, but naturalistic evidence suggests children's "or" productions are overwhelmingly Exclusive. We first identify problems with previous research. Methodologically, asking children to provide truth judgements (the dominant experimental task) is not a child-friendly task. And theoretically, Inclusive and Exclusive are not optimal categories for classifying "or" readings. To resolve the comprehension-production puzzle, we adopt Ariel and Mauri's richer analytic classification of "or" constructions, where Inclusive and Exclusive as such are not speaker-intended readings, and there are several, rather than one, "single-option" (Exclusive) readings. We apply this framework in analyzing the Berman corpus of Hebrew child language; and in designing a new, more ecologically valid, experimental task. Study 1 shows that in child-directed-speech, one specific Exclusive "or" construction, Choice Immediate (e.g., ↗Chocolates? Or ↘jelly beans?), is (i) the single dominant "or" function addressed to children, (ii) the one "or" reading children consistently respond appropriately to, and (iii) virtually the only "or" construction children produce. In Study 2, we present young children with a task involving this familiar "or" construction. The children respond with adult-like mastery even in the absence of a supporting context. Introduction: The exclusive breastfeeding rate for six months in the Northeast region of Thailand has recently significantly decreased, in contrast to all other regions in Thailand. Facebook is widely used worldwide to enhance knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours that support breastfeeding. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a Facebook programme for husbands' support of exclusive breastfeeding during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We employed a quasi-experimental study design conducted from September 2020 to November 2021. Data were collected from two tertiary hospitals in Thailand, involving a total of 72 participants— 36 in the experimental group and 36 in the control group. These participants were husbands of postpartum women admitted to the postpartum wards. Four research instrument were the demographic questionnaire, the Husband's EBF Knowledge, Husband's EBF Attitude, and Husband's EBF Behavior Questionnaires. Demographic data were analysed using frequency distribution, percentages, and the Chi-square test. The mean difference in husbands' exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) knowledge scores was analysed using an independent samples t-test. Results: At baseline, there was no significant difference in husbands' exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) knowledge scores between the experimental and control groups (p = 0.82). By the 1st month, there was a significant difference in the mean scores of husbands' EBF knowledge between the two groups (p < 0.01). However, the mean score of attitude at 6-month (mean=108.03, SD=19.89) was higher than the mean score of behaviour at baseline (mean=101.81, SD=17.99), but it was not significant (p=0.40). In addition, the different score of behaviour among baseline (mean=65.86, SD=7.02) and 6-month (mean=68.58, SD=10.42) was not significant (p=0.24). Conclusion: The findings suggest that the Facebook programme is an effective platform for conveying exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) knowledge to husbands in Northeast Thailand during the COVID-19 pandemic. The kinetic study carried out in paper I of this series (preceding article) on enzyme systems involving zymogen activation and the simultaneous action of two different, mutually exclusive inhibitors (Scheme 1) allows, new dimensionless kinetic parameters to be suggested. These parameters furnish quantitative information about the relative weight of the activation and inhibition routes, i.e. the conditions under which the activation prevails over the inhibition and vice versa, as well as the absolute and relative contributions to overall inhibition of each of the inhibition routes and their synergistic effect. Abstract. This paper shows that Finnish has the option of expressing ‘only’-like exclusive meaning with a clausal construction, here called the Exclusive-Negative Construction, ENC. It is similar to the better-known French ne…que construction but differs from it at many points where Finnish and French grammar differ, especially in the way negation is expressed in the two languages. The Finnish ENC contains overt negation, which accounts for its somewhat narrower distribution than the alternative option, the use of the focus particle vain/vaan ‘only’. Adopting the Construction Grammar framework, the paper argues that the ENC is a simple clausal construction with the idiosyncrasy of mixed polarity, a formal division of the clause into a negative and affirmative part. Derivation from an underlying