Accessible summary: What is known on the subject?: The conceptual components of mental health recovery have been proposed, however, the barriers to their sustainability within the context of internal and external stressors require further exploration.Within their emerging adult role, young people will experience the personal challenges that will directly impact their understanding of their recovery, which will be different from other age groups. What the paper adds to existing knowledge?: Findings revealed recovery is understood as an uncharted, timely and personal process of engaging and transcending pain. Introduction: Within their emerging adult role, young people will embark on employment, form intimate relationships and live independently. This indicates that how recovery is experienced and actualized in young adulthood may be different from other age groups. Aim/Question: To explore young adult service user's perspectives of mental health recovery in Northern Ireland. Method: Semi‐structured individual qualitative interviews were analysed using a Gadamerian‐based hermeneutic method and interpreted using a novel theoretical framework. The sample comprised 25 participants with an average age of 28 years. Findings: Five key themes evolved: Services: A Losing Battle Straight Away; From your Foundations to a Step in the Dark; Let Go of the Pain not the Experience; Surviving Out of the Ashes Recovery; and Needs to be More than a Word. Discussion: The main findings were that recovery involved the reclaiming of their active and purposeful life force. It is suggested that young adults have developed an explanatory model of "use that stuff you wanna bury" to transform an illness narrative to a wellness strategy. Implications for Practice: This research has implications for mental health nursing so the process of mental health recovery is not presented as a clinical pathway, but a personalized strategy of individual wellness. Sociological analysis of Irish sexuality has been notable for its absence. This paper examines the contribution which Foucault's theory, of sexuality as a discourse of truth and apparatus of power makes toward elucidating key issues in the history and contemporary field of Irish sexuality. Although Foucault provides good insights into the constitution of a hermeneutics of the self within different ethical regimes, his analysis of sexuality is inadequate when it comes to explaining how sexuality operates in everyday life and the individual struggle to attain power and position in social life. In this respect, the paper turns to the work of Bourdieu and examines the field of Irish sexuality, in relation to his concepts of habitus, practice and capital. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we examine teachers' experiences of collaborative inquiry in an Irish primary school context. Initiated by a teacher-researcher, four educators engaged in a collaborative approach to teaching gymnastics in their school, contributing to curriculum writing and generative practice throughout the pedagogical process. The experiences of the teachers were storied via reflective response journals and audiorecorded conversations. A merger of narrative inquiry and and hermeneutics is used in analysis. The findings reveal that the collaborative engagement with a curricular concern leads to the emergence of a community of learning and creates a dynamic setting for the deepening of diverse consenting and dissenting pedagogical understandings to occur. Participants underscore the absence of continuous professional development with regard to the gymnastics strand of the physical education curriculum and identify ways the engagement in a community of inquiry might inspire transformation of pedagogical practices. In this inquiry, we raise questions about whether historical and current continuing professional development practices whereby "experts" are called upon to transmit knowledge to practicing educators within limited time frames are affecting meaningful change. We further argue that creating spaces for collaborative learning communities to transpire within a school context might provide an authentic setting for educators to learn and interrogate the curricular and pedagogical challenges faced in physical education. This paper discusses 12 coping strategies - tools that Sikh immigrants and their descendants have appropriated to make sense of and engage with their new surroundings in Ireland: (1) keeping tradition alive; (2) improvisation; (3) erasing markers of difference; (4) camouflage; (5) being smart, being tough; (6) being cool; (7) downplaying racism; (8) living with India; (9) crossing over, sharing experience; (10) becoming Asian; (11) becoming black; and (12) pluralist theology. These categories emerged through an engagement with Chicago School thinking from the first half of the twentieth century on modes by which immigrant communities adapt to their new surroundings; through a dialogical, hermeneutic process of reading and reflecting on the interview material; and through reflections on our positions as immigrant, racialised subjects. The mode of presentation is polyvocal - a patchwork quilt of stories and images - and the 'Sikh identity' that emerges in the text is plural. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
