Drawing on a specific case of the El-Hawwar Sporting Club, located in El-Mansoura, Egypt, the primary intent of this study was to identify variables and key factors that contribute to an effective sport marketing promotional mix, used to enhance visibility and consumption of products and services of the sport organization. A total of 100 participants completed a questionnaire with questions using a 3-point Likert scale including demographic information to determine the effectiveness of a promotional mix to increase the service consumption of the HSC Sporting Club. The findings confirm the extraordinary value of a well-chosen promotional mix to increase the visibility and profitability of the touted goods and services. Participants provided several practical recommendations that include a call on today's sport marketers to invest sufficient time and resources in conducting a thorough market and consumer behavior analysis as a foundation for an effective promotional mix. This study found the use of promotion mixes in Egyptian clubs is still at its infancy and there is a dire need for more research on the topic in the future.

Inflammation is a part of the body's intricate biological reaction to noxious stimuli and defensive reactions. So, the aim of this investigation was to study the anti-inflammatory activity of exopolysaccharide (EPSSM) using carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. A halophilic bacterial strain was isolated from marine sediments in the Red Sea in Egypt. The isolate has been visually and physiologically recognized, as well as by analyzing its 16S rRNA gene, which confirms Kocuria sp. clone Asker4. This particular isolate can be referenced using the accession number OL798051.1. EPSSM was subjected to purification and fractionation by a DEAE-cellulose column. Preliminary chemical analysis of EPSSM indicated that the monosaccharides were fructose, glucuronic acid, and xylose, with 2.0, 0.5, and 1.0, respectively. The antioxidant potential of EPSSM was investigated, and it was discovered that the level of activity increased independently of the concentrations, reaching a maximum threshold of 94.13% at 100 µg/mL of EPSSM for 120 min. Also, EPSSM at 50 mg/kg orally produced a significant anti-inflammatory effect on the carrageenan model at 2, 3, and 4 intervals. The EPSSM intervention resulted in reductions in the levels of catalase and superoxide dismutase enzymes, as well as a decrease in glutathione. Furthermore, the levels of nitric oxide, lipid peroxidation, and reactive oxygen species resulting from carrageenan-induced edema showed a significant reduction subsequent to the administration of EPSSM. Moreover, the findings indicated that the protein expression levels of cyclooxygenase-2 and interleukin-6 were reduced following treatment with EPSSM, resulting in a reduction of paw edema. Concerns about potential health risks have made heavy metal contamination in food a prominent issue. The primary route of human exposure to metals is through food consumption. Hence, the objective of this study was to assess metal concentrations in game bird meat and calculate daily intake and associated health risks. An ICP-OES was employed to measure the levels of mercury (Hg), lead (Pb), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), magnesium (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), cobalt (Co), and iron (Fe). The study's results indicated that As, Zn, and Fe were present at relatively high levels in the studied groups, while Co, Hg, Cr, and Cd had comparatively lower mean concentrations. Among the detected heavy metals, there were no statistically significant differences between the three studied groups, except for Cr, Co, and Zn, which exhibited statistically significant variations. Most quails and pigeons stayed within the designated permissible limits (PL) for Hg, while sparrows exceeded these limits. Both quails and sparrows also exceeded the PL for Pb, whereas pigeons remained within it. In the case of Zn, Cu, and Co, the majority of the three species adhered to the PL, while they exceeded the PL for As. However, all three species remained within the PL for Cd and Cr. Despite the Hazard Quotients (HQs) for the tested heavy metals, with the exception of As, Fe, and Zn, not exceeding 1, this suggests that consuming game bird meat is unlikely to significantly elevate the risk of human exposure to these specific metals, indicating a lower potential health hazard. Milk contains a lot of bioactive peptides, vitamins, and trace minerals including calcium and magnesium. Mold contamination of milk and aflatoxin formation are major concerns in the food industry. One of the primary tasks of the food safety and public health sectors is to ensure that the population receives safe animal products. Given these considerations, the current investigation attempted to examine into mold contamination of retailed raw milk from cattle, buffaloes, and sheep. Furthermore, the total aflatoxins in the analyzed samples were estimated, and their potential health risks were explored further. The obtained results revealed that cattle milk had the highest mold contamination, followed by buffalo and sheep milk, with 60%, 40%, and 35%, respectively. In the current study, the identification of distinct mold species indicated four mold genera recovered from the milk samples, namely Aspergillus spp., Penicillium spp., Cladosporium spp., and Fusarium spp. Aspergillus spp. was the most prevalent mold genera isolated from the milk samples of cattle, sheep, and buffaloes, with 34%, 13.2%, and 11.3%, respectively. The mean total aflatoxins (ppb) levels in the milk samples tested were 5.05±0.25 (cattle), 4.22±0.18 (buffaloes), and 3.1±0.11 (sheep), respectively. In conclusion, mold contamination was found in retailed raw milk from cattle, buffaloes, and sheep in Zagazig, Egypt. Aflatoxin was found in several samples. High-quality animal protein, vitamins B1, B6, and B12, as well as minerals like zinc, selenium, and iron, can all be found in buffalo meat and milk. Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) have been widely utilized for many years because of their long duration of action, low cost, and toxicity against a variety of pests. Despite being outlawed everywhere, OCPs are still being used illegally. One of the main responsibilities of the food safety and public health sectors is to guarantee the safety and wholesomeness of such food products before they are made available to the public. In order to determine the residual OCP contents in retailed buffalo meat, liver, kidney, milk, and kariesh cheese, this study was conducted. The obtained results in the current investigation revealed the detection of OCPs at 75%, 40%, 25%, 60%, and 80% in the examined buffalo raw milk, kariesh cheese, meat, kidneys, and liver. Different OCPs were detected at variable concentrations; however, such concentrations were within the established permissible limits in Egypt. In conclusion, OCPs are still in use in Egyptian agricultural activities and residual concentrations can be detected in the meat, offal, and dairies. Therefore, it is highly advised to continuously check for OCP residues in foods with both animal and plant origins. Background: The prime principle of sustainable consumption is to enhance the quality of life without environmental degradation and securing the needs of the future generation. The world nowadays is facing unsustainable consumption. It threatens the environment and leads to depletion of resources. It is a challenge facing the sustainable development. The aim of this study is to assess knowledge, attitude and practice of the university students towards sustainable consumption and to determine the impact of socio-demographic characteristics on their practice. Methods Cross-sectional study included (n=403) university students completed an online questionnaire consisting of demographic variables, and items assessing sustainable consumption Knowledge, attitude and practice Results: Ninety eight percent of the students had high knowledge, 94% had moderate attitude and 74.7% had poor sustainable consumption behavior. Mean score was significantly higher among females, rural residents, high parents' educational level and monthly family income below5000LE (p<0.01). Conclusions: The students had sustainable consumption knowledge and favorable attitude yet irresponsible practice. This will be counteracting obstacle for the sustainable development. Objective: To study the prevalence and impact of comorbidities among a cohort of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods: This study is retrospective, multicenter including 902 Egyptian patients with SLE. Medical records were