comparative is rejected, but it is shown that the ENC has associations to more explicit ways of expressing exclusion. These conclusions receive support from dialectal and other non-standard data. Kokkuvõte. Artiklis näidatakse, et soome keeles võib väljendada välistavat tähendust (nagu ainult) lausekonstruktsiooniga, mida artiklis nimetatakse välistavaks-eitavaks konstruktsiooniks (the Exclusive-Negative Construction, ENC). See sarnaneb prantsuse keele konstruktsiooniga ne...que, ent erineb sellest mitmes aspektis, kus soome ja prantsuse keel üldiseltki erinevad, eriti mis puudutab eituse väljendamise viise kahes keeles. Soome konstruktsioon sisaldab eksplitsiitset eitust, mis seletab seda, miks konstruktsiooni kasutusala on mõnevõrra kitsam kui selle alternatiivil, fookuspartiklil vain/vaan ‘ainult’. Kasutades konstruktsioonigrammatika raamistikku, näidatakse artiklis, et ENC on lausekonstruktsioon, mille eripäraks on kahetine polaarsus: konstruktsioon jaotub vormiliselt eitavaks ja jaatavaks osaks. Väidetakse, et konstruktsioon ei ole tuletatud komparatiivikonstruktsioonist, kuid on seotud eksplitsiitsemalt välistust väljendavate vahenditega. This paper describes a comparison of pedestrian compliance at traffic signals with two types of pedestrian phasing: concurrent, where both pedestrians and vehicular traffic are directed to move in the same directions at the same time, and exclusive, where pedestrians are directed to move during their own dedicated phase while all vehicular traffic is stopped. Exclusive phasing is usually perceived to be safer, especially by senior and disabled advocacy groups, although these safety benefits depend upon pedestrians waiting for the walk signal. This paper investigates whether or not there are differences between pedestrian compliance at signals with exclusive pedestrian phasing and those with concurrent phasing and whether these differences continue to exist when compliance at exclusive phasing signals is evaluated as if they had concurrent phasing. Pedestrian behavior was observed at 42 signalized intersections in central Connecticut with both concurrent and exclusive pedestrian phasing. Binary regression models were estimated to predict pedestrian compliance as a function of the pedestrian phasing type and other intersection characteristics, such as vehicular and pedestrian volume, crossing distance and speed limit. We found that pedestrian compliance is significantly higher at intersections with concurrent pedestrian phasing than at those with exclusive pedestrian phasing, but this difference is not significant when compliance at exclusive phase intersections is evaluated as if it had concurrent phasing. This suggests that pedestrians treat exclusive phase intersections as though they have concurrent phasing, rendering the safety benefits of exclusive pedestrian phasing elusive. Despite recommendations for influenza and COVID-19 vaccines, studies have documented gaps and disparities in vaccination coverage for adults and adolescents. Understanding the proportion and demographics of those unvaccinated against influenza and/or COVID-19 is important for tailoring appropriate messaging and strategies to increase confidence and uptake. Using the 2021 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), we assessed the prevalence of four vaccination patterns (exclusive influenza vaccination, exclusive COVID-19 vaccination, dual influenza and COVID-19 vaccination, and neither vaccination) by sociodemographic and other characteristics among adults and adolescents 12–17 years. Adjusted multivariable regression analyses were conducted to examine factors associated with each of the four vaccination categories among adults and adolescents. In 2021, 42.5% of adults and 28.3% of adolescents received both influenza and COVID-19 vaccines, while approximately a quarter (22.4%) of adults and a third (34.0%) of adolescents did not receive either vaccine. Among adults and adolescents, 6.0% and 11.4% were exclusively vaccinated against influenza and 29.1% and 26.4% were exclusively vaccinated against COVID-19, respectively. Among adults, exclusive COVID-19 or dual vaccination was more likely to be associated with older age, non-Hispanic multi/other race, and having a college degree compared to their respective counterparts. Exclusive influenza or neither vaccination was more likely to be associated with younger age, having a high school diploma or less, living below the poverty level, and having a previous COVID-19 diagnosis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately two-thirds of adolescents and three-fourths of adults received exclusive influenza or COVID-19 vaccines or both vaccines in 2021. Vaccination patterns differed by sociodemographic and other characteristics. Promoting confidence in vaccines and reducing barriers to access is needed to protect individuals and families from severe health consequences of vaccine-preventable diseases. Being up-to-date with all recommended vaccinations can prevent a future resurgence of hospitalizations and cases. 