It is important to understand genetics within the context of health. This paper assesses (a) genetic knowledge among Mexican-born farmworker and non-farmworker adults; (b) their interpersonal and device sources of genetic knowledge; and (c) the association between their genetic knowledge and the sources of this genetic knowledge. Interviews were conducted with Mexican-born farmworkers (100) and non-farmworkers (100) in North Carolina. Participants answered 15 questions to assess genetic knowledge, and sources from which they had seen or heard about genes and genetics. Results show limited knowledge of genetics, with farmworkers and non-farmworkers providing a similar level of correct responses (6.6 versus 7.3), but with farmworkers providing more incorrect responses (4.0 versus 2.7). Important sources of genetic information for farmworkers were promotoras (47%), compared to teachers (49%) for non-farmworkers. This study demonstrates a need for increased dissemination of genetic information to Mexican-origin farmworkers and non-farmworkers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper used a new source of information (ESRU-EMOVI NL) to estimate, for the first time, the lower limit of unequal opportunities in a federal state in Mexico. Using the former criterion concerning unequal opportunities, a lower threshold indicated 35% inequality in economic resources in the state. As at the national level, the main contributors to unequal opportunities in the state are unequal economic resources by origin and parental education. However, in contrast to what has been observed, for the country as a whole, inequalities associated with people's skin tone account for 5% of observed unequal opportunities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study is based on Gerardo Ruiz's doctoral thesis on the information seeking patterns of psychiatrists in Mexico City, which he completed in January 2018 from the Autonomous National University of Mexico. The paper presents the key findings from a survey and interview involving 92 psychiatrists to identify the differing roles and information behaviours of three types of mental health practitioners. Similarities and divergences were found in their behavioural patterns in obtaining information to make clinical decisions, depending on purpose for the sought information which aligned to the role of the psychiatrist and on the information contexts of institutions in which they work. The implications for practice highlighted in this study focus on the influencing factors of time and availability of sources in enabling the mental health specialist to search, disseminate and evaluate information to be used in clinical practice, as well as to have in place broader communication with colleagues in order to enrich clinical care for better diagnosis and treatment.F.J. Purpose - The purpose of the paper is to discuss conditions for an effective application of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the pursuit of sustainability for cities. Design/methodology/approach - After a brief overview of the possible contribution of ICT, the main findings of the CIBER study of the Google generation are summarised. The limitations and main focus on advanced countries in the present understanding of internet use are stressed. The current state of internet use in Mexico is summarised. Findings - The need for proactive global policies aimed at reducing imbalances between regions and income groups on the one hand and developing and supporting an information culture on the other hand is emphasised. This paper will first provide a synopsis of the technological developments to date from the perspective of the technical processes of the Library System of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Secondly, this paper will explain how the General Directorate for Libraries (DGB) coordinates the development and enrichment of holdings of that Library System. Emphasis will be placed on the Technical Processes Department as being responsible for organizing and processing all the bibliographic material by using a variety of online tools as well as traditional material as the Anglo American Cataloging Rules 2nd ed. and also including standardization developments. Then, the paper will briefly describe the databases that the General Directorate for Libraries has developed: LIBRUNAM, SERIUNAM, MAPAMEX, TESIUNAM, EUTERPE, CLASE, PERIODICA, and ELECTRONIC JOURNALS. Research in Mexico has found a lack of comprehensive sexual health education in school settings, as well as a lack of youth perspectives on sexual health and dating. Little is known about the questions Mexican youth have about dating and sexuality, despite research finding that they desire this information and perceive few resources available to them. This collaborative study between a U.S. university and a multi-disciplinary team of middle-school psychologists in Central Mexico aimed to understand youth's questions on sexual health and dating. This study was a follow-up to focus group conversations, where youth voiced that they wanted more information about these topics. Specifically, school psychologists solicited anonymous questions about sexual health and dating relationships using a 'question box' (n = 60 written questions). This method offered a forum by which students could ask about sensitive topics individually. We analyzed questions using descriptive thematic analysis. A majority of the questions pertained to healthy relationships, followed by questions on violence and trauma in relationships, sexual education, and attraction and sexual orientation. The results of this study reflect a need to provide youth and their families accurate and developmentally appropriate information on sexual health and dating during early adolescence. Here, we discuss the process of forming a binational partnership, primary themes with regard to the questions asked, and the impact