This work aims to analyze, from the input-output matrix, sectoral interconnection level indicators of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS) economy and demand impacts on employment and income. This general equilibrium model allows to generate employment and income policies, necessary for the development of the State based on a proposal directed to the Society, the Environment and Sustainable Regional Development. Thus, the sectors that impact the most were identified as follows: Trade and Services, Pulp and Paper Products, Mining and Quarrying, Clothing Items and Accessories, Leather Goods. Trying to understand how the interdependence relationship among the sectors of a given economy and its impacts on the environment is fundamental to the identification of sectors that are more polluting and those that are considered key in the sense of being less polluting. In order to describe this relationship, this work has as general objective to measure the level of CO2 emission from the level of production in function of the consumption of electric energy in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. In order to meet the general objective, from the state energy balance and the input–output matrix of 2010, a hybrid input–output matrix was derived. Thus, it was possible to identify that the service sector, although is the engine of the state GDP, represents only 16% of the emissions, agriculture and cattle raising 6% and industry 78%. The main sectors in CO2 emission are rubber and plastic articles and the pulp and paper production sector. Considering the estimates of growth of the state, the concern with the environment is emphasized as the driving sectors of the expansion being precisely those that emit more CO2. Introduction: With the reopening of schools during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, it was imperative to understand the role of students and education professionals in the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In this paper, we determined the seroprevalence of the SARS-CoV-2 anti-nucleocapsid antibodies in the school community in Campo Grande, the capital and most populous city of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul (Brazil) and evaluated its association with sex, school level, and school type. Materials and methods: The survey was carried out in 20 public and private schools in the urban region of Campo Grande using the TR DPP® COVID-19 immunoglobulin M/immunoglobulin G (IgM/IgG) kit from the Immunobiological Technology Institute (Bio-Manguinhos, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Testing was carried out in three periods: from October to December 2021; from March to July 2022; and from August to November 2022. The participants were students aged 6-17 years enrolled in primary or secondary schools and professionals of different ages and roles. Results: During the first testing period, 162 participants were seropositive for the IgM and/or IgG anti-nucleocapsid SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, with an estimated seroprevalence of 19.6% using Bayesian multilevel regression. In the second period, 251 participants were seropositive (estimated seroprevalence, 34.6%), while in the third period, 393 participants were seroconverted (estimated seroprevalence, 56.7%). In 2022, there was an increase in the seroconversion rate compared to that in 2021. The most frequently described acute manifestations in the three periods were fever, headache, sore throat, and runny nose. In terms of the demographic profile, there was no predominance of seropositivity between the sexes, although women represented approximately 70% of the study population. There were also no differences between students and school staff. Discussion: The results made it possible to evaluate the extent of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in the school community through immunity developed against the virus, in addition to providing information about COVID-19 symptoms in children, adolescents, and adults. This paper proposes an extension of the Bayesian instrumental variables regression which allows spatial and temporal correlation among observations. For that, we introduce a double separable covariance matrix, adopting a Conditional Autoregressive structure for the spatial component, and a first-order autoregressive process for the temporal component. We also introduce a Bayesian multiple imputation to handle missing data considering uncertainty. The inference procedure is described joint with a step by step Monte Carlo Markov Chain algorithm for parameters estimation. We illustrate our methodology through a simulation study and a real application that investigates how broadband affects the Gross Domestic Product of municipalities in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul from 2010 to 2017. The Bioceanic Corridor is an international land route under implementation, which aims to connect the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, in Brazil, to the ports of Northern Chile. This new route could shorten the transport time between South America and Asia by approximately two weeks. This paper's purpose is to contextualize, map, identify, and analyze the effects of this new logistics network designed by the Bioceanic Route over the Local Productive Arrangements (LPA) in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul. To achieve these goals, a spatial econometric methodology was adopted to determine the State's productive concentration. The results indicate that this route will bring many development opportunities. However, for that to happen, favorable policies are essential and must be developed to facilitate an integration that allows for competitiveness in the State's economic activities. The giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) is classified as a vulnerable species but is commonly received in rescue centers and zoos. Establishing hematological and biochemical reference intervals of free-ranging animals is an important tool to assess the health of both captive and wild populations. Reference