Smart buildings and Fuzzy based control systems used in Buildings Management System (BMS), Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) and Building Automation Systems (BAS) are a point of interests among researcher and stake holders of buildings’ developing sector due to its ability to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore this paper will review, investigates define and evaluates the use of fuzzy logic controllers in smart buildings under subtropical Australia’s subtropical regions. In addition the paper also will define the latest development, design and proposed controlling strategies used in institutional buildings. Furthermore this paper will highlight and discuss the conceptual basis of these technologies including Fuzzy, Neural and Hybrid add-on technologies, its capabilities and its limitation. This paper summarises an evaluation of the application of artificial intelligence to hyperspectral drill-core scans for more effective mineral exploration. The dataset used was based on publicly available core scans and related geochemical analysis from Australia. Prior to unification, a detailed quality assessment of the geochemical data was undertaken. Special focus was paid to gold, silver, copper, iron, uranium, nickel, lead, tin, antimony, arsenic and bismuth contents. The dataset was labelled with defined ore grades related to economic cutoff values. The impact on predictions of different setups is related to the amounts of data used for learning, data design and implementation of the geological domains. Based on 1-metre bins, the results from more than 700 km of drill cores were used and analysed with the potential for geological exploration in different scenarios discussed. The results indicate the enormous potential of the use of hyperspectral scans in combination with artificial intelligence for the development of exploration scenarios and to provide support for exploration geologists and target detection. The application of predictors on scanned drill cores from Australia also indicates mineralised zones that have not been analysed chemically for all metals above economic cutoffs. This result shows the enormous potential of the approach for strategic exploration but also mining operations. Prediction of geochemical concentrations for gold, copper and iron based on a neural network in drill cores is possible. Using mineral abundances from hyperspectral core scans as learning records, and existing elemental geochemical analyses as labels, the predictions are given with an accuracy of better than 80–90%. The trained artificial intelligence system has for the first time enabled direct estimation of metal grades from hyperspectral scans. It also shows potential for applications to analyse airborne hyperspectral data for direct mapping of metal grades. Summary: This paper discusses several modern approaches to regression analysis involving time series data where some of the predictor variables are also indexed by time. We discuss classical statistical approaches as well as methods that have been proposed recently in the machine learning literature. The approaches are compared and contrasted, and it will be seen that there are advantages and disadvantages to most currently available approaches. There is ample room for methodological developments in this area. Load forecasting is a challenging task in power markets that require attention in generating accurate and stable load to deal with planning and management strategies. In past few years, several intelligence-based models have been introduced for precise load forecast. Among them, artificial neural network (ANN) seems more effective and capable to handle the non-linear behavior of load and generates an accurate forecast. However, it suffers from overfitting problem thus reducing the accuracy of load forecasts. To overcome this problem, a hybrid methodology namely ANN-IEAMCGM-R, for short-term load forecast is proposed in this paper. ANN is integrated with an enhanced evolutionary algorithm (IEAMCGM-R) to find optimal network weights. This evolutionary algorithm is composed of improved environmental adaptation method with real parameters (IEAM-R) and our proposed Controlled Gaussian Mutation (CGM) method to bring greater diversity within the population resulting in a higher convergence of solutions. The electric load data from the New England Power Pool (NEPOOL, ISO New England) and Australian Energy Market Operator (New South Wales (NSW), Australia) have been used to illustrate the efficacy of the proposed hybrid methodology. In this paper, a deep learning long-short-term memory (LSTM) method is applied to the forecasting of the critical frequency of the ionosphere F2 layer (foF2). Hourly values of foF2 from 10 ionospheric stations in China and Australia (based on availability) from 2006 to 2019 are used for training and verifying. While 2015 and 2019 are exclusive for verifying the forecasting accuracy. The inputs of the LSTM model are sequential data for the previous values, which include local time (LT), day number, solar zenith angle, the sunspot number (SSN), the daily F10.7 solar flux, geomagnetic the Ap and Kp indices, geographic coordinates, neutral winds, and the observed value of foF2 at the previous moment. To evaluate the forecasting ability of the deep learning LSTM model, two different neural network forecasting models: a back-propagation neural network (BPNN) and a genetic algorithm optimized backpropagation neural network (GABP) were