Key message: In the soybean variant V94-5152, a BCMV-resistance gene was mapped near to the region of SMV-resistance Rsv4 locus, raising a possibility that V94-5152 may rely on Rsv4 locus to resist against both SMV and BCMV. Both Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) and Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) can induce soybean mosaic diseases, but few studies have explored soybean resistance against BCMV so far. In this study, V94-5152, a soybean variant resistant to BCMV and SMV, was crossed with a susceptible cultivar, Williams 82 to map the resistance gene. By inoculating 292 F2 individuals with a BCMV isolate HZZB011, a segregation ratio of 3 resistant: 1 susceptible was observed, suggesting that V94-5152 possesses a single-dominant resistance gene against BCMV-HZZB011. Bulk segregation analysis (BSA) then revealed that the resistance gene is closely linked to BARCSOYSSR_02_0617, a simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker on chromosome 2. Genotyping neighboring SSR markers among the 292 F2 individuals enabled us to draw a genetic linkage map, which indicated that the BCMV-resistance gene is located 0.2 cM downstream of BARCSOYSSR_02_0617. Amplification and sequencing ten candidate genes (Glyma02g121300 to Glyma02g122200) around this marker then revealed four genes containing nonsynonymous changes or indels. Also, this location is near to the recently cloned SMV-resistance Rsv4 locus from the cultivar Peking. By obtaining ten more sequences of Rsv4 locus from cultivated and wild soybean materials, we further investigated the variation and evolutionary patterns of this virus-resistance locus. Seasonality is a typical characteristic of Beijing's regional vegetation, and plant color is one of the most prominent visual factors of vegetation dynamic. In this research, we explored the composition and dynamic characteristics of plant color in Beijing's urban vegetation, involving the analysis of overall characteristics and respective features of leaf, flower, and fruit colors. Color data was collected from 177 woody plant species in Beijing Botanical Garden, spanning their annual life cycle, and identified with the colorimetry of the Natural Color System (NCS). Correlation and regression analyses were applied to reveal the temporal dynamic features of overall plant color richness. Cluster analysis was applied to categorize tree species based on typical colors of various plant organs. Color richness and color dispersion were introduced as two factors to measure color diversity of various tree species, applied in species evaluation by sorting and principal component analysis (PCA). Color dispersion of three‐dimensional NCS data was measured with a modified SD based on the calculation of mean spatial distance in the NCS space. Main results are as follows. The first part is plant color composition. The composition of all plant colors contains 862 NCS color species, 20 blackness species ranging from 3 to 90, 20 chromaticness species ranging from 0 to 90, 35 hue species ranging from G10Y‐B90G, and N. The second part is temporal dynamic of overall color richness. Leaf color richness and total color richness are significantly positively correlated with pentad (5‐day) sequence; flower color richness is significantly negatively correlated with pentad sequence; and fruit color richness first increases and then decreases over time. The third part is cluster analysis of tree species. Based on typical growing‐leaf color, various tree species were clustered into 6 categories; based on typical senescent‐leaf color, various tree species were clustered into 6 categories; based on typical flower color, various tree species were clustered into 15 categories; based on typical fruit color, various tree species were clustered into 7 categories. The fourth part is color diversity evaluation of various tree species with PCA. According to the PCA of flower‐leaf color diversity, the species with higher leaf color diversity and higher flower color diversity include Cotinus coggygria, Lagerstroemia indica, and Amygdalus triloba; the species with higher flower color diversity and lower leaf color diversity include Campsis radicans and Tamarix chinensis; the species with higher leaf color diversity and lower flower color diversity include Acer ginnala and Crataegus pinnatifida; the species with lower color diversity both for flower and leaf colors include Fontanesia fortune and Gleditsia sinensis. According to the PCA of leaf color diversity, the species with higher leaf color diversity in both leaf growth period and leaf senescence period include Diospyros kaki, Lagerstroemia indica and Paeonia suffruticosa; the species with higher leaf color diversity in leaf growth period and lower leaf color diversity in leaf senescence period include Amygdalus persica 'Atropurpurea' and Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red'; the species with higher leaf color diversity in leaf senescent period and lower color diversity in leaf growth period include Quercus