reviewed for demographic data, clinical characteristics, routine laboratory findings, immunological profile, and medications. Moreover, SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI), and the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics/American College Rheumatology Damage Index scores were calculated. Results: Comorbidities were found in 75.5% of the studied group with hypertension and dyslipidemia as the most frequent comorbidities (43.1% and 40.1%, respectively), followed by sicca features, avascular necrosis, diabetes, osteoporosis and renal failure (11.5%,9%, 9%,8.9%, and 7.1%, respectively). Multivariate regression model showed statistically significant relation between the presence of comorbid condition and each of age (P = 0.006), disease duration (P = 0.041), SLEDAI at onset (P < 0.001), cyclophosphamide intake (P = 0.001), and cumulative pulse intravenous methylprednisone (P < 0.001). Also, when adjusted to age and sex, those with multiple comorbid conditions had 18.5 increased odds of mortality compared to those without comorbidities (odds ratio (OR), 95% confidence interval (CI) = 18.5 (6.65–51.69)]. Conclusion: Patients with SLE suffer from several comorbidities, with an increasing risk with age, longer disease duration, higher SLEDAI at onset, cyclophosphamide intake and cumulative pulse intravenous methylprednisone. Bacterial diseases are one of the most challenging issues facing aquaculture sector. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) has been regarded as one of the most significant threats to the fishing industry, which also affects public health. We aimed to elucidate the occurrence and antibiogram profile of P. aeruginosa recovered from Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and smoked herring (Clupea harengus) with emphasis on their antibiotic resistance genes (blaTEM, blaSHV, blaOXA-1 and ampC) and virulence determinant genes (oprL and toxA). A total of 150 fish samples (110 diseased Nile tilapia, and 40 smoked herring) were collected randomly from retails of Gharbia Governorate, Egypt. The retrieved isolates were phenotypically characterized using standard methods of culturing and biochemical tests. Then, verified using molecular assay, 16S rRNA gene was detected in 100% of the tested isolates. The overall incidence of P. aeruginosa was 33.3%, out of which 45% from smoked herring and 29% from Nile Tilapia. The occurrence of P. aeruginosa in various infected organs of O. niloticus showed that the gills were the most obviously infected organ followed by kidney, liver, and spleen, respectively. A significant difference (P< 0.05) was noticed in the distribution of P. aeruginosa among O. niloticus internal organs. The phenotypic susceptibility to nine commonly used antimicrobial agents was detected using disc diffusion assay. The tested strains were extremely susceptible to ciprofloxacin, amikacin, and imipenem, whereas exhibited remarkable resistance to oxacillin, cefpodoxime, amoxicillin with clavulanic acid, ceftriaxone, and nalidixic acid. Interestingly, 100% of P. aeruginosa isolates were multiple antimicrobial resistant (MAR). Three resistance phenotypes profiles were identified with MAR index ranged from 0.4-0.5. Screening for antibiotic resistance genes revealed a diversity of β-lactamases in P. aeruginosa isolates, with blaTEM being the most dominant gene (100%), followed by blaSHV, and ampC with a total prevalence of 66.6% to all of them. The identified antimicrobial resistance phenotypes and genotypes were found to be significantly correlated. Subsequently, the distribution of virulence determinants in these strains was identified. These isolates had 100% prevalence of oprL and toxA virulence genes. In conclusion, the emergence of MDR P. aeruginosa in fish particularly ESBL and AmpC beta-lactamases producers could pose a potential health hazard to consumers. Thus, antimicrobial susceptibility must be continuously monitored to assess potential risks to human health. For businesses that depend on reliable and secure IT systems, choosing the best location for a data center is of paramount importance. Data center accessibility, operational efficiency, cost, and security are all affected by their physical location. The procedure entails considering a wide range of elements to guarantee that the final site meets the needs of the business. This paper investigated the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model to select the best data center location based on a set of criteria. The MCDM method is integrated with the single-valued neutrosophic set (SVNS) to deal with vague and inaccurate information. A neutrosophic set with truth, indeterminacy, and falsity membership functions all in the range [0, 1] is called a SVNS. This paper used SVNS with three MCDM methods such as entropy, TOPSIS, and MABAC techniques. The entropy technique is used to compute the weights of criteria, then the TOPSIS and MABAC methods are used to rank the locations. The case study is investigated in Egypt. Two fungal species were isolated from the studied rock samples and identified morphologically as Aspergillus hollandicus and Penicillium citrinum. Bioleaching process was applied to W1, W2 and W3. The average concentration activity of 238U, 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K are 5134.03, 5708.64, 189.51, and 1456.8 BqKg−1, respectively. Radionuclide's distribution in leach liquor, residual, and fungal adsorption were followed and environmental hazard indices (Raeq, Iγ, Hex, Hin, and ECLR) were calculated. From the observed outcomes, the isolated fungal strains have the potential to reduce the harmful effect up to 50% compared to the original. Wellbore instability constitutes potential risks during wellbore drilling operation; these risks may cause complicated states, and in some cases, can lead to costly operational issues. In this study we present the best solution by predicting and quantifying wellbore instability in Muzhil field, Gulf of Suez, using a 1-DMechanical Earth Model (1DMEM) built with well logs, pressure measurements, and drilling events reports. Firstly, we created 1DMEM by calculating the pore pressure, vertical stress, rock strength, rock elastic parameters, and horizontal stresses. Mohr Coulomb, Modified Lade and Mogi Coulomb failure criteria determined the well deformation possibility. Lastly 1-DMEM can be used to conduct a comprehensive geo-mechanical wellbore stability analysis for the trouble zones of Muzhil Formation. 1-DMEM results showed that the best azimuth for Vertical and slightly inclined Wells will be (40º–60º) clockwise from the North, i.e., parallel to SHmin (NE40SW). The wellbore stability analysis showed that the vertical and low deviated wellbore (less than 40º) is safe and more stable than the horizontal and high deviated wellbore and unsuitable Mud Weight (MW) is a major cause of the wellbore instability. The optimal solution to wellbore instability is to follow the optimum wellbore path and use safe MW. The optimum MW in shale formation ranges from (13.5-15) ppg. The results contribute to the development plan of the wellbores nearby the studied area and reducing nonproductive time and cost. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: Egypt has the highest prevalence of hepatitis C infection in the world with a dramatic increase in the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) observed during the last decade. Currently, HCC is the most prevalent cancer in men and the second most prevalent cancer in women in Egypt. There are limited published data on the implication of host KIR genotypes and the progression of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection to HCC. We describe the first analysis of Egyptian KIR genotypes from the Nile Delta region. The findings of this study suggest that KIR haplotype AA, that contains dominantly inhibitory genes, was less frequent in HCC patients compared to chronic HCV patients and healthy control subjects. Therefore, haplotype AA may have a crucial role in host defense against HCC progression. In Egypt, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most prevalent cancer in men and the second most prevalent cancer in women. In addition, Egypt has one of the highest prevalences of hepatitis C infection in the world. The aim of the present work was to study the potential role of the 16 KIR genes in the outcome of individuals with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in Egypt. The study was carried out under an IRB-approved protocol. Sequence-Specific-Primer-PCR (SSP-PCR) was used for KIR genotyping of germline DNA extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes or from the non-tumor liver of 83 HCC