Given this indissoluble jumble of definitions in Jung - which continues to this day in analytical psychology - I suggested in the Report that Jung's theory of archetypes should not be considered as a coherent theory, but as at least four different theories, which are confounded with each other in Jung's works. This leads me to suspect that Goodwyn equates archetype with instinct, which, as I have shown above, is a partial aspect of Jung's archetype theory but which is incompatible with other aspects of the same theory. In addition, it is still completely unclear which elements a catalogue of archetypes would contain - according to Jung's own statement, the number of archetypes is even unlimited (Jung [17], para. Cavalli wrote of the need to create a "maternal matrix" (what Botella and Botella [[1]] call figurability) in which the patient's early trauma can be recovered and the split-off part can be integrated (p. 106). Writing as one engaged in the enterprise, the author discusses critically the possibilities and limitations of psychoanalytic and post-Jungian theorizing in connection with consultancy work in the field of organizations and corporations. Slippage between the individual and more collective perspectives is inevitable and, though intellectually inadequate, may turn out to be useful. Often in such work, the paucity of many approaches to leadership available to consultants becomes apparent. This commentary reflects a fundamental agreement with Christopher Bonovitz' main thesis-fantasy, indeed, cannot be seen as a product of an isolated mind and is intrinsic to the development of both optimal internal and interpersonal richness. The theme of mutual sexual fantasy between analyst and patient in particular is highlighted for discussion. It is argued that, contrary to the more discussed dangers of erotic countertransference feelings, the absence of analysts' reciprocal sexual fantasy has the potential to deaden the analytic relationship and result in a less than satisfactory analytic experience. We have therefore chosen the title of Volume 10 of Jung's Collected Works, "Civilization in Transition", as the theme of our conference as it captures something of the feeling of the times in which we find ourselves. 2020, 202 pages Pascal Sauvayre and David Brauchers' edited collection of essays on unconscious processes, based on papers given at a recent William Alanson White symposium, is a truly invaluable cross-disciplinary contribution, offering the psychoanalytic literature a contemporary slant on Freud's most important discovery: the unconscious. In the book's first paper, Warren Wilner, influenced by Ben Wolstein's notion of the paradox of unconscious experience (if something is unconscious, how can it be experienced?), provides fresh perspectives on what the nature and structure of unconscious experience might be through clinical, philosophical, linguistic and literary points of reference. This is no small task (particularly as it relates to discussions of the unconscious) in that Lacan and Sullivan differ in their interpretations of the unconscious, and in their uses of Freud. The chaos caused by the global climate crisis is in the news in many forms and has also entered the consulting room: clients are increasingly naming their fear, despair, rage, and experience of impotence in the face of the unknown. This paper builds on the work of G. Albrecht and J. Bernstein, to investigate how we can face our feelings about climate crisis and live through this time without resorting to unhelpful defenses that block our ability to be present, engaged and effective. It examines the unconscious beliefs, habitual patterns, and defenses of the Western ego, which it presents as the mindset of Economism and the Capitalocene, and investigates its identification with the hero archetype. It pays homage to indigenous analyses of the issue in the work of J. Forbes and I Merculieff, and draws on the work of eco-ethical thinkers such as K. D. Moore, J. Butler, and A. L. In the last administration, the IAAP initiated a new series of conferences under the category of "Joint Conferences IAAP/University". Professor Grazina Gudaite was the first to submit a proposal for a joint conference of the IAAP with the University of Vilnius. Chris Brogan's engaging paper makes a compelling case in acknowledging Winnicott's unique contribution to psychoanalysis. Perhaps by learning through their own experiences as children of depressed mothers, both Winnicott and Jung instinctively understood the need to play as being an integral part of re-finding creativity and contact with, in Winnicott's terminology, the illusive True Self, and in Jung's terminology, the self through Individuation. This large-scale quantitative review used publication data to track the presence of positive education terms over a 100+ year period across 35 psychology journals and education journals utilizing two analytical methods. First, computer-generated linguistic word count analysis identified that positive education terms have shown small but steady growth in psychology and education research for more than a century. From 1904 to 2016, positive education terms have risen consistently, with increases in 1952, 1982, 2010, and 2014 to over 4, 5, 