palustris, Armeniaca sibirica, and Metasequoia glyptostroboides; the species with lower leaf color diversity for the whole leaf development period include Gleditsia sinensis and Swida walteri. On November 28, 2013, Beijing’s carbon emissions trading opened on Beijing’s Environmental Exchange. As one of the pilot cities, Beijing has been pursuing low-carbon development strategies under state intervention and market regulation. This paper chooses the carbon market, a medium through which Beijing manages emission reduction, as the object of study. Firstly, we compare the basic construction circumstances of Beijing with other pilot cities. Then we qualitatively analyze the development of Beijing’s carbon market from the perspective of transaction status, execution of the contract, and improvement of the policies and regulations. Finally, we use the TOPSIS model to develop a comprehensive evaluation system of Beijing’s carbon market. It is used to quantitatively evaluate the operational performance and maturity of the mechanism. The results show that: Beijing’s carbon market has good comprehensive capabilities, ranking second place among seven pilot markets; but the maturity of Beijing’s carbon market is relatively poor for insufficient market liquidity; its operations are well managed, but economic efficiency still need to be improved; the depth of transaction and the effect of reduction in emissions make it meaningful. Therefore, in order to improve the construction of Beijing’s carbon market, measures should be taken as follows:(1) strengthening the quota management, and increasing carbon trading activity to avoid poor market liquidity; (2) accelerating emission reduction actions and encouraging technology innovation, such as: carrying out several policies and measures supporting new energy and energy saving & emission reduction, and increasing investment and subsidy in research and development for the technology innovation of firms etc.; (3) improving regulatory mechanism and enhancing the disclosure of carbon trading, such as: drawing lessons from the EU Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) about measuring, reporting and verification system (MRV). Objectives. The study aimed to assess the prevalence of obesity and the related behavioral risk factors among children in Beijing. Methods. Data were collected as part of a 2004 comprehensive study on obesity and metabolic syndrome among 21 198 children, aged 2–18 years old in Beijing. Four local and international references for the classification of childhood overweight and obesity were compared. Results. The combined prevalence of obesity and overweight among children, aged 2–18 years old, was 18.7%, 21.4%, and 20.1% based on the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF) reference, new World Health Organization (WHO) growth standard, and the US 2000 Center for Disease Control and Prevention Growth Charts, respectively; and it was 21.7%, according to the local Chinese body mass index (BMI) reference for school-age children (aged 7–18 years). Physical inactivity, less sleep duration, higher consumption of alcohol, snack food and Western fast food and more screen time were associated with overweight and obesity (p<0.05). Conclusions. Over 20% of children and adolescents in Beijing are overweight or obese. Effort should be made to combat the growing obesity epidemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current study was aimed at analysing the clinical features and efficacy of combined treatments in patients with sleep‐related painful erection (SRPE). Patients who presented with SRPE were continuously enrolled from the outpatient clinic of Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 2015 to 2021. Demographic data, medical history, diagnostics, treatment options and their effectiveness on SRPE in the short and long therapeutic term were recorded. Individually designed combined therapy aimed at controlling SRPE‐related symptoms and comorbidities (general health, pain, psychological and sleeping disorders, late‐onset hypogonadism, and lower urinary tract symptoms) was used, and the effectiveness was evaluated. In total, 44 patients with an average age of 44.66 ± 7.96 years were enrolled. The median length of the delay in diagnosis was 1.5 years (range, 1 month to 27 years). Combined treatment aimed at controlling symptoms was used, the mean GAD‐7, PHQ‐9, PSQI and VAS scores were significantly decreased to 4.25 ± 3.44, 4.55 ± 2.86, 7.65 ± 3.06, and 2.90 ± 1.89 after treatment for 3 months. Moreover, the VAS ratings were significantly decreased at 1 year of follow‐up (p < 0.001). SRPE mainly occurred in middle aged males, 79.55% (35/44) patients were more than 40 years old. The prevalence of anxiety, depression, poor sleep and nocturia is high in patients with SRPE. Combined treatments aimed at controlling these symptoms can be more effective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The aim of this study was to use a metabonomics approach to identify potential biomarkers of exhaled