of findings from the perspectives of our Mexican collaborators. Objective: We sought to identify trends and themes in how academic health sciences libraries in the United States, Canada, and Mexico have supported engagement and outreach with Native Americans, Alaska Natives, First Nations, and Indigenous peoples, in or from those same countries. We also sought to learn and share effective practices for libraries engaging with these communities. Methods: We conducted a scoping review utilizing Arksey and O'Malley's framework for scoping reviews and followed principles from JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis. We searched seven bibliographic databases, E-LIS (Eprints in Library and Information Science repository), and multiple sources of grey literature. Results were screened using Covidence and Google Sheets. We reported our review according to the PRISMA and PRISMA-S guidelines. We determined types of interventions used by academic health sciences libraries in engagement with our included populations, the level of public participation reached by these interventions, what partnerships were established, and what practices emerged. Results: Database searching returned 2,020 unique results. Additional searching resulted in 211 further unique results. Full text screening of relevant articles found 65 reports meeting criteria for inclusion. Data extraction was conducted on these programs to identify partners, intervention type, and evaluation method. The programs were categorized using the IAP2 Spectrum of Public Participation. Conclusion: Our scoping review found that many programs were health information trainings and did not move beyond informing the public with little further involvement. Summary: Background: Digital food marketing is increasing and has an impact on children's behaviour. Limited research has been performed in Latin America. Objectives: To determine the extent and nature of Mexican children's and adolescents' exposure to digital food and beverage marketing during recreational internet use. Methods: A crowdsourcing strategy was used to recruit 347 participants during the COVID‐19 lockdown. Participants completed a survey and recorded 45 minutes of their device's screen time using screen‐capture software. Food marketing was identified and nutrition information for each marketed product was collected. Healthfulness of products was determined using the Pan‐American Health Organization and the Mexican Nutrient Profile Model (NPM). A content analysis was undertaken to assess marketing techniques. Results: Overall, 69.5% of children and adolescents were exposed to digital food marketing. Most frequently marketed foods were ready‐made foods. Children and adolescents would typically see a median of 2.7 food marketing exposures per hour, 8 daily exposures during a weekday and 6.7 during a weekend day. We estimated 47.3 food marketing exposures per week (2461 per year). The most used marketing technique was brand characters. Marketing was appealing to children and adolescents yet most of the products were not permitted for marketing to children according to the NPMs (>90%). Conclusions: Mexican children and adolescents were exposed to unhealthy digital food marketing. The Government should enforce evidence‐based mandatory regulations on digital media. Little is known about the role of WhatsApp in spreading misinformation during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico. The aim of this study is to analyze the message content, format, authorship, time trends and social media distribution channels of misinformation in WhatsApp messages in Mexico. From March 18 to June 30, 2020 the authors collected all WhatsApp messages received via their personal contacts and their social networks that contained information about COVID-19. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the scientifically inaccurate messages and the relationship between variables, respectively. Google image and video searches were carried out to identify sharing on other social media. Out of a total of 106 messages, the most frequently mentioned COVID-19 related message topics were prevention (20.0%), conspiracy (18.5%), therapy (15.4%) and origin of the virus (10.3%), changing throughout the pandemic according to users' concerns. Half of all WhatsApp messages were either images or videos. WhatsApp images were also shared on Facebook (80%) and YouTube (~50%). Our findings indicate that the design of information and health promotion campaigns requires to be proactive in adapting to the changes in message content and format of misinformation shared through encrypted social media. Scientific research often involves collaboration among researchers, and coauthorship networks are a common means of exploring these collaborations. However, traditional coauthorship networks represent coauthorship relations using simple links, i.e., pairwise interactions, which fail to capture the strength of scientific collaborations in either small or large groups. In this study, we propose a novel methodology to address this issue, which involves using a multilayer network model that captures the strength of coauthorship relations and employs a convergence index to identify the collaboration order in which these properties converge. We apply this methodology to investigate the collaborative behavior of researchers in the context of the three main public universities in Mexico over the last decade, using Scopus data as the primary source of information. Our study reveals that community structure emerges in low-order collaborations, and higher-order collaborations lead to increased clustering and centrality measures. Our methodology provides a comprehensive and insightful way of analyzing scientific collaborations and sheds light on the dynamics of scientific collaboration, providing a valuable tool for future studies. At a time of crisis in news media organizations, with