values for 53 free-ranging giant anteaters in the Cerrado savanna of Mato Grosso do Sul state were established and differences across sexes and age groups were tested. Significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) between age groups (juvenile and adult) were found for hematocrit, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), lymphocytes, monocytes, platelets, total protein, globulin, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), and phosphorus. Between sexes, the only value that showed a significant difference was platelets. The data from the present study were also compared with previous studies and a worldwide zoological databank (ZIMS). White blood cell values were higher in all the studies with free-ranging giant anteaters compared to captive individuals. The relative eosinophils reference interval from our study was the highest ever reported for the species. This paper is the first published study with biochemical values for free-ranging giant anteaters and provides important reference intervals for future giant anteater in situ and ex situ conservation initiatives and highlights the importance of more veterinary research with comparative aspects between wild and captive animals. The energy balance constitutes a powerful management instrument for government agencies, as it offers an overview of the energy situation of the country (or region) and serves as a guide for energy policies and monitoring of these policies. Although Brazil has published the national energy balance for more than half a century, the national publication does not adequately address energy statistics at the level of the states. This occurs either due to the lack of specific data or the absence of total disaggregation. Accordingly, the elaboration and implementation of public policies for the energy sector in the Brazilian states lack consistent energy statistics. Therefore, this paper aims to present a model for the Brazilian states to elaborate the energy balance. The proposed model consists of applying internationally referenced methodologies to develop a user-friendly software, which includes automatic energy unit conversions, different chart styles, high-level data organization, and Sankey diagrams. As a result, the software can be adopted by local governments as a tool to maintain the state energy balance publication periodically, and hence obtain the detailed information necessary to manage and formulate energy policies. The advantage of the software is that it can be operated by non-experts and the energy flow as well as the entire report can be generated automatically. This paper aims to find probabilities of extreme values of the air temperature for the Cerrado, Pantanal and Atlantic Forest biomes in Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil. In this case a maximum likelihood estimation was employed for the probability distributions fitting the extreme monthly air temperatures for 2007–2018. Using the Extreme Value Theory approach this work estimates three probability distributions: the Generalized Distribution of Extreme Values (GEV), the Gumbel (GUM) and the Log-Normal (LN). The Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, the corrected Akaike criterion AICc, the Bayesian information criterion BIC, the root of the mean square error RMSE and the determination coefficient R2 were applied to measure the goodness-of-fit. The estimated distributions were used to calculate the probabilities of occurrence of maximum monthly air temperatures over 28–32 °C. Temperature predictions were done for the 2-, 5-, 10-, 30-, 50- and 100-year return periods. The GEV and GUM distributions are recommended to be used in the warmer months. In the coldest months, the LN distribution gave a better fit to a series of extreme air temperatures. Deforestation, combustion and extensive fires, and the related aerosol emissions contribute, alongside climate change, to the generation of extreme air temperatures in the studied biomes. Since 2007, there has been a significant increase in eucalyptus planting in the eastern region of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), Brazil. Eucalyptus planting takes the place of extensive livestock farming by the leasing or purchasing of land from farmers in the region. The "green desert" is growing to the point of having a direct impact on the social and spatial organization of the two main rural communities in the region, Arapuá and Garcias, which were established with the families of rural workers on cattle farms and on the settlers of the districts. With the territorialization of the eucalyptus-pulp-paper complex in the region, there has been a major rural exodus, impacting the social and cultural characteristics that made the communities' identity, generating a notable environmental imbalance. This paper proposes to understand these changes, based on the reading made by the residents themselves regarding the arrival of eucalyptus and on how these transformations in land use and capitalist appropriation of the territory changed the territorial identity of these rural communities. The study is based on the theoretical and methodological approach of social geography, which considers the subject at the center of territorial productions. The article talks about the colonial situations of Indigenous people in Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil. Purpose: This study aims to analyze how multirational management relates to cooperatives' corporate governance. Design/methodology/approach: A typology of agricultural cooperatives' potential for multirational management in relation to corporate governance is proposed. Coordinates based on data from assembly participation and separation of ownership and control are used to map cooperatives among these typologies. Four case studies representing each typology were conducted, allowing analysis of propositions. Findings: By mapping the cooperatives from Mato Grosso do Sul, a reduced potential for multirational management is noted. By analyzing the four case studies, coded as Coop 1, 3, 13 and 16, this study found