breath condensate (EBC) for predicting the prognosis of acute‐on‐chronic liver failure (ACLF). Methods: Using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, EBC metabolites of ACLF patients surviving without liver transplantation (n = 57) and those with worse outcomes (n = 45), and controls (n = 15) were profiled from a specialized liver disease center in Beijing. The metabolites were used to identify candidate biomarkers, and the predicted performance of potential biomarkers was tested. Results: Forty‐one metabolites, involving glycerophospholipid metabolism, sphingolipid metabolism, arachidonic acid metabolism, and amino acid metabolism, as candidate biomarkers for discriminating the different outcomes of ACLF were selected. A prognostic model was constructed by a panel of four metabolites including phosphatidylinositol [20:4(5Z,8Z,11Z,14Z)/13:0], phosphatidyl ethanolamine (12:0/22:0), L‐metanephrine and ethylbenzene, which could predict the worse prognosis in ACLF patients with sensitivity (84.4%) and specificity (89.5%) (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve [AUC] = 0.859, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.787–0.931). Compared with Model for End‐Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score (AUC = 0.639, 95% CI = 0.526–0.753) and MELD‐sodium (MELD‐Na) score (AUC = 0.692, 95% CI = 0.582–0.803), EBC‐associated metabolite signature model could better predict worse outcomes in patients with ACLF (p < 0.05). Using the MELD‐Na score and EBC metabolite signatures, a decision tree model was built for predicting the prognosis of ACLF identified on logistic regression analyses (AUC = 0.906, 95% CI = 0.846–0.965). Introduction: The increasing application of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) will cause more checkpoint inhibitor‐related pneumonitis (CIP), which is a common cause of ICI‐related death. The clinical management of CIP needs further optimization. Methods: Patients who were managed at Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) between February 2017 and December 2019 with a diagnosis of CIP were retrospectively analyzed. Clinical data including clinical manifestations, radiologic data, laboratory and bronchoscopy results, treatments, and outcomes were collected and analyzed. The Mann–Whitney test was used to compare patients with and without co‐infections. Results: In total, 48 CIP cases in 42 patients were analyzed. The median time from the first dose of ICI to the onset of CIP was 1.9 months (range: 0.1–13.7). Grade 3–4 (G3–4) accounted for 30 cases (71.4%). The most common symptoms were cough (88.1%) and dyspnea (78.6%). The median starting dose of equivalent prednisone (EP) was 55 mg (range: 30–200) for all patients. The median total duration of glucocorticosteroids (GCS) treatment was 42.5 days (range: 15−89). Three patients (7.14%) died because of infection. A higher starting dose and longer duration of GCS (≥30 mg/day; p = 0.001) were associated with opportunistic infection. Chest computed tomography (CT) showed diverse and asymmetrical lesions. Twelve patients were re‐challenged, and six patients developed recurrent CIP. Conclusions: The clinical and imaging manifestations of CIP are various, and differential diagnosis of exclusion is essential. GCS at 1–2 mg/kg is feasible to treat CIP, but the duration of GCS ≥30 mg/day should be used with caution, given the high risk of acquired infections. Many studies have measured the perceptions of consumers on different aspects of food safety but only a limited number of studies focused on consumer's perception of vegetable safety risks in developing countries. This study aimed to investigate consumers' behaviors and concerns on vegetable purchase and safety in Beijing urban areas. It identified the factors influencing consumers' behaviors on vegetable purchase, safety and information channel with different demographic groups of consumers. A total 590 of valid questionnaires were collected in this study in January, 2015. The participants of 352 female and 238 male were consumers shopping at the supermarkets in Beijing urban areas. Results indicated that consumers intended to choose their trusted purchasing places to purchase vegetables, and their perceptions of “freshness” (m = 4.61, sd. = 0.78) and “pesticide residues” (m = 4.57, sd. = 0.95) were the top concerns. Female and senior consumers were more concerned about vegetable safety. Consumers who purchase vegetables frequently were more likely to pay attention to food safety and quality than the ones who have never brought vegetables. Consumers used different information channels to get vegetable knowledge. Most consumers used traditional information channels such as TV and broadcasting, while young and well-educated consumers relied more on internet. The findings suggested that some safety control measures need to be taken through the vegetable supply chain to reduce the hazards and ensure vegetable safety, which would help to establish or rebuild consumers' trusts on vegetable safety.