changes in the world of work occurring in different regions, a significant number of newsrooms have been affected by the mass firing of journalists. Multiple layoffs can be understood as part of a broader process of organizational change that is linked to deterioration in the working conditions of media workers and a transformation of journalistic modes of production. To understand the processes of organizational change in news organizations with multiple layoffs, this critical case study of news organizations in a western Mexican city relied on the analysis of data from multiple sources of information. It was found that the processes deriving in multiple layoffs do not develop homogeneously, but take shape according to context-specific characteristics such as, in the Mexican case, the institutional fragility of journalism and the uneven protection of rights across the territory. The collected data set illustrates how the processes of downsizing, convergence and precarization "commonly studied separately" may occur simultaneously and in an integrated fashion. Mexican ornithology has seen a curious trajectory, beginning with remarkably well documented indigenous knowledge, progressing to colonial expeditions and intensive nineteenth-century exploration. The baton passed to collectors and scientists from the United States of America around the beginning of the twentieth century, and most recently to Mexican scientists. The documentation of Mexican bird diversity grew in each of these phases, but has now become a Mexican enterprise, thanks to the combined availability of information (both from within the country and that 'repatriated' from around the world) and funding (provided in largest part by the Mexican government). This evolutionary process of a science community is perhaps general and global, but with different phases emphasized in different countries, and at diverse points in the process. Introduction Health warning labels (HWLs) on tobacco packaging can be used to provide smoking cessation information, but the impact of this information is not well understood. Methods Online consumer panels of adult smokers from Canada, Australia and Mexico were surveyed in September 2012, January 2013 and May 2013; replenishment was used to maintain sample sizes of 1000 participants in each country at each wave. Country-stratified logistic Generalised Estimating Equation (GEE) models were estimated to assess correlates of citing HWLs as a source of information on quitlines and cessation websites. GEE models also regressed having called the quitline, and having visited a cessation website, on awareness of these resources because of HWLs. Results At baseline, citing HWLs as a source of information about quitlines was highest in Canada, followed by Australia and Mexico (33%, 19% and 16%, respectively). Significant increases over time were only evident in Australia and Mexico. In all countries, citing HWLs as a source of quitline information was significantly associated with self-report of having called a quitline. At baseline, citing HWLs as a source of information about cessation websites was higher in Canada than in Australia (14% and 6%, respectively; Mexico was excluded because HWLs do not include website information), but no significant changes over time were found for either country. Citing HWLs as a source of information about cessation websites was significantly associated with having visited a website in both Canada and Australia. In this paper we analize the role of the university library as a provider of quality information services that collaborate with the basic functions of the University and its commitment with society: teaching well prepared professionals in vast areas of knowledge who possess the capacity of acquiring all the new information that is produced in their field and in their working environment. Skills and abilities in the search and retrieval of information is a must in the formation of our students, if we want them to be immersed, not only in the informational context and in the new methodologies of information, but also in the steady process of scientific research that a good university education implies, process that any country needs for getting a sustainable development. Our proposal of informational literacy includes required application forms, interviews with professors and instructors of classroom courses, an interactive manual for the development of competence in the use of digital resources the university offers, and one on line course presenting the manual. Since the 60's, a worldwide impressive growth in schemes and technologies addressed to facilitate the user data organization, processing, access and exchange took place. Nowadays, this situation still prevails in an epoch where technology is undergoing extraordinary advancements allowing people from different countries to exchange data and information apparently without problem, becoming an exceptional experience. Such progresses crystallized in the so called Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and recently in the Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI). Within the turmoil of this growth, we have lost sight of the importance that data has within this context. We just have to remember the known maxim in data bases "garbage in, garbage out", implying therefore that any technological strategy chosen has to be used along with homogeneous and good quality data. This paper introduces the actions carried out in Mexico regarding to the conceptual and operative aspects, beginning with a classification and organization of the spatial data produced in order to be able to build the Spatial Data Infrastructure of Mexico (IDEMex), and presents the Conceptual Model of the IDEMex and how the model moves toward its operative achievement, where the spatial data is the mainstay of the infrastructure. English Abstract: The objective of this article is to