established for comparative analysis. The foF2 parameters were forecasted under geomagnetic quiet and geomagnetic disturbed conditions during solar activity maximum (2015) and minimum (2019), respectively. The forecasting results of these models are compared with those of the international reference ionosphere model (IRI2016) and the measurements. The diurnal and seasonal variations of foF2 for the 4 models were compared and analyzed from 8 selected verification stations. The forecasting results reveal that the deep learning LSTM model presents the optimal performance of all models in forecasting the time series of foF2, while the IRI2016 model has the poorest forecasting performance, and the BPNN model and GABP model are between two of them. Healthcare buildings often have high energy use intensity, which is potentially influenced by a few factors, such as occupancy and climate. A suite of data analysis methods, including principal component analysis and regressions, is applied to analyse monthly electricity data of a modern major hospital in subtropical Australia. The analysis shows that occupancy is not highly correlated with the hospital's electricity use, nor is it important for building energy modelling. However, outdoor environment temperature is highly correlated with the hospital's electricity use. Then, the hospital's electricity uses in 2030 to 2090 scenarios are forecast with future climate files. The impacts are analysed in terms of bill increases and renewable capacity needed to offset the increased electricity use. This study has established a process to predict future hospital energy use using data-driven energy modelling. This succinct article provides vital evidence to support the healthcare sector to continuously improve energy efficiency for health buildings, which is a major asset to adapt to the changing climate. Measuring the predictability and complexity of 2D data (image) series using entropy is an essential tool for evaluation of systems' irregularity and complexity in remote sensing and geophysical mapping. However, the existing methods have some drawbacks related to their strong dependence on method parameters and image rotation. To overcome these difficulties, this study proposes a new method for estimating two-dimensional neural network entropy (NNetEn2D) for evaluating the regularity or predictability of images using the LogNNet neural network model. The method is based on an algorithm for converting a 2D kernel into a 1D data series followed by NNetEn2D calculation. An artificial test image was created for the study. We demonstrate the advantage of using circular instead of square kernels through comparison of the invariance of the NNetEn2D distribution after image rotation. Highest robustness was observed for circular kernels with a radius of R = 5 and R = 6 pixels, with a NNetEn2D calculation error of no more than 10%, comparable to the distortion of the initial 2D data. The NNetEn2D entropy calculation method has two main geometric parameters (kernel radius and its displacement step), as well as two neural network hyperparameters (number of training epochs and one of six reservoir filling techniques). We evaluated our method on both remote sensing and geophysical mapping images. Remote sensing imagery (Sentinel-2) shows that brightness of the image does not affect results, which helps keep a rather consistent appearance of entropy maps over time without saturation effects being observed. Surfaces with little texture, such as water bodies, have low NNetEn2D values, while urban areas have consistently high values. Application to geophysical mapping of rocks to the northwest of southwest Australia is characterized by low to medium entropy and highlights aspects of the geology. These results indicate the success of NNetEn2D in providing meaningful entropy information for 2D in remote sensing and geophysical applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Variability, intermittency, and limited controllability are inherent characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) generation that result in inaccurate solutions to scheduling problems and the instability of the power grid. As the penetration level of PV generation increases, it becomes more important to mitigate these problems by improving forecasting accuracy. One of the alternatives to improving forecasting performance is to include a seasonal component. Thus, this study proposes using information on extraterrestrial radiation (ETR), which is the solar radiation outside of the atmosphere, in neural network models for day-ahead PV generation forecasting. Specifically, five methods for integrating the ETR into the neural network models are presented: (1) division preprocessing, (2) multiplication preprocessing, (3) replacement of existing input, (4) inclusion as additional input, and (5) inclusion as an intermediate target. The methods were tested using two datasets in Australia using four neural network models: Multilayer perceptron and three recurrent neural network(RNN)-based models including vanilla RNN, long short-term memory, and gated recurrent unit. It was found that, among the integration methods, including the ETR as the intermediate target improved the mean squared error by 4.1% on average, and by 12.28% at most in RNN-based models. These results verify that the integration of ETR into the PV forecasting models based on neural networks can improve the forecasting performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