42.5% of adults and 28.3% of adolescents received both influenza and COVID-19 vaccines in 2021, while approximately a quarter (22.4%) of adults and a third (34.0%) of adolescents did not receive either vaccine; 6.0% of adults and 11.4% of adolescents were exclusively vaccinated against influenza and 29.1% of adults and 26.4% of adolescents were exclusively vaccinated against COVID-19. To build the idea of Islamic inclusiveness, Nurcholish Madjid made Ibn Taymiyah a reference. The definition of “Islam” as al-inqiyad, al-istislam, and al-ikhlash by Ibn Taymiyah became the foundation for Madjid to propagate the ideology of religious unity of the prophets, in the form of monotheism or submission only to Allah. But on the other hand there are many scholars who viewed the contrary, that Ibn Taymiyah was not an inclusive thinker. Instead he was the source of inspiration for the contemporary Islamic radicalism. This paper attempts to probe the religious ideas of Ibn Taymiyah. The focus of this paper is on the thought of Ibn Taymiyah on Islam and other religions, especially Judaism and Christianity. Research on some of his works showed that it is not quite right to conclude that Ibn Taymiyah was an inclusive thinker. There are, in fact, some of his ideas that seem to be inclusive as Madjid referred to. However, in-depth study on his thought showed that he had exclusive views on Islam. In addition to interpreting Islam linguistically, Ibn Taymiyah also considered that Islam brought by Prophet Muhammad is the true way of salvation. Meanwhile Judaism and Christianity have experienced deviations and therefore cannot guarantee the salvation of their adherents. [Dalam upaya mengkonstruk pemikiran Islam inklusifnya, Nurcholish Madjib merujuk pemikiran Ibnu Taymiyah sebaga landasan definisi sikap keislaman. Bagi Ibnu Taymiyah, definisi Islam ialah sikap tunduk/patuh (al inqiyad), memberikan keselamatan (al Istislam), dan keluhuran budi (al ikhlas). Corak pendefinisian ini juga dijadikan Nurcholis Madjid untukmempropaganda kesatuan ideology kenabian dalam bentuk kesatuan ketuhanan dan kepatuhan hanya pada Allah. Pada sisi yang lain, pandangan Nurcholish Madji ini jauh berbeda dengan para cendikiawan muslim yang lain. Posisi Ibnu Taymiyah terkait sikap keislaman dikategorikan sebagai pemikir ekslufisme dan fundamentalisme. Bahkan, tidak jarang dari mereka, mengatakan jika ajaran Ibnu Taymiyah menjadi sumber pemikiran radikal di era sekarang. Oleh karena itu, artikel ini akan mencoba untuk mengeksplorasi ide Ibnu Taymiyah secara holistik, khususnya sikap inklusif-eksklusif terhadap agama lain. Pada kesimpulannya, berdasarkan karya pribadinya, membuat konklusi Ibnu Taymiyah sebagai pemikir Islam-Inklusif tidaklah, sepenuhnya benar. Ada banyak fakta sikap Ibnu Taymiyah yang berbeda dari pemikiran inklusif. Sebab, kalau diteliti secara mendalam, pemaknaan linguistic terhadap kata Islam sendiri bagi Ibnu Taymiyah adalah kepasrahan dan penyelematan yang datang dari Nabi Muhammad SAW. In this paper, a general mechanism of zymogen activation and the simultaneous action of two different, mutually exclusive, two-step inhibitors acting on both the activating and the activated enzymes is proposed and kinetically analyzed. This generalization offers the advantage of being applicable to a high number of real cases, since most mechanisms of zymogen activation involving reversible or irreversible, one or two step, equal or different inhibitors are particular cases of the general model here studied. Analogously, from the equations corresponding to the general model or from any of their particular cases, it is possible to obtain the equations corresponding to cases in which one or more of the reversible steps are in rapid equilibrium. Exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life is recommended as the optimal way to feed infants. This paper reviews the measurement of exclusive breastfeeding in Australian studies over the past 10 years. Only half the studies identified that claimed to measure exclusive breastfeeding used a definition consistent with the World Health Organisation. Three studies used 24-h or 7-day recall indicators that have been shown to produce overestimations of the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding. Measurement of exclusive breastfeeding with a valid and consistent definition is vital for monitoring rates and trends, for comparison between different studies and countries and to reach conclusions on various health benefits. Any future measurement of exclusive breastfeeding in Australia should use the World Health Organisation definition and the 24 h recall study design should not be used for this purpose.