analyze the perceptions of those who live in a context of marginalization and urban poverty as to their awareness of any risks to health and well-being associated with climate change. The methodological framework for this study was qualitative and ethnographic. The main sources of information were semi-structured interviews with residents of El Colli, located in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico who are parents. We conclude that there are climate change-induced environmental regional particularities that result in unequal conditions of vulnerability and a greater occurrence of risk events for populations in marginalized and poor areas. Thus, we argue that the theoretical and methodological references that consider local knowledge are key to enabling adaptation measures aimed at social welfare. Spanish Abstract: El objetivo de este artículo es analizar la percepción sobre riesgos a la salud y el bienestar asociados al cambio climático, a partir de las experiencias cotidianas de vivir en un contexto de marginación y pobreza urbana. La perspectiva metodológica fue de carácter cualitativo y de cohorte etnográfi co, cuya principal fuente de información fueron entrevistas semiestructuradas a los padres y madres de familia, habitantes de El Colli, ubicado en Zapopan, Jalisco, México. Labor figures for Mexico's municipalities were estimated during 2018's first quarter by using Small Area Estimation (SAE) techniques with the incorporation of a spatial component – given there is no recent information source with such a level of geographic disaggregation. To achieve this, combined information from different sources was used to build statistical models in which the Economically Active Population, the Employed Population and the Informal Employed Population were taken as variables object of estimation – this information was taken from the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE for its acronym in Spanish). Auxiliary variables were selected from population censuses, administrative records, and population projections. The results were contrasted with those calculated by applying the percentage structures of 2010 Population and Housing Census to the figures provided by ENOE at a federal entity level, and with the data in this survey (obtained by direct estimation for those municipalities which had a sufficient sample with acceptable coefficients of variation). It is observed that the results obtained by Small Area Estimation are plausible and register coefficients of variation below 10 percent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main aim was to evaluate the measurement properties of the Family Needs Questionnaire-Revised (FNQ-R) in family members of individuals living with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). A total of 309 family members of individuals with severe TBI from Colombia, Denmark, Mexico, Norway and Spain participated. Rasch analysis of the FNQ-R and its 6 subscales was conducted. The Rasch analysis indicated a lack of fit of the 37-item FNQ-R to one single underlying construct of needs, and less than half of the items were invariant across the countries. Misfit of single items was revealed in the Need for Health Information, Need for Emotional Support, Need for Instrumental Support, Need for Professional Support and Need for Community Support Network subscales. Fit to the Rasch model was obtained after removal of misfitting items. The Involvement in Care subscale had too few items to be adequately assessed by the Rasch approach. The FNQ-R is a well-targeted instrument for assessing the unmet needs of caregivers regarding the need for health information, emotional support, professional support and a community support network after some scoring adjustment and the removal of misfitting items. Plastid genomes (plastomes) represent rich sources of information for phylogenomics, from higher-level studies to below the species level. The genus Rhus (sumac) has received a significant amount of study from phylogenetic and biogeographic perspectives, but genomic studies in this genus are lacking. Rhus integrifolia and R. ovata are two shrubby species of high ecological importance in the southwestern USA and Mexico, where they occupy coastal scrub and chaparral habitats. They hybridize frequently, representing a fascinating system in which to investigate the opposing effects of hybridization and divergent selection, yet are poorly characterized from a genomic perspective. In this study, complete plastid genomes were sequenced for one accession of R. integrifolia and one each of R. ovata from California and Arizona. Sequence variation among these three accessions was characterized, and PCR primers potentially useful in phylogeographic studies were designed. Phylogenomic analyses were conducted based on a robustly supported phylogenetic framework based on 52 complete plastomes across the order Sapindales. Repeat content, rather than the size of the inverted repeat, had a stronger relative association with total plastome length across Sapindales when analyzed with phylogenetic least squares regression. Variation at the inverted repeat boundary within Rhus was striking, resulting in major shifts and independent gene losses. Specifically, rps19 was lost independently in the R. integrifolia-ovata complex and in R. chinensis, with a further loss of rps22 and a major contraction of the inverted repeat in two accessions of the latter. Rhus represents a promising novel system to study plastome structural variation of photosynthetic angiosperms at and below the species level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Communication-based interventions have been linked to improved health and social outcomes among underserved populations. Migrant women in sex work face serious health and social inequities, including risks of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and violence. Given gaps in