Abstract

The article offers information on the Second Hippo Tumor Suppressor Pathway Workshop that was held on November 2-5, 2010 at Chigi Palace in Ariccia, Rome, Italy. The workshop discusses the role of drosophila, which has Hippo (Hpo) kinase cascade, in the regulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis. The workshop also explains the association of Hpo pathway with ovarian and liver cancer.

Abstract

The article reveals the highlights of a lecture by eye surgeon Kenneth R. Kenyon at the Ocular Surgery News (OSN) Symposium held in Rome, Italy in May 2009. He said persistent corneal epithelial defects could be treated with topical application of amnion membrane extract (AMX). AMX is a lyophilized extract of fresh human amniotic membrane which has been shown to have growth factor activity in vitro and in vivo. He noted that the positive effects of AMX in stimulating cell proliferation have been proven.