patients, 100 patients with chronic HCV infection without HCC, and 120 matched healthy controls. Out of the 83 HCC patients, only 7 (8.4%) were treated by interferon and/or interferon Ribavirin combination, while for the remaining patients 50 (60.2%) received no prior HCV therapy and 26 (31.3%) were treated with direct-acting antiviral (DAA). Our results showed that KIR haplotype AA that contains more inhibitory KIR genes and fewer activating genes was observed with a significantly lower frequency in HCC patients (6/83, 7.2%) compared to chronic HCV (27/100, 27.0%) (p = 0.0005, OR = 0.21 [0.08–0.53]) and healthy controls (29/119, 24.4%) (p = 0.001, OR = 0.24 [0.09–0.61]). In addition, the frequency of genotype 6 (G6) which contains all the KIR genes was significantly high in the HCC patients (16/83, 19.3%) compared to chronic HCV (8/100, 8.0%) (p = 0.02, OR = 2.7 [1.11–6.79]) and healthy controls (8/119, 6.7%) (p = 0.006, OR = 3.31 [1.35–8.16]). Activating KIR genes 2DS1 and 3DS1 were significantly higher in HCC patients (48/83, 57.83% and 45/83, 54.22%) compared to the chronic HCV patients (36/100, 36% and 34/100, 34%), p = 0.028, 0.027, respectively. Our results are contrary to a prior work on HCC from patients with HCV who were mostly treated by interferon-based therapies. In conclusion, KIR haplotype AA has an important role in host defense against HCC progression especially in patients treated by DAA, suggesting an important role of the KIR genotype status on the outcome of chronic HCV infection. Four bacterial isolates were obtained from marine sediments collected from Sahl Hashish, Hurghada Red Sea, Egypt. This study was designed to search for promising anti-Alzheimer natural polysaccharide; therefore, four isolates were screened for exopolysaccharides (EPSs) production and acetylcholinesterase inhibition. The isolate S16 provided the highest EPS yield (7.51 g/L) and acetylcholinesterase inhibition. It was identified morphologically and genetically using 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis as Bacillus maritimus. A Physicochemical analysis of S16 exopolysaccharide (BMEPS) was estimated, which pointed to the presence of uronic acid and sulfate (24.7% and 18.3%, respectively). HPLC analysis indicated that mannuronic acid, glucuronic acid, glucose, and mannose are presented in a molar ratio of 0.8:1.0:2.8:2.3, respectively. Furthermore, FT-IR revealed an abundance of β-configurations. The GPC estimated the average molecular weight (Mw) as 4.31 × 104 g/mol. BMEPS inhibited AChE (IC50; 691.77 ± 8.65 μg/ ml), BChE (IC50; 288.27 ± 10.50 μg/ ml), and tyrosinase (IC50; 3.34 ± 0.09, 14.00 ± 0.14, and 22.96 ± 1.23 μg/ ml during incubation durations of 10, 20, and 40 min). It also demonstrated a selective anti-inflammatory action against COX-2 rather than COX-1. Moreover, BMEPS exhibited antioxidant capabilities as free radical and oxygen reactive species (ROS) scavenger, metal chelator, reductant agent, and lipid peroxidation suppressor. These activities are due to the distinct chemical composition. The findings of this study indicate that BMEPS could be considered as promising anti-disease Alzheimer's (AD) material in an in-vitro model, which qualifies it for advanced in-vivo studies in the discovery of alternative Alzheimer's treatment. Introduction: In this research, we investigated any possible effect of receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) or risperidone on the core symptoms of autism in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Methods: This study was a randomized, controlled clinical trial in Minia and Assiut University hospitals in Egypt with three parallel groups. One hundred and eighty children with autism, aged 5–8 years were divided into three equal groups (n=60). Group 1 (G1) received 40 sessions of HBOT within two months, group 2 (G2) received risperidone (dose: 0.25 mg per day in children weighing less than 20 kg and 0.5 mg per day in cases weighing more) for six months, and group 3 (G3) as the control group, received a placebo for six months. The assessment was done using childhood autism rating scale (CARS) and autism treatment evaluation checklist (ATEC) at the beginning of the study (baseline) and after one year. Results: The mean total CARS and ATEC scores significantly decreased (improved) by varying degrees in the three groups after a year of follow-up compared to the baseline scores, but the best results were found in G1, G2, and G3, respectively. Conclusion: Using HBOT or risperidone is effective in treating the core symptoms of autism in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, but using HBOT gives better results than risperidone therapy. Aim: Previous studies have suggested variable levels of associations between work–family conflict (W_F_C) and its antecedents in different populations. We aimed to assess the antecedents of this conflict and its two types; work-to-family (WFC) and family-to-work (FWC) among Egyptian civil workers. Subjects and methods: In a convenience sample of 3134 Egyptian civil workers, we assessed the W_F_C using the National Study of Midlife Development in the US and attributed it, by logistic and linear regression analyses, to several sociodemographic, work/family situational, behavioral, and health-related variables which were collected by a questionnaire survey between October 2019 and January 2020. Results: W_F_C was prevalent in 56% of the sample (51% for WFC and 62% for FWC). The work and family situational factors were the most significant antecedents of the W_F_C and its two types; partial R2 was 0.71. Both the health-related and behavioral clusters of antecedents were also predictors of W_F_C, while the sociodemographic antecedents contributed minimally to the FWC. The multivariable odds ratios (95% CIs) for high W_F_C in those with high vs low work demands, job control, social support at work, and family were 4.11 (2.89–7.03), 0.0 (0.66–0.90), 0.86 (0.62–0.98), and 0.74 (0.59–0.94), respectively. Conclusions: Work and family situational factors were the most significant antecedents of the levels of W_F_C in Egyptian civil workers. The Egyptian authorities could reduce the civil workers' W_F_C by improving the work environment, finding ways to relieve the workload demands, and helping the civil workers to have more job control and social support. Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute, self-limited febrile disease of unidentified cause that mostly affects children less than 5 years of age. This work aimed to provide an appropriate Egyptian evidence-based consensus on clinical practice recommendations for the management of Kawasaki disease. The main objective of this study, which employed the Delphi method, was to reach a consensus among experts on a treat-to-target management approach for KD. Results: The expert panel was confined to an online survey (n=26), and all the expert completed the three rounds. At the conclusion of round 3, a total of 17 recommendation items were gathered, which were divided into two sections. The range of respondents (ranks 7–9) who agreed with the recommendations was 92.3 to 100%. All 17 clinical standards identified by the scientific committee were written in the same way. There have been algorithms proposed for managing various KD conditions. Conclusion: The developed evidence-based consensus recommendations for the diagnosis and management of KD represent an up-to-date document that focuses on clinical management questions which are generally posed to health care professionals involved in the management of KD. Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease characterized by having varying clinical presentation, severity, unpredictable course as well as outcomes. Recent disease-modifying conventional and biologic agents have enhanced rates of attaining both short- and long-term management goals, including minimization of glucocorticoid dose and use. This study was carried out to develop an up-to-date evidence-based, consensus on clinical practice guidelines for treat-to-target management of systemic lupus erythematosus in adults. Results: The response rate to the online questionnaires, sent to the expert panel who participated in the three rounds, was 95.5%. At the end of round 3, a total of 14 recommendation sections were proposed for the T2T management of patients with SLE. Agreement with the recommendations (rank 7–9) ranged from 90.9–100%. Consensus was reached (i.e., ≥ 80% of respondents strongly agreed or agreed) on the proposed statements. Conclusion: These recommendations provide a consensus on the treat-to-target management of patients with SLE. There is an urgent need for greater water resources to support sustainable development in Ras Gara area of southwestern Sinai. Determining the water-bearing zones of the shallow Quaternary aquifer of the Araba Formation in the study region is therefore the main objective of the research. This will be done by using a variety of geophysical techniques, such as DC resistivity sounding and shallow seismic refraction surveys. Using the Schlumberger array (max. AB = 1200 m), the DC data were gathered at 27 VES locations along five primary profiles. At the same locations, 27 spreads totaling 115 m in length of seismic data were also performed. One-dimensional laterally constrained (1D-LCI) inversion is only applied to the DC data in order to generate a best-fit model, whereas 2D inversion is applied to other datasets. The area is divided up into five geo-electrical layers based on the results of 1D-LCI inversion of DC data, and the aquifer is classified into fresh (third layer) and saline bearing-zones (fourth layer). The resistivity values of the fresh-zone range from 8.7 to 26.7 Ω.m, with only low values (5–7.5 Ω.m) found at some VES sites, while the resistivity values of the saline-zone range between 0.9 and 3 Ω.m, except for (14.4 Ω.m) at VES-04. At depths of (2.4–15.6 m) and (8.7–28.5 m) for the fresh and saline zones, respectively. In this region, the shallow low resistive (about 10–100 Ω.m) and intermediate high conductive (< 10 Ω.m) layers of the 2D-DC inverted model represent the fresh and saline zones of the aquifer, respectively. The basement rocks were represented by a deep, extremely high resistive layer that can reach 40,000 Ω.m. Three subsurface layers are identified from the results of the 2D inversion of seismic data (VP1 = 400–1100 m.s−1, VP2 = 1200–1900 m.s−1 and VP3 = 2400–5400 m.s−1). The saturated zone of this aquifer is represented by the second layer (depth, 3.7–20.5 m). The basement rocks are also reflected in the last layer of high velocity. The inversion results and the previously available hydro-geological map data show a good degree of concordance. Simple Summary: Cystic echinococcosis is a zoonotic helminthic disease that causes severe economic losses. The prevalence of hydatidosis was 21.7% in examined camels. Camels' liver infections were rare, whereas their lung infections were more common. By comparing to non-infected camels, the level of malondialdehyde (MAD) was significantly increased with hydatid cysts infection, while the levels of reduced glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and (catalase) CAT were significantly decreased. The histopathological sections of camel cyst revealed layered membranes surrounded by a zone of cellular infiltration and an outermost fibrous tissue reaction. In addition, there was evidence of atelectasis, emphysema, hemorrhage, congestion, and fibrosis in the surrounding tissues. Camels' liver infections were rare, whereas their lung infections were more common. Wasting is one of the symptoms of malnutrition that has been connected to the deaths of malnourished children. This study was intended to explain the effect of socio‐demographic and economic factors on under‐5 wasting by evaluating their conditional effect across the distribution of weight‐for‐height Z (WHZ) scores using the quantile regression (QR) model. The weighted sample which included 13,680 children under 5 years was taken from the countrywide Egyptian DHS 2014 survey. The results depicted that about 2% of Egyptian children were severely wasted, with the prevalence of wasting being around 8%. It was discovered that across the WHZ distribution, the child's features, maternal characteristics, father's education, and social factors had significant but varied contributions in explaining the wasting status of under‐5 children. It was revealed that female children had a significant weight advantage, notably 0.21 standard deviation (SD) higher weight at the 95th quantile over their male counterparts. The WHZ score was also found to be significantly positively associated with both age and household's wealth status at the lower and upper tails of the WHZ distribution, respectively. Moreover, in comparison with children whose mothers were underweight, those whose mothers were normal or overweight had higher WHZ scores, with a 1.45 SD increase in WHZ scores at the 95th quantile for mothers who were normal weights. Furthermore, the children who were breastfed, whose mothers received antenatal care (ANC) services, and/or who had educated parents had an advantage in terms of WHZ scores than their counterparts. In addition, the children with higher birth order and/or who resided in urban areas had weight disadvantages compared to their counterparts. Therefore, in order to improve children's nutritional status and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, the government and public–private owner organizations must work together at the community level focusing on vulnerable groups. The structure and dynamic of soil bacterial community play a crucial role in soil health and plant productivity. However, there is a gap in studying the un-/or reclaimed soil bacteriome and its impact on future plant performance. The 16S metagenomic analysis is expensive and utilize sophisticated pipelines, making it unfavorable for researchers. Here, we aim to perform (1) in silico and in vitro validation of taxon-specific qPCR primer-panel in the detection of the beneficial soil bacterial community, to ensure its specificity and precision, and (2) multidimensional analysis of three soils/locations in Egypt ('Q', 'B', and 'G' soils) in terms of their physicochemical properties, bacteriome composition, and wheat productivity as a model crop. The in silico results disclosed that almost all tested primers showed high specificity and precision toward the target taxa. Among 17 measured soil properties, the electrical conductivity (EC) value (up to 5 dS/m) of 'Q' soil provided an efficient indicator for soil health among the tested soils. The 16S NGS analysis showed that the soil bacteriome significantly drives future plant performance, especially the abundance of Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria as key indicators. The functional prediction analysis results disclosed a high percentage of N-fixing bacterial taxa in 'Q' soil compared to other soils, which reflects their positive impact on wheat productivity. The taxon-specific qPCR primer-panel results revealed a precise quantification of the targeted taxa compared to the 16S NGS analysis. Moreover, 12 agro-morphological parameters were determined for grown wheat plants, and their results showed a high yield in the 'Q' soil compared to other soils; this could be attributed to the increased abundance of Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria, high enrichment in nutrients (N and K), or increased EC/nutrient availability. This study was conducted to determine the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) levels and health risk of farm raw milk and ultra-heat treated (UHT) sterile market milk collected from different sources at Mansoura Province in Egypt using gas chromatography- mass spectrometry (GC- MS) during different seasons from August 2021 to December 2021. The results showed that the total amount of Σ18 PAHs levels was within the range of 11.778 -- 26.331 µg/kg in farm milk samples and 1.151 -- 2.946 µg/g in market UHT sterile milk. The results proved that the highest mean level of Σ PAHs in farm milk samples was 17.931 µg/kg followed by that of market sterile milk samples 2.123 µg/kg. European Commission (EC) has established safe level in milk for regulations require the concentrations of Benzo(a) pyrene (BaP) and the total Σ PAH4 to be less than 1.0 μg/kg. Mean concentration of BaP residues that was detected in farm milk samples was 0.251µg/kg with a range of 0.000 -- 1.124 µg/kg and was not-detected in all market milk samples. Mean concentrations of Σ PAH4 levels were 0.561 µg/kg within the range of 0.046 -- 2.433 µg/kg in farm milk and 0.047 µg/kg within the range of 0.012 -- 0.110 µg/kg in market milk samples. These results were slightly higher than the critical limit set by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The assessed dietary exposure was established by comparing the Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) with Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI). By comparing the obtained results, we found that for the BaP, the EDI for farm raw milk can be exceeded the maximum levels set in Regulation 1881/2006 (EFSA) for PAHs in milk, but UHT market sterile milk not exceeded the maximum levels. Background: Psychological morbidity has been documented in medical and pharmaceutical undergraduate students in different countries around the world. In this study, we examined the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) home quarantine on the depressive psychological aspects of last-grade pharmacy students. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted by the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Deraya University, Egypt. Two hundred and sixty-eight last-grade pharmacy students were included in this study, and they completed a self-administered, pre-designed, anonymous questionnaire. The main outcome measures were the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HRS) and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), which were measured to screen for the symptoms of psychological depression and determine the degree of depression severity between the beginning and the end of the COVID-19 home quarantine period. Data entry and analysis were done using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software version 26. Descriptive statistics were employed for analyses of the data, and categorical variables were described by frequencies and percentages. Bivariate and multivariable analyses were performed to examine relations between demographic data and psychological scales. The study protocol was approved by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Minia University Ethical Committee. Results: A total of 268 students participated in this study (102 males and 166 females). The mean ± SD score of baseline HRS and HRS at the end of the study was 6.3 ± 4.45, 7.95 ± 5.36, respectively, with the presence of a statistically significant difference between the two scores (p < 0.001). The mean ± SD score of baseline PHQ-9 and PHQ-9 at the end of the study was 4.35 ± 3.45, 5.37 ± 4.14, respectively, with the presence of a statistically significant difference between the two scores (p < 0.001). The results showed that the COVID-19 home quarantine period led to a depressive psychological effect on the students in this study. Conclusions: Students' psychological depression causes morbidity and, in some cases, mortality. Psychological depressive problems were significantly associated with the COVID-19 home quarantine period, which calls for early intervention to solve it. The purpose of this investigation is the supportive functions of L-carnitine when co-administered with the DDP-4 inhibitor member and the nephroprotective impact of alogliptin in nephrotoxicity induced by gentamicin in male Wistar rats. A total number of 25 male Albino rats weighed 130.0±5.7 g, and divided into five equal groups, G1: (Control negative), G2: (Control positive, has nephrotoxicity), G3: (Treated group with L-carnitine), G4: (Treated with Alogliptin) and G5: (Treated with alogliptin and L-carnitine). The biochemical results of serum total proteins, albumin, urea, uric acid, and creatinine were significantly changed (P ≤ 0.05) among different groups while serum globulin was not significant, and the mean values of these parameters showed significant variations in G5 than G3 and G4. The following measures were made in order to identify the oxidative/antioxidant cascades: glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase (CAT);, concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) and Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD) and these parameters were showed significant changes (P ≤ 0.05) among different groups and the mean value showed the significant of G5 than G3 and G4. The results of the histological and immunohistochemical analyses point to a possible function for alogliptin and L-carnitine in preventing renal tissue destruction in rat models of gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity. According to the improvement of various biochemical indicators and oxidative state as well as the restoration of the renal structural integrity and function, treatment with alogliptin or L-carnitine protects the kidney through their antioxidant action. Ismailia Canal is one of the significant streams of the Nile River in Egypt. The study aimed to determine the water quality of Ismailia Canal based on the regional and seasonal variability of physicochemical parameters, irrigation criteria, and the irrigation water quality index (IWQI). It was observed that the physicochemical parameters were within the acceptable FAO irrigation limits. All cations and anions values were within the acceptable FAO limits for irrigation, except the potassium (K+) concentrations were over the permissible irrigation limits. The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) suggested a significant seasonal variation in the canal's water quality concerning all parameters (p value ˂ 0.05). However, the regional variation among various sites was statistically insignificant (p value > 0.05). Statistical analysis was used to calculate the correlation coefficient between different parameters, and the study showed highly significant correlation coefficients between different pairs of water quality parameters. The correlation matrix showed that the pH significantly affected IWQI (r = 0.661). The irrigation criterion values for Ismailia Canal were good, and the WQI levels for irrigation utilization at all studied sites were satisfactory. Deterioration of water quality may occur due to industrial, municipal, and agricultural activities. The issue of soil contamination is one of the most important subjects that interests decision-makers all over the world. It is also related to soil fertility and food security. The soils adjacent to the drains in Egypt suffer from increasing concentration of heavy metals, which negatively affects soil and crop quality. Precise spatial distribution maps of heavy metals are an essential key to mitigating the negative impacts on the ecosystem. Sixty random soil locations adjacent to the El-Moheet drainage were chosen on the west side of the Nile River, El-Minia governorate, Egypt. Six heavy metals (Cr, Co, Cu, Cd, Pb, and Zn) were selected to generate their spatial pattern maps using ordinary Kriging (OK). Principal component analysis (PCA) and contamination factors (CF) were applied to evaluate soil contamination levels in the study area. The results showed that the Gaussiang model was a high fit for soil pH, and Pb, the Exponential model was fit for EC, Stable model was fit for OC, Co, Cu, and Cd. In addition, the Spherical model was fit for both Cr and Zn. The MSE values were close to zero in all selected metals, while the values of RMSSE were close to one. The results showed that the soil heavy metal concentrations were grouped into two clusters using PCA. Furthermore, three contamination degrees were obtained (moderate, considerable, and very high), with about 70.7% of the study area characterized by considerable heavy metals concentration, where the average heavy metals concentration (mg kg−1) in this degree was 91.23 ± 19.5, 29.44 ± 5.2, 53.83 ± 10.2, 1.12 ± 0.3, 36.04 ± 18.0, and 101.29 ± 35 for Cr, Co, Cu, Cd, Pb, and Zn, respectively. The current results reflect the mismanagement and use of low-quality water for irrigation in the study area, which increased the toxic element concentration in soil surface layers. In the end, the results of spatial distribution maps of pollutants and their degrees could support decision-makers as a basis for developing appropriate mitigation plans for heavy metals. Arranged from oldest to youngest, the main granitic rock units exposed in Khour Abalea are metagabbros, cataclastic rocks, ophiolitic melange, granitic rocks, pegmatite and lamprophyre dykes. The presence of radioactivity associated with the heavy bearing minerals in construction materials—like granite—increased interest in the extraction process. As it turns out, granitic rocks play an important economic part in the examination of an area's surroundings. The radionuclide content is measured by using an NaI (Tl)-detector. In the mineralized pegmatites, U (326 to 2667 ppm), Th (562 to 4010 ppm), RaeU (495 to 1544 ppm) and K (1.38 to 9.12%) ranged considerably with an average of 1700 ppm, 2881.86 ppm, 1171.82 ppm and 5.04%, respectively. Relationships among radioelements clarify that radioactive mineralization in the studied pegmatites is magmatic and hydrothermal. A positive equilibrium condition confirms uranium addition to the studied rocks. This study determined 226Ra, 232Th and 40K activity concentrations in pegmatites samples and assessed the radiological risks associated with these rocks. The activity concentrations of 226Ra (13,176 ± 4394 Bq kg−1), 232Th (11,883 ± 5644 Bq kg−1) and 40K (1573 ± 607 Bq kg−1) in pegmatites samples (P) are greater than the global average. The high activity of the mineralized pegmatite is mainly attributed to the presence of uranium mineral (autunite), uranophane, kasolite and carnotite, thorium minerals (thorite, thorianite and uranothorite) as well as accessories minerals—such as zircon and monazite. To assess the dangerous effects of pegmatites in the studied area, various radiological hazard factors (external, internal hazard indices, radium equivalent activity and annual effective dose) are estimated. Two field experiments were carried out at Ismailia Agricultural Research Station, Agricultural Research Center, Ismailia governorate (Lat. 30° 35' 30" N, Long. 32° 14' 50" E, 10 m a.s.l.),Egypt, during 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 growing seasons. The objective of this study was to determine the rate of potassium silicate that could mitigate the effect of water shortage on productivity of faba bean intercropped with sugar beet and its effects on water and land equivalent ratios, as well as farmer’s net revenue. In split plot design with three replications, three irrigation treatments i.e., 120, 100and 85% Evapo transpiration (mm/d) (ETo) were assigned to the main plots, while three rates of sprayed potassium silicate (unsprayed (control), 200 ppm and 300 ppm) were arranged in sub-plots. The results showed that irrigation with 120% ETo and spraying with 200 ppm potassium silicate attained the highest yield and its components for both faba bean and sugar beet under their intercropping system in both growing seasons. For faba been and sugar beet, N, K and Si content were positively affected by irrigation levels at 100% ETo with foliar potassium silicate 200 ppm, but P content was positively affected by irrigation levels at 120% ETo with foliar 200 ppm potassium silicate. The available P and K in the soil were positively affected by irrigation with 120% ETo with foliar 300 ppm potassium silicate. N content was positive affected by irrigation with 100% ETo with foliar 200 ppm potassium silicate. The highest values of water and land equivalent ratios (WER and LER), as well as total and net return were obtained under irrigation with 120% ETo and spraying with 200 ppm potassium silicate. However, both WER and LER under application of 100% ETo and 200 potassium silicate were higher than irrigation with120% ETo and unsprayed plants in both growing seasons. The highest value of farmer net revenue was obtained when 120% ETo and spraying with 200 ppm potassium silicate were applied. Thus, to attain the highest faba bean with sugar beet in an intercropping system and highest water and land equivalent ratios, as well as farmer’s net revenue, 120% ETo and spraying with 200 ppm potassium silicate should be applied. This paper aims to evaluate of silica and alumina nanocomposites in consolidation and protection of archaeological glass from early Islamic period in Egypt. Archaeological glass is exposed to deterioration by moisture, as water is considered one of the most dangerous damage factors that attack glass artifacts. This results in many aspects of deterioration including weeping glass, cracks, dulling, formation of weathering crusts, salt growing, and corroded surfaces. From this standpoint, materials which are used in the consolidation and protection of those glass artifacts must have the property of hydrophobicity in order to protect them from the harmful effects of water. In the last decade, polymer-nanoparticle composites have attracted great interest in the field of culture heritage conservation due to their unique multifunctional properties resulting from the high surface area and chemical activity of the nanoparticles dispersed in the polymers. In this study, Silicon dioxide (SiO2) and alumina oxide (Al2O3) nanoparticles are added to silicon based polymer (poly alkyl siloxane) (Silres BS-290) in order to improve their physiochemical and mechanical properties. This produced a significant improvement in the ability of the polymers to consolidate and protect archaeological glass. The treated samples are exposed to artificial ageing to test the efficiency of the consolidation materials. The properties of untreated, treated and aged glass samples were evaluated by TEM, stereo microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), colormetric measurements, static water contact angle, density and hardness tests (physical and mechanical properities). Results showed that the treated sample with SiO2/Al2O3/Poly siloxane nanocomposites are good candidates for consolidation and protection of glass objects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was carried out in the dental school of Ahram Canadian University in Egypt to investigate the knowledge and compliance of senior students and interns toward infection control practices. A self-administered questionnaire was employed with questions pertinent to the participants' knowledge of risks in the dental settings, the practice of hand hygiene, the use of protective equipment, and the management of sharp injuries, among others. Although the knowledge and practice of the 240 surveyed participants were good; they were not up to the coveted standards. Despite being an integral part of their curriculum, an alarming percentage (19.6%) of the participants denied receiving knowledge about infection control instructions. Meanwhile, only 72.5% were aware of being at risk in the dental settings, and 78.3% confirmed their practice of hand hygiene. On the other hand, 84.6% of the surveyed participants confirmed the availability of protective equipment and 94.2% of them expressed their willingness to apply infection control measures in the future. The defects in the knowledge and practice mandate corrective actions to promote and upgrade the students' compliance. Meanwhile, other gaps can be rectified via developing state-of-the-art communicative strategies. Efforts are warranted to enhance the attitude and motivate the students to conform to the protective safety measures. Background: Knowledge about the outcome of COVID-19 on pregnant women is so important. The published literature on the outcomes of pregnant women with COVID-19 is confusing. The aim of this study was to report our clinical experience about the effect of COVID-19 on pregnant women and to determine whether it was associated with increased mortality or an increase in the need for mechanical ventilation in this special category of patients. Methods: This was a cohort study from some isolation hospitals of the Ministry of Health and Population, in eleven governorates, Egypt. The clinical data from the first 64 pregnant women with COVID-19 whose care was managed at some of the Egyptian hospitals from 14 March to 14 June 2020 as well as 114 non-pregnant women with COVID-19 was reviewed. Results: The two groups did not show any significant difference regarding the main outcomes of the disease. Two cases in each group needed mechanical ventilation (p 0.617). Three cases (4.7%) died among the pregnant women and two (1.8%) died among the non-pregnant women (p 0.352). Conclusions: The main clinical outcomes of COVID-19 were not different between pregnant and non-pregnant women with COVID-19. Based on our findings, pregnancy did not exacerbate the course or mortality of COVID-19 pneumonia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Seed categories and crop varieties play an important role in wheat production in Egypt, which effect on genetic purity of wheat genotypes. So, this investigation aimed to study the effect of seed sources and varieties on yield and its attributes. Two field experiments were conducted at the Experimental Farm of Giza Agricultural Research Center (ARC), Giza Governorate, Egypt, during two successive winter growing seasons of 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 on the optimum sowing date 15th of November. Four wheat varieties (Misr1, Gemmeiza 11, Giza 168 and Sids 12) and their seed categories (Basic, Certified and Farmer saved seeds) were used in this study. Yield and its attributes and off- type percentage were estimated in the field experiment, further more phenol color reaction and ISSR technology were carried out at Seed Technology Department Laboratory. The results indicated significant differences between wheat varieties and its seed categories for the most traits. Gemmeiza 11 variety gave the highest value in most studied traits i.e., flag leaf chlorophyll content SPAD, flag leaf area, spike length, No of spikes/m², No of grains/spike, 1000-grain weight and grain yield/fad., while the lowest value of those traits were recorded by Misr 1 variety. For the effect of seed categories on yield and yield attributes, basic seeds gave the greatest value for all characters, except for plant height where farmer seed recorded the highest value. Meanwhile insignificant effects were obtained from seed categories on flag leaf chlorophyll content SPAD. The interaction effects between varieties and seed categories indicated that Gemmeiza 11 and Sids 12 varieties with Basic and Certified seed categories gave the highest value of most traits, while Misr 1 Varity with farmer seed category gave the lowest value for yield traits. Insignificant effects were noticed between wheat varieties for the off- type % while seed categories showed highly significant effects where, Farmer saved seed recorded the highest value and Basic seed gave the lowest value for this trait. Wheat varieties showed different color reaction to phenol while seed categories took the same pattern in phenol color reaction for each variety. Eight ISSR primers were used for fingerprinting the four wheat varieties and their seed categories produced 97 band, 31 of them were polymorphic (68.04%) polymorphism. The highest level of polymorphism was observed in primer HB-12 which showed 95.00% polymorphism, while the lowest polymorphism was 28.57% in primer HB-09. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley is one of the most important insect pests that infested many important economic crops all over the world. The insect was recorded for the first time on the okra plants at the inception of March during the season of 2019 on the farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, South Valley University, Qena. Results of both seasons showed that the highest weekly population count of P. solenopsis was found during the first week of June. The highest percentages of the total monthly mean count were found to be 37.87and 39.56%, in June during the 1st and 2nd seasons, respectively. In addition, it has three generations per season under field conditions. The impact of some biotic and abiotic factors influencing the enumeration of P. solenopsis was studied. One species of wasp, Aenasius arizonensis (Girault) has been recorded as a parasitoid on P. solenopsis. The parasitism rate reached 12.31% during the first season. The predation rate reached 4.55% and it was attributed to the Nephus includens (Kirsch). Under laboratory conditions, the biology studies of P. solenopsis (Tinsley) were carried out on the sprouted potato plants. The results of the various biological factors recorded that the female fertility rate ranged between (310 to 650 eggs/female), which increases the survival rate. The female longevity reached (27.23±2.35 days) and the total life cycle ranged from 39-55 days. Accordingly, the information obtained from this study leads to the selection of appropriate means of management during the active reproductive period of P. solenopsis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The standardized herbal preparation, STW 5, is effective clinically in functional gastrointestinal disorders and experimentally in ulcerative colitis (UC). The present study explores whether the beneficial effect of STW 5 involves influencing the intestinal microbiota. Methods: UC was induced in Wistar rats by feeding them 5% dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) in drinking water for 7 days. Rats were treated concurrently with STW 5 and sacrificed 24 h after last drug administration. Fecal samples were used to determine changes in the abundance of selected microbial phyla and genera using real-time PCR. Results: Induction of UC led to dysbiosis and changes in the gut microbiota. The changes included an increase in some genera of the Firmicutes, namely Enterococcus, and a decrease in others, namely Blautia, Clostridium, and Lactobacillus. DSS further induced a marked increase in the abundance of Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria as well as in the relative abundance of Actinobacteria and its genus Bifidobacterium. Methanobrevibacter levels (phylum Euryarchaeota) were also increased. Microbial dysbiosis was associated with changes in various parameters of colonic inflammation. STW 5 effectively guarded against those changes and significantly affected the indices of edema and inflammation in the UC model. Changes in colon length, colon mass index, inflammatory and apoptotic markers, and histological changes induced by DSS were also prevented. Conclusions: Dysbiosis plays a contributing role in the development of DSS-induced UC. Derangements in the microbial flora and associated inflammatory processes were largely prevented by STW 5, suggesting that this effect might contribute towards its beneficial usefulness in this condition. Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) aquaculture represents one of the most important cultivation species in Egypt. However, Tilapia farming encounters some problems that result in high fish mortalities and huge economic losses due to bacterial pathogens. Thus, the current study aimed to isolate, identify, and characterize the pathogenic bacteria affecting Nile tilapia farming in El-Abbassa, Abo-Hammad, Sharkia. Besides, antibiotic susceptibility to pathogens was determined as a primary step for controlling diseases. Hence, a collection of 252 fish samples was gathered from 200 fish farms. Upon microbiological and biochemical analysis, the presence of only 3 bacterial genera was detected, including Gram-negative bacteria of Aeromonas spp. (52.80 %), Pseudomonas spp. (27.9 %), and Vibrio spp. (19.3 %). Aeromonas sobria showed the highest prevalence in the infected Oreochromis niloticus. Antibiogram test revealed high levels of resistance expressed by all bacterial isolates to Ampicillin, Amoxicillin, and Erythromycin. On the other hand, Norfloxacin was effective against all isolated bacteria followed by Ciprofloxacin. The present work was aimed to study the effect of dietary L-arginine level, vitamin C, and their interaction between them on some reproductive performance and economical efficiency of Matrouh laying hens during the summer season. A 4X3 factorial treatment arrangement was carried out including four levels of dietary L-Arg (0.0, 0.4, 0.8, and 1.2 g/kg diet) and three VC concentrations (0, 150, and 300 mg/kg diet). A total number of 108 Matrouh hens and 36 cocks (Egyptian local strain) aged 64 weeks were randomly distributed into twelve treatment groups (three replicate each). The results obtained showed non-significant (p<0.05) effect in fertility percentages due to dietary L-Arg or VC supplementation through all the experimental periods. The interaction effects between dietary L-Arg and VC levels had a major influence (p<0.05) on fertility percentage. Dietary L-Arg levels had significant (P<0.05) effects on the hatchability percentages of total eggs set and fertile egg during all periods of estimation. The VC supplementation didn't have any significant effects on fertility and hatchability of fertile eggs percentage. The interaction effects between dietary L-Arg and VC levels had a major influence (p<0.05) on the hatchability percentages of total eggs set during all the interval periods. In conclusion, it could be concluded that Matrouh laying hens supplemented diet with L-Arg at a level of 0.4 g and VC at a level of 150 mg/kg diet, seemed to be adequate to achieve the favorite results and is recommended. Background: Infections caused by Enterobacteriaceae are mainly treated with the β-lactam antibiotics, nevertheless, the emergence of species with plasmid-borne β-lactamases has decreased the efficacy of these antibiotics. Therefore, continuing studies on the resistance pattern of different regions is important for assessment of proper antimicrobial therapy protocols. The study aimed to characterize extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and AmpC β –lactamase (AmpC) producing Enterobacteriaceae isolated from community-acquired UTIs in Egypt. Methods: Out of 705 urine samples, 440 Enterobacteriaceae isolates were investigated to detect ESBL and AmpC β -lactamases producers by phenotypic and molecular methods. Results: Out of 440 Enterobacteriaceae isolates, 311 were identified as ESBL producers by phenotypic testing. ESBL genes were detected in 308 isolates. BlaCTX-M-type was the most prevalent 254 (81.6%), out of them blaCTXM-15 was the commonest (152, 48.8%) followed by blaCTX-M-1 (140, 45%), blaCTX-M-8 (72, 23.1%) and lastly blaCTX-M-2 (4, 1.3%). blaTEM gene also was detected in a high rate (189, 60.7%). Two hundred and thirty-five (75.5%) of ESBL producers harbored blaCTX-M in combination with blaTEM and/or blaSHV genes. Multiple drug resistance in the ESBL-producers was significantly (P < 0.05) higher than in non–ESBL producers. Imipenem was the most effective drug against ESBL producers. Among 35 cefoxitin resistant isolates, 18 (51.4%) identified as carrying AmpC genes by multiplex PCR. Within AmpC β -lactamase genes, DHA gene was the predominant gene (15, 42.3%). CIT and MOX genes were also present, but in a low rate (5, 14.2% and 4, 11.4%) respectively. Co-existence of multiple AmpC genes was detected exclusively in K. pneumoniae isolates. E. coli isolates harbored DHA gene only. However, FOX gene was not detected in the study isolates. Seventeen of isolates carrying AmpC genes were also positive for ESBL genes. Conclusion: The study shows that the prevalence of ESBL producing Enterobacteriaceae spread in south Egypt is alarming, however AmpC β -lactamase production is not so high. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Chemotherapeutic medications, including 5 – fluorouracil (5FU), are the same old technique to most cancers and are associated with numerous peripheral toxicities. We investigated exopolysaccharide (EPSST) produced from the isolated streptomycete of the Mediterranean Sea for the capability to lower the severity of mucositis in vivo. The streptomycete was isolated from Mediterranean Sea sediment from the beaches of Port Said Governorates, Egypt and identified morphologically, physiologically, and biochemically and confirmed by molecularly 16S rDNA analysis. The EPSST was extracted from the supernatant of streptomycete by using 4 volumes chilled ethanol and then the functional groups, MW, and chemical evaluation have been detected via Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). In addition, antioxidant activity was measured through the usage of 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Thirty-two male rats (180–200 g) were randomly divided into a control group (normal saline), intraperitoneal injection of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU, 150 mg/kg), normal rats were treated with EPSST and 5-FU + EPSST group. These groups were continued up to the day of sacrifice (28 days post treatments). The isolated strain became recognized based totally on 16S rDNA sequence as Streptomyce sp. with accession number SAMN08349905. The chemical evaluations of EPSST were galacturonic, glucose, galactose, mannose, and arabinose with a relative ratio of 2.1: 1: 5.37: 1.62: 1.29 individually, with an average molecular weight (Mw) 9.687 × 103 g/mol. Also, the EPSST contained uronic acid (16%) and sulfate (12.149%) and no protein was detected. EPSST inhibited the DPPH radical activity. The findings of this study propose that EPSST inhibits 5-FU-induced mucositis through adjustment of oxidative stress, apoptosis, inflammatory factors, activation of antioxidant enzymes. The clinical administration of EPSST may recover the chemotherapy-induced intestinal dysfunction, consequently increasing the clinical efficiency of chemotherapy. In addition, the administration of EPSST reduced 5-FU-induced histopathological incongruities such as neutrophil infiltration, loss of cellular integrity, and villus and crypt distortion. This paper aims to identify black resin's composition, beginning, and uses. Black resin was a resinous material used to cover the funerary wooden artifacts in the New Kingdom. It was used for religious purposes and for covering coffins, shabti statues and boxes, stelae, human and animal statues, statue bases, and canopic chests. First, black resin was used in the era of Hatshepsut. Then, its use expanded in the era of Thutmose III. Therefore, the New Kingdom was the golden era of its use. In the New Kingdom, black resin was glossier than later times. The study utilized gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) attached with Thermal Separation Probe (TSP) unit was used to analyze the black resin sample. Black resin is made from natural resins, such as mastic, colophony, beeswax, bitumen, and unknown compounds. The layer of black resin has, in its complexes, a group of natural resins and other substances whose properties are anti-fungal and antibacterial. It also has insect repelling properties. Natural resins contain essential oil. Mastic resin was of high value in Ancient Egypt. The sample was taken from a coffin dating back to the Late period, in the 26th dynasty to be analyzed because identifying its composition helps choose the best material for chemical cleaning and consolidation. This paper addresses the issue of combining the usage of waste frying oil (WFO), as a feedstock, and a lipase produced in solid-state fermentation (SSF), as a biocatalyst, for semi-pilot scale production of biodiesel as fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). Two fungal mutants namely; Rhizopus stolonifer 1aNRC11 mutant F (1F) and Aspergillus tamarii NDA03a mutant G (3G) were used as a cocatalyst. The two mutants were cultivated separately by SSF in a tray bioreactor. The dried fermented solid of 1F and 3G mutants were used in a ratio of 3:1, respectively, for WFO transesterification. Optimization of several semi-pilot process stages including SSF and WFO transesterification reaction conditions resulted in 92.3% conversion of WFO to FAME. This FAME yield was obtained after 48 h using 10% cocatalyst (w/w of WFO), 10% water (w/w of WFO) and 3:1 methanol/ WFO molar ratio at 30 °C and 250 rpm. A preliminary economic evaluation of produced biodiesel price (190 $/Ton) is less than half the price of petroleum diesel in Egypt (401$/Ton) and is about 40.3% the price of biodiesel produced using a pure enzyme, which is a promising result. Background Neonatal sepsis (NS) is a common neonatal disorder associated with high mortality and morbidity. Objective The present work aims to assess diagnostic value of hepcidin and presepsin in NS detection and their roles in associated morbidity (especially neurological defects) and mortality. Patients and methods A case-control study was conducted at the neonatal intensive care unit of University Children's Hospital, Assiut, Egypt, in the period between June 2018 and June 2019. A total of 120 neonates with NS and 40 healthy neonates as control group were enrolled. Neonates were subjected to full history taking and thorough clinical evaluation. Blood picture, C-reactive protein (CRP), blood culture, and hepcidin and presepsin serum levels were measured. Only survivors were subjected to electroencephalography (EEG) and brain computed tomography (CT) evaluations. Results Neonates in NS group had significantly higher CRP, as well as hepcidin and presepsin serum levels versus control. Hepcidin and presepsin were significantly higher among nonsurvivors versus survivors and in neonates with neurological deficits versus neonates without neurological deficit. Sensitivity and specificity were 88.33 and 82.50%, respectively, for CRP; 93.33 and 90.00%, respectively, for hepcidin; and 91.67 and 90.00%, respectively, for presepsin. Of NS group, 66.7% had late-onset sepsis, 20.0% had neurological deficits, and 45.0% were survivors. Among survivors, the most frequent findings in EEG were focal epileptic discharge (57.4%) followed by continuous normal voltage (46.3%), and generalized periodic discharge with triphasic waves (42.6%), whereas in CT, the most frequent findings were mild hypoxia (37.0%) followed by periventricular hypoxia (33.3%). Conclusions Hepcidin and presepsin have an important role in prediction and diagnosis of NS with neurological sequelae and death. Egypt gives priority to Western Desert in land reclamation and sustainable development projects. The Bahariya oasis, a northernmost oasis of Egypt, is closer to the capital compared to other remote oases and represents the most interesting potential candidates for the sustainable development. Many researches provide insight into the hydrogeology and structural geology of the Bahariya oasis; however, very few attempts have been done to investigate its geothermal potentiality. The aim of present study is to reflect the geothermal resources of the Bahariya oasis encountered with the predominant structures utilizing aeromagnetic and borehole data. The main subsurface structures and the depth-to-basement map were retrieved from the 2D modelling of the aeromagnetic data. The results of the 2D models were verified by well stratigraphic data. Spectral analysis of the aeromagnetic data was applied to estimate the Curie point depth (CPD) and to produce geothermal gradient and heat flow maps for the Bahariya oasis. The results of the study indicated that the depth to the basement rocks in the area ranges from 0.6 to 4.0 km. The CPD is 15 km in the central parts and increases to 24 km eastward. The geothermal gradient varies from 20 to 35 °C/km with an average 30 °C/km; however, the heat flow changes from 60 to 100 m W/m2 with an average of 90 m W/m2. These results, in addition to basement structures, imply a high temperature gradient and heat flow correlating with shallow Curie depths.