evidence about health communication among migrant sex workers and the potential for communication-based interventions to promote health and safety, this qualitative study investigates experiences with accessing and sharing information regarding HIV/STI prevention, sexual and reproductive health, and physical safety among migrant sex workers at the Mexico-Guatemala border. Findings suggest that participatory peer-based, workplace, and m-health communication interventions could facilitate access to HIV/STI prevention, and to sexual and reproductive health/safety resources for migrant women involved in sex work, while strengthening peer support networks and social cohesion. To have long-lasting results, such interventions must be complemented by broader structural changes, including sex work and migration law reforms, increased community mobilization, and improved working conditions. How do social networks moderate the way political information influences electoral accountability? We propose a simple model in which incumbent malfeasance revelations can facilitate coordination around less malfeasant challenger parties in highly connected voter networks, even when voters update favorably about incumbent party malfeasance. We provide evidence from Mexico of this mechanism by leveraging a field experiment in a context where the provision of incumbent malfeasance information increased support for incumbent parties, despite voters continuing to believe that challengers were less malfeasant than incumbents. Combining this experiment with detailed family network data, we show that—consistent with the model—the increase in incumbent party vote share due to information provision was counteracted by coordination around less malfeasant challengers in precincts with greater network connectedness. Individual-level data further demonstrate that networks facilitated explicit and tacit coordination among voters. Maternal Zika virus infection (ZIKV) has serious health consequences for unborn offspring. Knowledge about prevention is critical to reducing risk, yet what women in the high-risk US-Mexico border region know about protecting themselves and their babies from ZIKV is mostly unknown. This study aimed to assess knowledge of ZIKV among pregnant and inter-conception women and to identify sources of information that might address knowledge gaps. Clients in five federally-funded, border region Healthy Start programs (N = 326) were interviewed in late 2016 about their knowledge of ZIKV prevention methods and whether they believed themselves or their babies to be at risk. Sources of information about ZIKV and demographic characteristics were also measured. Chi square tests identified important associations between variables; adjusted odds ratios (AOR) and 95% confidence intervals for knowledge and beliefs were calculated. Among the 305 women aware of ZIKV, 69.5% could name two ways to prevent infection. Only 16.1% of women named using condoms or abstaining from sex as a prevention method. While 75.3% heard about ZIKV first from TV/radio, just 9.5% found the information helpful. Women who received helpful information from health care providers had greater odds of knowing two prevention methods (AOR = 2.0; 1.1-3.7), when to test for ZIKV (AOR = 5.2; 2.1-13.2), and how long to delay pregnancy after infection in a male partner (AOR = 1.9; 1.1-3.2). Those who said web-based and social media sources were helpful had greater odds of knowing when to test for ZIKV (AOR = 2.8; 1.3-6.3). With the fast growing number of Mexican immigrants in the United States, more attention is needed to understand the relationship between acculturation and language preference in health information seeking. Latent class analysis provides one useful approach to understanding the diversity in sample of Mexican immigrants (N = 238). Based on 13 linguistic, psychological and behavioral indicators for acculturation, four discrete subgroups were characterized: (1) Less acculturated, (2) Moderately acculturated, (3) Highly acculturated, (4) Selectively bicultural. A Chi-square test revealed that three sub-groups were significantly different in language preference when seeking health information. Less acculturated and moderately acculturated groups sought health information in Spanish, whereas the highly acculturated group preferred English for health information. Purpose: This study fills a gap regarding the perspectives of Mexican American female adolescents on dating relationships and dating violence (DV). Methods: This was a qualitative descriptive study. Focus groups included 20 Mexican American young women, primarily first and second generation, mean age 14.5 years ( SD= 2.5). Data were analyzed with categorical analysis. Findings: Participants described key components of DV and identified cultural aspects that may serve to promote healthy dating relationships. Conclusions: Family-based interventions to promote exploration of gender roles and parent-child communication may foster biculturalism as well as promote healthy dating relationships and prevent violence within this cultural group. The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of transnational Latina mothers who immigrated to the United States without legal documentation or their children. The study used a qualitative approach to collect data from eight transnational Latina mothers from South Florida during the summer of 2009. Data were collected using open-ended questions in one-on-one, in-depth interviews that lasted 1 to 2 hr. A hermeneutic phenomenological analysis of the data yielded seven essential themes from the participants' stories: living in extreme poverty, having hope, choosing to walk away from poverty, suffering through the trip to and across the border, mothering from afar, valuing family, and changing personally. The results indicate that transnational Latina mothers find meaning in mothering from afar through embodied