convergence with P1, P2 and P3. "Coop 1" shows signs of adopting exploitation practice. In "Coop 3," evidence points to avoidance practice and, analyses of "Coop 13" indicates adoption of tolerance practice. In Coop 16, however, P4 could not be confirmed. Instead of polarizing practices, there is evidence of avoidance practice. Therefore, a positive relation between corporate governance and multirational management can partially be observed. Originality/value: There are no records of a paper that has explored the relation of governance and multirational management. Therefore, this research broadens the understanding of how corporate governance can function in the context of cooperative organizations. As well, insight is given on how different mechanisms of corporate governance can influence organizations to adopt explicit or implicit and monorational or multirational methods of dealing with multiple rationalities. Guató is an isolate, nearly extinct indigenous language. Only two elders, VS and EF, remember it. They both live in the Pantanal (State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil). Despite the decline in the number of speakers due to farmers' invading land that once belonged to Indigenous people, new research has been conducted, resulting in a description of some aspects of its grammar. This paper shows the distribution of plural affixes, as used by EF. In Guató, all nouns combine directly with numerals, whether these nouns are mass or count. CONAPE/2022 as a space for mobilization and resistance is the focus of this paper, which particularly deals with the realization of the state in Mato Grosso do Sul during 2021. Therefore, it is based on documentary research using FEEMS records and documents produced by FNPE. The first section turns to the political scenario in order to explain the reasons that culminated in the creation of the FNPE and the proposition of the CONAPE (2018 and 2022). The second section discusses the organization and carrying out the intermunicipal stages, the free conferences and the state stage. At the end of the article, some considerations are made, supported by documentary research and the authors' involvement in the organization process, about their participation in the focused State. The indiscriminate use of antimicrobials has led to the emergence of resistant bacteria, especially pathogenic strains of Escherichia coli , which are associated with diseases in animals and humans. The aim of the present study was to characterize E. coli isolates in calves with regards to the presence of virulence genes and investigate the resistance of the isolates to different antimicrobials. Between 2021 and 2023, 456 fecal samples were collected from calves in the Pantanal and Cerrado biomes of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. All samples were subjected to microbiological analysis and disc diffusion antibiogram testing. The polymerase chain reaction method was used to detect virulence genes. Bacterial growth was found in 451 of the 456 samples and biochemically identified as Escherichia coli. All 451 isolates (100 %) exhibited some phenotypic resistance to antimicrobials and 67.62 % exhibited multidrug resistance. The frequency of multidrug-resistant isolates in the Cerrado biome was significantly higher than that in the Pantanal biome (p = 0.0001). In the Cerrado , the most common pathotype was Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) (28 %), followed by toxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) (11 %), enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) (8 %) and enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) (2 %). In most cases, the concomitant occurrence of pathotypes was more common, the most frequent of which were ETEC + STEC (33 %), ETEC + EHEC (15 %) and ETEC + EPEC (3 %). The STEC pathotype (30 %) was also found more frequently in the Pantanal , followed by EHEC (12 %), ETEC (9 %) and EPEC (6 %). The STEC pathotype had a significantly higher frequency of multidrug resistance (p = 0.0486) compared to the other pathotypes identified. The frequency of resistance was lower in strains from the Pantanal biome compared to those from the Cerrado biome. Making plant breeding programs less expensive, fast, practical, and accurate, especially for soybeans, promotes the selection of new soybean genotypes and contributes to the emergence of new varieties that are more efficient in absorbing and metabolizing nutrients. Using spectral information from soybean genotypes combined with nutritional information on secondary macronutrients can help genetic improvement programs select populations that are efficient in absorbing and metabolizing these nutrients. In addition, using machine learning algorithms to process this information makes the acquisition of superior genotypes more accurate. Therefore, the objective of the work was to verify the classification performance of soybean genotypes regarding secondary macronutrients by ML algorithms and different inputs. The experiment was conducted in the experimental area of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, municipality of Chapadão do Sul, Brazil. Soybean was sown in the 2019/20 crop season, with the planting of 103 F2 soybean populations. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, with two replications. At 60 days after crop emergence (DAE), spectral images were collected with a Sensifly eBee RTK fixed-wing remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), with autonomous takeoff control, flight plan, and landing. At the reproductive stage (R1), three leaves were collected per plant to determine the macronutrients calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and sulfur (S) levels. The data obtained from the spectral information and the nutritional values of the genotypes in relation to Ca, Mg, and S were subjected to a Pearson correlation analysis; a PC analysis was carried out with a k-means algorithm to divide the genotypes into clusters. The clusters were taken as output variables, while the spectral data were used as input variables for the classification models in the machine learning analyses. The configurations tested in the models were spectral bands (SBs), vegetation indices (VIs), and a combination of both. The combination of machine learning algorithms with spectral data can provide important biological information about soybean plants. The classification of soybean genotypes according to calcium, magnesium, and sulfur content can maximize time, effort, and labor in field evaluations in genetic improvement programs. Therefore, the use of spectral bands as input data in random forest algorithms makes the process of classifying soybean genotypes in terms of secondary macronutrients efficient and important for researchers in the field. The purpose of this paper consisted to determine the level of rural development for municipalities from the State of Mato Grosso do Sul and its categorization, selecting relevant variables to compose the set of regional determining characteristics. To achieve this goal, the constitution of the Regional Rural Development Index (RRDI) was proposed, obtained through the latent factors, generated by the factor analysis, using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) as an extraction method. This index was obtained based on 29 indicators derived from secondary data of the 2006 Agriculture Census and the 2010 Population Census. Among the main results is the extraction of seven latent factors, explaining 85,47% of the total accumulated variance, which represented characteristics related to rural health-domestic and production infrastructure, agricultural productivity, environmental preservation and degradation, educational and demographic aspects, agricultural jobs, and the relevance of land titling. The composition of these variables allowed IDRR to contribute empirically in determining the levels of localities rural development and to reveal a relatively homogeneous regional rural development pattern for the municipalities analyzed. Through an exploratory research, with bibliographical and documental survey, using the inductive method, this paper aims to highlight the importance of the reception and integration network of international immigrants in the city of Dourados, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, based on the thought of SILVA and SANTOS (2020) on the vulnerability of immigrants and SILVA and PIRES (2020) on the construction of a support network in the universities of the region. For this, the text is structured in three specific objectives: firstly, to contextualize the immigration flow to the city of Dourados; secondly, to understand the support network of these immigrants, and finally, to analyze the data on the reception and integration of young immigrants in the region. The conclusions point out that the protagonism of the immigrants themselves, especially young people, in the political organization of their demands, has been a preponderant factor for their claims to be taken into consideration by the public authorities. Among the four palynozones established for the Pennsylvanian–Permian sedimentary succession of the Paraná Basin, two are related to the glacial (AcZ: Ahrensisporites cristatus and CmZ: Crucisaccites monoletus zones) and one is related to the following terminal glacial phase (VcZ: Vittatina costabilis Zone) in this portion of Gondwana. The AcZ and the CmZ are typically recognized within the basal and middle portions of the Itararé Group and the Aquidauana Formation, while the VcZ corresponds to the upper portions of both units. In this paper we present a palynostratigraphic analysis of all occurrences of these palynozones from 66 boreholes and 29 outcrops. Two paleogeographic maps are depicted showing the distribution of all sections where the palyonozones related to glacial and terminal glacial sections occur within the Itararé Group and the Aquidauana Formation. Glacial palynozones (AcZ and CmZ) are recognized from outcrops and boreholes from Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso and Goiás states, encompassing the thickest portion of the Itararé Group and the Aquidauana Formation. The terminal glacial palynozone (VcZ) was recognized from several boreholes and outcrops, well distributed throughout the basin, from the Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul states. Reworked palynomorphs from Devonian and Mississippian strata found together with indigenous species in assemblages assigned to the glacial palynozones (AcZ and CmZ) are used herein as a tool for interpretation of the source area and as indicators of transport direction. As observed elsewhere in Gondwana, palynozones related to the glacial and terminal glacial phases present dominance of spores and monosaccate pollen grains, whereas those linked to the latter phase record the income and the quantitative increase of certain species indicative of progressive climate amelioration. Wild species are susceptible to several typical domestic animal pathogens, and the increasingly close contact between these groups is a predictive factor for disease exposure. Some viruses are important and old-known, and others are emerging or reemerging for domestic carnivorans and have been identified as threats to the conservation of wild mammals. The purpose of the study was to investigate the occurrence of bocaparvoviruses (BoVs, Parvoviridae family, Parvovirinae subfamily, Bocaparvovirus genus), parvoviruses (Parvoviridae family, Parvovirinae subfamily, Protoparvovirus genus, Protoparvovirus carnivoran1), hepadnaviruses (Hepadnaviridae family), coronaviruses (Coronaviridae family, Orthocoronavirinae subfamily), paramyxoviruses (Paramyxoviridae family) and canine distemper virus (Orthoparamyxovirinae subfamily, Morbillivirus genus, Morbillivirus canis), poxviruses (Poxviridae family), feline herpesvirus (Orthoherpesviridae family, Alphaherpesvirinae subfamily, Varicellovirus genus, Varicellovirus felidalpha1), feline calicivirus (Caliciviridae family, Vesivirus genus, FCV), feline immunodeficiency virus (Retroviridae family, Orthoretrovirinae subfamily, Lentivirus genus, FIV), feline leukemia virus (Retroviridae