6, and 7 percent, respectively. Four new terms were present in the top 20 most prevalent terms following the official launch of positive education in 2009: well-being, satisfaction, motivat*, and engag* (note: terms ending with an asterisk are word stems). Three terms also increased in rank order prevalence from 2009 onwards: emotion*; health; and goal*. The second analytical method involved in-depth human coding of a subset of positive education abstracts (n =2,805) by a team of five researchers1 to identify trends pertaining to how positive education research has been conducted in terms of paradigms, designs, methods, tools, samples, and settings from 1950 to 2016. College students and students in secondary school make up the most common samples, with little research in the early childhood years. Quantitative, cross-sectional studies using self-report surveys have been the most common design and method used over the past six decades, suggesting room for growth in qualitative methods and the need for greater longitudinal and intervention designs. The human coding was also used to classify positive education variables into broader categories of research. Nine categories were identified: positive functioning; well-being; ill-being; strengths; agency; connection and belonging; identity and personality; school climate and outcomes; and demographics. By tracking positive education science over time, the current paper allows researchers to take stock of the field, identify gaps, outline areas of growth, and pursue fruitful topics for future research. This is a two‐part paper: in the first one, a personal story serves as a conceptual prism through which I address the issue of how a queer analyst can be a problem for analytical psychology; in the second, I present some readings and images—mostly from decolonial feminisms—that have been of interest to me lately in my path to queer Jungian psychology, that is, to de‐essentialize and de‐individualize its theory and practice. By borrowing (and altering) the title from Gloria Anzaldúa's (1991/2009a) essay "To(o) queer the writer", this paper explores some themes she has elaborated there on solidarity, theorization and ways of writing and reading from othered points of view. In dialogue with Donna Haraway's (2016) Staying with the Trouble and Ursula K. Le Guin's (1989/2000) The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction, together with the imagery of bags, weaving and string figures game, this paper aims to explore the potential of what I have called "woven onto‐epistemologies". Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to expand upon scholarship exploring the application of Jungian psychological concepts to leadership development. Design/methodology/approach: This is a conceptual paper in which Jungian shadow is explored as a potential bridge between the simplistic conceptualization of good and bad leadership. Findings: The importance of shadow work to leadership development is explored and activities for shadow work are provided. Research limitations/implications: Because this paper is not an empirical study, it does not present research information, propositions or hypotheses. Originality/value: The paper presents a clear and accessible introduction to Jungian psychology and suggests practical exercises for incorporating shadow work into leadership development. Taking as its starting-point the interest in archaeological metaphors evinced by Freud and by Jung, this paper considers the project of analytical psychology under the rubric of the recently discussed term, 'philosophical archaeology'. Noting the shared methodological assumptions and procedures between these two areas, the paper goes on to examine the extent to which Jung's project can legitimately be considered as an archaeological pursuit in respect of two key aspects: its humanism, and its hermeneutics. In this second case, the paper concludes, we can learn much from Jung's recently published Red Book, sections of which may be profitably read through the lens of his seminal paper, 'The Aims of Psychotherapy'. What emerges from this discussion is a clearer appreciation of the role of the archaic in Jung's thought, an insight into the analytic consulting-room (as a place of the archetypal) as a third instance of the site of philosophical archaeology in addition to the archive (as a place of statement or l'énoncé) and the museum (as a place of expression), and a confirmation of Heidegger's assertion that 'the authenticity and greatness of historical knowledge reside in an understanding of the mysterious character of the beginning'. The International Association for Analytical Psychology has awarded its Mercurius Prize for films that embody the spirit of Jungian psychology to the documentary film "Ripples of Physis," produced by Sanae Kawai. The film explores the centuries-old karakami practice of art paper printing in Kyoto, Japan, and the way naturally occurring patterns can capture and express life energy. The film was shown at a conference in Strasbourg, France, and had its first American showing at a private event in San Francisco. The film's director, Ayako Mogi, discusses the process of achieving natural design and the skill of the master artisan, Kenkichi Senda.