sacrifice, suffering, hoping for a better life for their children, and family reunification. These results have implications for healthcare providers, social workers, policy makers, and educators whose professional responsibility is to advocate for, and to enhance the health and social well-being of, transnational mothers. Although this study focused on transnational Latina mothers in the United States, transnational motherhood is a worldwide phenomenon. Simple Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the consistency of different methodologies and sources of information used to estimate inbreeding coefficients in small populations by analyzing the correlation between them in the Holstein population of Mexico and to choose the best option in order to aid breeding programs to improve the productive traits of Holstein cattle in small-specialized populations. This study aimed to identify inbreeding coefficient (F) estimators useful for improvement programs in a small Holstein population through the evaluation of different methodologies in the Mexican Holstein population. F was estimated as follows: (a) from pedigree information (Fped); (b) through runs of homozygosity (Froh); (c) from the number of observed and expected homozygotic SNP in the individuals (Fgeno); (d) through the genomic relationship matrix (Fmg). The study included information from 4277 animals with pedigree records and 100,806 SNP. The average and standard deviation values of F were 3.11 ± 2.30 for Fped, −0.02 ± 3.55 for Fgeno, 2.77 ± 0.71 for Froh and 3.03 ± 3.05 for Fmg. The correlations between coefficients varied from 0.30 between Fped and Froh, to 0.96 between Fgeno and Fmg. Differences in the level of inbreeding among the parent's country of origin were found regardless of the method used. The correlations among genomic inbreeding coefficients were high; however, they were low with Fped, so further research on this topic is required. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Different sources of information about biodiversity may lead to unrealistic or biased estimation of its components, with different patterns according to the scale of analysis. In this study, we analyse patterns of species richness at the local (average alpha) and regional (gamma) scales, and the relationship between them (Whittaker's beta), in central Mexico, using as a source of data for the species’ distributions: (1) museum specimen occurrence data for birds, and (2) distribution maps based on ecological niche models developed and refined by experts. We performed analyses at five spatial resolutions (1/32°−1/2°). Scale changes (grain and extent) affected significantly the estimates of average alpha, gamma, and beta. Use of raw occurrence data vs. distribution maps yielded contrasting results, with raw data underestimating alpha and overestimating beta, as functions of area. As regards species–area relationships, our results suggest a natural decomposition of factors into an area-invariant component (related to alpha), and an area dependent factor (related to beta). Most of our results are maintained in a null model that randomizes occurrences without changing observed range-size distributions. From this result we argue that average alpha and Whittaker's beta capture little information about the spatial covariation of species distribution patterns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We analyze government document custodians' attitudes and behaviors in order to assess the prospects of a new access to information law establishing a citizen's right-to-know in Mexico. The Mexican law is considered one of the best in the hemisphere in terms of broad access and workable enforcement provisions. However, no extra resources were allotted to government agencies for compliance with the law; the country's traditional bureaucratic incentive structures support closure rather than access; and bureaucrats' views on the uses of government information prior to democratization suggest an instrumental approach guided organizational incentives rather than generalized support for either secrecy or access as a principle. The effects of computerization in Mexico are receiving growing attention in the U.S. This study investigates user information satisfaction among employees of organizations in northern Mexico. Results indicate that Mexican computer users have positive attitudes toward and are generally satisfied with their employers' information systems. On a subfactor assessment level, Mexican computer users are especially satisfied with their IT staff and services and least satisfied with the level of user training they receive. The article presents a discussion on the impact of the Internet and electronic resources on library and information science education in Mexico. Electronic resources and the Internet environment have had a major impact on activities and services in today's libraries. Additionally, librarians around the world are discussing new topics related to electronic resources and the Internet. Some of the topics of discussion at professional library and related conferences are: organization of electronic resources through metadata, digital libraries functions and services, and the librarian's role in this new electronic atmosphere. Although Library and Information Science (LIS) has many different characteristics in diverse settings, there are also common concerns extending across borders. Like librarians worldwide, Mexican librarians are very concerned about the challenges that electronic resources, the Internet, and the new ways to generate and to deliver information bring to libraries. There is also a great interest among Mexican librarians in approaching and discussing topics like metadata, digital libraries, networks, electronic resources, and electronic services. These changes, in turn, impact Mexican LIS schools and their curricula are being revised to reach these challenges.