family, Orthoretrovirinae subfamily, Gammaretrovirus genus, FeLV), and gammaherpesviruses (Orthoherpesviridae family, Gammaherpesvirinae subfamily) in wild carnivorans. A total of 30 biological samples from the families Canidae, Felidae, Mephitidae, Mustelidae, and Procyonidae were evaluated. All animals were victims of vehicular collisions in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Canine parvovirus (CPV-2) DNA was detected in the spleen of a bush dog (Speothos venaticus), a jaguarundi (Puma yagouaroundi), and a jaguar (Panthera onca), FeLV proviral DNA was found in the spleen of an ocelot (Leopardus pardalis); while CDV RNA was detected in the liver of a jaguarundi. Phylogenetic analysis carried out with the partial sequence of the CPV-2 VP2 gene and the U3 (LTR) gag region of FeLV showed 100% identity with strains obtained from domestic dogs and cats, respectively. The approximation between wild and domestic animals favors the transmission of pathogens, especially between phylogenetically close species, such as members of the Canidae and Felidae families. Identification of the DNA and RNA of potentially fatal viruses such as CPV-2, FeLV, and CDV in four wilds endangered to extinction and understudied species contributes to our understanding of the pathogens circulating in this free-ranging and vulnerable population. Miranda Municipality of Mato Grosso do Sul, borders the Pantanal wetland, a famous fishing destination visited by tourists from all over the world, and is a location where visceral leishmaniasis has been reported. To assess the risk of Leishmania infantum transmission, we studied the sandfly community, focusing on known vector and parasite presence. We conducted light trap collections twice per month at nine sites within the city (including two forested areas) for one year. We collected a total of 12,727 sand flies, 10,891 males and 1,836 females belonging to 11 species: Brumptomyia avellari, Evandromyia aldafalcaoae, Ev. evandroi, Ev. lenti, Ev. sallesi, Ev. walkeri, Lu. longipalpis, Nyssomyia whitmani, Psathyromyia bigeniculata, Pa. hermanlenti and Pa. punctigeniculata. Lutzomyia longipalpis, the proven vector of Leishmania infantum, was captured each month, and was the most abundant species observed, accounting for more than 99% of sand flies captured in most sites, especially where chicken coops were present. Evidence of Leishmania infantum infection was detected in 0.40% of Lu. longipalpis tested. We developed a generalized mixed multilevel model for Lu. longipalpis, that includes within-year seasonality, location of capture (indoors vs. outdoors), vector abundance, and sex ratio. The VL vector was abundant both inside and outside houses. Large numbers of Lu. longipalpis were observed in outdoor sites where domestic animals were present but were absent from forest sites. Our findings suggest high vector populations and Le. infantum presence in a city where tourists could be exposed to visceral leishmaniasis, with significant implications for more surveillance and control activities. Author summary: Several localities in Mato Grosso do Sul have already recorded human visceral leishmaniasis cases, including the city of Miranda, which is a famous fishing and tourism destination. Due to the high number of visitors, we decided to evaluate the risk of Leishmania infantum transmission in the area. Thus, we conducted vector collections over one year, detecting both the presence of the main vector (Lutzomyia longipalpis) and the Le. infantum parasite. We used nonlinear multilevel mixed models, under the Bayesian framework, to investigate the seasonal changes on transmission risk (i.e.; overall vector abundance and the proportion of females), taking into account the residence space. We found that the overall vector abundance outdoors was higher than in the indoors. Outdoors abundance was more consistent with two-peaks during the year, whereas indoors abundance was more seasonal with a single peak. Although, indoor abundance was lower than observed outdoors, the proportion of females captured was up to twice that observed outdoors. These findings highlighted the spatiotemporal component of leishmaniasis transmission risk, which can guide entomological surveillance and control measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on news of the rape of a 9-year-old child at Bororó village, located in the city of Dourados, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, this paper discusses how the cultural diversity of indigenous peoples is textualized in MS Record, the local TV news program. Supported by the French Line of Discourse Analysis and the study of social practices, this research analyzes how the television media, when questioning some aspects of the indigenous cultural identity through its supposed uniqueness and legitimacy, strikes out at the human rights and diversity, mostly contesting "privileges" given to indigenous people. Among the power relations inherent to the journalistic discourse and the historicity of the analyzed event, there is a effacement of the crime itself in relation to the (lack of) indianity. Ultimately, there is a dissemination of a prejudiced and discriminatory discourse towards them, particularly about how the courts and Brazilian indigenous protection organizations understand their own native people. The importance of statistical analysis in the field of energy for environmental engineering is shown in this research paper, in which the adequacy of the data sets of clarity index with the model of "best" probability (based on the criteria used) was studied. In Campo Grande which is the capital of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, located in the Center-West region of the country, there is a predominance of the atmospheric conditions of low cloudiness, with a high frequency of days with a clear sky and in consequence a low-frequency of days with cloudy sky. The aerosols resulting from the burning of sugarcane influence the sky conditions in Campo Grande thus reducing the frequency of the clear sky. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
